Viola E. Crone

Age: 86
Viola E. Crone, 86, of Hamilton, died Tuesday (Aug. 26, 2003) in Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F. Crone, who died in 1973. They were married Nov. 21, 1940, in Hamilton.
Mrs. Crone was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Hamilton, daughter of Edward P. and Verna Vilvens Davis. She was a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Celeste (James C.) Phares of Trenton; two grandsons, Brent A. Phares and David E. Phares; a sister, Linda Roark of Hamilton; two sisters-in-law, Clara Davis and Marie Crone; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held following visitation today at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fayetteville. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. today at WEIGEL FUNERAL HOME, 980 N.W. Washington Blvd., Hamilton. Mrs. Crone’s family wishes to thank the communion workers at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church and Meals-on-Wheels from Westover.
John W. Short
Died: Monday, August 25, 2003
Age: 76
John W. Short, 76, of Washington Court House, died Monday (Aug. 25, 2003) at Court House Manor. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Morris Short of Washington Court House.
Mr. Short was born March 17, 1927, son of the late Harry and Stella Hastings Short. He owned Shorts Well Drilling for 38 years and was an avid bee keeper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepmother, Gladys Short of Washington Court House; four children, Frances (Eldon) Roberts of Leesburg, Arlene (Lee) Perkins of Leesburg, Jerry (Helen) Short of Washington Court House and Diane (Harold) Johnson of Washington Court House; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betsy (Harold) Speelman and Phyllis (Raymond) Robinson of Washington Court House; and by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Daris Short.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Washington Avenue House of Prayer, with burial in Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at WELLMAN-KINZER FUNERAL HOME, 509 Washington Ave., Washington Court House.
Joseph "Joey" M. Kmatz
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 23
Joseph M. “Joey” Kmatz, 23, of Sabina, died Sunday (Aug. 24, 2003) in Sabina.
Mr. Kmatz was born Feb. 5, 1980, in Steubenville, son of Joseph E. and Connie Honzik Kmatz of Sabina. He was a senior aircraft structure technician with ABX. He graduated in 1998 from East Clinton High School and received his AMP license from Laurel Oaks.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiance, Jennifer Waldmann of Sabina; a sister, Jamie Kmatz of Sabina; his grandparents, Joseph R. and Sara L. “Sally” Kmatz and Doris E. Culp, all of East Springfield; and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Honzik.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
Roger Walker
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 56
Roger Walker, 56, of Wilmington, died Sunday (Aug. 24, 2003) at Kettering Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Lora Marshal Walker. They were married Jan. 7, 1984, and they renewed their vows Aug. 10.
Mr. Walker was born Oct. 12, 1946, in Columbus, son of Elizabeth I. Moore Walker of Leesburg and the late Harry R. Walker. He was a machinist, toolmaker and self-employed horse trainer. He graduated in 1964 from Sabina High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He had an unending love for horses and for showing them. He was associated with, well known and liked in numerous quarter horse, paint horse, Appaloosa and other horse organizations. He also was known for the patience and guidance he used to instruct youth and amateurs with learning how to ride and show their horses. His greatest love of all was helping his daughter, Allison, and watching her show her horses and dairy cows.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Allison Walker, at home; a brother, Randall (Connie) Walker of Leesburg; a sister, Suellen (Mike) Jenkins of Martinsville; two nieces, Stephanie and Jill Walker; and a nephew, Cody Jenkins.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tessa Ann Walker.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Springfield Friends Church, with burial in the Springfield Friends Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roger Walker Memorial Fund, in care of Wilmington Savings Bank, 184 N. South St., Wilmington. The funds will be distributed to Mr. Walker’s favorite charities and to his family.
