Harold K. Chaney

Age: 81

Harold K. Chaney, 81, of 546 Forest Lake Drive, Wilmington, died 6:17 p.m. Wednesday (July 9, 2003) at Hospitality Homes in Xenia. He is survived by his wife, Katherine Haywood Chaney. They were married Oct. 21, 1993.

Mr. Chaney was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Westboro, son of the late Cuthbert and Catherine Murphy Chaney. He retired from General Motors. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge 273 in Norwalk, Calif. and the American Legion in California. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James K. (Peggy) Chaney of Texas; a stepson; a stepdaughter; a brother, Charles (Gloria) Chaney of Wilmington; five grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, the Rev. Mary E. Cochran officiating, with burial in Troutwine Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 49 memorial squad. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Masonic services held at the conclusion of visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clinton County, 61 E. Mary Emma Benett
Died: Wednesday, July 09, 2003
Age: 91

Mary Emma Bennett, 91, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (July 9, 2003) at Autumn Years Nursing Center, Sabina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin W. Bennett, who died Feb. 14, 1984. They were married Dec. 28, 1940.

Mrs. Bennett was born Jan. 28, 1912, in Clinton County, daughter of the late Joseph William and Edna Delong Gregory. She retired from school teaching after 36 years at Kingman, Sabina, Reesville and Wilmington. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Wilmington, the AAUW and the Clinton County Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by two sons, Phillip (Bonnie) Bennett and Jerry (Norma) Bennett of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Rick (Julie) Bennett, Kevin Bennett, Melissa (Paul) Krause and Brian W. (Velvet) Bennett; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren and Stephen Krause and Barek Bennett.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Gregory.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Ruth E. Kelly
Died: Wednesday, July 09, 2003
Age: 90

Ruth E. Kelly, 90, of 820 E. Center St., Blanchester, formerly of Cuba, died 6:35 a.m. Wednesday (July 9, 2003) at Continental Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Kelly, who died May 5, 1987. They were married Sept. 4, 1935.

Mrs. Kelly was born Sept. 4, 1912, in Warren County, daughter of the late Harry C. and Eva Bryan Atkinson. She was a member of Cuba Friends Meeting. She graduated from Kingman High School and Wilmington College.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Barbara) Kelly of Cuba, Roger C. (Ruth M.) Kelly of Blanchester and Paul A. (Bonnie) Kelly of Cuba; three daughters, Catherine (Robert) Osickey of Gainesville, Fla., Ann (Jim) Newman of Dayton and Mary (Frank) Joseph of Green Cover Springs, Fla.; two sisters, Virginia Greisheimer of Xenia and Ada (Wilbur) McKay of New Burlington; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Atkins; and three sisters, Mary Greene, Clara Zurface and Leola Gray.

Services will be held 9 a.m. Saturday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Rudy Haag officiating, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Milford. Mary Davis Gardner
Died: Wednesday, July 09, 2003
Age: 84

Mary Davis Gardner, 84, of Blanchester, died Wednesday (July 9, 2003) at her home. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul O. Gardner of Blanchester. They were married Sept. 22, 1941, and were married for 62 years.

Mrs. Gardner was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Mars, Pa., daughter of the late Sturgis Davis and Margaret Wolfe. She graduated in 1940 from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus and was a registered nurse. She practiced nursing at Mercy Hospital, Jane Case Hospital in Delaware, Ohio, and Middletown City Hospital in Middletown. During World War II, she practiced nursing in Charleston, S.C. She and her husband moved to Blanchester on Jan. 8, 1947. She was a member of the Tuesday Club, Amicitia, Grace United Methodist Church and Martha’s Circle.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Diane Gardner of New York, N.Y., and David Gardner of New York, N.Y.; and a sister, Alice Burbank of Milford.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Mac Nicholson officiating, with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Columbus. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Clarence "Gene" Smith
Died: Tuesday, July 08, 2003

Clarence “Gene” Smith went home to Heaven Tuesday (July 8, 2003). He is survived by his wife, R. Sue Smith of Seminole, Fla. They were married for 28 years.

