William "Bill" Nixon Osborn
Died: Saturday, May 18, 2002
Age: 64
William "Bill" Nixon Osborn, 64, of Topeka, Ind., formerly of Blanchester, died Saturday (May 18, 2002) at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Parsley Osborn. They were married for 47 years.
Mr. Osborn was born May 28, 1937, in Blanchester, son of the late Wilbur E. Osborn and Amy L. Nixon. He had retired as a truck driver for Roadway Express and most recently had been a driver for the Amish community in northeast Indiana. He was a member of the Topeka Mennonite Church and Teamster's Local 100 in Chicago.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Timothy L. Osborn of Wilmington, Jeffrey L. Osborn of Clarksville, Ohio, David L. (Sarah) Osborn of Clarksville, Tenn., Michael L. (Darlene) Osborn of Loveland, Diane (Roger) Pairan of Shipshewana, Ind., and Samantha J. Osborn of Topeka, Ind.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Marvin (Betty) Osborn of Blanchester and Roger (Connie) Osborn of Hamilton; and two sisters, Arlene (Gene) Trenary of Blanchester and Nancy (Billy Jo) McPhersen of Chasetown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Osborn, and two sisters, Pat Gamble and Linda Osborn.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Paul Crisp officiating, with burial in Second Creek Cemetery, Blanchester. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
John E. Pratt
Died: Sunday, April 28, 2002
Age: 81
John E. Pratt, 81, of Sabina, died Sunday (April 28, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife of 56 years, Freda M. Jordan Pratt, survives. They were married July 9, 1945.
Mr. Pratt was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Fayette County, son of the late Howard E. and Mona O. Lynch Pratt. He retired as a foreman at Cincinnati Milacron. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen (Thomas) Deters of Sabina; a grandson, Mark Winters of Sabina; a great-grandson, Mark Winters Jr.; and a sister, Gloria Pratt of Wilmington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorene McKenzie, Marjorie Vineyard and Virginia Pratt; two brothers, Robert Pratt and Meredith "Jack" Pratt; and a son-in-law, Gene Winters.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Sabina Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 49. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Charles Emery Wisecup
Died: Sunday, April 28, 2002
Age: 86
Charles Emery Wisecup, 86, formerly of 101 Jupiter St., Washington Court House, died 10:35 a.m. Sunday (April 28, 2002) at the Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana, where he had been a resident since July 1997. His first wife, Susan Laverne Cadwallader Wisecup, died June 22, 1969. His second wife, Ruth Long Swackhammer Wisecup, died March 24, 1993.
Mr. Wisecup was born April 7, 1916, in New Vienna, son of the late Ernest and Leona Lowman Wisecup. He lived most of his life in Fayette County, where he was a retired laborer and maintenance man. He was a member of the South Side Church of Christ.
He is survived by a son, Terry L. (Dorothy) Wisecup of Urbana; two daughters, Ernestine J. Johnson of Washington Court House and Lynda L. (Roy) Casey of Hillsboro; a stepson, Robert Swackhammer of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Beverly Knisley of Washington Court House; eight grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Wisecup of Wilmington and Mervin Wisecup of Wilmington; and two sisters, Norma Stanforth of Wilmington and Wilma (Frank) Simpson of Wilmington.
In addition to his wives and parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Joey Jay Carl, who died April 15, 2002; five brothers, Chester, Myron, Robert, William and Paul Wisecup; and a stepson, Larry Swackhammer.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the KIRKPATRICK FUNERAL HOME, 554 Washington Ave., Washington Court House, with South Side Church of Christ Minister Danny Dodds officiating. Cremation will follow, with burial of the cremains in Highlawn Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from noon until time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home. Lorene C. Ackerman
Died: Friday, April 26, 2002
Age: 96
Lorene C. Ackerman, 96, of Xenia, died Friday (April 26, 2002) at Outlook Pointe in Xenia. She was preceded in death by her husband, G. Dewey Ackerman. They were married June 21, 1930.
