Bessie Harris

Age: 94
Bessie Harris, 94, of Blanchester, died Sunday (March 17, 2002) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harm Harris.
Mrs. Harris was born Nov. 1, 1907, in Knox County, Ky., son of the late Gilbert and Loonie Smith. She was a member of the Blanchester Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She is survived by two children, Tip (China) Harris of Blanchester and Edna Mae (Ramon) Smith of Blanchester; eight grandchildren, Randal (Shelly) Smith, Ella (Bob) Sandlin, Dearl Smith, Brenda Lee Hickson, Sheila (Jamie) Brock, Brian (Jackie) Smith, Ricky Wayne Harris and Marlene (Anthony) Hickson; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Hubert W. Peelle
Died: Sunday, March 17, 2002
Age: 80
Hubert W. Peelle, 80, of 75 Hale St., Wilmington, formerly of Martinsville, died 3:50 p.m. Sunday (March 17, 2002) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Drusilla Peggy Peelle, who died April 18, 1994. They were married March 18, 1945.
Mr. Peelle was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Blanchester, son of the late Walter I. and May Thompson Peelle. He farmed in Clinton County throughout his life and also was a real estate salesman. He was a 50-year member of the Martinsville F&AM 391 and recently, he was a member of the Wilmington F&AM 52. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati and the Royal Arch Masons of Greenfield. He was an active member of the Republican Party, serving on the Clinton County Republican Party Central Committee. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He graduated in 1939 from Adelphia High School in Ross County. He was a member of the Martinsville Friends Meeting.
He is survived by three sons, Walter Butch (Dollie) Peelle of Wilmington, William E. (Carol) Peelle of Wilmington and Robert C. Peelle (special friend Richard D. Helfinstine) of Wilmington; a sister, Harriett P. (James) Terrell of New Vienna; four grandchildren, Tracey Lynn (Rob) Zachrich, Frank Grantham (Carrie) Peelle, Carrie Renee Peelle and Chaley Elizabeth Peelle; and three great-grandchildren, Peyton Zachrich, Paige Zachrich and Parker Zachrich.
Fernando M. Garcia
Died: Saturday, March 16, 2002
Age: 83
Fernando M. Garcia Sr., 83, of Hillsboro, died Saturday (March 16, 2002) at the Highland District Hospital, Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby M. Garcia, who died Sept. 16, 2000.
Mr. Garcia was born Aug. 22, 1918, in San Diego, Calif., son of the late Frank and Amada Legaspy Garcia. He worked at the Wilmington Air Force Base from 1954 until it closed and retired from the Columbus Rickenbacker Air Force Base.
He is survived by two sons, Fernando M. Jr. (Ferdy) Garcia of Hillsboro and Denver F. Garcia of Osgood, Ind.; a sister, Maria Kellenberger of San Francisco, Calif.; a nephew, Rudy Kellenberger of Nebraska; a niece, Karen Kellenberger of California; a great-niece, Alicia Sheppeck-Zepeda; a cousin, Sokia (Henry) Vasquez of California; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Ocie Viola Milburn
Died: Saturday, March 16, 2002
Age: 91
Ocie Viola Milburn, 91, of Sabina, died Saturday (March 16, 2002) at Hospitality Home West in Xenia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wesley Milburn, in 1969. They were married Mary 6, 1933.
She was born Feb. 19, 1911, in Peebles, the daughter of the late Sherman and Bessie Davis Perdue. She spent most of her life in Clinton and Greene counties, and was a member of the Sabina Church of Christ.
She is survived by four daughters, Erma Pitzer and Louise (John) Ensley, both of Dayton, Ruby (James) Cline of Beavercreek and Daisy Houseman of Lawton, Okla.; two sons, Archie (Connie) Milburn and Dwight (Faycena) Milburn, both of Sabina; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don Ward of Rarden.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Earl; and several brothers and sisters.
Nellie E. Thornburg
Died: Saturday, March 16, 2002
Age: 101
Nellie E. Thornburg, 101, of New Vienna, died 11:40 p.m. Saturday (March 16, 2002) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Q. Thornburg.
Mrs. Thornburg was born Oct. 31, 1900, in Highland, daughter of the late Cary and Chloe Hodson Evans. She had been a school teacher in Louisiana and Ohio. She was a charter member of the New Vienna Senior Citizens. She attended New Vienna United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by a son, Harold (Carolyn) Thornburg of New Vienna; a daughter, Wilma Croghan of New Vienna; three grandchildren, Kevin (Judy) Croghan, Lewis (Cindy) Thornburg and David (Pam) Thornburg; eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Ralph Evans; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Robert L. Saylor
Died: Friday, March 15, 2002
Robert L. Saylor of Midland died Friday (March 15, 2002) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Ina Faye Roden Saylor.
He is also survived by two daughters, Janice (Monroe) Powell and Shelby Snider; three grandchildren, Nicholas Snider, Rebecca Powell and Heather Snider; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Ona E. Harper McCollister

Age: 90
Ona E. Harper McCollister, 90, of Blanchester, died Thursday (March 14, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital, She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo William McCollister.
Mrs. McCollister was born Oct. 15, 1911, in Morrow, daughter of Eugene and Susie Mounce Harper. She was a member of the D.A.R. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother.
She is survived by three sons, Bill of Morrow, Ronald of Blanchester and Paul of Blanchester; a daughter, Donna Vandervort of Wilmington; a brother, Marion Harper of Morrow, 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Jim, Joe, George and Perry Harper; and two sisters, Glenna Wiggerman and Edith Stegemoller.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at VALE-HOSKINS FUNERAL HOME, Morrow, with burial in Edwardsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Robert Braden LeValley
Died: Thursday, March 14, 2002
Age: 88
Robert Braden LeValley, 88, of Xenia, died Thursday morning (March 14, 2002) at the home of his granddaughter in New Vienna. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn LeValley.
Mr. LeValley was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Xenia, son of the late Alfonso and Laura LeValley.
He is survived by nine grandchildren, Carol Holbert of New Vienna, with whom he made his home, Melissa Regan of Wilmington, Cheryl LeValley of Indiana, Amy Scarberry of Martinsville, Jodi and Lonnie Scarberry of Martinsville, and three other grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsh Scarberry.
Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Valley View Memorial Gardens. The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to the local Hospice office or to the family. Arrangements are under the direction of McCOLAUGH FUNERAL HOME, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia.
