Shelby "Bud" I. Harding
Died: Sunday, September 1, 2002
Age: 87
Shelby "Bud" I. Harding, 87, of Blanchester, died Sunday (Sept. 1, 2002) at Bethesda North Hospital, Montgomery. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Wilson Harding of Blanchester. They were married for 59 years.
Mr. Harding was born May 21, 1915, in Covington, Ky., son of the late John O. Harding and Prudie J. Kemp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with honor during World War II. He retired in 1980 from the Ford Motor Co.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Donald) Daulton of Bowersville and Janet Coliflower of Harrison; four grandchildren; Linda Ankeney, Kevin Daulton, John Coliflower and Howard Coliflower; four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Ankeney, Rae Ankeney, Kristan Daulton and Aspen Coliflower; a sister, Helen Piner of Fort Wright, Ky.; three brothers-in-law, Chester Wilson, Bill Wilson and Mark Black; five sisters-in-law, Nina O'Connor, Helen Wilson, Mary Probasco, Joy Wilson and Evelyn Harding; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Blanchester, J.L. Runk officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of TUFTS SCHILDMEYER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester.
Lawrence Dean
Died: Saturday, August 31, 2002
Age: 78
Lawrence Dean, 78, of Wilmington died 7:05 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 31, 2002) at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Olive Belle Eaglin Dean, whom he married Feb. 10, 1945.
He was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Brown County, son of Charles and Gladys Woodruff Dean, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church. He was a board member of the Dairy Farmers of America from 1970-1995. He was well known in the farming community, and had been featured in articles in the Wilmington News Journal and Ohio Holstein Magazine. He was a member of district, state and national holstein associations. Mr. Dean and his wife lived in the community on the same dairy farm for 52 years. He was a dedicated and loving husband and devoted family man who dedicated his life to his family and the dairy farming industry.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Joyce (James) Blust of Versailles, Ky., Judy (Michael) Cowman of Wilmington and Jennifer (Rod) McCord of Wilmington; two sons, Jim Bob (Barb) Dean of Wilmington and Johnny Bill (Roxanne) Dean of Wilmington; a brother, James (Loretta) Dean of Hillsboro; two sisters, Hilda Wilkin of Hillsboro and Frances (Jack) Detmer of Cincinnati; a sister-in-law, Esther Dean of Lynchburg; five grandchildren, James (Elizabeth) Blust of San Diego, Calif., Jeremy (Jessica) Blust of Florence, Ky., Nikki Dean of Wilmington, Jason Dean of Wilmington and Janelle Dean of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Kira Blust of San Diego, Calif. and Jacey Blust of Florence, Ky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant sons; an infant daughter; a brother, Ralph Dean; a sister, Iva Quallen; and two brothers-in-law, Robert Quallen and Darwin Wilkin.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry St., Wilmington, the Rev. James M. Wedig celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Fayetteville. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at REYNOLDS SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., with prayers at 8 p.m.

John Vance Murphy
Died: Friday, August 30, 2002
Age: 84
John Vance Murphy, 84, of West Lafayette, Ind., died 8:45 p.m. Friday (Aug. 30, 2002) at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kinzel, on Feb. 5, 2001. The couple was married May 3, 1943 in Wilmington.
He was born Sept. 17, 1917 in Wilmington. A graduate of Wilmington High School and the University of Cincinnati, he was a mechanical engineer at Armco Steel Corp for seven years before going to Avco Corp for 21 years. He worked at Jacuzzi Pump before retiring in 1982. He was a
lieutenant in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in West Lafayette, Ind., the American Society of Professional Engineers and the Retired Officers Association of American Engineers. He lived in West Lafayette, Ind., since April 2000 when he moved there from Hot Springs Village, Ark.
He is survived by three daughters, Melinda (Don) McCoy of Portland, Ore., Patricia (Charles) Babbs of West Lafayette, Ind. and Barbara (George) Waller of Plano, Texas; and three brothers, Warren (Mary Ellen) Murphy of Wilmington, Glen (Miriam) Murphy of Wilmington and Myron (Joan) Murphy of Wilmington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers.
Memorial service will be noon Tuesday at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in West Lafayette, Ind., with the Rev. Pat Sleeth officiating. Edna Brooks Edwards
Died: Wednesday, August 28, 2002
Age: 72
Edna Brooks Edwards, 72, of Wilmington, died Wednesday (Aug. 28, 2002) at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwards.
Mrs. Edwards was born Sept. 23, 1929, in Warren County, daughter of Raymond H. and Etta Ruth Kennedy Brooks. She was a member of the Clinton County Senior Citizens and Wilmington Church of Christ. She graduated from Harveysburg High School.
She is survived by a son, Ronald (Linda) Brooks of Sabina; 10 stepchildren, Betty (Bill) Bridges of Wilmington, Juanita (Charles) Miller of Blanchester, Joyce Kimball of Blanchester, Virginia (Paul) Pollitt of Blanchester, Arthur (Phyllis) Edwards of Port William, Dean (Deanna) Edwards of Washington Court House, Wayne (Tacie) Edwards of Washington Court House, Lee (Darlene) Edwards of Charleston, W.Va., and Ronald (Margene) Edwards of Delta, Ala.; two grandchildren, Melinda Ross and Glenn Brooks; 23 stepgrandchildren; a great-grandchild, Nathan Ross; 29 stepgreat-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Brooks of Xenia.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Stewart and Gertrude, Eleanor and Ruth Ellen Brooks; a brother, David Brooks; and a son-in-law, Jerry Kimball.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at LITTLETON FUNERAL HOME, 104 N. Jackson St., Sabina, with burial in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
David A. Petrone
Died: Tuesday, August 27, 2002
Age: 21
David A. Petrone, 21, of 721 Franklin St., Worcester, Mass., formerly of Blanchester, died Tuesday (Aug. 27, 2002) at UMASS-Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, from injuries sustained earlier in the day in a rock climbing accident at Mount Wachusett in Princeton, Mass.
Mr. Petrone was born in Portsmouth, N.H., son of Paula J. (Crone) Petrone of Blanchester and Vito A. Petrone of Oxford, Mass. He lived most of his life in Worcester, but also lived some years in Ohio. He enjoyed poetry, music and writing lyrics for music. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann. He graduated from North High School in Worcester, where he was active in the Junior ROTC program with the U.S. Navy. He also attended Quinsigamond Community College.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Joseph P. Petrone of Worcester, Mass., and Nicholas D. Petrone of Oxford, Mass; his paternal grandparents, Fedeli A. "Fred" and Catherine C. Costanzo Petrone, with whom he lived; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Strotmeyer Crone of Blanchester; aunts; uncles; cousins; and a host of friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann, 24 Mulberry St., Worcester, Mass., with burial in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Marilyn T. Dieble

