Myrtle Elizabeth Cartwright Fryer

Myrtle Elizabeth Cartwright Fryer, 85, of Greenfield, died 5:25 a.m. Friday (Jan. 24, 2003) at Edgewood Manor, Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Fryer, who died April 26, 1998.
Mrs. Fryer was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Sabina, daughter of Harley and Elizabeth McKinney Cartwright. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ faith.
She is survived by two sons, Wendell Jr. (Nancy) Fryer of Huron and James R. (Christina) Fryer of Washington Court House; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Harold (Donna) Cartwright of Athens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Harley and Ray Cartwright, and two sisters, Marie Corwin and Mabel Cartwright.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at MURRAY-FETTRO FUNERAL HOME, 380 Jefferson St., Greenfield, the Rev. Robert K. Blaine officiating, with burial in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
John David Conklin

Age: 33
John David Conklin, 33, of Newark, formerly of Wilmington, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Conklin was born March 5, 1969, in Wilmington, son of Doris Hamilton Willacker of Jacksonville, Fla., and the late Charles Conklin. He also is survived by his stepfather, Bob Willacker of Jacksonville, Fla. He had studied to be a Greek Orthodox monk.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by two brothers, Nolan (Joyce) Wright Jr. of Cuba and Kenneth (Kathy) Wright Sr. of Blanchester; four sisters, Joyce Ann (Jim) Morrison of Jacksonville, Fla., Theresa (Steve Johnson) Wright of Lynchburg, Brenda (Larry) Morrison of Orange Park, Fla., and Crystal (Lee English) Taylor of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Larry Barker officiating, with burial in Jefferson Township Cemetery, Westboro. Robert "Bobby" M. Ringer
Died: Thursday, January 23, 2003
Age: 51
Robert M. "Bobby" Ringer, 51, of New Burlington, died Thursday afternoon (Jan. 23, 2003).
Mr. Ringer was born Nov. 3, 1951, in Xenia, son of Robert and Mary Roberts Ringer of Jamestown. He had retired from the Clinton County garage of the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Jamestown Church of Christ, Spring Valley Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite of Dayton. He graduated from the Greeneview High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Nancy (Roger) Lovett of Jeffersonville; three nephews, Roger (Stacy) Lovett of Washington Court House, Mark (Tami) Lovett of Delaware and Tim Lovett of Jeffersonville; three great-nephews; and a great-niece.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at the POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Limestone St., Jamestown, with burial in the Silvercreek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Age: 91
Marie T. Smith, 91, of Bowersville, died Thursday (Sept. 25, 2003) at Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Smith.
Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 1, 1912, in Greene County, daughter of the late Henson and Ethel Evans Talbott. She was a member of the Bowersville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Vera Mae (Charlie) Richardson of Bowersville; a grandson, Alan (Carol) Richardson of Bowersville; two great-grandchildren, Shannon (Matt) Hafertepen, who is serving in the U.S. Army, and Justin (Stephanie) Richardson of Wilmington; a great-great-grandson, Chase Alan Richardson; a sister, Donna Johnson of Jamestown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Neil; and a sister, Eloise.
Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at the POWERS FUNERAL HOME, 12 N. Limestone St., Jamestown, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville. Ellen Shaffer Wertz

Age: 87
Ellen Shaffer Wertz, 87, of Prairie View Apartments, Wilmington, died Thursday (Sept. 25, 2003) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Shaffer, who died in 1974, and her second husband, Lloyd Wertz, who died in 1998.
Mrs. Wertz was born May 3, 1916, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Charles Leroy and Iva Stone Swisshelm. She had worked at Litt Brothers Department Store and various other businesses in the downtown Wilmington area. She was a member of the Wilmington Friends Meeting, Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem, Hebron Rebekah Lodge, Daughters of America and the Retread Club. She had been a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital for several years.
She is survived by four cousins, Sena and Leonard Redmond of Wilmington, Kathryn Moore of Wilmington and Regina Swisshelm of Wilmington; a special granddaughter, Rachel (Homer) Mathews of Wilmington; and many, many friends.
In addition to her first husband, second husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Perkins.
Graveside services will be held Monday at Sugar Grove Cemetery following visitation, Pastor Donald K. Mertz officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington. Donna "Pat" Patricia Holbrook

Donna Patricia “Pat” Holbrook, 66, of Clarksville, died Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003) at her home. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lovel Kenneth Holbrook. She is survived by her second husband, Jesse Holbrook of Clarksville.
Mrs. Holbrook was born Dec. 27, 1936, in Cincinnati, daughter of the late Roy Dale Toler and Thelma Grove. She loved to play bingo.
In addition to her second husband, she is survived by four children, Ricky Lee (Brenda) Gibson of Paint Lick, Ky., Danny (Pam) Gibson of Paint Lick, Ky., Patricia (Dwight) Keever of Clarksville and Steve (Joan) Holbrook of Clarksville; a stepdaughter, Sharon Burge of Blanchester; 12 grandchildren, Misty Gibson, Kelly Gibson, D.C. Gibson, Chris Gibson, Nicole Holbrook, Andy Holbrook, Alicia Keever, Amy Burge, Bobby Burge, Jesse Holbrook, Geri Holbrook and Gerri Holbrook; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Toler.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Kelly McInerney officiating, with interment in Laurel Memorial Gardens, Loveland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Thurman J. Custis

Age: 85
Thurman J. Custis, 85, of 2529 SR 134 North, Wilmington, died 11:45 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2003) at Grant Hospital, Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Custis. They were married June 19, 1946.
Mr. Custis was born July 12, 1918, in Clinton County, son of the late Verne and Ivalue Crouse Custis. He retired in 1978 from the U.S. Postal Service after working 30 years as a mail carrier in Wilmington. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks 797 and the American Legion Post 49. He graduated in 1936 from Port William High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Rod (Linda) Custis of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Chad (Nikki) Custis of Wilmington and Kelly Custis of Sabina; a niece, Nancy Ertel; and a nephew, David Custis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gifford Custis.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 49 memorial squad. Zachary Robert Hutchens died Monday (Sept. 22, 2003)
He was son of Kenneth J. and Judie Needels-Hutchens. He was a beloved son, precious grandson, dear great-grandson and dear nephew.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, R. Douglas and Joyce Hutchens, Bough Needels-Arand and Tim Arand; his great-grandparents, James A. and Lois V. Herbst and David D. and Martha Hutchens; two uncles, John Needels and Brian Hutchens; and an aunt, Betsy Needels.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Paul A. Needels; and three great-grandparents, Mary F. Hutchens and Gene and Claude Needels.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the JON DEITLOFF FUNERAL CENTRE, 4389 Spring Grove Ave., Cincinnati, with interment in Spring Grove Cemetery.
