RAY -- Fred Wiley Pelfrey, 82, of Ray, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe.
Born May 6, 1919, in Brethett County, Ky., he was the son of the late Morgan and Dora Spencer Pelfrey. He is survived by his wife, Martie Banks Pelfrey; a daughter, Wanda Zimmerman; and two sons, Donald and Fred Pelfrey.
Funeral services are Monday at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in the Pelfrey family cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
Jean Biggs
Died: Thursday, July 19, 2001
ATHENS -- Amy Jean Biggs, 72, of Athens, died Thursday evening, July 19, 2001, at James Cancer Hospital in Columbus.
Born on Sept. 1, 1928, in Athens, she was daughter of the late Theodore David and Elizabeth Morgan Sawyer.
She was raised in Crestline until she graduated from high school. She attended and graduated from Ohio University, where she was member of Phi Beta Pi sorority. She then married the late Judge John L. Beckley and resided in McArthur for over 30 years. She belonged to many civic organizations, which included being a Girl Scout leader, Rainbow Mom and elementary tutor. She was a member of the Alumni of Phi Beta Pi, St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was a loving and caring person to whom we are thankful for uniting two families.
She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. William Biggs; four daughters, Amy (Ernie) Williams of Westerville, Ellen (Ed) Yen of New Albany, Melissa (Dr. Bill) Pippin of Worthington and Molly (David) Cline of McKinney, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jamie, Shane, Kyle, Aaron, Lauren, Peter, Rachel, Harrison and Morgan; three stepchildren, Becky (Ted) Uritus of Columbus, William Bailey (Barb) Biggs of Sylvania and Peggy (Mike) Smith of Sylvania; 11 step-grandchildren, Amy, Matt, Meg, Ted, Scott, Bill, Ami, Zac, Pete, Adam and Zack; four step-great-grandchildren, Julia, Tyler, Mason and Billy; and two brothers, Dr. Jack (Lillian) Sawyer of Lompoc, Calif., and Theodore (Bobbi) Sawyer of Upper Arlington.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth (Libby) Ettaki.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Athens, with Mgsr. Patrick Gaughan, Mgsr. Donald Horak and Fr. Marty Holler officiating. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur.
Friends may call at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Vigil for the deceased will be today at 6:30 p.m.

John Cline Sr.
Died: Thursday, July 19, 2001
ATHENS -- John Gillogly Cline Sr. passed away on July 19, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.
Born on Nov. 8, 1911, in Albany, Ohio, John was the son of Alvin Dailey Cline and Blanche Gillogly Cline. He graduated from Athens High School in 1931 and attended Ohio University. John worked for Lincoln Electric Co. before joining the U.S. Army. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre in World War II and was part of the occupation force in Japan. He received an honorable discharge from the military and returned to Athens where he founded Cline's Welding Supply in 1948, which he owned and operated until his retirement.
John was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Athens and served as a deacon. He belonged to the Athens Masonic Temple and was a noble of the Mystic Shrine in Aladdin Temple of Columbus. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Maryland and National Societies.
John was elected by the citizens of Athens County to two terms as Athens County Commissioner, an office in which he served with distinction. He was also an elected member of the Republican Central Committee and was a candidate for Athens County sheriff.
He is survived by his sons, John G. Cline Jr. of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and William S. Cline of North Canton, Ohio; daughter Lisabeth R. Weirich of Madison, Wis.; and wife Caroline (Parkis) of Gahanna, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Frances Cline; his beloved brother, William W. Cline; and his wife of 42 years, Virginia (Hill).
John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed the companionship of his many friends. He took many hunting and fishing trips to the Western United States and Canada.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 919 N. Michigan Avenue, suite 1000, Chicago, Ill. 60611. A private family graveside service is planned. Jagers and Sons Funeral Home is serving the family.
Marilyn Judson
Died: Thursday, July 19, 2001
TRIMBLE -- Marilyn R. Judson, 42, of Trimble, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
She was born Aug. 3, 1958, in Xenia, daughter of the late Charles F. and Lucy Mae Perry Talbert. She was married to John Paul Judson Sr. of Trimble. She attended Word of Life Christian Fellowship Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, John Paul Judson Jr. of The Plains; six daughters, Melinda (Brian) Eveland of Logan, and Rhonda K. Young, Sheila (John) Knott, Angel (Matthew) Spears, Michelle (Randy) Ward and Mary J. McGomery, all of Trimble; 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas (Deborah) Talbert, John R. Talbert and Kenney Talbert, all of Hemlock, and Thurman W. Talbert of Corning; and a sister, Carolyn (Dan) Musick of Gore.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Leona K. Talbert.
Services were held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan, with Pastor Robert Bookman officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Morgan County.
Calling hours were held Saturday at the funeral home.
Shawn Marcinko

