Age: 48

William Sherman Pleukharp, 48, of Wilmington, died Monday (Oct. 14, 2002) at his home.

Mr. Pleukharp was born July 27, 1954, in Wilmington, son of the late Harold J. and Mildred Hayslip Pleukharp. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and a CB club member. He attended Xenia schools.

He is survived by two daughters, Billie Jean Markel of Wilmington and Amy Louise Pleukharp of Xenia; a son, Ryan Scott Pleukharp of Jamestown; two sisters, Sheryl Estle of Spring Valley and Linda (Frank) Craig of Xenia; two brothers, Harold J. "Tommy" Pleukharp of Xenia and David Lee Pleukharp of Wilmington; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Mefford and Karen Clark; and his grandparents, Evelyn Hayslip and William and Ida Pleukharp.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at McCOLAUGH FUNERAL HOME, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia, the Rev. John Lockwood officiating, with burial in Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruth M. Sewell
Died: Saturday, October 12, 2002
Age: 81

Ruth M. Sewell, 81, of 585 SR 741 North, Lebanon, formerly of Wilmington, died 9:44 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 12, 2002) at Otterbein in Lebanon. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Sewell, who died in May 1945.

Mrs. Sewell was born March 27, 1921, in Lebanon, daughter of the late Robert and Genevieve Wall Hatfield. She was a homemaker and graduated from Lebanon High School.

She is survived by two daughters, Teresa K. Locke of Lebanon and Barbara Jane Griffith of Deer River, Minn.; a stepson, James C. Sewell of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Dorothy M. Hatfield of Lebanon; a sister, Joan Hatfield of Lebanon; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Richard Hatfield, and a sister, Jane Moon.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Sidney Clay officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 101 N. South St., Wilmington, 45177.

Fern Curtis
Died: Wednesday, June 12, 2002
Age: 86

Fern Curtis, 86, died Wednesday (June 12, 2002) at SonLight Home Care after a lingering illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark.

Mrs. Curtis was born May 24, 1916.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Theodore) Holmes; a son, Bill (Cheryl) Curtis; a son-in-law, Gerry Ault; seven grandchildren, Mark (Barbara) Miller, Maureen (Bill) Wilson, Paul (Evelyn) Miller, Wendy (Paul) Green, Debby (Chad) Frazell, Kenneth (Hydie) Curtis and Keith Curtis; and four great-grandchildren, Justine Miller, Megan Miller, Konner Curtis and Max Frazell.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Maxine Ault, and a sister, Gladys.

Fern and Clark Curtis will be interred 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery. A memorial service for Fern will be held 10 a.m. July 6 at the Northwest Community Friends Church, 5950 N. La Canada Drive, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Fern Curtis to the Tucson Association for the Blind for macular degeneration education, 3767 E. Grant road, Tucson, Ariz. 85716 or to the National Cancer Foundation.

Kathryn C. Redkey Cramton
Died: Wednesday, June 12, 2002
Age: 102

Kathryn C. Redkey Cramton, 102, of Martinsville, died Wednesday (June 12, 2002) at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Heber Cramton, who died Feb. 10, 1990. They were married Dec. 15, 1926, in Hillsboro.

Mrs. Cramton was born May 19, 1900, in Highland County, daughter of late Christian Lucas and Minnie May Jones Redkey. She graduated from Greenfield McClain High School and attended Wilmington College, where she was a charter member of Alpha Phi Kappa sorority. Following college, she taught home economics at Samantha. She was an active member of Martinsville United Methodist Church, where she was treasurer of the United Methodist women's society for many years. She was a 73-year member of the Martinsville Order of the Easter Star Chapter 173 (now Order of the Eastern Star Cary Chapter 221), where she served as worthy matron in 1944 and deputy grand matron in 1951. She also was a 73-year member of the Ohio State Grange, a member of the George Clinton Chapter National Society of the American Revolution and the Farm Bureau Advisory Council. She had been a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital and for the county 4-H programs.

