Charles Hutchinson
Died: Wednesday, February 6, 2002
NELSONVILLE -- Charles M. Hutchinson, 85, of Nelsonville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
Born May 8, 1916, in Doanville, he was the son of the late Pearley and Estelin Etta Lindsey Hutchinson. He was married to Ella Marie Hutchinson of Nelsonville.
He was retired from Carborundum Grinding Wheel Co. in Logan, was a coal miner for 26 years and a member of Happy Hollow Community Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Keith (Susie) Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Heidi Hutchinson of Seattle, Wash., and Heath Hutchinson of Nelsonville; two sisters, Ellen Hutchinson and Clara McKee, both of The Plains; and a very dear friend, Lisa Forbes of Nelsonville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Vernon; two sisters, Marie and Lucille; and an infant son.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home in Nelsonville, with Pastor Woody Frasure officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nelsonville.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m.

Leo Scott
Died: Wednesday, February 6, 2002
WELLSTON -- Leo J. Scott, 77, of Minford, a former resident of Vinton County, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.
Born May 18, 1924, in Bucyrus, he was the son of the late Leo and Harriett Kicksecker Scott. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; three sons, Dan, Donald and Gary; and two daughters, Sharon Rauhzan and Debbie Naper.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at J.P. Rogers Funeral Home in Wellston. Burial and military graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Leo.

Charles Clester
Died: Monday, August 6, 2001
CHESTERHILL -- Charles E. Clester, 49, of Zanesville, formerly of Chesterhill, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Good Samaritan Medical Center.
Born Dec. 3, 1951, in Marietta, he was the son of the late William Fredrick and Ruth McCune Clester. He is survived by a daughter, Mindy Jo.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, with burial in Mount Hermon Cemetery, Amesville.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mary Czarnik
Died: Monday, August 6, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Mary M. Czarnik, 75, of 21123 Oakdale Road, Glouster, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Mark Rest Center in McConnelsville.
She was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Glouster, daughter of the late John Toder and Elizabeth Sikorski.
Mrs. Czarnik attended Holy Cross Catholic Church in Glouster.
She is survived by a son, Louis Czarnik of Glouster; two cousins, Vicki Ross and Jean Bickley of Glouster; and a close friend, Susan Thomas.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Czarnik; and grandparents Stanley and Pauline Sikorski.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Glouster, with Fr. John Mucha officiating.
Arrangements are by Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville.
Sidney Scott
Died: Monday, August 6, 2001
THE PLAINS -- Sidney Belle Scott, infant daughter of Robert and Angela James Scott of The Plains, was stillborn Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Elizabeth; a brother, Carl; paternal grandparents Robert E. and Julia Michael Scott of The Plains; maternal grandfather David (Cyndi) James of The Plains; maternal grandmother Shirley Little of The Plains; paternal great-grandmothers Maude Belle Michael and Irene Thompson, both of The Plains; maternal great-grandfather William (Barb) Wilson of Nelsonville; and maternal great-great-grandfather Herb Wilson of The Plains.
She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandfathers Carl Michael and William Thompson; maternal great-grandparents Jean Wilson, Fred and Mary James; and maternal great-great-grandmohter Dorothy Wilson.
Services will be held Sunday, 2 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with the Rev. David Roach officiating. Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.

Robert Sheriff
Died: Monday, August 6, 2001
ATHENS -- Robert E. Sheriff, 83, was a kind and generous man who died Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.
Robert E. Sheriff was born in Cleveland on Dec. 27, 1917. He was the son of Alfred and Bertha Sheriff. He was a 1936 graduate of Lakewood High School, and a World War II pilot who completed 32 missions in Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was the chief pilot for TRW until his retirement in 1979, and was a member of Kiwanis Club of South Euclid, Fairview Baptist Church and Lyndhurst Baptist Church. He was active in QB's and Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Walt Smusz of Havelock, N.C., and Barb and Tom Kostohryz of Athens; five grandchildren, Kelly Kostohyrz of Hollywood, Calif., Katie Kostohryz of Fort Collins, Colo., Ray Kostohryz of Athens, Natalie Mengelkoch of Los Angeles, Calif., and Renee Smusz of Havelock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Landers Sheriff; his son, Ray Robert Sheriff; and his granddaughter, Kristin Kostohryz.
A celebration of his life will be held in Cleveland on Aug. 25.
Ruth Graham
Died: Sunday, August 5, 2001
JACKSONVILLE -- Ruth Ann Graham, 60, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Athens County. Ruth Ann was a Christian. She was a life member of Jacksonville VFW auxiliary and a member of Glouster Eagles.
She is survived by her mother, Martha Russell of Glouster; three sons, Michael A. (Lorrie) Vess of Glouster, Randy L. (Margaret) Vess of Deltona, Fla., and Timothy W. (Brenda) Vess of Glouster; two daughters, Tamera E. (Shane) Pritchard of Columbus and Stephanie L. Skinner of Logan; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Rex) Sayre of Glouster; her former husband, William Graham; a niece and a nephew; and a dear friend, Judy Newman.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward E. Welch; her stepfather, James Russell; an infant brother; and her first husband, Denver Lee Vess.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, 7 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Glouster.

Opal Halley
Died: Sunday, August 5, 2001
GALLIPOLIS -- Opal M. Halley, 87, of Powell, formerly of Gallipolis, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Kobacker House Hospice at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Born May 8, 1914, in Gallia County, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey L. and Ruth Elliott Johnson.
She is survived by children Rolland Halley, Wanda Plant, Linda Hill and Anne Alder.
Services will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Gallipolis First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Pine Street Cemetery.

Patricia Packard
Died: Sunday, August 5, 2001
GLOUSTER -- Patricia Jeffers Packard, 44, of Buckeye Lake, formerly of Columbus, died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001, at Doctors Hospital North, Columbus.
She was born Aug. 7, 1956, in Columbus, daughter of Oris Jeffers of Glouster and the late Lillian Kochis Jeffers.
Besides her father, she is survived by her husband, Eugene Packard; a son, Justin Packard of the home; two stepsons, Jeremy (Buffy) Packard of Columbus and Ryan Packard of Buckeye Lake; a granddaughter, Megan Packard; a sister, June Jeffers of Glouster; two brothers, James (Remy) Jeffers of Melbourne, Fla., and John Jeffers of Glouster; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Packard.
Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, with Fr. John Mucha officiating. Burial will be in Jeffers Cemetery.
