Age: 74

Donna Earley, 74, of Wilmington, died Thursday (Sept. 4, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earley.

Mrs. Earley was born Sept. 9, 1928, in Clinton County, daughter of the late Thomas Lincoln and Audrey Briggs Malone. She graduated from Wilmington High School.

She is survived by four children, Jean (Eric Hellebust) Gerard of California, Carol Ellenwood of Jamestown, John (Diana) Gerard Jr. of Clarksville and Carl Gerard of Cincinnati; three stepdaughters, Mary Lathram, Kathy (Bob) McLees and Marcia (Randy) Maze; five grandchildren, John Gerard III, Austin Pittman, Trent Gerard, Dylan Gerard and Cloe Gerard; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Monday at the FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Keith Dimbath officiating. According to her wishes, she was cremated. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 11113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, 45242-1817.

Glenn E. Bumgarner
Died: Thursday, September 04, 2003
Age: 52

Glenn E. Bumgarner, 52, of Washington Court House, died Thursday (Sept. 4, 2003) at Hospice of Dayton.

Mr. Bumgarner was born Feb. 18, 1951, in Wilmington, son of Kenneth E. (Judith) Bumgarner of Arden, N.C., and Mary Woods Bumgarner of Washington Court House. He was associated with Sterling Meade and Hague Realtors, Cincinnati, for 20 years as property manager and real estate sales. He was a former real estate broker with Bumgarner Real Estate in Wilmington. He was a member of the Methodist Church and Leadership Clinton Alumni. He was a former director of Cincinnati Apartment Association and Ohio Apartment Association. He had been residing in San Diego, Calif., for the last seven years. He graduated in 1969 from Wilmington High School and attended the University of Cincinnati for four years.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three daughters, Rachel Bumgarner of Cincinnati, Christy Bumgarner of Ashville, N.C., and Sarah Saunders of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Kathryn (Sherman) Smith and Joan (David) Stewart, both of Wilmington; a brother, Gary Bumgarner of Birmingham, Ala.; and his grandmother, Easter Woods of Washington Court House.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Bumgarner’s memory to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, 45420, or the National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation, 129 Hawkins Road, Maryland, N.Y. 12116.

Carl D. Nordyke
Died: Wednesday, October 08, 2003
Age: 99

Carl D. Nordyke, 99, died Wednesday (Oct. 8, 2003) at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Craig and Ida McKnight.

Mr. Nordyke grew up in Wilmington. He had retired as a pattern maker from Zenith. He was a member of the Central Christian Church, Dayton Lodge 147 F&AM and the Pattern Makers League of North American.

He is survived by a daughter, Louise Meckstroth; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Bernadine Nordyke; a sister-in-law, Ruth Earley of the Wilmington area; three nephews, Jack Willman, Jim Nordyke and Dale Nordyke; and two nieces, Ann North and Marianna Nixon.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert.

Graveside funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Valley View Memory Gardens, Pastor Doris Swartz officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Christian Church, 1200 Forrer Blvd., Kettering, 45420, or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, 45420. Martha Marie Hanes
Died: Tuesday, October 07, 2003
Age: 68

Martha Marie Hanes, 68, of Hamersville, died Tuesday evening (Oct. 7, 2003) at Vista Care Hospice Center, Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Hanes, who died April 30, 1997. They were married in 1952 in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

Mrs. Hanes was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Cincinnati, daughter of Alice Fry Mills of Hamersville and the late Wilbur Guy Mills.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Charles O’Dell (Pamela Sue) Hanes of Hamersville; a sister, Nellie Osborn of Blanchester; a brother, Allen G. (Ethel) Mills of Martinsville; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and father, she was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bruce Osborn; and two sisters-in-law, Ida Mae and Mary Mills.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at KENNEDY-STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 315 W. Plane St., Bethel, Joe Childress officiating, with burial in Buford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Raymond "Ray" J. Sanctis
Died: Tuesday, October 07, 2003

Raymond J. “Ray” Sanctis, 49, of 63 Woodview Drive, Wilmington, died 11:25 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Sanctis. They were married Oct. 20, 1984.

