Virginia "Gintz" K. Williams
Died: Tuesday, November 04, 2003

Virginia K. “Gintz” Williams, 80, of 12 Peterson Place, Wilmington, died 4:30 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 25, 2003) at Autumn Years Nursing Home, Sabina. She was preceded in death by her husband, John K. “Jack” Williams, M.D., who died in 1974.

Mrs. Williams was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Palma Gorda, Fla., daughter of the late Jack C. and Alma Yeager Waltmire.

She is survived by four sons, two daughters, 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held 2:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington, the Rev. Dean E. Feldmeyer officiating. Pallbearers were William Walker, John H. Williams, James M. Williams, Richard C. Williams, Robert K. Williams and Randell B. Quigley. Arrangements were under the direction of REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington.

Luther "Lou" Hanson
Died: Monday, November 03, 2003
Age: 77

Luther “Lou” Henson, 77, of Blanchester, died Monday (Nov. 3, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Faye Depew Henson.

Mr. Henson was born March 28, 1926, in Manchester, Ky., son of the late Harvey and Ara Foster Henson. He was a member of Edenton First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, the Rev. Ron Henson of Blanchester, John Henson of Blanchester, Sue Allen of Edenton, Barbara Tedrick of Xenia, Sharon Jones of Midland and Kim White of Blanchester; a sister, America Stidham of Manchester, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Woodrow Henson.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Edenton First Baptist Church, 6655 Edenton Pleasant Plain Road, Edenton, Pastor Greg Williams and Pastor Ron Henson officiating, with burial in Clinton Memory Gardens, Wilmington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Southern Ohio Chapter, Fourth and Race Tower, 105 W. Fourth St., Cincinnati, 45202; the American Cancer Society, 48 Randolph, P.O. Lloyd Lee Gray
Died: Monday, November 03, 2003
Age: 74

Lloyd Lee Gray, 74, of Midland, died Monday (Nov. 3, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Julia “Betty” Gray.

Mr. Gray was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Clinton County, son of the late Benjamin Clyde and Josephine Webster Gray. He attended Westboro United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David Lee Gray of Beavercreek; a sister, Hazel Laurens of Indianapolis, Ind.; a grandson, Nathan Lee (Casey) Gray of Midland; two great-grandchildren, Kiersten Gray and Shalee Gray; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Gray and Donnie Gray; and two sisters, Lena Bryan and Mary Curless.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Westboro United Methodist Church, 110 Jonesboro Road, Westboro, the Rev. Tony Hudson officiating, with burial in Jefferson Township Cemetery, Westboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester. Pastor Lewis Smith
Died: Sunday, November 02, 2003
Age: 59

Pastor Lewis Smith, 59, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Irma Smith.

Pastor Smith was born May 19, 1944, in Barbourville, Ky., son of the late James and Lula Smith. He was pastor of Midland Pentecostal Holiness Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, David (Lynn) Smith of Hillsboro, Sharon (Granville) Saylor of Hamilton, Joyce (Vincent) Lamb of Blanchester, James (Emma) Smith of Blanchester and Derry (Ginger) Smith of Blanchester; two brothers, Ramon Smith of Blanchester and General Smith of Hammersville; a sister, Nora Rogers of Morrow; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Billy “Whistle” Smith, and a grandchild.

Services will be held noon Wednesday at the Midland Pentecostal Holiness Church, 220 Mitchell St., Midland, Pastor Ed Sandlin and Bill Rose officiating, with burial in Jefferson Township Cemetery, Westboro. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. today until noon Wednesday at the church. The visitation is all night. Arrangements are under the direction of TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester.

Robert "Bob" Moore
Died: Sunday, November 02, 2003
Age: 42

Robert “Bob” Moore, 42, of Wilmington, died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Moore of Wilmington.

Mr. Moore was born Jan. 20, 1961, in Wilmington, son of the late Charles Edward and Marie Tuggle Moore. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of God.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Keith Moore of Wilmington; a special friend, Justin Heard of Wilmington; two brothers, Chuck Moore of Wilmington and Randy (Linda) Moore of Wilmington; a sister, Jeanie (Rick Schultz) Mongold of Wilmington; a special nephew, Matt Mongold; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, the Rev. Elizabeth J. Looney officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ann Myers Ward
Died: Sunday, November 02, 2003
Age: 68

Ann Myers Ward, 68, of Ottawa Hills, formerly of Wilmington and Presque Isle, Mich., died Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) in Toledo as a result of breast cancer. She is survived by her husband, David Ward, who was general counsel of Owens-Illinois Inc. during the 1980s. They were married Sept. 16, 1956, in Wilmington, her hometown.

