ATHENS -- Vernon A. Birtcher, 75, of Athens, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at St. Ann's Hospital in Columbus.
Born Nov. 16, 1925, in Athens, he was the son of the late Vernon and Margaret Croskey Birtcher. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; and five stepchildren, Patricia Layne, Beverlee Antle, Bill Antle, Mary Lewis and Jim Antle.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Whitmore Cemetery. There will be no calling hours or funeral services observed.
Arrangements are by Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home in Athens.
Mary Lighthall
Died: Saturday, August 4, 2001
ATHENS -- Mary Selby Lighthall, 85, died late Saturday evening, Aug. 4, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.
She was born in Nelsonville on Sept. 22, 1915, daughter of the late Garrett and Ada Matthewson Selby. Mrs. Lighthall, formerly of Virginia Beach, Va., had moved to Athens on May 2, 1999. She was a 1933 graduate of North High School in Columbus and attended Ohio State University.
She is survived by a sister, Sue Selby Miller of Fullerton, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Fitzmaurice Selby; two nieces, Joan Selby of Canton and Sally Miller of Tacoma, Wash.; six nephews, Dan (Karen) Miller of Ketchum, Idaho, Mark (Barbara) Miller of Orange, Calif., Pete (Elena) Miller of Munich, Germany, Tom (Kiki) Selby of Bronxville, N.Y., Bart Selby of Belmont, Calif., and David (Kim) Selby of Menlo Park, Calif.; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins Robert and Barbara Matthewson of Athens, where she made her home the last few years of her life; and cousins Ann and Red Steinmetz of Pataskala.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Lighthall of Virginia Beach; and a brother, Joseph Selby of Canton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home, conducted by Msgr. Patrick Gaughan. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, 7 to 9 p.m.
Arthur West
Died: Saturday, August 4, 2001
ALBANY -- Arthur West, 87, of Factory Road, Albany, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001, at Hickory Creek Nursing Center in The Plains.
Born March 28, 1914, in Vinton County, he was the son of the late Perley and Flossie Fought West. He was a sales and warehouse clerk for Luster Fought and Co. and Ogg Wholesale, and he was a farmer.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Merrick of Peoria, Ill., and Kay (Jack) Cline of Albany; five grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Ken) Hamilton, Kelly (Ben) Kasler, Curt (Wendy) Cline, Kim (Jack) Moore, and Shelly (Steve) Moore; nine great-grandchildren, Lee and Emily Lennox, Adam, Mariah and Eli Kasler, Kayla and Wesly Cline, and Carter and Garrett Moore; and two sisters, Arlene Mansfield and Eloise (Reid) Sewell, both of Albany.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a brother, Floyd West; and a brother-in-law, Merwin Mansfield.
Graveside services will be Monday, Aug. 6, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Alexander Cemetery with Pastor Willard Love officiating.
Vicky Ann Gillilan
Died: Monday, March 31, 2003
Age: 60
REEDSVILLE -- Vicky Ann Gillilan, 60, of Reedsville, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, W.Va.
Born in Nucla, Colo., she was the daughter of Mildred Bahr Lipsey of Utah and the late Victor Lipsey. She was a homemaker.
Besides her mother, she is survived by two sons, Mark and his fiancee, Cyndie, of Pomeroy, and Victor and his wife, Shellie, of Reedsville; three grandchildren, Jeremy, Aaron and Miranda; a brother, Jim Lipsey; a sister, Joyce Branson; two special aunts, Evelyn Wells and Lila Winters; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack.
Graveside services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Silver Ridge Cemetery in Reedsville, with the Rev. Chris Stewart officiating.

Pauline Myers
Died: Monday, March 31, 2003
Age: 86
LONG BOTTOM -- Pauline Myers, 86, of Long Bottom, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at her residence.
Born July 22, 1916, in Pomeroy, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Lelah Woods Mora. She is survived by a son, William Myers, and two daughters, Sue Webster and Nola Spears. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Myers.
Services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home, Coolville. Burial will be in Sandhill Cemetery, Long Bottom.

