Beatrice Baber, 92, of Urbana, went home to be with the Lord at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 2, 2003) at Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold T. Baber.
Mrs. Baber was born Jan. 30, 1912, in New Vienna, son of the late Samuel and Louise Lewis Turner. She had been employed by Head Start as a cook. She was a member of the Bible Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmington.
She is survived by a son, Donald Baber of Dayton; a special granddaughter and grandson, Carol and Kirk Coach of Urbana, with whom she resided; two great-grandchildren, Jessie D. Coach and Lavonne T. Baber of Springfield; and two great-great-grandchildren, Alissa Baber and Lavonne T. Baber of Springfield.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother.
Services will be held 1 p.m. today at Bible Missionary Baptist Church, 243 Grant St., Wilmington, Minister Byron McGee presiding. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present from noon to 1 p.m. today. Arrangements are under the direction of PORTER-QUALLS FUNERAL HOMES, Springfield.
Janet R. Smith
Died: Thursday, October 30, 2003
Age: 71
Janet R. Smith, 71, of Wilmington, died 11:25 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003) at her residence. She is survived by her husband, Emmet E. Smith. They were married Nov. 20, 1949.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 9, 1932, in London, Ohio, daughter of the late Lawrence and Juanita Ripley Amlin. She graduated from Plattsburg High School. She was a member of Villars Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Steven E. (Kelle) Smith of Xenia; two sisters, Ruth Flemming of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Marjorie Reeves of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held noon Monday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Clinton County, 61 E. Main St., Wilmington, 45177.
Robert Rolfe
Died: Thursday, October 30, 2003
Age: 90
Robert Rolfe, 90, of Washington Court House, died Thursday (Oct. 30, 2003) at Auburn Manor. He is survived by his second wife, Nina Smith Davis Rolfe. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma Graves Rolfe, who died May 17, 1987.
Mr. Rolfe was born June 14, 1913, in Clinton County, son of the late John R. and Bess Ann Stottler Rolfe. He was a retired farmer and car hauler. He was a member of the former Gregg Street Church in Washington Court House, where he was a greeter. He was a private pilot. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated in 1932 from Wayne Township High School.
In addition to his second wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jeanette (Jerry) Sexton of Good Hope; two sons, Michael W. Davis of Frankfort and Dick (Juanita) Davis of Washington Court House; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and a brother, Richard (Jo) Rolfe of Sabina.
In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas and Omar Rolfe; and four sisters, Marjorie Tucker, Margaret McClary, Alice Woods and Helen Jane Kantner.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Helen Jane Kantner, 85, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (Oct. 29, 2003) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. She is survived by her second husband, Edward Kantner. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Summers.
Mrs. Kantner was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Clinton County, daughter of the late John and Bessie Stotlier Rolfe. She had retired from the AAA office in Wilmington. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wilmington. She graduated from Wayne Township High School.
In addition to her second husband, she is survived by two sons, Marvin Summers of Wilmington and Max (Sharon) Summers of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris (Danon) Summers of Lebanon, Shelly (Craig) Rouse of Hunterville, N.C., Mark Summers of Charlotte, N.C., and Keith (D’Andra) Summers of Texas; five great-grandchildren, Catherine, Caroline, Jack, Kaitlyn and Austin; a brother, Richard (Jo) Rolfe of Sabina; two former daughters-in-law, Nora Brown of Martinsville and Myrna Summers of Cincinnati.
In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas, Robert and Omar Rolfe; and three sisters, Marjorie Tucker, Margaret McClary and Alice Woods.

Phyrne A. Jones Coil

Age: 92
Phyrne A. Jones Coil, 92, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Wilmington, died Wednesday (Oct. 29, 2003) in Charlotte, N.C. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar F. Jones, who died in 1966, and her second husband, Gilbert Coil, who died in 1981.
Mrs. Coil was born Dec. 15, 1910, in Chillicothe, daughter of the late John R. and Mary Francis Lutz Albright. She was a dietitian for the Wilmington and Miami Trace school systems. She was a member and past regent of the D.A.R., member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Kensington Club and the English Club. She was a volunteer for several years at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington. she was a member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Edwin A. (Norma) Jones of Springboro; a daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Weis of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Michele Jones, Teresa Jones Beimly, Drew Cotterman, Bruce Cotterman, Jeff Weis and Mark Weis; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, second husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jonda Cotterman, and a sister, Dorothy Michel.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, with burial in New Antioch Cemetery. Helen Jane Kantner

Bruce Allen Clay
Died: Thursday, October 23, 2003
Age: 30
Bruce Allen Clay, 30, died Thursday (Oct. 23, 2003) as result of an automobile accident.
Mr. Clay was born March 27, 1973, in Wilmington, son of Robert L. and Vicki Gall Clay. He enjoyed playing pool, competing in many statewide tournaments, and softball. He had previously been employed by Airborne Express and American Tool in Wilmington and was a member of Sons of American Legion Post 568 in Leesburg.
He is survived by his father, Robert L. (Rebecca) Clay of Leesburg; his mother, Vicki Orebaugh of Dayton; a son, Bradley Clay of Wilmington; a sister, Mindy (James) Slater of Greenfield; two brothers, Casey Clay of Cincinnati and Shane (Tedrick) Clay of Cincinnati; two nephews, Daniel and James Slater of Greenfield; his former wife, Augusta Clay of Wilmington; a stepdaughter, Hannah Oppy of Wilmington; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lowen and Isabel Gall; and paternal grandparents, Leonard and Mary Clay.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the TURNER AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 602 N. High St., Hillsboro, Pastor Keith Stagge officiating, with burial in the White Oak Grove Cemetery in Buena Vista. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Arthur L. Suttles
Died: Thursday, October 23, 2003
Age: 76
Arthur L. Suttles, 76, of Blanchester, died Thursday (Oct. 23, 2003) at his residence. His wife, Betty Faye Suttles, survives.
Mr. Suttles was born May 3, 1927, in Blanchester, son of the late Bernard and Mable Shilts Suttles. He was retired from the B&O Railroad.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Raymond (Vicki) Suttles, Dale Suttles and Nancy Suttles; three brothers, Bobby Suttles, Charlie Suttles and Lonnie Suttles; three grandchildren, Krystina Adams, Jodi Reed and Zackary Suttles; and three great-grandchildren, Tyler Reed, Allison Adams and Zackary Suttles.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen Ruescher, Ruth Carter and Shirley Suttles.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, Pastor Dan Bryant officiating, with interment in Graceland Memorial Gardens, Milford. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the services Monday at the funeral home.