Mrs. Ackerman was born March 7, 1906, in Clinton County, daughter of the late Alex and Stella Brown Cooper. She was a member of Xenia Friends Church, where she was very active. She also was a member of a flower club, Easter Star Lodge and LaSertoma Club.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Virginia) Ackerman of Xenia; two grandchildren, Ronald (Melanie) Ackerman of Charlotte, N.C., and Swanee (Ron) Reichard of San Jose, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Bretthauer; four brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at McCOLAUGH FUNERAL HOME, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, the Rev. Harvey Smith officiating, with burial in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Rosalind Ellis Delp
Died: Friday, April 26, 2002
Rosalind Ellis Delp died Friday (April 26, 2002) a Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard T. Delp. They were married April 8, 1944.
Mrs. Delp was born Sept. 19, 1915, on the family farm east of Wilmington in Richland Township, daughter of the late Philip Morehouse and Eva Sprague Ellis. She graduated in 1933 from Reesville Local School District High School. In her youth, she had great interests in sports and horses. She was a mathematics major at Miami University in Oxford, where she was active in the Women's Athletic Association, especially in track, and she was a member of Theta Upsilon Sorority. She graduated in 1937 from MU and attended her 60th class reunion in 1997. Immediately following graduation, she participated in a faculty sponsored cross-country bus tour visiting the western national parks, Canada and Mexico. She returned home and began working at the Sabina Bank. Later she worked for the Drs. Gillespie in Cincinnati and then at Scripp's Foundation in Oxford. She and her husband raised four children and continued to live in Oxford for many years. She was a supporter of the McGuffey School P.T.A. and the Oxford United Methodist Church.
She is survived by four children, Ted Ellis Delp of Mason, Emily Delp Smucker of Medina, Philip Irwin Delp of Chillicothe and David Warren Delp of Columbus; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred W. and Robert Ellis.
The family is having a private memorial service. Following cremation, she will be buried in a family plot in Wilmington. Marie H. Mayo

Age: 100
Marie H. Mayo, 100, of 523 N. Wood St., Wilmington, died 4:39 a.m. Friday (April 26, 2002) at Friends Care Community, Yellow Springs.
She was born Jan. 11, 1902, in Morango, daughter of the late Daniel Elias and Mary Belle Corum Butler. She attended Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Society.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Mary) Mayo of Movile, Ala., and Terry M. (Blanche) Mayo Sr. of Jamestown; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Mayo of Emelle, Ala.; six daughters, Arlene (Charles) Mundy of Yellow Springs, June (Cecil) Campbell of Columbus, Revella (James) Jones of Xenia, Marcella Sampson of Yellow Springs, Wannetta Wallace of Columbus and Anestine (Jerome) Atkins of Washington, D.C.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Delmar Mayo; and two sons-in-law, Charles Theodore "Ted" Sampson and Glenwood Wallace.
A memorial service, officiated by Richard Roberts, will be scheduled at a later time. Arrangements are under the direction of REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington.
William E. Arthur

Age: 86
William E. Arthur, 86, of Wilmington, died 4:14 a.m. Tuesday (April 23, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Jane Bar Arthur, who died in 1997. They were married July 30, 1938.
Mr. Arthur was born Sept. 27, 1915, in Blanchester, son of the late E. Lowell and Edith Printy Arthur. He was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Dayton and a retired lay minister. The last church he pastored was the Lees Creek United Church of Christ. He was a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital and a member of the Wilmington F&AM Lodge 52, Wilmington Lions Club, the Train Club and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, Wilmington.
He is survived by two sons, Richard L. Arthur of Cincinnati and Roger W. (Leslie) Arthur of Chadds Ford, Pa.; a brother, E. Printy Arthur of of Perrysburg; six grandchildren, Theodore Arthur, Thomas Arthur, Mary Harmes, Jim Arthur, Christina Arthur and Andrew Arthur; and three great-grandchildren, Owen Arthur, Madeline Harmes and Alexandra Harmes.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Ziegler and Betty Moore.
At Mr. Arthur's request, his body was bequeathed to medical science. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. June 15 at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, 120 Columbus St., Wilmington, Dr. Robert Byler officiating.
