Age: 73
Dorothy Jean Logan, 73, of Blanchester, died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2003) at Jewish Hospital in Kenwood. Her husband, Carroll “Bud” Logan, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Logan was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Knoxville, Tenn., daughter of the late Louis Roscoe and Mary LouElen Collins Cabe.
She is survived by eight children, Dave (Peggy) McNish of Troutman, N.C., Madeline Bellis of Jackson, Mo., Sharon (Chuck) Ward of Pleasant Plain, Rick (Alice) Logan of Monroe, Gwen (Henry) Florea of Blanchester, Donnie Williams of Florida, Jeanie “Tinker” Fahy of Dayton and Regina (Al) Cordes of Marathon; a brother, Edward R. Cabe of Coshocton; a sister, Lois Beeny of Hendersonville, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Jimmy McNish and Toby Logan; three brothers; and a sister.
Services will be noon Saturday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Madeline Bellis officiating, with interment in Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
J. Clayton Bud Curtis
Died: Wednesday, December 31, 2003
Age: 80
J. Clayton “Bud” Curtis, 80, of Sabina, formerly of New Vienna, died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 2003) at Mount Carmel West Medical Center in Columbus. His wife, Mildred “Mickey” Murray Curtis, died March 2, 2002. They were married July 21, 1946.
Mr. Curtis was born Dec. 26, 1923, in Blanchester, son of the late Eugene and Grace Eleanor Thompson Curtis. He was a World War II Army veteran and a retired factory worker. He attended Prince of Peace Freewill Baptist Church and Sabina House of Prayer after moving to Sabina to reside with his daughter.
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Jim) McDowell of Sabina and Barbara (Fred) Bryan of Bloomingburg; two sons, Gary C. (Lynne) Curtis of Parkersburg, W. Va. and Jerry Curtis of Sabina; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sanford E. Curtis of New Antioch; and a sister, Frances Bosier of Wilmington.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Bartt Lee Curtis; a brother, Paul Curtis; and two sisters, Marvel Jean Stackhouse and Margaret Pearl Curtis.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in New Antioch Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 49. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Melissa D. Curtis Osman
Died: Wednesday, December 31, 2003
Age: 33
Melissa D. Curtis Osman, 33, of Xenia, died Wednesday morning (Dec. 31, 2003).
She was born May 20, 1970, daughter of David Curtis of Jamestown and Patricia K. Faber of Xenia. She was employed by Hillspring Health Care in Springboro.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by two daughters, Kayla Renee and Morgan Dawn Hollon; her stepmother, Linda Curtis of Jamestown; two brothers, Joshua Michael Faber of Xenia and Ryan (Helena) Curtis of Jamestown; a stepbrother, Rob (Angie) DeHaven of Jamestown; Kayla and Morgan’s father, John Hollon of Cuba; and a very special friend, Berry Duggins of Xenia.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Agnas Patrick and Charles and Irene Curtis.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Limestone St., Jamestown, with burial in Grape Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Gladys Pauline Rogers

Age: 77
Gladys Pauline Rogers, 77, of Xenia, died Wednesday afternoon (Dec. 31, 2003) at Hospice of Dayton. Her husband, John W. Rogers, survives. They were married Feb. 23, 1980. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elmer Stephenson, and her second husband, Dema Bowermaster.
Mrs. Rogers was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Reesville, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Hudson Martin. She was a retired registered nurse and was a member of the First Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Edward E. (Donna J.) Stephenson of Reesville; a stepdaughter, Linda (Gary) Carpenter of New Carlisle; a stepson, Kevin (Lisa) Rogers of Xenia; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Flora Brooks of Whittier, Calif. and Thelma Brownlee of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and a brother, Joseph Martin Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.
In addition to her first and second husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Martin; and a stepdaughter, Regina Rogers.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the NEELD FUNERAL HOME, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, the Rev. Mike Rhodehamel officiating, with burial in Sabina Cemetery. Dwight W. Lister
Died: Tuesday, December 30, 2003
Age: 86
Dwight W. Lister, 86, of 2495 Goodwin St., Brownsville, Texas, formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2003) at Brownsville Medical Center, Brownsville, Texas. He is survived by his second wife, Angelica Lister of Brownsville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ceola Wheeler Lister, who died Jan. 29, 1978. They were married Aug. 20, 1942.
Mr. Lister was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Kansas, son of the late William and Austia M. Conrad Lister. He worked for Crosley in Cincinnati, in the Avco division and for McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis, Mo. He also owned and operated his own TV repair business. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He also was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation.
