Marie L. Wills Lacy
Died: Saturday, May 10, 2003
Age: 78
Marie L. Wills Lacy, 78, of Wilmington, died 10:39 a.m. Saturday (May 10, 2003) at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy W. "Red" Lacy, who died June 15, 1994. They were married Feb. 15, 1947.
Mrs. Lacy was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Holiday, Ill., daughter of the late Joe J. and Lillian L. Buzzard Wills. After attending the Aircraft Training Institute in 1943, she worked as an aircraft mechanic during World War II. Throughout her life, she worked as a farm wife, bus driver for the Clinton-Massie school system, election poll worker for the Clinton County Board of Elections and at Camp Joy. She graduated in 1942 from Beecher City High School in Beecher City, Ill. Her kind and generous spirit were well known in the local community, as she often provided companionship and home-cooked food to elderly or infirm neighbors. Her loss will be most keenly felt by her family.
She is survived by a son, David L. Lacy of Wilmington; two daughters, Janet (Arlo) Tate of Marysville and Billie Jo (William) Stockum of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a brother, Kirk (Darlene) Wills of Beecher City, Ill.; three sisters-in-law, Martha Wills of Carbondale, Ill., Donna Wills of Beecher City, Ill., and Helen Garrison of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Jane Wills of Beecher City, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Bob Lacy of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Josh (Judy) Shelton, Jamie Tate and Jana Stockum; a great-grandchild, Jesse Shelton; and a close cousin, Mike (Bonnie) Buzzard.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Wills and Billy Wills, and a sister, Charlotte Wills.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Friday at the American Legion Post 49, 140 E. Locust St., Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 5378 A Cox-Smith Road, Mason, 45040, or Your Father's Kitchen, 78 W. Sugartree St., Wilmington, 45177. Elsie L. Smith
Died: Saturday, May 10, 2003
Age: 89
Elsie L. Smith, 89, of Greenfield, died 3:12 a.m. Saturday (May 10, 2003) at Autumn Years Nursing Center, Sabina. Her first husband, Rufus Penwell, died Oct. 3, 1936. Her second husband, Edward "Ted" Smith, died June 12, 1982.
Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 28, 1913, in Ross County, daughter of the late David and Mina Shoemaker Grogg. She was retired from Ferno-Washington.
She is survived by two daughters, Alice Jo Wilt of Sabina and Mary Lou (Donald) Malott of Greenfield; nine grandchildren, Donna (John) Rolston, Linda (Andy) Freeman, Jeffrey Wilt, Luci (Neal) Flint, Wendi (Rob) Dean, Teri Rhoads, Tim (Denise) Malott, Tonda (Paul) Patterson and Ronnie Penwell; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband, second husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Fred T. Penwell; two sisters, Reba Penwell and Eva McMullen; a brother, Stanley Grogg; and a son-in-law, Orlyn Wilt.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at ANDERSON-STRUEVE FUNERAL HOME, 306 S. Washington St., Greenfield, the Rev. Dennis Brewer officiating, with burial in White Oak Grove Cemetery, Buena Vista. Minnie B. Mullins

Age: 88
Minnie B. Mullins, 88, of Blanchester, died Thursday (May 8, 2003) at Blanchester Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Mullins, who died in 1995.
Mrs. Mullins was born June 17, 1914, in Hubbard Springs, Va., daughter of the late William Burgan and Sally Hall.
She is survived by two children, Alvie D. (Shirley) Mullins of Blanchester and Larry Mullins of Blanchester; a sister, Bernice Sicker of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Jody Mullins and Dwight Mullins; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Services will be held 11 a.m. today at the TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Reggie Wallace officiating, with burial in the Blanchester I.O.O.F. Ruby Ellen Flint

Age: 88
Ruby Ellen Flint, 88, of Wilmington, died Tuesday (May 27, 2003) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Leroy Flint, who died in 1995.
Mrs. Flint was born Feb. 13, 1915, in Jamestown, daughter of the late Jesse H. Beatty and Clara P. Davis Beatty. She was a member of the Bowersville Church of Christ.