Mrs. Ward and her husband met on a blind date while attending the Ohio State University. She graduated in 1958 from nursing school, and she and her husband moved to Toledo to raise their family. She was president of the Grand Lake Association for many years. She and her husband were foster parents to nine babies place by Lutheran Family Services while the babies were waiting to be adopted. She also was nurse to children in the neighborhood who came to her with minor illnesses or injuries. She was a leader of Girl Scout Troop 837 from 1966 to 1975 in Ottawa Hills. She served on the board of the Toledo Zoo for 10 years. She had numerous pets - cats, Scotties and labradors - and liked to feed hummingbirds. She was an extraordinary seamstress, knitter and maker of quilts, needlepoint pillows and Christmas stockings. Her hands were always busy and she made dozens of laundry bags and gave them with a roll of quarters to high school graduates as they went off to college. She also liked to read, travel and attend John Whalen’s Auctions in Neapolis, where she bought quilts, glassware and antiques for her collections. She loved the Ohio State Marching Band but could get along without football. She was a supporter of the college of veterinary medicine and the men’s glee club at The Ohio State University, the Clinton County Historical Society in Wilmington and several other charities. She was a kind and caring person, with close friends from coast to coast. She will be deeply missed by those friends and her family. She was devoted to her grandchildren and children and very proud of being a homemaker.

In addition to her husband, she was survived by four children, Jennifer of Tucson, Ariz., Jil (Tom) Strassman of Tomahawk, Wis., Jeff (Kathy) Ward of Columbus, and Andy (Jane) Ward of North Chester, Maine; her “adopted” daughter, Kate (John) Wordeman and their daughter, Ellie, of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, Cullen, Laura, Morgan, Sydney, Jeremy and Joe; a sister-in-law, Darlene Myers; two nieces and a nephew, Nancy Price, Betsy Holmer and Steve Myers, all of Wilmington; and an “adopted” sister, Goldie Kenyon.

In addition to her parents, Catherine and Neil Myers, D.V.M., she was preceded by a brother, Sidney Myers, D.V.M.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Epworth United Methodist Church, 3077 Valleyview Drive, Toledo, off Central Avenue across from Wildwood Park, with burial in The Presque Isle Township Cemetery in Michigan, sometime next summer. A memorial service will be held at the Grand Lake Community Chapel prior to the burial. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at FRETTI FUNERAL HOME, 5045 Sylvania Ave. at Corey Road, Toledo. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Gibbs Fund at the Toledo Hospital Foundation, 2142 N. Cove Blvd., Toledo, 43606-9984, or the Kauffman Homestead Fund at the Grand Lake Association, P.O. Box 99, Presque Isle, Mich. 49777. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the comforting services they provided to Mrs. Ward during the final weeks of her wonderful life.

Stanley Arthur Davis
Died: Sunday, November 02, 2003
Age: 86

Stanley Arthur Davis, 86, of 1870 Wayne Road, Wilmington, went to be with the Lord at 11:25 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 2, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Wyonola Avanelle Walls Davis. They were married Sept. 21, 1938, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Davis was born May 4, 1917, in Lynchburg, son of the late Rannie and Vada Marie Turner Davis. He had retired from General Electric of Evandale after working 25 years as a toolmaker. He was a member of the New Vienna Church of Christ. He graduated from Lynchburg High School. He was a beloved husband.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ronald (Marilyn) Davis of West Chester and Butch (Joan) Davis Wilmington; a daughter, Dolly Marie Davis (Bob) Black of Wilmington; nine grandchildren, Michael (Susan) Davis, Michele (Scott) Berkes, Beth (Rich) Lohmueller, Rick Davis, Robyn (Joe) Welling, Rhonda Black, Matt (Dusti) Black, Donnie (Susan) Davis and Allyson (Bart) Couch; nine great-grandchildren, Arianna Black, Andrew Lohmueller, Nicole Lohmueller, Stephanie Welling, Jennifer Welling, Emily Davis, Zachary Davis, Allen Couch and Stanley Alexander Couch; six stepgreat-grandchildren; special relatives and friends, Irene Davis, Raymond and Edna Walls, Brenda Davis and Hulitt Kirkhart; and many special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Davis and Wilbur Davis; and a sister, Louella Davis Mongold.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Sidney Clay officiating, with burial in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America, 386 Park Ave. South, 17th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10016-8804.

Kenneth "Ken" Michael Starkey
Died: Friday, October 31, 2003
Age: 46

Kenneth “Ken” Michael Starkey, 46, of Hillsboro, died Saturday (Nov. 8, 2003) at the Laurels of Hillsboro.

Mr. Starkey was born Oct. 20, 1957, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late George Francis and Maryirene K. Bennett Starkey. He was a member of the Marshall Church of Christ.

He is survived by a sister, Diane (Harold) Smalley of Hillsboro; three nephews, Bryan (Jennifer) Krannitz of Hillsboro, Airman John Michael Krannitz of Italy and Kevin (Brooke) Krannitz of Wilmington; a niece, Suzanne (Matthew) Runk of Sabina; a great-nephew, Jacob Krannitz; and two great-nieces, Lillian Krannitz and Josie Runk.

Memorial services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Marshall Church of Christ, Tom Stoops officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of the services Tuesday at the church. The TURNER AND SON FUNERAL HOME, Hillsboro, is serving the family.
