Dollie Richards Snider
Died: Tuesday, February 04, 2003
Age: 88

Dollie Richards Snider, 88, of 236 Curtis Drive, Wilmington, died 4 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 4, 2003) at Clinton Memorial Hospital, Wilmington. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lewis, who died in 1942; and her second husband, Rolland "Ronnie" Snider, who died in 1993. She married her second husband in May 1979.

Mrs. Snider was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Jackson, daughter of the late William C. and Zelma Stevens Richards. She graduated in 1932 from Jackson High School. She attended Ohio University and graduated from Rio Grande. She started teaching in 1935 in Jackson County at Kinnison Elementary. She retired on May 24, 1974. She taught fourth grade in the same room and same school building for 39 years. She was a member of the Wilmington Senior Citizens and Wilmington United Methodist Church. She was an active bridge player.

She is survived by a stepdaughter, Penny (Richard "Pat") Tripp of Bowie, Texas, and a grandchild, Tad Tripp of Bowie, Texas.

In addition to her first husband, her second husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Snider.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, the Rev. Dean Feldmeyer officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Wilmington. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred C. Uhrig
Died: Monday, February 03, 2003
Age: 90

Mildred C. Uhrig, 90, of Hillsboro, died Monday (Feb. 3, 2003) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Uhrig, who died Sept. 17, 1996.

Mrs. Uhrig was born Jan. 14, 1913, in Highland County, daughter of the late Jesse G. and Besse Cameron Patton. She was a member of the Marshall United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Robert) Schroeder of Hillsboro; a sister, Pauline Wilson of Hillsboro; a sister-in-law, Eileen Patton of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Debbie (Rex) Dell of Wilmington and Rob (Monica) Schroeder of Cincinnati; and four great-grandchildren, Jansen, Stephanie and Garrett Dell and Kasey Schroeder.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank (Bud) Patton; and two sisters, Helen Grover and Lelia (Tommi) Adams.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the HOPE MILLER-THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 241 E. Main St., Hillsboro, the Rev. Janie Shoemaker officiating, with burial in Resthaven Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Lowell David Martin
Died: Sunday, February 02, 2003
Age: 59

The Rev. Lowell David Martin, 59, of Dresden, died 6:30 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 2, 2003) at his home in Dresden. He is survived by his wife, Janet Herbert Martin. They were married June 20, 1964, and were married for 38 years.

The Rev. Martin was born Aug. 20, 1943, to Bertha L. Martin of Oak Hill and the late Clarence H. Martin. He graduated in 1961 from Oak Hill High School and received a bachelor of science degree in industrial management in 1967 from The Ohio State University. He was employed by the Timken Company from 1967 to 1989. In 1989, he felt the call to enter the pastoral ministry. He attended the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, while serving the Martinsville and Westboro United Methodist churches. In 1992, he received a master's degree in theology. He also served the Zion United Methodist Church in Whitehouse and most recently, the Dresden United Methodist Church. Church and family were his life; Heaven is now his home.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Sheryl (Bret) Herren of Centerburg and Susan Hayes of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Joe, Brittany and Zachariah Herren and Jennifer and Jessica Hayes; and three sisters, Joyce (Sheridan) Hughes of Marion, Barbara (Denver) Nelson of Greenup, Ky., and Janet (Phillip) Rowell of Kaneohe, Hawaii.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Martin.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Dresden United Methodist Church, the Rev. Sue Ellen Miller, Newark District superintendent, officiating, with burial in the Dresden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dresden United Methodist Church or Genesis Hospice and envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the VENSIL-ORR & CHUTE FUNERAL HOME, Dresden.

Joseph William Kearns
Died: Sunday, February 02, 2003
Age: 23

Joseph William Kearns, 23, of Wilmington, died Sunday (Feb. 2, 2003).

Mr. Kearns was born Aug. 22, 1979, in Clinton County, son of Brenda Kay Kearns of Wilmington and James Houston of Lynchburg. He was an employee at Kroger. He graduated in 1997 from Wilmington High School. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of God.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two half brothers, Mike and Russell Houston, both of Lynchburg.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wilmington Church of God, with burial in the New Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina.

Annetta "Pauline" Cobb-Rice
Died: Sunday, February 02, 2003

Annetta "Pauline" Cobb-Rice, a long-time resident of Durango, Colo., died Jan. 2, 2003, in Tucson, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Elvin T. Cobb, and her second husband, Hayden Rice. She married Mr. Cobb in 1941 and Mr. Rice in 1995.

Mrs. Cobb-Rice was born in Clinton County, daughter of Fred and Christella Fisher Carver. She moved to Durango, Colo., when she married Mr. Cobb. After working as a case worker for seven years, she became the director of the La Plata County Welfare Department in 1957. She retired from the department in 1973. She volunteered much of her time to the community and her church. She was a member of the Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, greeted and helped with social functions. She also was active in Eastern Star, AARP, the La Plata Council Agency on the Aging and the 55 Plus Center. She became a snowbird to Phoenix in the late 1980s after Mr. Cobb died. She moved to Phoenix in 1993. In 2000, she moved to Tucson to be close to her son. She was always eager to help family, friends and neighbors. She lovingly helped to raise three generations of Cobb children. Her family will miss her very much.

She is survived by a son, John (Rayvonne) Cobb; three granddaughters, Lisa Cobb O'Donnell, Christine Cobb Bryant and Jana Cobb; and two great-grandchildren, Jake Bryant and Cassie O'Donnell.