She is survived by three daughters, Virginia (Howard) Shiveley, Norma (Paul) Hagedorn and Helen Dawson, all of Wilmington; a son, Thomas (Patsy) Flint of Wilmington; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a grandchild; a great-grandchild; four sisters, Regina Wilson, Edith Beatty, Ines Hill and Clara Millard; and three brothers, Loren Beatty, Jesse Beatty and Earl Beatty.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Jeff Johnson officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Judy Flint
Died: Thursday, May 22, 2003
Age: 62
Judy Flint, 62, of 541 Oakridge Drive, Wilmington, went to be with the Lord at 6:17 p.m. Thursday (May 22, 2003) at the University Hospital of Cincinnati. She is survived by her husband, Jim Flint. They were married May 29, 1959.
Mrs. Flint was born Sept. 20, 1940, in Cincinnati, daughter of Grace Larrick Brown of Blanchester. She was raised by the late Clarence and Lena Myers. She recently retired from Liberty Center in Wilmington. She graduated in 1958 from Wilmington High School. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wilmington. She dearly loved her church and her dog, Millie.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Tim (Margo) Flint of Clarksville; a daughter, Bev (Jerry) Denehy of Wilmington; two brothers, Kenneth (Linda) Larrick of Blanchester and Elmer (Norma) Myers of Tuscon, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Dawn (Craig) Fouch, Lee Flint, Kyle Denehy and Jake Denehy; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to Clarence and Lena Myers, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Myers, Harry Myers and Donald Myers; and two sisters, Geneva McCoy and Juanita Shockley.
Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Wilmington, 79 E. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Harv Stricklin officiating, with burial in Centerville Cemetery in Lees Creek. Guy I. Pennington
Died: Thursday, May 22, 2003
Age: 87
Guy I. Pennington, 87, of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord at 1:45 a.m. Thursday (May 22, 2003) at the V.A. Medical Center, Dayton. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Pennington. They were married Aug. 14, 1942.
Mr. Pennington was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Sandy Hook, Ky., son of the late Harve and Jennie Pennington. He was a farmer in Chester Township in Clinton county. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49, Clinton County Farm Bureau and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He attended the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wilmington.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Carol (Bob) Warner of Dayton and Judy (Steve) Brandenburg of Westerville; a brother, Code (Evelyn) Pennington of Wilmington; two sisters, Faye Gephart of Circleville and Lillian (Cliff) Horn of Vandalia; two grandchildren, Craig Brandenburg of Houston, Texas, and Lesley Brandenburg of Westerville; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Burl Pennington, Vaughn Pennington and Ardith Pennington; and a sister, Mozelle Fraley.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Pastor Steve Knell officiating, with burial in Clinton Memory Gardens, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 49 memorial squad. Junita L. Gibson
Died: Wednesday, May 21, 2003
Age: 80
Junita L. Gibson, 80, of Westboro, died Wednesday (May 21, 2003) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Gibson of Westboro. They were married for 62 years.
Mrs. Gibson was born July 9, 1922, in Seaman, daughter of the late Leslie W. Gammell and Hazel E. Kerr. She was a member of the Westboro United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Keith (Carlene) Gibson of Westboro and Gene (Melody) Gibson of Westboro; a brother, Russell Gammell of Martinsville; a sister, Verena Mongold of New Vienna; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Westboro United Methodist Church, the Rev. Tony Hudson officiating, with burial in the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Martinsville. John Myers Schaeffer
Died: Monday, May 19, 2003
Age: 56
John Myers Schaeffer, 56, of Waynesville, died 10:50 p.m. Monday (May 19, 2003) at Quaker Heights Nursing Home.
Mr. Schaeffer was born March 26, 1947, in Wilmington, son of the late Herman E. and Anna Elizabeth Myers Schaeffer. He retired in 1991 as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force, after serving 25 years. During his Air Force career, he served two tours in Vietnam, as well as assignments in Texas, New York, Louisiana, Hawaii and California. He also served 10 years overseas. He graduated in 1965 from Wilmington High School.
He is survived by a brother, Herman E. (Joyce) Schaeffer Jr. of Midland; two sisters, Judy A. (John) Frazier of Wilmington and Penney E. (David) Thompson of Clarksville; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 49 memorial squad.