POMEROY -- Shawn Charles Marcinko, 26, of Wipple Road, Pomeroy, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington. W.Va.
Born Aug. 30, 1974, in Gallipolis, he was the son of Bill and Charmaine Marcinko Thoma of Racine. He is survived by his wife, Audra Rose Marcinko; a son, Nathaniel Ray Watson; and a stepson, Bryan Scott Hunt.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Chester Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Bette McKinley
Died: Thursday, July 19, 2001
NEW STRAITSVILLE -- Bette J. McKinley, 74, of New Straitsville, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan.
Born Dec. 11, 1926, in Haydenville, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. Sparks and Bertine Warren.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry and Jeff McKinley; and a daughter, Rhonda Norris.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max McKinley.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 6 p.m., at New Fairview Cemetery, Rockbridge. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements were handled by Cardaras Funeral Home in Logan.
Barbara McQuaid
Died: Thursday, July 19, 2001
CORNING -- Barbara L. Stewart McQuaid, 60, of Corning, died Thursday, July 19, 2001, at her home.
Born Dec. 1, 1940, in Chauncey, she was employed by Corning Head Start as a teacher, and was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by a son, Kevin (Sherri) Wintermute, and grandchildren Kyle and Brittney Wintermute, all of Corning; a special friend, Bob Garey, of the home; and cousins Jimmy Pincelli, and Kenny and Judy Wicks.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtle Stewart; and grandparents, James and Maude Pincelli.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, 11 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville, with the Rev. Ernest Eing officiating.

Beatrice Burns

LOGAN -- Beatrice Burns, 83, of Logan, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, in Logan.
Born Jan. 18, 1919, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Dora Hoy Oldfield. She is survived by sons Ricky and Tom Burns, and daughters Charlotte Brewster and Janet Looman.
Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Steven B. Cooley

GLOUSTER -- Steven B. Cooley, 47, of Stockport, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003, at Mark Rest Center.
Born Jan. 29, 1956, in Glouster, he was the son of Maverie Worley Cooley of Stockport and the late Donald Cooley.

Mabel A. Hughes
Died: Monday, February 24, 2003
Age: 81
ATHENS -- Mabel A. Hughes, 81, of Athens, died Monday morning, Feb. 24, 2003, at Kimes Convalescent Center.
Born March 15, 1921, in Vienna, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Blanche Briley Hughes.
She was a member of Athens First Christian Church for more than 40 years and had been Sunday School treasurer.
She is survived by a sister, Janey Hughes of Athens; a brother-in-law, Dale Sprague of Columbus; a niece, Joyce (David) Rawson of Grove City; a nephew, Bruce Sprague of Seattle, Wash.; two great-nephews, Kenneth and Benjamin Rawson of Grove City; a surrogate daughter, Vicki McKinley of Athens; and six surrogate grandchildren, Aurelio, Brandy, Tristen, Alexis, Schadwich and Whitney.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Sprague and Virginia Hughes; two brothers, George and Charles Hughes; and two infant brothers.
Services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. Steven Brown officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
