NEW STRAITSVILLE -- Betty Alberta Nutter, 80, of New Straitsville, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, in the skilled nursing unit at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan.
Born Sept. 1, 1922, in Murray City, she was the daughter of the late Harry Henry and Nora Francis Stephenson Hamer. She was married to John Henry Nutter Sr., who is deceased. Mrs. Nutter was a member of Gideons Auxiliary, Old Town Baptist Church and New Straitsville OES Electa Chapter.
She is survived by four children, John Henry (Pam) Nutter Jr. of New Straitsville, Paul David (Buna) Nutter of Corning, Sharon Kay (Ron) Harris of Loudon, Tenn., and Harry Bryan (Sheryl) Nutter of Lancaster; a sister, Mildred (Gene) Six of Murray City; nine grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and two special friends, Margaret Hickman and Thelma Hillyer, both of New Straitsville.
She was preceded in death by sisters Ruth Spinks and Bertha Gibbs; two stepbrothers, Clifford (Pete) Stephenson and Delbert Frazee; and a special friend, Marjorie Hoy.
Services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m., at J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 118 W. Walnut St., Shawnee, with the Revs. Filmore Ashcraft and Joe Blosser officiating. Interment will be in New Straitsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday after 2 p.m., with the family in attendance from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.

Victor S. Stover
Died: Wednesday, March 12, 2003
Age: 85
SHADE -- Victor S. Stover, 85, of Shade, died early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2003, at his home.
Born July 15, 1917, in Braxton County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Opha and Mary Myrtle Runyon Stover. He was a lifelong area carpenter and farmer, and was a member of Lodi Grange 2430.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrtle; two daughters, Sharon Rose (Carl) Misner of Pensacola, Fla., and Norma Jean (Larry) Chapman of Southpoint; five grandchildren, Bart Edward (Cathy) Chapman of Southpoint, Beverly Jean Chapman of Blacksburg, S.C., Vicki Marie (Perry) Joyce of Amelia, Gregory R. Misner of Westerville and David Carl (Samantha) Misner of Westerville; four great-grandchildren, Geena Berry, Gavin Joyce, Dylan Misner and Cody Misner; four sisters, Georgia Moore Allen of Athens, Leola Guthrie of Athens, Nellie Hartley of Columbus and Glenna (Gus) Collura of Columbus; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Dwayne Alan and Bryan Joseph Misner, and a brother killed in World War II, Otis Stover.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, 11 a.m., at Clarks Chapel Cemetery, with the Rev. Dean Blackburn officiating.
Friends may call at Hughes-Moquin Funeral Home, Athens, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Marie Malinowski

Age: 82
LOGAN -- Marie Malinowski, 82, of Logan, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in Logan.
Born Sept. 7, 1920, in Hocking County, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Alberta Chapplear Spencer. She is survived by sons Kenneth, Rocky and Ronnie Lee Malinowski.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in New Straitsville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Kathy Jane Swope
Died: Tuesday, March 11, 2003
Age: 44
MURRAY CITY -- Kathy Jane Swope, 44, of Roseville, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at University Medical Center, Columbus.
Born April 28, 1958, in Nelsonville, she was the daughter of Mary Kay McDonald Six of Murray City and the late Ronald E. Six. She was an apartment manager and a 1976 graduate of Nelsonville-York High School.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband of 23 years, Malcolm Swope; sons Shaun (Beth) Six of Millfield, and Joshua Swope and his best friend, Darcie, of Murray City; brothers Mark Six and Dannie (Anita) Six of Murray City; a sister, Lora (Jim) Hanning of Buchtel; nieces and nephews Trey and Adam Wilson, Brittany and Kyle Six; her grandparents, Eugene and Mildred Six of Murray City, and Bernice McDonald of Buchtel; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Glenn Arden and Dorothy Swope of San Benito, Texas; and loving cousins, aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her grandfather, Russell McDonald.
Services will be held Saturday, noon, at Brown Funeral Home, Murray City, with Pastor Debbie Koon officiating. Her cremated remains will be interred in Whitmore Cemetery.