In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a son, William “Billy” (Nancy) Lister of Amanda; a brother, Harry Monroe Lister; three half-sisters; four grandchildren, Christopher (Connie) Lister of Leesburg, Scott Lister of Orlando, Fla., Kim Lister Comberger of Georgetown and Lisa Lister (Bill) Comberger of Hamersville; and nine great-grandchildren, Curtis Lister, Courtney Lister, Ciera Lister, Chelsi Comberger, Samantha Comberger, Alex Comberger, Barrett Comberger, Cameron Comberger and Madison Comberger.
In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bonnie Jean Lister and Lois Lewis.
Services will be held noon Wednesday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. Helen Louise Riley

Age: 87
Helen Louise Riley, 87, of New Vienna, died 7 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2003) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. Her husband, Robert L. Riley, died March 1, 1997. They were married March 17, 1938.
Mrs. Riley was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Bainbridge, daughter of the late Oron and Millie Houseman. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Sharon) Riley of Wilmington and Ronald Riley of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Rhonda K. (Pat) Shultz of Wilmington, Bradley Riley of Washington and Bryan Riley of Nevada; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Maxfield, Tara Maxfield, Bretney Riley and Bryce Riley; and several nieces.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Houseman and Harold Houseman; and a sister, Sara Houseman.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at L. EUGENE SMITH AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 64 S. South St., New Vienna, the Rev. Robert Baker officiating, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Leesburg. Lt. Col. Robert T. Hart
Died: Tuesday, December 30, 2003
Age: 78
Lt. Col. Robert T. Hart, retired, 78, of Wilmington, died noon Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife, Margaret Eloise Hart, survives. They were married April 6, 1947.
He was born March 13, 1925, in Fulton, Ky., son of the late Tan and Kate Cook Hart. A retired lieutenant colonel from the United States Air Force, he was a veteran of World War II. He was a two-time member of the Caterpillar Club, a recognition earned when a pilot jumps from a plane that has been shot down. He was first shot down May 8, 1944, and again on May 16, 1944. He was captured after being shot down the second time and was a prisoner of war for 11 months. He was a member of the Buckeye Wing (formerly known as the 302nd TAW Clinton County Air Force Base) and the 398th Bomb Group, a World War II B-17 reunion organization. He was a 50-year member of the F&AM Lodge 98 in Minerva and the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton. He was a graduate of Fulton High School in Kentucky, where he played football and basketball.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Gregory (Peggy) Hart of Wilmington and Steven (Linda) Hart of Kennesaw, Ga.; a daughter, Kathleen (Alan Krulisch) Hart of Arlington, Va.; four grandchildren, Christopher Hart of Cincinnati, Michael Hart of Cincinnati, Lucas Hart of Kennesaw, Ga. and Madison Hart of Kennesaw, Ga.; and his beloved dog, April.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hart.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the American Legion Post 49 memorial squad. Oscar Eugene Spencer
Died: Tuesday, December 30, 2003
Age: 86
Oscar Eugene Spencer, 86 of Blanchester, formerly of Belpre, died 3:30 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 30, 2003) at Continental Manor, Blanchester. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Duskey Spencer, who died in 1983. There were married in 1950.
Mr. Spencer was born Sept. 15, 1917, in Delaware, Ohio, son of Charles R. and Francis Loretta Roof Spencer, both of whom were licensed funeral directors. He graduated from Belpre High School and the Cleveland College of Embalming. He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and was owner of Spencer Funeral home, Belpre, which was started in 1927. Through his association with the Lions Club, he was instrumental in bringing about many corneal transplants. He was a member of the Belpre Congregational Church, where he served on various boards and committees, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He was a 65-year member of Belpre Lodge 609, F&AM and the Aladdin Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Columbus and a charter member of Belpre Chapter 541, Order of Eastern Star. He was a charter Chapter Dad of Belpre Order of Demolay and a recipient of the Demolay Cross of Honor. He was active as Kootaga area councilman, the Boy Scouts of America and a 75-year member of Belpre Boy Scout Troop 13 in Belpre. He served on many committees of the Kootaga area council and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He had been a Cub Scout pack leader for Pack 91 in Belpre and had been an Explorer leader. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 495 in Belpre and a member of 40&8. He was active in the community as a businessman and a member of the Belpre Chamber of Commerce. He was a two-time recipient of the Belpre Jaycees Man of the Year Award. He had been an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by two sons, Bruce (Elaine) Spencer of Columbus and Jeffrey (Paula) Spencer of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Angela Bishop, Matthew Spencer, Daniel Spencer and David Spencer; a great-granddaughter, Christine Bishop; and a brother, H. Clifton (Gwen) Spencer of Belpre.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Whitehead and Charlene Guerriero.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Belpre Congregational Church, 228 Main St., Belpre, the Rev. Jeffrey Atwater and the Rev. Paul A. McGuire officiating, with burial in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, where full military rites will be observed. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Barlow Chapel of CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOME, state Route 339, Barlow, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
