Gloria Trzynka
CECIL -- Gloria J. Trzynka, 72, died at 5:14 a.m. Tuesday, August 22 at 7708 Road 8, Hicksville.
She was born on July 26, 1928 in Rosston, IN, the daughter of Stephen and Maude (Kouns) Slaymaker. She graduated from Warsaw, IN High School in 1946 and International Business College on May 23, 1947. On July 10, 1954 she married Harold Trzynka, who survives.
She was a private secretary for the former owner of the News-Sentinel and also worked at Greyhound Bus Co., Fort Wayne, IN.
She was a member of Bethel Christian Church, Arthur, OH, where she also taught Sunday school. She was a past Vice-President of the American Cancer Society for Paulding County.
Also surviving are four sons, Paul, Marshfield, MA, Philip, New York, NY, Peter, Fort Wayne, and Joseph, Cecil; four daughters, Linda Brown and Martha Straley, both of Antwerp, Mary Jewel, Hicksville, and Elizabeth Ratliff, Cecil; and 24 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at South Scipio United Brethren Church on Thursday, August 24 at 12 noon. Rev. Stephen E. Smith will officiate. Burial took place in Spindler Cemetery, Mark Center.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society, South Scipio United Brethren Church, or Paulding County Visiting Nurses and Hospice.
Virginia Thomas
AUBURN, IN -- Virginia M. Thomas, 78, died on Thursday, October 11, 2001 at Miller's Merry Manor, Garrett, IN.
She was born on February 7, 1923 in Bryan, the daughter of James H. and Dessie M. (Evans) Cromwell. She graduated from Hicksville High School in 1941.
She was a homemaker and a cafeteria worker in DeKalb Central Schools for 13 years.
She was a member of Women of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of Greenhurst Country Club, Auburn.
Surviving are her husband, Richard L.; two daughters, Bethany J. Heffley, Corunna, IN, and Sandy K., Auburn; a brother, Harold D. Cromwell, Hicksville; a sister, D. Joan Wise, Auburn; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maxine G. Skinner and Mary Morral; and five brothers, Robert Cromwell, Lester Cromwell, Deac Cromwell, Bud Cromwell and Forrest Cromwell.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 20 at 11 a.m. (Indiana time) at Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.
McComb, Dilgard and Cline Funeral Home, Auburn, was in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Steingass
FORT WAYNE, IN -- Gerald (Jerry-Bossman) L. Steingass, 53, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001 at his home from a cancerous brain tumor.
He was born on April 24, 1948 in Defiance, the son of Kenneth and Helen Steingass.
He was employed with S.K. handtool, Defiance, for 26 years and retired as a supervisor at Regent Manufacturing, Edgerton, after 15 years.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Black Horse Unit during the Vietnam War.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bryan.
Surviving are his wife, June; his parents, of Ayersville; two sons, Daniel, Defiance, and David, Hicksville; a brother, Les, Ada, OH; and four grandchildren.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
Services were at 2 p.m. (Indiana time) Monday, October 15 in D. O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, Fort Wayne. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.

Margaret Miller
MONTPELIER, OH -- Margaret R. Miller, 68, died on Thursday evening, October 11, 2001 in her home following an illness.
She was born on July 26, 1933 in Montpelier, the son of Vernice and Leota E. (Walters) Echler. She was a Montpelier resident most of her life. Her husband, Hicksville native Jessie H. Miller, preceded her in death on January 17, 1987.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Montpelier.
Surviving are three sons, Jessie (Gail), Timothy (Marie) and Douglas (Kathy Jo), all of Montpelier; two daughters, Beverly (Bruce) Stevens, Montpelier, and Penny (Ed) Frey, Bryan; six grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; four brothers, Donald (Fran) Echler, Toledo, OH, Norman (Mary) Echler, Montpelier, Raymond (Sue) Echler, Edon, and William (Mary) Echler, Decatur, IL; and three sisters, Phyllis (James) Fitzenrider, Montpelier, Jeanette (Garry) Mosier, Bryan, and Gertrude (Forrest) Brown, Camden, MI.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Richard Echler and Roger Echler; and one sister, Glenda Smith.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church, with Pastors David Coffin and Mike Beasley officiating. Burial was in Lost Creek Cemetery, Hicksville.
Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier, was in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to Hospice Care of Community Hospitals of Williams County.
Gilbert Hutchison
WEST UNITY, OH -- Gilbert "Dick" S. Hutchison, 90, died on Monday evening, October 8, 2001 in Community Hospitals of Williams County, Bryan.
He was born on May 13, 1911 in West Unity, the son of George and Carmah (Fisher) Hutchison. In 1941 he married Vivian Velehr Cook, who died in 1993.
He was a self-employed painting contractor and a cross watchman for the former New York Central Railroad, retiring in 1960.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis, Holiday City, OH, and Dean, Pioneer, OH; five sisters, Helen Howbridge, Elkhart, IN, Nina King, Hicksville, Hazel Ohneck, New Haven, IN, Mrs. Claire (Freda) Brunt, Temperance, MI, and Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Bradley, Bryan; a special friend, Joy Meeks, Edon; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were three sisters, Mary, Dorothy and Blanche, and three brothers, Virtle, Harry and Hubert.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 11 in Hollingshead Funeral Home, West Unity, with Rev. David Coffin officiating. Burial was in Floral Grove Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the American Red Cross or a charity of the donor's choice.