John Henry Reeves
Died: Monday, March 31, 2003
Age: 72
ALBANY -- John Henry Reeves, 72, of Fort Thomas, Ky., formerly of Albany, died Monday, March 31, 2003, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Cincinnati.
Born Nov. 4, 1930, in Meigs County, he was the son of the late John Henry and Francis Bratton Reeves. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a retired railroad engineer and a member of the VFW.
He is survived by two daughters, Genia Gray of Alexandria, Ky., and Marcella Reeves of Fort Thomas; a grandson, Adam Tyler Gray; four sisters, Winona (Ervin) Tippie of Frazeysburg, Margaret (Jim) Tippie of Powhaten Point, Virginia (Bulford) Brown of Athens and Kay Ice of New Marshfield; three brothers, Arthur (Patty) Reeves and Bernard (Laura) Reeves, both of Florida, and David (Wendy) Reeves of Tennessee.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence O'Donnell Bratton.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Bigony-Jordan Funeral Home in Albany, with Pastor Bulford Brown officiating. Burial will be in Hewitt Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by Albany VFW Post 9893.

CHESTERHILL -- Bobby J.R. Thomas, 20, of Chesterhill, died Monday, March 31, 2003.
Born July 13, 1982, in Chillicothe, he was the son of Teresa M. Thomas of Chesterhill.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill.

Juanita B. Sloan

Age: 70
MARION -- Juanita B. Sloan, 70, of Richland Road, Marion, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Marion General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 4, 1932, in Marion, daughter of the late Milo T. and Pansy Bowman Snyder.
A member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, she served as vice president for the Ladies of the Elks and was a member of Women of the Moose and American. Legion Post 162 Women's Auxiliary. She was a homemaker and was a lifelong resident of Marion.
She is survived by her husband, James C. Sloan; two sons, Ronnie (Melody) Miers of Marion and Milo (Jacqueline) Miers of Tuckasegee, N.C.; a stepson, Steve (Martha) Sloan of Athens; a daughter, Kathleen Miers of Marion; six grandchildren, Richard (Mary) Miers III of Marion, Cheri (Dale) Harrison of Georgia, Teri Dorfe of Marion, Jeremy Miers of Florida, Amy (David) Brandenstein of Mississippi and Mellisa Sloan of Cincinnati; and eight great-grandchildren, Joshua Thaw of Marion, Kyndra, Stephine, Albany and Daniell Harrison of Georgia, Brian Russell Jr. and Brandi Russell of Marion and Abigail Sloan Brandenstein of Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard L. Miers; a son, Richard L. Miers Jr.; a grandson, Rodney L. Miers; a great-granddaughter, Rachael; a sister, Juleah Hammon; and a brother, Jed Snyder.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor J. Weston Jones presiding. Burial will be in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home, Marion.

Paul Winkle

Age: 77
McARTHUR -- Paul Winkle, 77, of Augusta, Ga., died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta.
He was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Leighton, Ky., son of the late Jeff and Carlie Fike Winkle. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Perdue Winkle, and stepchildren Donnie Taylor, Betty Lonergan and Lynne Prescott. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Fee Winkle.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Garrett Funeral Home, McArthur. Burial will be in Elk Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Forest Luella Andrews
Died: Monday, January 13, 2003
Age: 89
BUCHTEL -- Forest Luella Andrews, 89, of Buchtel, passed away on Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at her residence.
Born Nov. 20, 1913, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of the late Wirt W. and Maude Lowery Whitlatch. She was the widow of James Woodrow Andrews.
She is survived by two nephews, Jack (Carole) Whitlatch of Pataskala and Bill (Shirley) Whitlatch of The Plains; a sister-in-law, Jean Whitlatch of Nelsonville; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends Ruby and Trix Hayden of Buchtel.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Whitlatch, and two brothers, Basil and James Whitlatch.
Services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.