Age: 72
Marilyn T. Dieble, 72, of Wilmington, died Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at her residence. She is survived by her husband, William E. Dieble Sr., of Wilmington. They were married Feb. 7, 1953.
Mrs. Dieble was born March 10, 1930, in Canton, daughter of the late Edmond A. and Bertha M. Strickroth Stephan. She was active in the pro-life movement since its inception, the Clinton County Right to Life, Clinton County Women's Center and the Sacred Heart Sodality at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. She was a former member of the Clinton County Registered Nurses Association and Buckeye Trails Girl Scout Council. She was involved in many lay organizations with St. Martin's Deanery and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, William E. (Mary) Dieble of Wilmington; three daughters, Carol A. (David) Hoover of Wilmington, Susanne (Mark) Cowman of Wilmington and Patricia A. Calhoun of Wilmington; four sisters, Jeanne Willaman of North Canton, Shirley (Don) Wilson of Canton, Rita (Harry) Schuster of Spearfish, S.D., and Alice (Cletus) McCauley of North Canton; three brothers, Ed (Lois) Stephan of California, Dick (Madelline) Stephan of Massilon and William J. Stephan of California; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Stephan; and two sisters, Nancy J. Stephan and Gertrude Biltz.

Walter R. Long Jr.
Died: Monday, August 26, 2002
Age: 55
Walter R. Long Jr., 55, of Cuba, died 9:45 p.m. Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at Kettering Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Sue Scott Long. They were married June 27, 1975.
Mr. Long was born Oct. 30, 1946, in Wilmington, son of the late Walter R. Sr. and Marjorie Dawson Long. He was the highway superintendent for the Clinton County Highway Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and service during the Vietnam War.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Bobbi Jo (James) Schlaegel of Wilmington; four sons, Shawn Michael (Sara) Long of Wilmington, Joseph William Long of Cuba, Brian Roy Long of Wilmington and Chad (Mistie) Clifton of Cuba; two brothers, David (Lisa) Cole of Hillsboro and Wes (Claudia) Mitchell of Seaman; a sister, Caralyn Everman of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Faith Long and Tyler Clifton; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at REYNOLDS-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 327 N. South St., Wilmington, Pastor Harold E. Horton officiating, with burial in Sugar Grove Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the American Legion 49 Memorial Squad. Lawrence V. "Vic" Ellis
Died: Saturday, August 24, 2002
Age: 88
Lawrence V. "Vic" Ellis, 88, of Bowersville, died Saturday evening (Aug. 24, 2002) at Liberty Nursing Center, Jamestown. His wife, Letha, died in 1993.
Mr. Ellis was born April 9, 1914, in Jefferson Township, Greene County, son of the late Charles and Iva Sheley Ellis. He was a lifelong resident of Jefferson Township, member of the Bowersville United Methodist Church, and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by a son, Wesley (Sandy) Ellis; three grandchildren, Naomi Ellis, Audra (Matt) Leeds and Ryan Ellis; three great-grandchildren, Trey Ellis, Dylan Leeds and Ryan Ellis Jr., all of Bowersville.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Powers Funeral Home, 12 N. Limestone St., Jamestown, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bowersville United Methodist Church.
