Alexander J. Grogg, newborn, of Blanchester, died Wednesday (Sept. 25, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 25, 2002, at Clinton Memorial Hospital, son of James A. and Jenny Vogt Grogg of Blanchester, formerly of Delphos.
He is survived by two brothers, Nicholes and Matthew Grogg; his paternal grandparents, Judie and Jerry Grogg of Delphos; and his maternal grandparents, Anita and Larry Topp of Delphos.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Vogt.
Graveside services will be held noon today at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Pastor McNellan Nicholson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of HARTER AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 209 W. Third St., Delphos.
William J. "Bill" Daulton

Age: 88
William J. "Bill" Daulton, 88, of Leesburg, died Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2002) at Edgewood Manor of Greenfield.
Mr. Daulton was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Otway, son of the late Milford and Etta Wagoner Daulton.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the Leesburg Church of Christ, with burial in Hardin's Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Robert Fife
Died: Tuesday, September 24, 2002
Age: 78
Robert Fife, 78, died Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2002) at the Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla. He had been ill since early July.
Mr. Fife was born April 13, 1924, son of the late Matthew B. Fife and Bertha Slicker. He graduated in 1942 from Wilmington High School. He immediately joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to Norfolk, Va., where he played baseball for a fleet team. He served on the USS Casablanca, an aircraft carrier, in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His ship was torpedoed and sunk, and he was one of the few survivors. After three years and three months of service to his country, he was honorably discharged on April 12, 1946. He was an ace pitcher with the Wilmington American Legion baseball team. In 1946, he met with Tony Lucadello, Chicago Cub scout, and signed a pro contract. He played with the Elizabethtown Cubs of the Appalachian League until he was released due to injury. He married Anna Mae Schramm of Wilmington on Sept. 9, 1951, and they mutually consented to a divorce in 1961. Shortly after his marriage, he attended fireman school in Colorado and became assistant fire chief for 18 years at the former Clinton County Air Force Base. He left the position of fire chief at the age of 47 and continued to reside in Wilmington until 1977, when he moved to Florida to be with his son who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. He returned to Wilmington often and spent the winters in Tavares, Fla., with his son until his death. He was a beloved father and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by a son, Alfred M. Fife of Tavares, Fla.; a brother, William Fife of Wilmington; two nephews, James G. Fife and David W. Fife, both of Wilmington; and a niece, Carma Jean Stein of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel Bowers.
Graveside funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family Monday at Sugar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina.
Robert E. Slocum
Died: Tuesday, September 24, 2002
Age: 79
Robert E. Slocum, 79, of Blanchester, died Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2002) at his home. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Conover of Blanchester. They were married for over 61 years.
Mr. Slocum was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Covington, Ky., son of the late Wilbur M. Slocum and Eleanor M. McGowan. He retired after 30 years working as a civil service employee at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He was a member of the Blanchester American Legion Post 179.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Daniel L. (Jo) Slocum of Blanchester and Gerald M. (Hope) Slocum of Blanchester; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wilbur C. Slocum of Florida; and a sister, Alice Faye Anderson of Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. (Mara) Slocum; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Dell and Helen Slocum.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, the Rev. Everett Bailey officiating. Janet L. Smith

