Glenn "Speed" E. Murphy
Died: Monday, January 20, 2003
Age: 79

Glenn E. "Speed" Murphy, 79, of 940 N. Lincoln St., Wilmington, died 5:25 p.m. Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at the Wilmington Nursing and Rehabilitation Residence. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Gillam Murphy. They were married Sept. 1, 1945, and were married for 57 years.

Mr. Murphy was born May 16, 1923, in Clinton County, son of the late David Clinton and Maude Fife Murphy. He was a farmer for all of his life. He was a founding member of the Clinton County Antique Power Club. He was a two-time grand marshal of the Clinton County Corn Festival parade. He graduated in 1941 from Wilmington High School.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, John William (Kay) Murphy of Wilmington; a daughter, Jean Ann (Thomas) Gravlin of Centerville; two brothers, Warren (Mary Ellen) Murphy of Wilmington and Myron (Jo Ann) Murphy of Wilmington; five grandchildren, Thomas (Amy) Gravlin, Erin Murphy, Susan Gravlin, Michele (Erick) Hildebrandt and Sarah Murphy; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Maxwell Murphy, John Murphy, James Murphy and Hubert Murphy.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, the Rev. Donald K. Mertz officiating, with burial in New Antioch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton County Antique Power Club Scholarship Fund, in care of Paul Clark, 2025 SR 72 North, Sabina, 45169.

Robert G. Curliss
Died: Monday, January 20, 2003
Age: 81

Robert G. Curliss, 81, of Wilmington, died 9:05 p.m. Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Curliss. They were married Aug. 23, 1946.

Mr. Curliss was born Nov. 7, 1921, in Wilmington, son of the late Oscar Sr. and Ferrol McHenry Curliss. He retired as a supervisor from the Irwin Company after 42 years of service.

He was an avid bowler. He was a cofounder, instructor and coach of youth leagues. He was a long-time member and past president of the Wilmington Men's Bowling Association Board. He was enshrined in the Wilmington Men's Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion Post 49. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the 38th Bomb Group, 823rd Bomb Squadron, which was known as the Tiger Terrors. He graduated from Wilmington High School and attended Wilmington College and the University of Dayton.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James (Marilyn) Curliss of Loveland; a daughter, Sharon (Richard) Collins of Fairview Heights, Ill.; two brothers, Michael Curliss and Larry Curliss; seven sisters, Virginia Steele, Blanche Curliss, Jane Leidenheimer, Maureen Curliss, Ruth Allen, Evelyn Waits and Marilyn Hild; six grandchildren, Heather (Tyler) Momchilov, Rebecca (Shawn) Miller, Phil (Annette) Schnur, J. Andrew (Nicole) Curliss, James Collins and Deborah (Frank) D'Alesio; and 10 great-grandchildren, Madelyn Momchilov, Samantha Miller, Quinn Miller, Virginia Schnur, Victoria D'Alesio, Jacob Momchilov, Jamie Miller, Kristian Collins, Amy Schnur and Isabella D'Alesio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Curliss and Oscar Curliss Jr., and a sister, Betty Greeley.

Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Bertha V. Moore Gwynn
Died: Sunday, January 19, 2003
Age: 96

Bertha V. Moore Gwynn, 96, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Continental Manor, Blanchester. She was preceded in death by William Henry Gwynn, who died June 27, 1990.

Mrs. Gwynn was born July 14, 1906, in Brown County, daughter of the late Verdie Moore and Laura Leonard. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Blanchester Women's Club and a life-long member of the Blanchester Church of Christ.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Donald Moore; and four sisters, Lodemia Pennington, Violet Moore, Roberta Moore and Goldie Moore.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, 45107, J.L. Runk officiating, with interment in Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Blanchester. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Blanchester Church of Christ, 402 E. Center St., Blanchester, 45107.

Yetta Farbman Blum
Died: Sunday, January 19, 2003

Yetta Farbman Blum died 4:20 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at the Blanchester Care Center, Blanchester, where she had been a resident for the last three years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Jacob Blum. They were married May 22, 1927, and were married for 58 years.

Mrs. Blum was born May 22, 1910, in New York City, daughter of Joseph and Sarah "Bobel" Goldstein Farbman.