In addition to her first husband, her second husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Herman Carver.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 15 in Durango, Colo. The family hopes to hold the service at the Methodist Church, but they have not received a confirmation. Interment will be in Greenmont Cemetery, Durango, Colo.

Dean C. Friedly
Died: Saturday, February 01, 2003
Age: 93

Dean C. Friedly, 93, of 694 Harding Road, Marion, died 7:40 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 1, 2003) at Marion General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Coffman, who died Dec. 25, 1968. They were married in 1932 in Dayton. He is survived by his second wife, Lois Austin Feistkorn. They were married Feb. 14, 1970, in Marion.

Mr. Friedly was born May 30, 1909, in Dunkirk, the only child of Ohlen and Grace Curran Friedly. He graduated from high school as valedictorian and continued his education at Ohio Wesleyan University, where he received a bachelor's degree. He received a master's degree in education from The Ohio State University. At Ohio Wesleyan, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa and several other honorary fraternities. In college, he won a championship handball award. He taught mathematics at Willis High School in Delaware, Ohio, as well as coached basketball, tennis and golf. During World War II, he taught mathematics under the V-12 program at Ohio Wesleyan University. After leaving the teaching profession, he moved to Dayton, where he was a sales representative and vice president of Edgemont Machine Company. He belonged to the Dayton Engineers Club and Kettering Christ United Methodist Church, where he served on the administrative board and was president of the men's club. He resided in Dayton for 29 years. After retiring, he resided in Wilmington for eight years. He belonged to the Snow Hill Country Club and was president of the Snow Hill Investment Club. He also belonged to the United Methodist Church, where he again served on the administrative board and was president of the men's club. He moved to Marion 19 years ago, and he joined the Noon Lion's Club and the Epworth United Methodist Church. The Friedlys organized the Prospectors Club at the church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by many cousins.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dunkirk Cemetery in Dunkirk. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the BOYD FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Columbia St. Marion, 43302.

Richard Eugene Green
Died: Tuesday, March 18, 2003
Age: 70

Richard Eugene Green, 70, of Cuba, went home to be with the Lord at 12:46 p.m. Tuesday (March 18, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Joan Moots Green. They were married Sept. 24, 1955.

Mr. Green was born March 20, 1932, in Clarksville, son of the late Henry Espy and Mayme Jane Smith Green. He retired from the city of Wilmington Water Department, where he had been employed for 30 years. He was employed at the onset of his illness by Wackenhut Security at 3PF.Com. He had been president of the Martinsville Alumni Association and was a past member of the Wilmington Athletic Boosters Association. He was coordinator in 1974 of the Wilmington Homecoming Parade and was the first 4-H leader for boys weightlifting, which began with the 1974-75 year. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of Christ, where he served as an usher and greeter. He was a member of the church choir for the past 30 years and was a member of the Singing Christmas Tree. He graduated in 1951 from Martinsville High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He spent his spare time weightlifting and enjoying listening to and singing gospel music. He was featured at many of his school alumni meetings and family reunions. He was truly loved and will be sadly missed by all those fortunate enough to have known him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Vicki Ellen (Randy) Clonch of Lynchburg, Melinda Ann (Bruce) Schellinkhout of Grants Pass, Ore., and Christine Jane (Mark) Rhoads of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Tony Naylor, Brad Clonch, Kasandra Carpenter, Kyle Green and Meghan Thomas; five stepgrandchildren, Heidi Rhoads (Terry) McClure, Dusti Rhoads, Seth Schellinkhout, Jordan Schellinkhout and Ian Schellinkhout; a stepgreat-grandchild, Makenzie McClure; two brothers, Parker Ellsworth of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Robert Earl of Greenfield; an aunt, Marie (Smith) Shaw of Wilmington; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, George Edgar, who lost his life in World War II, Henry Espy Jr. and Leroy Ellwood; and a granddaughter, Angelica.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Wilmington Church of Christ, 909 W. Locust St., Wilmington, with burial in the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery, with military honors accorded. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, 45420, or the American Cancer Society, 5378-A Cox-Smith Road, Mason, 45040. Arrangements are under the direction of FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington.

Rosemary McCollum
Died: Monday, March 17, 2003
Age: 71

Rosemary McCollum, 71, of Midland, went to be with Jesus Monday (March 17, 2003) at Blanchester Care Center, with her family at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jim McCollum. They were married March 3, 1951.

Mrs. McCollum was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Milford, daughter of the late Joe and Maude Smith Wilson. She was a 21-year employee of Consolidated Ceramics Products, and she retired in 1993. She leaves behind many friends. She was a loving and devout mother, and her grandchildren lovingly knew her as Nanny. She loved and touched deeply her family and friends.

She is survived by five daughters, Karen Stein of Blanchester, Eileen (Steven) Tedrick of Blanchester, Kathleen (Dave) Metz of Bradenton, Fla., Marlene (Rodger) Wilson of Martinsville and Sandra (Matt Rannells) Gregory of Midland; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, including twin baby boys; and her extended family of friends and relatives.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Terrance Lee McCollum; a grandson, Rogie Wilson; and her "other mother," Louise McCollum, her mother-in-law.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, Keith Gibson and the Rev. Tony Hudson officiating, with burial in Jefferson Township Cemetery, Westboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