Mr. Sanctis was born April 18, 1954, in Pittsburgh, Pa., son of Frederick A. Sanctis of Pittsburgh, Pa., and the late Rose DeMonica Sanctis. He had been the owner of Allegheny Chimney Sweep Company in Pittsburgh, Pa., and a tool assembler for Addison McKee Company in Wilmington. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1224 in Wilmington and was greatly involved with Clinton County United Way. He graduated in 1972 from Carrick High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Wilmington.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by a son, Nicholas D. Sanctis, at home; a daughter, Jessie Pitcher, at home; a brother, Bob (Marna) Sanctis of Beavercreek; a sister, Jeannie (Jim) Lennon of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Mark (Manuela) Pitcher; three sisters-in-law, Peggy (Ralph) Johnson, Marti (Mike) Rahe and Lois (Don) Brinkman; his mother-in-law, Rosemary Pitcher; several nieces and nephews, Matt, Joe and Andrew Sanctis, Marc and Kristin Lennon, Kevin, Morgan and Stacey Johnson, Dani and Jared Ferneau, Abby Pitcher and Corey, Kyle and Craig Brinkman; and best friends, Bill and Sharon McCandless.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Cap Pitcher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Friday at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry St., Wilmington, the Rev. James Wedig officiating. Elizabeth Wical Terrell
Died: Monday, October 06, 2003

Elizabeth Wical Terrell of Cape May Retirement Village, Wilmington, formerly of New Vienna, died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) at Kettering Memorial Hospital, Dayton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. Terrell.

Mrs. Terrell was born in 1914 and raised in Wilmington. She moved to Hillyard Farm near New Vienna in 1935 to live with her husband and his parents. She lived on her beloved farm until two months ago, when she moved to Cape May Retirement Village. She was a devoted mother and homemaker, whose vitality and interest extended from her home to the community through active memberships and leadership of various social and service clubs, school groups and the Fairview Friends Meeting organizations. She maintained a long-time interest in researching her family genealogy and shared this research with her family. Later in life, as a concerned citizen who truly felt individuals could make a difference in national policies, she often wrote articulate letters to editors and legislators expressing her political views. She continued to write these letters until very recently. She attended Wilmington College and received a teacher’s certificate in the early 1930s. She taught briefly before stopping to raise her children. Caring and gregarious, she was an excellent teacher who returned to her profession after her four children were nearly grown. She returned as a substitute instructor and later became a special education teacher at Reesville Elementary School.

She is survived by four children, Dr. Paul W. (Carole) Terrell of Hillsboro, Janet (Roger) Achor of Farmer’s Station, Frances (Bill) Pastor of Kirtland and Dr. Rebecca (Craig) Strafford of Gallipolis; a sister, Marilyn (Roger) Sprague of Wilmington; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Fairview Friends Meeting, New Vienna. A reception for family and friends will be held following the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Fairview Friends Meeting, in care of Karen MacKenzie, treasurer, New Vienna, 45159 or the Friends Committee on National Legislation, 245 Second St. N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002-5795. Gregory Robinson Sr.
Died: Monday, October 06, 2003
Age: 45

Gregory Robinson Sr., 45, of 375 Grove St., Wilmington, died Monday (Oct. 6, 2003) on Fisher Road, Clinton County, as the result of injuries sustained in a work-related accident.

Mr. Robinson was born Dec. 12, 1957, in Wilmington, son of the late Thomas and Marjorie Burlile Robinson. He was a paving crew supervisor for Melvin Asphalt Paving Company. He was an assistant coach for the Wilmington High School baseball team, coach of the Wilmington Rockies Knothole baseball team and a basketball coach for the Wilmington City Recreational League. He was a member of the Bible Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmington. He graduated in 1976 from Wilmington High School.

He is survived by a son, Gregory Robinson Jr. of Wilmington; a daughter, Tonda (LaShawne) Rogan of Dayton; a brother, Gerald “Buddy” (Carolina) Robinson of Springfield; three sisters, Tommie (Robert) Hudson of Pleasant Plain, Mamie (Herbert) Joyner of Dayton and Eunice Rogers of Xenia; a grandchild, Isaiah Rogan; a special friend, Tina Yerian; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean King and Helen Willis.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Bible Missionary Baptist Church, 243 Grant St., Wilmington, the Rev. Byron McGee, with burial in Clinton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, and from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