She is survived by two sons, Stanley (Louise Cotner) Blum of Wilmington and Lawrence Harold (Florence Schack) Blum of Port Richey, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn (Emanuel) Robbins of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Edith Farbman Cherlin of West Palm Beach, Fla.

Burial will be Friday in West Palm Beach, Fla., where she had lived. Arrangements are under the direction of NORTHWOOD FUNERAL HOME, 5608 Broadway, West Palm Beach, Fla. 33407.

Allan McDorman Brown
Died: Saturday, January 18, 2003
Age: 88

Allan McDorman Brown, 88, formerly of 240 Fischer St., Wilmington, recently of Garbry Ridge Assisted Living, Piqua, died 6:45 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. His wife of 64 years, Meredith Bogan Brown, survives. They were married Dec. 29, 1939, at Meredith's home near Clarksville.

Mr. Brown was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Xenia, son of the late J. Roger and Rhea McDorman Brown. He and his father owned Brown's Office Supply store in Wilmington for 45 years. He attended Wilmington City Schools, Miami University and The Ohio State University. He was a Boy Scout and served on this area's council. He was a member of the Wilmington Rotary Club, Elks Lodge and Hospice of Clinton County. He was the first treasurer of the Wilmington Band Club and was a member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. He loved tennis and played many years, winning the Clinton County Tournament several times. He was a talented jazz trumpet player and played in the Bill Weigel Jazz Band in Columbus.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gerald (Harriet) Brown of Columbus; a daughter, Suzanne (John H.) Bunn of Troy; and five grandchildren, Jared W. Bunn, Sarah E. Bunn, Justin A. Bunn, and Cathy and Jennifer Brown.

Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2003) at the BAIRD FUNERAL HOME, 555 N. Market St., Troy, Pastor John Jung officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Mary E. Wilson
Died: Friday, January 17, 2003
Age: 86

Mary E. Wilson, 86, of London, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at the Madison County Hospital, London. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred M. Wilson, who died March 7, 1986. They were married March 12, 1938.

Mrs. Wilson was born Aug. 18, 1916, in Sabina, daughter of the late Frank and Maggie E. Cline Mercer. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Sabina Eastern Star. She graduated in 1934 from Sabina High School.

She is survived by a son, Arthur L. (Beverly Sue) Wilson of London; a daughter, Kay Wilson of Gahanna; four grandchildren, Jennifer Minner of London, Jill Wilson of Chicago, Pam Blaine of Powell and Lee Ann Wurster of Pinkerington; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Stipe of Sabina.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nadine Davis and Thelma Bailey.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in the Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Madison County Hospital Extended Care Facility, London.

Clyde Doyle
Died: Friday, January 17, 2003
Age: 84

Clyde Doyle, 84, of Xenia, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Doyle of Xenia.

Mr. Doyle was born Nov. 12, 1918, in Clay County, Ky., son of the late Lewis and Lillie Sandlin Doyle. He was a life member of the Wilmington V.F.W. Post 6710. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Clyde A. (Mary Ann) Doyle of Xenia; four grandchildren, Brian, Sydney, Scott and A-Jay Doyle, all of Xenia; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Dawn Doyle; and two brothers, Johnny (Addie) Doyle of Blanchester and Walter (Ida) Doyle of Morning View, Ky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Doyle and Charlie Doyle.

Services will be held noon Tuesday at the FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, with burial in the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the Wilmington American Legion Post 49 memorial squad. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, 45420-1885.

Rose N. Wilson
Died: Wednesday, March 26, 2003
Age: 85

Rose N. Wilson, 85, of Columbus, died Wednesday (March 26, 2003) at Worthington Christian Village. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur J. Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of the Beechwold Christian Church and the Inniswood Herb Society.

She is survived by three children, Ellen, Ruth Ann and Michael; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earle Noscar.

A private graveside services

will be held at the Martinsville Cemetery, Martinsville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, Worthington Chapel, 515 High St., Worthington. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Worthington Christian Village, 165 Highbluffs Blvd., Columbus 43235, or to the Grant/Riverside Hospice, 3535 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, 43214.
