Ova Gene Whitt

Age: 74
Ova Gene Whitt, 74, of Clarksville, died Saturday (Sept. 20, 2003) at the Cleveland Clinic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Whitt, who died in 1994.
Mr. Whitt was born March 8, 1929, in Edna, Ky., son of the late Morton Whitt and Laura Harper. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 191 in Blanchester, a 50-year member of Scottish Rite in Cincinnati and had earned his 32nd degree, a member of Eastern Star in Blanchester and the Woodville Baptist Church.
He is survived by a brother, James K. (Juanita) Whitt of Port Clinton; a sister, Jessie Reed of West Liberty, Ky.; a special friend, Marie Thurman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rouie Le Master.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodville Baptist Church, Woodville Road, Blanchester, Brother Bill Webb officiating, with interment in Edwardsville Cemetery, Harlan Township, Warren County. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, with Masonic services held at 7:45 p.m.
Charles G. Dodds
Died: Saturday, September 20, 2003
Age: 84
Charles G. Dodds, 84, of Hillsboro, died Saturday (Sept. 20, 2003) at Heartland of Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Louise Cooper Dodds, who died Aug. 19, 1988.
Mr. Dodds was born April 6, 1919, in Highland County, son of Edward and Mary Simbro Dodds. He was a partner in D&L service station in Hillsboro and owned and operated Charlie’s Carry-out in Hillsboro for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Jim) Siders of Wilmington and Dianna (Mose) Workman of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Candace Siders of Wilmington and Caleb Siders of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Siders and Ashlee Griffith.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Dodds, and a sister, Doris Dodds.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at HOPE MILLER-THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 241 E. Main St., Hillsboro, the Rev. Jeffrey Griffin officiating, with burial in the Twin Township Cemetery in Bourneville, where military graveside rites will be held by the Highland County honor guard. Jan Hobart
Died: Saturday, September 20, 2003
Age: 50
Jan Hobart, 50, of Wilmington, died Saturday evening (Sept. 20, 2003) at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Jim Hobart.
Mrs. Hobart was a retired registered nurse and was a member of the Princeton Pike Church of God.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Bonnie Rogers; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Richard and Helen Hobart.
Family and friends will meet 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Memorial Cemetery, with an 11 a.m. graveside service. Father Henry Swann will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association. Gentry Tipton

Age: 75
Gentry Tipton, 75, of Wilmington, died 10 P.M. Saturday (Sept. 20, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife, Marsella Tipton, survives. They were married Dec. 23, 1950.
Mr. Tipton was born March 2, 1928, in Estill County, Ky., son of the late Marshall D. and Barbara Moreland Tipton. He worked for Phillips Industries in Dayton for 37 years until he retired. He was a loving husband and father.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ron Tipton of Wilmington; four daughters, Pat (Bill) Rhea of Clarksville, Linda McMillen of Wilmington, Teresa Tipton of Kettering and Pam (Mike) Fahrubel of Clarksville; a brother, Richard (Dee) Ashcraft of Dayton; a sister, Joyce (Hobart) Hall of Revenna, Ky.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time of the service Thursday. Lucille T. Callahan McKinney

Age: 98
Lucille T. Callahan McKinney, 97, died Friday (Sept. 19, 2003). Her husband, Estel McKinney, preceded her in death.
She is survived by three children, Carl (Jean) McKinney, Shirley Lowry and Pat (Carroll) Drostie; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Estel McKinney.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene, 33 W. 65th St. Visitation will be from noon until time of the services at the church. Sharon L. Curliss Collins
Died: Thursday, September 18, 2003
Age: 50
Sharon L. Curliss Collins, 50, of Fairview Heights, Ill., formerly of Wilmington, died Sept. 18, 2003, at her home. She is survived by her husband, Richard Collins, formerly of Wilmington.
Mrs. Collins was daughter of the Juanita Curliss of Wilmington and the late Robert Curliss. She was a retired GSA accountant. She served as a staff sergeant, communication specialist, in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, James (Jennifer) Collins of Belleville, Ill.; a daughter, Rebecca (Shawn) Miller of Belleville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Jamie, Samantha and Quinn Miller and Kristian Collins, all of Belleville, Ill.; and a brother, James (Marilyn) Curliss of Loveland.
Following a military service, Mrs. Collins was buried Tuesday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
Russell "Bud" B. McCoy Jr.

Russell B. “Bud” McCoy Jr., 83, of 22 Colonial Court, Washington Court House, died 5:25 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 8, 2003) at Mount Carmel West in Columbus, where had been a patient since Thursday. He is survived by his second wife, Evelyn Haynes Lynch McCoy. His first wife, Evelyn Louise Morrow McCoy, died June 2, 1967.
Mr. McCoy was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Fayette County, son of Russell Bond Sr. and Bertha Walker McCoy. He lived most of his life in Fayette County, where he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was a member and past president of the Good Hope Lions Club. He was a 50-year member of the Greenfield F & AM Lodge 318 and a 50-year member of Chapter 40 of the Royal Arch Masons in Hillsboro. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Valley of Columbus and was a member of the Aladdin Temple Shrine in Columbus and the Washington Shrine Club. A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of Paul H. Hughey Post 25 of the American Legion.
In addition to his second wife, he is survived by two sons, Roger (Pam) McCoy of Sabina and Donald A. McCoy of Washington Court House; three stepchildren, Dale (Vicki) Lynch of Washington Court House, Gale Lynch of Cleveland and Lowell (Jeannie) Lynch of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) McBee, Bethany (David) Batson and Bryan (Amanda) McCoy, all of Washington Court House; five great-grandchildren, Kaden Roberts, Hunter McBee, Jacob Batson, Andrew Batson and Aubrey McCoy; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harold Dean Morrow of Novi, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Lord of Cincinnati; and two nieces, Rosalie Hill of Greenfield and Vera McCoy of Washington Court House.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas McCoy; two sisters, Melba McCoy and Geraldine Walker; and a brother-in-law, Robert Morrow.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the KIRKPATRICK FUNERAL HOME, 554 Washington Ave., Washington Court House, the Rev. Dr. Wayne O. Clark, pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Dr. Edwin E. Beale, pastor of the Staunton and Sugar Grove United Methodist churches, officiating. Burial will be in the Good Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Pauline Watson

Pauline Watson, 89, of Wilmington, died Friday (Nov. 7, 2003) at Heartland of Kettering. Her husband, Leo J. Watson, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Watson was born Aug. 22, 1914, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Clarence and Florence Conklin Whitehead. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, the Mary Group, The Kensington Club, the George Clinton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, of which she served as regent and vice regent. She also a member and past president and treasurer of the Wilmington Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was a member of the Clinton County Historical Society, which she had served as the flag chairperson, and was a former employee of the Clinton County Air Force Base and Litt Brothers.
She is survived by a son, Mike (Debbie) Watson of Dayton; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Eric) Gustavus of Dayton; a grandson, John Lucas of Dayton; two great-grandchildren, Abigail Jones and Joseph Gustavus; two nieces, Linda (Frank) Sexten of Xenia and Judy (Roger) Truesdale; a nephew, James (Pat) Fawcett of Tampa, Fla.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorotha Fawcett; and a brother, Donald Whitehead.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Donald K. Mertz officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