Mr. Smith worked at ITT A-C Pump Co. for 38 years. He graduated from Wilmington High School in 1954. He had attended Jefferson School, also. He moved to Seminole, Fla., in 1999 and attended the Seminole Christian Fellowship.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Clarence G. Smith of Wilmington; a son, Kevin E. Smith of Columbus; two daughters, Cindy Mesina of California and Belinda Pape of Deerpark; two sons, Greg Price of Milford and Jeff Price of Milford; two sisters, Anna Maxfield of Blanchester and Thelma Cooper of Blanchester; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Milford Assembly of God, 130 SR 131, Milford, with burial in the Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Milford Assembly of God.

Edward "Gene" Eugene Cameron
Died: Tuesday, July 08, 2003
Age: 85

Edward Eugene “Gene” Cameron, 85, of Hillsboro, died Tuesday (July 8, 2003) at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Mullenix Cameron. They were united in marriage July 8, 1947.

Mr. Cameron was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Marshall, son of the late Claude and Margaret Watts Cameron. He owned and operated Cameron International Harvester dealership in Seaman for several years. He was a member and elder of the Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church. He was very active in 4-H. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during World War II. He retired from the Air Force.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, John Cameron of Ram Rod Key, Fla., Jeff (Darrilyn) Cameron of Brentwood, Tenn., Joel (Marianne) Cameron of Gallatin, Tenn., Jim Cameron of Hillsboro; a daughter, Jane Cameron of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren, Camille (David) Uldricks, Lauren (Mike) Moore, Courtney Cameron, Allyson Cameron, Brittany Cameron, Savannah Cameron and Cayse Cameron; a great-grandson, Cameron Uldricks; a brother, Gerald Leroy (Mamie) Cameron of Anderson, Ind.; and two sisters, Helen Lucille (Floyd) Saul of Dublin and Charma Reno of Hillsboro.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Main St., Hillsboro, the Rev. Maurice Mitchell officiating, with burial in the Hillsboro Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Highland County honor guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro First Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Main St., Hillsboro, 45133. Arrangements are under the direction of HOPE MILLER-THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 241 E. Main St., Hillsboro.

Mary Francis Tharp Floyd
Died: Tuesday, July 08, 2003
Age: 86

Mary Francis Tharp Floyd, 86, of 175 Cape May Drive, Wilmington, died 8:10 a.m. Tuesday (July 8, 2003) at Bethesda North Hospital, Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maynard “Blackie” Floyd, who died June 5, 1990. They were married Dec. 4, 1937.

Mrs. Floyd was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Hillsboro, daughter of the late Clarence J. and Emma Purdin Tharp. She was a member of the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Hillsboro High School. Her husband was a well-known businessman and politician in Clinton County for over 40 years.

She is survived by two sons, Stanley (Cathy) Floyd of Sabina and Phillip (Linda) Floyd of Wilmington; two daughters, Lucy Ann (Lee) Brooks of Wilmington and Phyllis Kay (Bob) Storer of Wilmington; a brother, William Tharp of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Leslie Brooks Morris of Wilmington, Lyle Brooks of Wilmington, Stacie Stanton Brown of Wilmington, Andrew Floyd of Wilmington, Kelly Floyd Brown of Sabina, Steven Floyd of Sabina, Lyn Brooks Manos of Cincinnati and Matthew Floyd of Cincinnati; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Tharp; and three sisters, Helen Sliker, Violet Tracy and Margarett Williams.

Graveside services will be held noon Friday at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, Dr. Thomas Martin officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, P.O. Leonard P. Harperee
Died: Thursday, June 12, 2003
Age: 65

Leonard P. Harperee, 65, of Hillsboro, formerly of Sabina, died Thursday (June 12, 2003) at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He is survived by his former wife and good friend, Bonnie Wical.

Mr. Harperee was born Jan. 21, 1938, in Madison County, son of the late Harold and Frances Josephine Persinger Harperee. He was a member of the Farmers Road Community Church of God.

In addition to his former wife, he is survived by two children, Linda Campbell of Dayton and Tim (Anita Watson) Harperee of Hillsboro; two stepchildren, Randy (B.J.) Snow of Reesville and Lacy (Jeff) Jackson of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Wilson Fields; two brothers, Henry and Orlyn Harperee; and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, Eugene Fields officiating, with burial in Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
