RACINE -- Don C. Weese, 60, of Racine, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his residence.
Born Oct. 9, 1942, in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Carl B. and Grace Bartels Weese. He is survived by daughters Dr. Melanie Weese and Traci Breeding.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine. Burial will be in Letart Falls Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 6 to 9 p.m.
Amanuel Habtai Aibu
Died: Saturday, May 3, 2003
ATHENS -- Amanuel Habtai Aibu died peacefully on the morning of Saturday, May 3, 2003.
He was born Feb. 19, 1979, in Asmara, Eritrea. Amanuel was a scholar pursuing a masters degree in communication and development studies at Ohio University. He graduated with distinction in July 2001 in journalism and mass communication from The University of Asmara in Eritrea.
He is survived by his parents, three brothers, two sisters and two nephews.
Amanuel was a beloved friend to his fellow students; we were blessed to have known him in his time with us. He is dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, noon, at Baker Center Ballroom, with a reception to follow.
Calling hours will be held today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, Columbus. For information, call the funeral home at (614) 221-6665. Transportation arrangements to Columbus are offered by the Dean of Students Office, 593-1800.
A memorial fund for his family has been established in lieu of flowers. Contributions can be made to the African Students Union at OU.
Josephine Ruth Mohler

Age: 85
LOGAN -- Josephine Ruth Mohler, 85, of Logan, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital.
Born June 20, 1917, in Maxville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lura Beougher Wolfe. She was the widow of the late David W. Mohler, who died in 1996.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan, with the Rev. Dixie Bauman officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Perry County.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services.
Audrey Phillips Davis
Died: Friday, May 2, 2003
WELLSTON -- Audrey Phillips Davis, died Friday, May 2, 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Jayne Davis Walsh and Judy Davis Snyder; and two sons, David Davis and Gary Davis.
Besides her parents, Lucious and Mary Murl Phillips, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Davis.
Friends may call at the J.P. Rogers Funeral Home, Wellston, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
Betty Jane Dearin
Died: Friday, May 2, 2003
Age: 77
THE PLAINS -- Betty Jane Dearing, 77, of The Plains, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Mt. Carmel Hospital East, Columbus.
Born in New Floodwood, on March 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Sanford Call and Mattie Wicks.
A homemaker, she was a 50-year plus member of The Plains United Methodist Church, and was employed as a certified nurse at the former Mt. St. Marys Hospital for 12 years and a former employee of the former Goodyear Plant, Logan.
She is survived by her husband of 50-plus years, George R. Dearing; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Patsy Daring of The Plains; two grandchildren, Brian and Allison Dearing of The Plains; a sister, Mrs. Richard (JoAnn) Floyd of Cleveland; and a special friend, J.R. Gregory of The Plains; and a niece, Darlene Snowden of Dayton.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant children and brothers Chester, Edward, Deltcher and Damon Call.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Plains United Methodist Church, 3 N. Plains Road, The Plains.
Mrs. Dearing's remains will be interred in Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville, at a later date. The family requests memorials be made to The Plains United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 205, The Plains, Ohio 45780.

Marvin Hunt

Age: 61
McARTHUR -- Marvin Hunt, 61, of McArthur, died unexpectedly Friday, May 2, 2003, at his residence.
Born Dec. 13, 1941, in Pikeville, Ky., he was the son of Elfie Justice Worrix of Hamden and the late Alvin Hunt.
Employed by Austin Powder Company of McArthur for 36 years, he was an avid fisherman who loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Barney Hunt; two sons, Shawn (Nicole) Hunt of McArthur and Michael Hunt of Atlanta; a granddaughter, Brianna Hunt; a brother, Cecil (Pat) Hunt of Hamden; a niece, Stacy (Will) Bapst and a great niece, April Bapst, both of Hamden; and a sister-in-law, Kay Worrix of Hamden.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-father, Julius Worrix; a son, Brian Hunt; and a step brother, Howard Worrix.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur, with the Rev. David McManis officiating. Burial will be in Hamden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Ernest O. Lanning

Age: 80
SHAWNEE -- Ernest O. "Ernie" Lanning, 80, of New Straitsville, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at his home.
Born April 27, 1923, in Luddington, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Cassie Inman Lanning. He was clerk-treasurer for Southern Local Schools for 30 years; a World War II Army Air Corps veteran; a 1941 graduate of Central High School in Hemlock; and a life member of the American Legion, John Tauge Post 108, New Straitsville and the New Lexington Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Anna Mae (Beck) Lanning; three daughters, Kathye Lanning, Lori Lanning Perry and Lisa (Ray) Huffman; one son, Lynn (Jill) Lanning; 11 grandchildren, Jensen, Jalynn, Aidan, Tiffani, Lacy Lanning; Scott Taulbee, Elaine (Barron) Prittech, Theresa (Adam) Oldershaw and Christa Street; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Lily Cook and Edna (the Rev. Clarence) Thompson; a brother, Gene (Marie) Lanning; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce and Dorothy Lanning.
Calling hours will be held today after 6 p.m. and anytime on Monday at the J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Shawnee. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Revs. Clarence Thompson and Carolyn Hoskinson officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in New Straitsville.

Joy L. Martin

Age: 73
NEWARK -- Joy L. Martin, 73, of Newark, formerly of Shade, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at her residence.
Born Nov. 15, 1929, in Henderson, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Dewell and Helen Johnson Jones. She was a homemaker, a 1948 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and a member of the Shade United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children, William D. and Kathleen Martin, Pickerington, John E. and Judy Martin of Athens, Jerry L. and Kathy Martin of Reynoldsburg, Timothy G. and Patty Martin of Charleston, W.Va., Peggy Lea and Malcolm Grueser of Shade; and Penny W. and Paul Galloway of Newark; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Juanita Shamblin of Point Pleasant, W.Va.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William C. "Bill" Martin, in 2002; an infant daughter, Amberetta Martin; and a brother, James Jones.

Born March 16, 1913, in Rockbridge, she was the daughter of the late William Rider and Ownie Huls Rider.
