Jean Hendee, 76, of Wilmington, died 12:30 p.m. Friday (Jan. 9, 2004) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hendee. They were married Aug. 14, 1947.
Mrs. Hendee was born Oct. 23, 1927 in Dayton, daughter of the late Irving and Sarah Beard Wertz. She was a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ, a charter member of Clinton County Squares for 26 years, a 35-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and an 11-year volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital.
She is survived by a daughter, Pauletta (David) Harp of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Debbie Harp of Wilmington, Danny (Tammy) Harp of Chester, Va., and Dixie (Todd) Hazelbaker of Cincinnati; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Beth Harp, Brady Harp, Trace Hazelbaker and Jenna Hazelbaker; and a close companion, Larry Ferguson.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Steve Wetterhan officiating, with burial in the Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Wilmington Church of Christ and 10 a.m. until time of services Tuesday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Wilmington Church of Christ Building Fund, 909 W. Locust St., Wilmington. Gladys McCoy Crouse
Died: Friday, January 09, 2004
Age: 96
Gladys McCoy Crouse, 96, of Ocala, Fla., died Friday (Jan. 9, 2004) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer McCoy.
Mrs. Crouse was born April 11, 1907, in Haverhill, daughter of the late Evan V. and Anna Loomis Seeley.
She is survived by two daughters, Olive Kimberlin of Ocala, Fla., and Melba Long of Oxford; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Evan McCoy.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Arrangements are under the direction of FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington.
John D. Aldridge
Died: Wednesday, January 21, 2004
Age: 79
John D. Aldridge, 79, of Chillicothe, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning (Jan. 21, 2004) at the Chillicothe V.A. Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Garen Aldridge, who died April 1997. They were married Aug. 2, 1952.
Mr. Aldridge was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Adams County, son of the late Glatis Emeral and Nellie Mae Dodds Aldridge. He had been employed as a commercial printer with I.T.U. in Columbus, until his retirement in 1979. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and was a beloved friend of the Brookside Church of Christ in Christian Union in Chillicothe. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
He is survived by three daughters, Kaye Aldridge of Leesburg, Sharon Bales of Leesburg and Jana (Mike) Armstrong of Chillicothe; two grandsons, John (Dana) Bales of Wilmington and Chris (Amy) Bales of Mt. Orab; a great-grandson, Michael; a stepdaughter, Katherine (Ival) Mitchell; three stepgranddaughters, Mindy (Mike) Tissot, Mandy Mitchell and Mona (Dale) Eversole; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Ashley Tissot and Jared Tissot; a sister, Louise Johnson of New Vienna; two brothers, Charles (Ruth) Aldridge of St. Paris and Glatis (Jean) Aldridge Jr. of Sabina; plus several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Allender and Ruth Douglas; and a brother, Dale Aldridge.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at RHOADS-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 138 E. Main St., Hillsboro, Danny Dodds officiating, with burial in Samantha Methodist Cemetery, where the Highland County honor guard will accord full military honors. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Ella Roberta Shupert
Died: Monday, January 19, 2004
Age: 61
Ella Roberta Shupert, 61, of Bean Station, Tenn., formerly of Wilmington, died Monday (Jan. 19, 2004) at her home in Bean Station, Tenn.
She was born July 25, 1942, daughter of the late William and Wanda Moon Shupert.
She is survived by three children, James (Tonya) Shupert of Bean Station, Tenn., Roberta (Rodney) Banta of Goldsboro, N.C. and Tony Shupert of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Shane, Justin, Cara, Paul, Mandy, Vicki and Caleb; two sisters, Wilma Lowman of Franklin and Pauline Grube of Columbus; and a brother, William Shupert of Pennsylvania.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Richard and Tom Shupert; and two sisters, Barbara Fouch and Charlotte Hiatt.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Barbara Blocker Brooks
Died: Sunday, January 18, 2004
Age: 52
Barbara Blocker Brooks, 52, of Havelock, N.C., died Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) at Kitty Atkins Hospice Center. She is survived by her husband, Bill Brooks.
She was the daughter of Martha Joyce. She was a devoted teacher at Annunciation Catholic School, where she was also an active church member.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Wayne Joyce; a son, Jason Brooks of Durham, N.C.; a daughter, Jamie Brooks of Mt. Olive, N.C.; and four brothers, David Blocker and Dennis Blocker, both of Blanchester, and Todd Joyce and Jay Joyce, both of Lebanon.
