McARTHUR -- Marvin Carl Queen, 69, of McArthur, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 31, 1932, in Radcliff, son of the late George Edward and Norma Faye Hill Queen.
He is survived by his wife, Monna Jean Price Queen; daughters Brenda George, Belinda Mitchell and Christie Brumley; and sons Raymond and Ranny Alvin Queen.
Services will be Friday, 2 p.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home, Albany. Burial will be in Bowen Cemetery, Vales Mill, with military graveside services conducted by McArthur VFW Post 5299.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Walter Sharon Jr.
Died: Tuesday, September 18, 2001
ROCKBRIDGE -- Walter L. Sharon Jr., 55, of Rockbridge, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at his residence.
Born May 30, 1946, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Walter L. Sharon Sr. and Hester Adkins Tucker.
He is survived by daughters Tammy Montgomery and Brandi Sharon; an adopted daughter, Lori Sharon; and Patricia Waddell, who was raised in the home.
Services will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in New Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mildred Sowers
Died: Tuesday, September 18, 2001
LOGAN -- Mildred Sowers, 78, of Logan, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at Logan Health Care Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1922, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Herman Harold Sr. and Essie Marie Murray Sowers.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Bell Cemetery, Allensville.

Lucile Cone
Died: Monday, September 17, 2001
ATHENS -- Lucile M. Cone, 90, of Athens, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Kimes Convalescent Center.
Born Dec. 26, 1910, in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Arra and Lucy Smith Gillette. She was a former dining hall employee of Ohio University, a former employee of the deputy registrar's office and had been employed in various restaurants and housecleaning jobs in the Athens area.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irma Gene and George Zorich of Grove City, and Judy and Clyde Beasley of Athens; a son and daughter-in-law, Max and Judy Cone of Sardinia; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; a brother, Cecil (Louise) Gillette; and a sister, Pleasant Wilson.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Charles Cone, on Jan. 24, 2000; a son, Kenneth Cone; three brothers, Herman, Harold and Delmar Gillette; and a sister, Doris Coffman.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Dave Cogar officiating. Burial will be in West Union Street Cemetery.

Gerald Jones

COOLVILLE -- Gerald Dean Jones, 38, owner of Oldtown Antiques in Salinas, Calif., and Gerald's Antiques in Prunedale, Calif., died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
Born Nov. 12, 1962, in Farmington, N.M., he lived in Monterey County, Calif., for 36 years. Mr. Jones had a zest for life. He was an avid rodeo enthusiast and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his parents, Joseph Jones of Spokane, Wash., and Curtsy Porter of Marina, Calif.; surrogate mother Vinetta Shaw of Arroyo Seco, N.M.; four brothers, Michael Burns of Albany, Bobby Jones of Oregon, Kenneth Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Aaron Jones of Stewart; three sisters, Pamela Jones of Coolville, Sandra LaFrantz of Red Bluff, Calif., and Kelli Domsher; two stepbrothers, Johnny Porter of San Francisco, Calif., and James Porter of Spring Valley, Calif.; four stepsisters, Kim Cary of San Jose, Calif., Sarah Tucker of San Leandro, Calif., Yvonne Porter of Salinas, and Jannie Campbell of Fremont, Calif.; nieces Tamara and Akeyna Newton; and nephews Scotty and Nicky Domsher.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Fairview Cemetery in Coolville, with the Rev. Gary Alton officiating.
Arrangements are by White-Moquin Funeral Home in Coolville.

Walter McHarg
Died: Monday, September 17, 2001
ATHENS -- Walter L. McHarg, 88, of Athens, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 17, 1913, in Athens County, he was the son of the late James M. and Jennie Carpenter McHarg. He was a graduate of The Plains High School and attended Ohio University. He was a pressman at McBee's, with 20 years of service, and retired from the OU physical plant. He was a member of Athens First Church of God and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the European Theater.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ruth; a daughter, Marilyn (Kim) Davidson of Kodiak, Alaska; two grandsons, Chaven and Mitchell Davidson, both of Kodiak; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, J. Thomas McHarg; and two brothers, Howard and Gerald McHarg.
Services will be Saturday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Joy Clark officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens, where military services will be conducted by the American Legion.

Alva Mount Sr.
Died: Monday, September 17, 2001
Age: 83
MILLFIELD -- Alva L. Mount Sr., 83, of Millfield, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy.
Born July 3, 1918, in Millfield, he was the son of the late Sam and Minnie Lehman Mount. He attended several Holiness Churches in the Glouster area.
He is survived by sons Dan (Helen) Mount and Randy (Brenda) Mount of Millfield, and Alva Mount Jr. of McArthur; daughters Mrs. James (Donna) Hogue, Mrs. Carl (Minnie) Stamm and Mary Mount and her friend, Rich Williams, all of Glouster; a special niece, Mrs. Jerry (Reta) Mash of Nelsonville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nora M. Hoover Mount, in 1982; two infant daughters and an infant grandson; brothers Bob, Norman, Fred, Joe and Ed; sisters Gladys, Louise, Rose, Mary and Fannie; and two infant sisters.
Services will be Friday, 10 a.m., at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with Tim Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.

Blanche Smart
Died: Monday, September 17, 2001
ALBANY -- Blanche J. Smart, 77, of Albany, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 17, 2001.
Born Dec. 2, 1923, in Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Donald Emerson and Annis Bebee Davis Dye. She was retired from Litton Industries and raised beef cattle.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Smart of Albany and Marilyn Bobo of Athens; two sons, Kenneth G. Smart Jr. and Edward Allen Smart, both of Albany; two grandsons reared in the home, David and Edward Smart of Albany; six other grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ora Gilkey of Athens.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William P. Dye and James A. Dye; and a sister, Mary Kennedy.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. John Elswick officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery.

POMEROY -- Roger L. Spencer, 81, of Pomeroy, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis.
Son of the late Albert and Myrtle Heaton Spencer, he was born July 12, 1920, in Pomeroy.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Brown Spencer; and a daughter, Debra Spencer.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Ewing Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.
