Delia G. Shirk, 91, of 711 Dayton-Xenia Road, Xenia, formerly of Wilmington, died 4:38 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 22, 2003) at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home. Her husband, the Rev. Thomas L. Shirk, died Nov. 3, 1996.
Mrs. Shirk was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Ellen, Ala., daughter of the late Thomas and Dovie George. She was an elementary school teacher for 37 years at Kingman, Harveysburg and Wilmington schools. A graduate of Wilmington College, she was a member of the Springfield Friends Meeting and the New Vienna Order of Eastern Star 327.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Martha) Shirk of San Leandro, Calif. and David (Joann) Shirk of Xenia; a brother, Kenneth (Madonna) George of Cambridge, Md.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey George and Albert George; and three sisters, Ceridwin Kelly, Irene Sword and Christine George.
A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Springfield Friends Cemetery, Todds Fork Road, Wilmington. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington.
Lisa Ann Bowman
Died: Tuesday, October 21, 2003
Age: 39
Lisa Ann Bowman, 39, of Sabina, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2003) in Fayette County.
Miss Bowman was born Dec. 12, 1963, in Lakin, Kan., daughter of Leona Mae Pettit Bowman Curtis of Washington Court House and the late Roy Leon Bowman, who died in 1991. She was a 1982 graduate of East Clinton High School and attended Carousel Beauty College in Dayton. She was a hair stylist with Beauty Express in Jeffersonville.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Paul Curtis of Washington Court House; a daughter, Bailey Ann Bowman of Sabina; a son, Preston Leon Bowman of Sabina; a sister, Lois Lynn Williams of Frankford, Del.; and a grandmother, Mary Pettit of Washington Court House.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until time of the services Saturday at the funeral home. John L. Nordyke

Age: 65
John L. Nordyke, 65, of Wilmington, died 6:45 p.m. Thursday (May 15, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Sondra Clark Nordyke. They were married May 6, 1961.
Mr. Nordyke was born Feb. 11, 1938, in Clinton County, son of the late Homer and Helen Rhoades Nordyke. He retired this year from American Tool after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ. He graduated in 1956 from Wilmington High School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Alan Nordyke of West Chester; a daughter, Susan (Donnie) Davis of Wilmington; a brother, Dale (Lynn) Nordyke of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Emily Davis and Zachary Davis.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Keith Dimbath officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday

John Elton King

Age: 87
John Elton King, 87, of Lynchburg, died Thursday (May 15, 2003) at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma E. Hottinger King, who died April 28, 1990.
Mr. King was born Dec. 25, 1915, near Lynchburg, son of the late Byron and Lizzie Mae Pence King. He was a retired truck driver.
He is survived by four daughters, Sara (Gordon) Merritt of Fayetteville, Mary (Ted) Jones of Allensburg, Shirley (John) Lewis of Lynchburg and Koni (David) Griffith of Lynchburg; a son, Dr. James (Karen) King of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Don (Mary) King of Hillsboro; a sister, Mary Louise Long of Hillsboro; 14 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Davis, and a great-great-grandson, Blake Lewis.
Services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the TURNER & SON FUNERAL HOME, 602 N. High St., Hillsboro, Bob Stevens officiating, with burial in Strange Cemetery near Fairview. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Edmund Dean Roberts

Age: 67
Edmund Dean Roberts, 67, of Greenfield, died 9:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 14, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Nicol Roberts. They were married March 21, 1998.
Mr. Roberts was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Highland County, son of the late Edmund and Edith Cheek Roberts. He was owner/operator of Dean's Building and Remodeling in Greenfield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sons, Marvin Roberts of South Lebanon, Eddie (Penny) Roberts of New Martinsville, Jim (Becky) Roberts of Hamilton, Donald (Karen) Roberts of Dayton, Chester (Kim) Cook of Greenfield and Gregory "Doc" Stultz of Bainbridge; three daughters, Lennie (Tom) Fillmore of Greenfield, Penny (Jerry) Campbell of Wilmington and Dena Morgan of Wilmington; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers, Melvin (Erma) Roberts of Naples, Fla., David (Jane) Roberts of Highland, Jim (Becky) Roberts of Frankfort and Gary (Gloria) Roberts of Frankfort; three sisters, Maxine Winland of Greenfield, Shirley (Ed) Montavon of Sabina and Helen Meredith of Leesburg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Roberts.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at the MURRAY-FETTRO FUNERAL HOME, 380 Jefferson St., Greenfield, Pastor John Sodini officiating, with burial in Greenfield Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. Joan Ann Wilson Burkhart

Age: 60
Joan Ann Wilson Burkhart, 60, of Wilmington, died Tuesday (May 13, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington. She is survived by her husband, William T. Burkhart of Wilmington. They were married for 37 years.
Mrs. Burkhart was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Cincinnati, daughter of Vernon A. Wilson of Blanchester and the late Mary Louise Balton.
In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by a daughter, Davidde (James) Burkhart Mazzola of Austin, Texas; three brothers, Michael (Martha) Wilson of Hillsboro, Gregory (Kay) Wilson of Lynchburg and Randy (Barb) Wilson of Blanchester; and a sister, Debbie (Curt) Marshall of Xenia.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Karen Wilson Doodan.

Forrest "Frosty" M. Sheeley

Age: 84
Forrest M. "Frosty" Sheeley, 84, of Sabina, died Monday (May 12, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Martha J. Gibson Sheeley. They were married Sept. 22, 1979.
Mr. Sheeley was born July 18, 1918, in Fayette County, son of the late Alva D. and Mary Lynch Sheeley. He retired from Mac Tool Co. and Southern State Community College. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Danny Sheeley of Wilmington; a daughter, Linda Sheeley of Sabina; three stepchildren, Larry Wical of Wilmington, Frances Hoppes of Washington Court House and Herman (Theresa) Duffield of Cuba; a sister, Mary Evelyn (Carl) Hart of Springfield; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Jackie Sheeley of High Point, N.C., Betty Davis of Sabina and Lora Hughes of Houston, Ohio; and a nephew, Ronnie Sheeley of High Point, N.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Sheeley, and a son, Don Sheeley.

Naomi J. VanTress
Died: Sunday, May 11, 2003
Age: 83
Naomi J. VanTress, 83, of Xenia, died Sunday morning (May 11, 2003) at Greene Memorial Hospital, Xenia. Her husband, C. Robert VanTress, died May 19, 1997.
Mrs. VanTress was born Feb. 9, 1920, in Clinton County, daughter of Lloyd and Cleo Beam DeVoe. She was a member of the Union United Methodist Church for 62 years and was honored by the Women's Society for 50 years of membership. She was a member and past president of the Greene Valley Chapter of American Business Women. She retired in 1988 after 27 years as secretary for the Greene County Extension office, much of that time spent in the 4-H program. After graduating from Silvercreek High School in 1937, she was a secretary for Homer Henrie and later with the law firm of Smith, McCallister and Gibney. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Cedarville for 49 years and the Greene Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for 12 years, where she held all offices. The core of all of her organizational involvements was helping others.
She is survived by five children, Nancy (Ronnie) Johannes, Rita (Mike) Derr, Linda VanTress, and Dennis (Kathy) VanTress, all of Xenia, and Gene (Penny) VanTress of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Margene Bullen Bradds of Xenia; a sister-in-law, Ruth DeVoe of Reynoldsburg; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie VanTress; two sons, Kenny VanTress and Mark VanTress; and two brothers, Daniel DeVoe and Donald DeVoe.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the NEELD FUNERAL HOME, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, the Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating, with burial in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rebekah Lodge services at 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union United Methodist Church or the 4-H Foundation.