Evlyn Taylor Davidson

COLUMBUS -- Evlyn Taylor Davidson, 90, of Columbus, died Tuesday, March 11, 2003.
She is survived by sons Horace B. Jr. and Joseph W. Davidson, and a daughter, Sally Hutslar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Horace Davidson, and a son, John T. Davidson.
Services will be Monday, 10:30 a.m., at North Broadway United Methodist Church, 48 E. North Broadway, Columbus. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

ATHENS -- Carolyn J. Carsey, 59, of Pleasantville, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2003, at her daughter's home.
Born June 22, 1943, in Vinton County, she was the daughter of Helen Nichols of Pleasantville and the late Herman Cook, formerly of Logan. Besides being a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother, she had been a caregiver for many years. She was a member of Lancaster First Church of the Nazarene.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dana and Helen Carsey Sr. of Athens; four children, David (Molly) Carsey of Lancaster, Dawn (Doug) Ledgett, Dana (Dorothy) Carsey and Dixie Carsey, all of Pleasantville; nine precious grandchildren, Derrick and Jennifer Hill, Justin and Shannin Ledgett, Cara and Leah Carsey, and Christian Carsey, all of Pleasantville, and Jared Carsey and Michael Sheard, both of Lancaster; two sisters, Judy (Merle) Conley of Logan and Bonnie (Jim) Weaver of Lancaster; a brother, Tom (Barb) Cook of Cave City, Ky.; half brothers Roger E. Cook of Virginia and Danny Nichols of Lancaster; half sisters Christy Miller of Lancaster and Donna Davis of Logan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law David (Nita) Carsey of New Marshfield and Ginny (Darrell) Jolley of Athens; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and her circle of friends, Sandy, Shirley, Carol, Bonnie, Judy, Cheryl and Penny.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dana E. Carsey; and grandparents Mary and Jacob Milstead.
Services will be held Friday, 1 p.m., at Halteman-Fett and Dyer Funeral Home, 436 N. Broad St., Lancaster, with Pastors Ed True and Doyal McCune officiating. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

Ruth Virginia Lawrence

Age: 85
COLUMBUS -- Ruth Virginia Lawrence, 85, of Columbus, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at Wexner Heritage House.
She was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Chauncey, to Hodge and Ruth Seiber. She retired after 24 years of service in the State of Ohio Auditor's Office and enjoyed being very active in the state's Democratic Party.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Sr.; and brother James Seiber and sister Helen Seiber. She is survived by her son, William (Barbara) Lawrence Jr. of Columbus; grandchildren Michelle (Jeff) Rickens of Hilliard, and Brent (Dollie) Lawrence of Grove City; six great-grandchildren; brother Hodge (Jean) Seiber of North Carolina; sisters Edna Vercoe of Johnstown, Donna (Dick) Johnson of Indiana and JoAnn Burson of Athens; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at Schoedinger Funeral Home, 229 E. State St., Columbus, where the funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Stewart officiating. Interment to follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.

George Leroy Clark
Died: Monday, March 3, 2003
Age: 75
NELSONVILLE -- George Leroy Clark, 75, of Wasilla, Alaska, died March 3, 2003, at Valley Hospital in Palmer, Alaska.
Mr. Clark was born April 17, 1927, in Nelsonville. He was a graduate of Nelsonville High School in 1945. He worked for Stalwart Rubber Co. in Bedford, Ohio, for 40 years. George and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Alaska in June 1979 when he retired. He worked for Rent-A-Wreck in Anchorage for five years. George's hobbies included reading, fishing and traveling.
His family said, "George will be remembered as a very soft-spoken gentleman who would always go out of his way to offer assistance to one and all. He has never been known to speak an ill word of anyone. His family was always very important to him."
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Evelyn Clark of Wasilla; his brother and sister-in-law, Rex S. and Cledythe Clark of Athens; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Karen Graham of New Philadelphia; nephews Robert Clark of Flint, Mich., John Clark of Westerville and Randy and Lonn Graham of Fort Myers, Fla.; and nieces Stephanie Reitmann of New Philadelphia and Sharon Dotson of Columbus.
Memorial services and the scattering of Mr. Clark's ashes at Deep Creek in Ninilchik will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are by Valley Funeral Home, Wasilla, Alaska.
Robert V. Sigler Jr.
Died: Wednesday, January 15, 2003
Age: 72
LOGAN -- Robert V. Sigler Jr., 72, of Logan, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at Licking Memorial Hospital, Hospice Unit, Newark.
Born Nov. 6, 1930, in Hocking County, he was the son of the late Robert V. Sigler Sr. and Helen Marie Harden Sigler Spears. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Noland Sigler.
Services will be Saturday, 2 p.m., at Cardaras Funeral Home, Logan. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery, Logan, with military services conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County.