Eugene Patterson
Died: Sunday, August 24, 2003
Age: 76
Eugene Patterson, 76, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Aug. 24, 2003) at Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Brown Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was born Dec. 30, 1926, son of the late Benjamin Patterson and Mary Beth West. He was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Danny Eugene (Linda) Patterson of College Hill, Dennis Lane (Penny) Patterson of Pleasant Plain, Tyrone Dean (Thersea) Patterson of Mt. Orab and Lillian Jean (Donald) Helton of Loveland; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Woodrow Patterson of Pleasant Plain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1668 SR 28, Goshen, Pastor Bill Webb officiating, with burial in Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Blanchester. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Alpha Sue Baker
Died: Saturday, August 23, 2003
Age: 92
Alpha Sue Baker, 92, of Midland, died Saturday (Aug. 23, 2003) at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. She is survived by her husband, Boliver Baker of Midland. They were married for 68 years.
Mrs. Baker was born June 5, 1911, in Breathitt County, Ky., daughter of the late Charlie Baker and Belle Bowling.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Margaret (Charles) Bitzer of Owenton, Ky., Sarah Belle (Thomas) Bloemker of Cincinnati and Randal (Gail) Baker of London; two brothers, Custer Baker and Alfred Russell Baker; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, Brother Delbert Saylor officiating, with burial in Jefferson Township Cemetery, Westboro. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Estel F. Hayslip
Died: Sunday, November 16, 2003
Age: 74
Estel F. Hayslip, 74, of 100 E. Short St., Wilmington, died 9:30 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 16, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Achor Hayslip, who died May 11, 1993. They were married Sept. 18, 1948.
Mr. Hayslip was born March 21, 1929, in Clinton County, son of the late Minor Watson and Julia Ellen Conger Hayslip. He was a blacktop foreman for WKW Construction and retired in 1989 after 44 years with the company. He enjoyed gardening and lawn mowing. He served in the Ohio National Guard. He was loved by all of his family, neighbors and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Hayslip of Wilmington and Madge Hayslip of Wilmington; two brothers, Chet (Sandy) Hayslip of Wilmington and Ed (Leona) Hayslip of Wilmington; a grandchild, Estel Eugene Wagner; four “adopted grandchildren,” Ted Cioca, Kathryn Cioca, Babs Cioca and Korri Cioca; a sister-in-law, Elsie Wells; close neighbors and friends, Bill and Sharon McCandless, Jennifer and Scott Floyd and Betty Wade; several close and special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Estel Hayslip Jr.; seven brothers, Oscar Hayslip, Kenneth Hayslip, Junior Hayslip, Jasper Hayslip, Dan Hayslip, Otis Hayslip and Orville Hayslip; and four sisters, Marie Hayslip, Lis Nelson, Janie Adams and Ada Neanover.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., with burial in Clinton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Howard Remley Bohl
Died: Wednesday, November 12, 2003
Age: 90
Howard Remley Bohl, 90, of Westerville, died Wednesday (Nov. 12, 2003) at the Village of Westerville Nursing Center. He is survived by his wife, Geneva Smith Bohl. They were married 67 years.
Mr. Bohl was born Nov. 14, 1912, in Brown County, son of the late Charles H. and Nettie Remley Bohl. He lived all of his life in Ohio. He taught school for 20 years at Jeffersonville, Sabina and Blanchester and managed Wood Acres Farm at St. Martin for 18 years. He was a 65-year member of the Grace United Methodist Church. He regularly attended the Church of the Messiah UM in Westerville. He was a member of the Cary Chapter of O.E.S. in Blanchester and the F&AM Masonic Lodge in Jeffersonville. He graduated from Wayne Township High School, Lees Creek, and from The Ohio State University College of Agriculture in 1934.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, John Bohl of Lynchburg and Elizabeth (Bill) Burck of Westerville; two grandchildren, David (Cindy) Burck of Hilliard and Sara (Daniel) Marrero of Reynoldsburg; a great-granddaughter, Mariana Marrero; two brothers, Dr. Edward (Jessie) Bohl of Wooster and Dr. Charles (Rosemary) Bohl of Urbana; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Glover; and two brothers, Walter Bohl of Columbus and Richard Bohl.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, the Rev. Stan Fawley officiating, with burial in Centerville Cemetery, Lees Creek. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