She is survived by a daughter, Maxine Cramton of Columbus; a son, James Heber Cramton of Martinsville; a sister, Dorothy May Redkey Koch of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Julie (Bryan) Holland of Cincinnati; a grandson, John H. Cramton of Columbus; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Scott Holland; a sister-in-law, Sara Kathryn Redkey of Hillsboro; a niece, Georgia May Chaney of Wilmington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ann Redkey McConnaughey; and four brothers, James Edwin Redkey, Robert Wayne Redkey, Christian Lester Redkey and William J. Redkey.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Martinsville United Methodist church, Martinsville, the Rev. Michael Barthel officiating, with burial in Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Martinsville United Methodist Church, 78 W. Main St., Martinsville, 45146 or to Hospice of Clinton County, 61 E. Main St., Wilmington, 45177. Arrangements are under the direction of REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington.

Elsie F. Chaney
Died: Tuesday, June 11, 2002
Age: 85

Elsie F. Chaney, 85, of Sabina, died Tuesday (June 11, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. Chaney on May 10, 1986. They were married Aug. 22, 1935.

Mrs. Chaney was born on Jan. 22, 1917, in Xenia, daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Roebuck McClanahan. She was a homemaker and a published poet. She was a member of the Sabina Church of Christ and supported many missionaries around the world. She graduated from Reesville High School.

She is survived by four sons, Richard (Ellen) of Columbus, Stephen (Roxane) of Columbus, John (Helen) of Lufkin, Texas, and Daniel (Debbie) of Sabina; three daughters, Barbara (Curt) Bourne of Sinking Springs, Mary Vertrees of Whitehouse and Sylvia (Vince) Brandel of Sabina; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Fred Vertrees; a great-grandchild; a sister, Hazel Jones; and two brothers, Woodrow and James.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sabina Church of Christ, with burial in Sabina Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sabina Church of Christ or to Hospice of Clinton County.

Lelia M. Tommi Adams
Died: Tuesday, June 11, 2002
Age: 82

Lelia M. Tommi Adams, 82, of Highland, died Tuesday (June 11, 2002) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Adams, who died March 15, 1992.

Mrs. Adams was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Highland County, daughter of the late Jesse G. and Besse Cameron Patton. She was a former assistant postmistress at Highland.

She is survived by a son, David (Janet) Adams of Wilmington; three daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (Robert) Zenk of Littleton, Colo., Mary (Ed) Current of Beavercreek and Frances (Ferruh) Layman of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Uhrig of Hillsboro and Pauline Wilson of Hillsboro; a sister-in-law, Eileen Patton of Hillsboro; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank "Bud" Patton, and a sister, Helen Grover.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of HOPE MILLER-THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 241 E. Main St., Hillsboro.

Ermon "E.J." Jonathan Whitamore
Died: Tuesday, June 11, 2002
Age: 46

Ermon Jonathan "E.J." Whitamore, 46, of Blanchester, died Tuesday (June 11, 2002) at the Continental Manor in Blanchester.

Mr. Whitamore was born Dec. 25, 1955, in Wilmington, son of Marilyn Sink Whitamore of Ellenton, Fla., and the late Robert Whitamore. He was a former member of the Clinton County A.B.A.T.E.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Ermon "Eddie" Whitamore of Chillicothe and Robert Joseph Whitamore of Washington Court House; two sisters, Linda A. (Randy) Moore of Wilmington and Connie J. (Michael) Nielsen of Williamsburg; a grandson, Timothy Whitamore; two nieces, Sheila Smith of Xenia and Karyn Detty of Chillicothe; and a nephew, Randy Moore of Wilmington.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at FISHER-EDGINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 97 W. Locust St., Wilmington, Pastor Virgil Stidham officiating, with burial in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Frances L. Haskins
Died: Monday, June 10, 2002
Age: 59

Frances L. Haskins, 59, a 38-year resident of Wilmington, died peacefully early Monday (June 10, 2002). She was surrounded by family and friends as she completed her life after complications from cancer surgery.

She was a long-time special education teacher in the Wilmington City Schools system. She retired in 1995, but stayed in close contact with her many colleagues. She was a loving grandmother and remained active at Faith Lutheran Church, where she was a member for over 30 years.

She is survived by a son, Robb (Christine); two grandsons, Kyle and Eric; and a brother, John Elizalde.

A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church, 421 E. Vine St., Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions or gifts may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church food pantry.