A memorial mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Annunciation Catholic Church in Havelock, N.C., Padre Roberto officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Catholic School, 246 E. Main St., Havelock, N.C. 28532. Harold M. Day
Died: Sunday, January 18, 2004
Age: 86
Harold M. Day, 86, of Hillsboro, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He is survived by his wife, Faye E. Davidson Day. They were married Sept. 11, 1938, in Maysville, Ky.
Mr. Day was born March 19, 1918, in Peebles, son of the late Herman “Flick” and Etta Harris Day. His career started in Schaeffer’s Supermarket in Portsmouth and was transferred to Hillsboro. He was store manager for Schaeffer’s Supermarket and later worked for Kroger in Wilmington and as a store manager for Uhl’s IGA in Sabina. He had owned and operated the H.M. Day Company and Day Crafters in Wilmington and Greenfield. He was presently working as a security officer for Wackenhut in the ABX Air complex in Wilmington. He graduated from Hillsboro High School and was the class speaker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by three daughters, Janet Marlene Norris of Leesburg, Barbara K. Ellis of Highland Heights, Ky., and Carol A. Day of Hillsboro; a son, Harold Richard “Dick” Day of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Shelly Allen of Willettsville, David Norris of Leesburg, Tracy Markgarf of Hebron, Ky., Jennifer Seward of Cincinnati, Josh Day of Wilmington, Kris Day of Wilmington, Terri Tate of Hillsboro and Jason Carman stationed with the U.S. Air Force in England; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Day.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family, Pastor Dan Lamb officiating, with burial in Locust Grove Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Adams County honor guard. There will be no visitation. Friends and family are invited to a reception of friends 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church. Kenneth R. Bullen
Died: Sunday, January 18, 2004
Age: 72
Kenneth R. Bullen, 72, died Sunday (Jan. 18, 2004) in Laredo, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Elva Falcon Bullen. They were married for 51 years.
Mr. Bullen was born Sept. 5, 1931, in Blanchester, son of the late Hubert L. and Orba E. Carey Bullen. He had retired as a U.S. Air Force chief master sergeant and served in Korea and Vietnam. He worked for the USDA, Commission Mexico Americana in Laredo, Texas, for 18 years. He was a member of the DAV, VFW, AFSA and the American Legion. He resided in Laredo since 1952.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol A. (Dave) Cofer of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Mary E. (Frank) Ramirez III; a son, Steven F. Bullen of Laredo, Texas; three grandchildren, Jaclyn (Foreman) Kelley of Canyon Lake, Texas, Christopher M. (Erika) Birch and Frank R. Ramirez IV of Laredo, Texas; a great-grandson, Blake P. Kelley of Canyon Lake, Texas; two brothers, Carey E. (Phyllis) Bullen of Milford and Larry E. (Phyllis) Bullen of Williamsburg; seven sisters, Barbara L. (Malcolm) Strickland of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Sue A. Bullen of Wilmington, Brenda (Gene) Fawley of Hillsboro, Ruth (Arnold) Lansing of Wilmington, Nancy (Tom) Garner of Wilmington, Rosemary (Thomas) Brammell of Columbus and Kathleen L. (Perry) English of Ostrander; and two sisters-in-law, JoAnn (Gerald) Conley of Melbourne, Fla., and Polly Bullen of Panama City, Fla.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Bullen of Laredo, Texas; and two brothers, Darrell E. Bullen of Columbus and Ronald L. Bullen of Panama City, Fla.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at JOE JACKSON HEIGHTS FUNERAL CHAPELS, 719 Loring, Cortez, Texas. Interment will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the family plot at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Paul William Mullen

Age: 81
Paul William Mullen, 81, of Clarksville, died Friday (Jan. 16, 2004) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy H. Mullen. They were married April 23, 1946.
Mr. Mullen was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Middleboro, son of the late Charles Elmer and Elizabeth Monce Mullen. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He was a member of the Wilmington American Legion Post 49 and a life member of the Wilmington V.F.W. Post 6710.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Eddie (Pam) Mullen of Wilmington, Letha (Pat) Turner of Clarksville, Elizabeth (Edward Geyman) Burgel of Clarksville, Barbara Cornette of Clarksville and Norma (Gary) Hovermale of Clarksville; a sister, Ruth Curl of Shelbyville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Ann Mullen; a sister, Goldie Constant; and four brothers, Earl Mullen, Charles Mullen, Norman Martin Mullen Sr. and Orville Mullen.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Ann Myers officiating, with burial in the Clinton County Memory Gardens, where the Wilmington American Legion Post 49 memorial squad will accord full military honors. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Clarksville Life Squad or the Clarksville United Methodist Church.