Age: 65
Janet L. Smith, 65, of Piketon, died Sunday (Sept. 22, 2002) at her residence. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd S. Smith. They were married Dec. 13, 1965.
Mrs. Smith was born April 25, 1937, in Sabina, daughter of the late Howard and Anna Scowden Spurlock. She retired from the Pleasant Hill Manor Nursing Home in Piketon. She attended the Sabina Church of Christ in Christian Union. She attended Sabina High School.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, David E. (Nancy K.) Smith of Leesburg, Scott H. (Jill L.) Smith of Sabina and Jody J. (Karen S.) Smith of Waverly; 10 brothers, Estel and Paul Spurlock of New Vienna, Guy, Jim and Dale Spurlock of Sabina, Wayne Spurlock of Orlando, Fla., John and Terry Spurlock of Wilmington, Roger Spurlock of Hillsboro and Larry Spurlock of Leesburg; two sisters, Marcy Laufer and Roxie Woods of Sabina.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday at White Oak Cemetery, Fayette County. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina.
Sam Oscar Osborn
Died: Monday, September 23, 2002
Age: 92
Sam Oscar Osborn, 92, of Midland, died 8:20 a.m. Monday (Sept. 23, 2002) at Blanchester Care Center. He is survived by his wife, Maudie Bingham Osborn. They were married June 20, 1936.
Mr. Osborn was born May 6, 1910, in Lytle in Warren County, son of William Sherman and Cora Lear Osborn. He retired from NCR after working there for 36 years. He also farmed part time. He was a member of the NCR 25 Year Club and Westboro United Methodist Church. He was an avid rabbit and pheasant hunter.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert (Violet) Osborn of Midland, Jerry (Carol) Osborn of Marshallville and Michael (Margie) Osborn of Milford; a daughter, Bonnie F. (Thomas) Ryan of Wilmington; a sister, Charlotte Gordon of Dayton; eight grandchildren, Deborah Lynn Keil, Lori Wright, Deanna Snider, Robert Osborn Jr., Suzanne Gray, Kenneth William Christian, John David Christian and Michael Osborn Jr.; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, David and Woodrow Osborn; and five sisters, Goldie Pierce, Louella Flagg, Mary Osborn, Catherine Osborn and Lilly Osborn.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, the Rev. Tony Hudson officiating, with burial in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ariel Rohlfs Stults

Age: 77
Ariel Rohlfs Stults, 77, of Wilmington, died Monday (Sept. 23, 2002) at her residence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin W. Stults.
Mrs. Stults was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Wheeling, W.Va., daughter of the late Spencer and Stella Kenner Rohlfs.
She is survived by four children, Gus F. Fricke of Evansville, Ind., Steve E. (Trudi) Fricke of Clarksville, Liane S. Fox of Houston, Texas, and Lisa J. Bourque of Batavia; three stepchildren, Edwin W. Stults Jr. of Linwood, Mich., George C. Stults of Cincinnati and Patricia McNichol of Pickerington; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; eight stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a brother, Sheldon G. Rohlfs of Florida.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a twin brother, Darrell C. Rohlfs.

James Cecil Louis "CC" Burton
Died: Sunday, September 22, 2002
Age: 63
James Cecil Louis "CC" Burton, 63, of Ashland, Ky., and Blanchester, died peacefully Sunday (Sept. 22, 2002) at his home. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Faye Gillum Burton.
Mr. Burton was born July 23, 1939, in Boyd County, Ky., son of the late Cecil E. "Pete" and Beulah Wright Burton. He was a metallurgist. He was a member of Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rite, Jaycees of Ashland and Grace United Methodist Church. As a Masonic Lodge member, he was a 32-degree Mason, had his 25-year pin and was a Kentucky colonel. As a member of the Jaycees of Ashland, he was named one of Kentucky's 10 outstanding young men. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Morehead State College and post graduate of Marshall University and Xavier University.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Allyson Faye Burton of Ashland, Ky., and Julie Anne Burton (Douglas N.) Hay of Pleasant Plain; four grandchildren, Samantha Faye, Jane Allyson Christine, Peter Ross and Julieana Suzanne; and a niece, Rebecca Burton Jenkinson of Greenville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with Minister Dale Carden, the Rev. Michael Locklear and the Rev. McCelland Nickelson officiating, with burial in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at LAZEAR FUNERAL HOME, 1632 Central Ave., Ashland, Ky., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be Gennis Tipton, Kurt Downing, Harold Gillum, Erland Stevens, Bob Miller, Jerry Ritter and Joe Howard. Honorary pallbearers will be Herb Howell, Charlie Rouster, Dan Stewart and Edd Lum.
