Age: 98
Francis M. Cox, 98, who lived at the Sabina home of his daughter Darlene Finley, died 6 p.m. Friday (Oct. 11, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His first wife, Nellie Blair Cox; and his second wife, Margaret Watts Cox, preceded him in death.
Mr. Cox was born April 22, 1904, in Adams County, son of the late James William and Mary Ellen Jones Cox. He was a self-employed logger until retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Democratic Party.
He is survived by four sons, Richard (Ruth) Cox of Hillsboro, Francis M. Jr. (Lois) Cox of Portland, Ore., Leland E. (Janet) Cox of Blanchester, and James W. Cox of Xenia; eight daughters, Opal (Archie) Huffman of Beavercreek, Mary Watters of New Vienna, Margaret Combs of Mount Orab, Betty Cox of Ohio, Alice Estep of Washington Court House, Ida Stewart of Salem, Ore., Darlene (Ron) Finley of Sabina, and Melissa (Jason) Parker of Hurley, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Nancy (Charles) Shaw of Xenia; 57 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald D. Cox and Robert S. Cox; two daughters, Bonnie Watters and Ruth M. Cox; three brothers; and six sisters.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Samantha Free Will Baptist Church, 10211 SR 72, Hillsboro, the Rev. Wiley Perkins officiating, with burial in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of the services Wednesday at the church. REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, is in charge of arrangements.
Robert "Bob" Fisher
Died: Friday, October 11, 2002
Age: 79
Robert "Bob" Fisher, 79, of Blanchester, died Friday (Oct. 11, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. His wife, Stella Stephens Fisher, survives.
Mr. Fisher was born May 17, 1923, in Butlerville, son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Richardson Fisher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Judy Thompson; a son, Kenneth Fisher; a brother, Eldon; and four sisters, Virginia, Janice, Marianna and Isobel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, with burial in Crosson Cemetery, Pleasant Plain. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Orville R. Easter
Died: Thursday, October 10, 2002
Orville R. Easter, 99, of Leesburg, died 11;55 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 10, 2002) at Highland District Hospital, Hillsboro. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Mae Rooks Easter, who died March 23, 1981.
Mr. Easter was born Oct. 4, 1903, in Highland County, son of Jacob and Blanche Gleadall Easter. He was a farmer and member of the Leesburg Friends Church.
He is survived by two sons, Howard D. (fiancee Cookie Crum) Easter of Leesburg and Darrell R. (Susie J.) Easter of Hillsboro; two daughters, Orvaline (George "Tom") Woodruff of Sabina and Norma L. Kahlhamer of Wilmington; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delmas (Ruth) Easter of Greenfield and Francis Easter of Naples, Fla.; and a cousin, Helen Weaver of Greenfield.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Truman Easter.
Funeral services will be held noon Monday at MURRAY-FETTRO FUNERAL HOME, 380 Jefferson St., Greenfield, the Rev. Wylie Perkins officiating, with burial in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Leesburg Area Life Squad, P.O. Daniel R. Miller
Died: Wednesday, October 9, 2002
Age: 53
Daniel R. Miller, 53, of Wilmington, died Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2002) in Clinton County.
Mr. Miller was born Dec. 3, 1948, in Dayton, son of Robert E. Miller of Wilmington and the late Juanita Hall Miller. He was retired from GTE and was a former member of the Wilmington American Legion.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Dustin (Sarah) Miller of Wilmington and Derek Miller of Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter, Delaney Miller of Wilmington; two sisters, Cynda (Harold) Kuhns and Rebecca L. (Doug) Jordan, both of Wilmington; and several nephews.
Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family Friday at Clinton County Memory Gardens, Steve Miller officiating. No visitation is scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5378A Cox-Smith Road, Mason, 45040. Arrangements are under the direction of FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Joseph C. Houk
Died: Tuesday, October 8, 2002
Age: 84
Joseph C. Houk, 84, of St. Martin, died Tuesday morning (Oct. 8, 2002) at Clermont Mercy Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Huffner Houk, who died May 10, 1992.
Mr. Houk was born March 30, 1918, near Westboro, son of the late Joseph N. and Nellie G. Moon Houk. He was a retired employee of General Motors in Dayton. He had been a member of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years and retired as assistant chief. He had been a township trustee for Perry Township for 19 years and had been a member of the Fayetteville-Perry School Board for nine years. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin Catholic Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Moira McGraw of New Vienna; three sons, Joseph N. (Judy) Houk of St. Martin, Ray (Agnes) Houk of St. Martin and Frank (Cathie) Houk of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John P. Houk, who died in 1967; a sister, Helen Dean; five brothers, Harold, Frank, Norman, Olin and William Houk; and a great-granddaughter, Lindsey Houk.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin Catholic Church, the Rev. Mike Savino as celebrant, with burial in St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martin Parish Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of DAVIS-TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 201 Broadway St., Lynchburg.

Age: 29
Cary Lee Fugett, 29, of Blanchester, died Monday (Oct. 7, 2002) at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife, Susan Casson Fugett of Blanchester.
Mr. Fugett was born Jan. 17, 1973, in Wilmington, son of Wayne (Sheila) Fugett of Blanchester and Audrea Cable of Midland.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by three children, Jessica Sturgis, Kristen Sturgis and Ashley Fugett, all of Blanchester; his grandmother, Louise Fugett of Morrow; and a brother, Ryan Fugett of Vandalia.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, J.L. Runk officiating, with burial in Maineville Cemetery, Maineville. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
nancy Verity
Died: Monday, October 7, 2002
Age: 54
Nancy Verity, 54, of Wilmington, died Monday (Oct. 7, 2002) at the Jewish Kenwood Hospital of Cincinnati following a brief illness.
Mrs. Verity was born Sept. 14, 1948, in Somerset Hospital, Somerville, N.J., daughter of Harold Verity of Crystal River, Fla., and the late Frances L. Verity. After moving to Ohio in the early 1970s she worked at Clinton Memorial Hospital for many years, and most recently was a supervisor in centralized scheduling. She was an active member of the Wilmington Fellowship Christian Church. She attended Union Township and Delaware Township schools and participated in 4-H. She graduated in 1967 from Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington, N.Y., where she sang in the choir. She attended Northeastern Bible College for two years.
In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by a son, Andrew (Beth) Michael of Wilmington; a sister, Janet V. (Kenneth) Tremaine of Mt. Pleasant, N.J.; a brother, Dennis H. (Bonnie) Verity of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a granddaughter, Brooke Michael of Wilmington; two nieces, Christina Tremaine and Kristin Hoffmann; and two nephews, Kurt and Michael Hoffmann.
A memorial celebration service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wilmington Christian Fellowship Church, 160 N. South St., Wilmington, with a reception for friends and family held immediately following the service. She will be laid to rest next to her mother in Rosemont, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Verity's memory to the Wilmington Christian Fellowship Church; Clinton Memorial Hospital Foundation, 610 W. Betty Jane Wilks

Age: 75
Betty Jane Wilks, 75, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Oct. 6, 2002) at her home. She is survived by her husband, James Wilks of Blanchester. They were married for 57 years.
Mrs. Wilks was born Nov. 11, 1926, in Greenfield, son of the late William Stroup and Hazel Forsythe.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Marilyn Haag of Wilmington and Tim Wilks of Blanchester; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Stroup of Stoutsville and Bryan Stroup of Newark; and five sisters, Wanita Hughes of Wilmington, Alice Jo Stroup of Circleville, Edith Daniels of Mt. Sterling, Janet Donaldson of Stoutsville and Mary Stroup of Stoutsville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Delbert Wilks; two brothers; and three sisters.
