Paul Virginia Sperry Leto

Age: 66
Paula Virginia Sperry Leto, 66, died 10:15 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 10, 2002) at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Los Angeles, Calif.
She was born Oct. 6, 1935, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Paul Rhodes and Jincie Lillian Stewart Sperry. During her early years, she lived in Blanchester and later she attended Washington Court House High School, where she was active in clubs and drama. In the high school band she was also a majorette, under the direction of William B. Clift Jr. In 1957, she graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design. She worked as a production artist for North American Aviation in Columbus and Los Angeles. She worked at several agencies, including Faris Agency, Live Entertainment and eventually Renaissance Media, a publisher of books and audiotapes, where she was an art director at the time of her retirement.
She is survived by a sister, Jincie Louise Sperry (Frelan) VanMeter of Washington Court House; a half sister, Jean Sperry Shidaker of Wilmington; three nieces, Karen Lynn (Tim) Mitchell of Dublin, Cinda Ann (Charles) Burks and Jincie Beth (Mike) Dennis of Circleville; two half nephews, Ron (Judi) Shidaker of Wilmington and Edwin (Susan Jean) Shidaker of Hilliard; a half niece, Susan (Larry) Rinesmith of Wilmington; five great-nephews and four great-nieces, Charles II in the U.S. Marine Corps, Jessica in the U.S. Navy, Connor and Jincie Alexandra Burks, Sarah, Jason, Matthew Dennis and Eric and Kristen Mitchell; eight half great-nephews and great-nieces, Shelli Keyser, Christopher (Shauna) Shidaker of Columbus, Ryan and Sara Shidaker, Shannon and Rex Huffman of Atlanta, Georgia, Brian Shidaker and Kelly and Jennifer Rinesmith; two half great-great nephews; two half great-great-nieces; and long-time friends, Ron and Ellen Jacobs of Los Angeles.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a half brother-in-law, Morris Shidaker, and a half great-great-nephew.
A memorial service was held 1:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Hollywood Presbyterian Church, Pastor Albert Gillin officiated. Cremation will take place according to her wishes at Forest Lawn Mortuary.
Celeste Pollock Malott
Died: Tuesday, January 8, 2002
Celeste Pollock Malott of Blanchester died Jan. 8, 2002 at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis H. Malott.
Mrs. Malott was born June 9, 1912 in New Haven, Ohio. The first daughter of Jerome Tice and Clara V. Pollock, she was a member of the Ashera Rebekah Lodge 797, the Newtonsville United Methodist Church, Goshen Historical Society and various religious and social groups. For many years she served as a Sunday School superintendent and teacher, as well as a 4-H Club advisor. Travel, reading, family and friends were her lifelong joy.
She is survived by four children, Barbara Newman, Edward Malott, Jerry Malott and Elaine Burress; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and a sister, Alberta Pollock.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Pollock, and a sister, Marie Hapner.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 2, 2002 at 3 p.m. in the Newtonsville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James A. Wise officiating.

Rosella G. McQueen

Age: 90
Rosella G. McQueen, 90, of Blanchester, died Monday (Jan. 7, 2002) at Continental Manor, Blanchester. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, the Rev. A.W. McQueen of Blanchester.
Mrs. McQueen was born March 4, 1911, in Crab Orchard, Ky., daughter of the late Frank Smith and Sarah Brown. She was a member of the Blanchester Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a brother, Earl Smith of Crab Orchard, Ky.; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ronald McQueen; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Church of the Nazarene, 317 Bourbon St., Blanchester, Brother Paul Crisp presiding, with burial in Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Blanchester. Bishop Donald F. Scott Sr.

Bishop Donald F. Scott Sr., 80, of Xenia, died 12:45 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Middle Run Baptist Church, 1000 E. Church St., Xenia, with burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon at the church, with the family coming in at noon. Arrangements are under the direction of COLBERT FUNERAL HOME, 574 E. Main St., Xenia.
Phillip 'Dave' Harner Sr.
Died: Friday, January 4, 2002
Age: 53
Phillip David Dave Harner Sr., 53, of Wilmington, died 2:50 p.m. Friday (Jan. 4, 2002) at his residence. His wife, Debora McIntosh Harner, survives. They were married April 19, 1980.
Mr. Harner was born Oct. 26, 1948, in Clarksville, son of the late Charles E. and Lucille Thomas Harner. He retired from Harrison Radiator (General Motors), and owned and operated P.D.'s Lock & Key Service. Mr. Harner graduated from Clinton-Massie High School in 1967, and belonged to the Clarksville F&AM 323 and the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati. He was a member of the Springfield Friends Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Harner is survived by two sons, Jeffery David (Angela) Harner of Waynesville, and Phillip David Harner and special friend Jennifer Mayer of Wilmington; a daughter, Michele Lynn (Tony) Audia of Waynesville; a brother, Charles Benny (Janice) Harner of Wilmington; three sisters, Ronna Lou (Troy) Sandlin of Wilmington, Bonnie (Leo) Sandlin of Wilmington and Patty (Mark) Taylor of Wilmington; and four grandchildren, Amanda Marie Harner, Bo David Harner, Jacob Ray Audia and Sara Michele Audia.
The funeral service will be conducted by REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St. in Wilmington, the Rev. Paul Crisp officiating, with interment in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Howard E. West

Howard E. West, 84, of Hillsboro, died Monday (May 6, 2002) at Highland District Hospital, Hillsboro. He is survived by his wife, Reba Abernathy West. They were married June 26, 1943, near New Vienna.
Mr. West was born April 22, 1918, in Clinton County near Highland, the youngest son of the late Charles R. and Lavina Morton West. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ and had served on the board of the Mt. Olive Church of Christ. He served as a board member of the New Market Schools and was a member of the Farm Bureau and Farmers Union. He graduated in 1936 from Wayne High School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Victor E. (Beverly) West of Hillsboro; two daughters, Barbara E. Griffith of Hillsboro and Linda (Jim) Howe of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren, Brian West, Kristi Waters, Brad Griffith and April Griffith, all of Hillsboro, Katina Duncan of Lynchburg and Heather, Stephanie, Meredith, Christian, Eric and James Howe of Cincinnati; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Grimsley of Hillsboro and Kathryn Watts of Blanchester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Delbert and Fay West; and three sisters, Evelyn Newbrey, Lillian Parshall and Mary Charles.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at the Hillsboro Church of Christ, John Porter and Marvin Wilson officiating, with burial in Barnes Cemetery in Fairview. Fern E. Allen

Fern E. Allen, 77, of Wilmington, formerly of Highland, died Saturday (May 4, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 24, 1924, in Portsmouth, daughter of Mabel Harris Allen of New Vienna and the late Mark Allen Sr. She was a member of the Highland United Methodist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Mark Allen Jr. of New Vienna.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Highland Cemetery, Highland. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Edna Nolder
Died: Saturday, May 4, 2002
Age: 83
Edna Nolder, 83, of Hamilton, formerly of Lynchburg, died Saturday morning (May 4, 2002) at the Middletown Regional Hospital. Her husband, Harold Nolder, survives. They were married Oct. 26, 1943, in Hillsboro.
Mrs. Nolder was born Dec. 15, 1918, in West Liberty, Ky., daughter of the late Lafayette and Lounicy Ratliff Haney. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ, and had been a member of the Clinton County Squares.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Michael (Harriett) Nolder of Hamilton; and two grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Goyette and Sharon Renee Goyette, both of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie Benton and Pearl Wheeler; and three brothers, Edgar, Forest and Frank Haney.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the DAVIS-TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 201 Broadway St., Lynchburg, Ed Bousman officiating, with burial in the Westboro Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
