Leo Smith
BRYAN -- Leo D. Smith, 85, of Openlander Road, died at his home early in the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
He was born on November 23, 1915 in Farmer Township, Defiance County, the son of Ralph and Carrie (Husted) Smith. On March 2, 1935 he was united in marriage with Mary M. Burley, Fort Wayne, IN.
He was a lifelong resident of Openlander Road.
He was a farmer for 60 years.
He was a member of Farmer United Methodist Church, Farmer School Board, Farmer Cemetery Board and Central Local School Board.
Surviving are his wife, Mary; four sons, Charles, at home, Delmar (Scarlet), Bryan, Leon (Vicki), Archbold, and Ron (Donna), Edgerton; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, LaRue Desch, Defiance.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jim and Tom; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Farmer United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, with Rev. Sharron Twining, Pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in Farmer Cemetery.
Brown Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Warner
FORT WAYNE, IN -- Robert W. Warner, 80, died on Sunday, April 1, 2001.
Born in Hicksville, he retired in 1983 from Falstaff Brewery and Centlivre Brewery after 35 years. He also had worked at Nabisco.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Helen F.; a daughter, Linda Clark, Churubusco, IN; a son, Larry L. and a sister, Ellen Hofrichter, both of Fort Wayne; a brother, Cecil, Morrison, TN; and two grandchildren.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. (Indiana time) Friday, April 6 at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Fort Wayne. Burial followed in Catholic Cemetery with military graveside services.
C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials to St. Joseph Medical Center Coronary Intensive Care or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Charles Doan
VENEDOCIA, OH -- Former Crestline, OH resident Charles D. "Chuck" Doan, 66, died on Tuesday morning, April 3, 2001 in Van Wert Manor Nursing Home.
He was born on July 11, 1934 in Warren, IN, the son of Ethel Franklin and Anna Mae (Rodgers) Doan. He was a 1953 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School.
He was a retired farmer, truck driver and sign maker.
He was a member of Faith Community Church, Crestline, and a former member of the Sherwood Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Curtis, Mark Center, and Clint, Hicksville; a daughter, Charlene Alloway, Hicksville; a brother, Frank (Ruby), Convoy; three sisters, Margaret Simmons, Oklahoma City, OK, Louise Dull, Van Wert, and Phyllis Balliet, Ohio City; two former wives, Geri (Courtney) Doan, Crestline, and Connie (Straw) Purk, Hicksville; five grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Elmer and David Wesley Doan; two sisters, Jessie Hickernell and Edna Muriel Hoghe; and a granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Friday, April 6 at 2 p.m. in Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery, with Pastor Michael Waldron of Ohio City United Methodist Church officiating.
Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Virginia Reed
FORT WAYNE, IN -- Virginia M. Reed, 88, died on Friday, April 6, 2001 in Defiance Hospital.
She was born on September 22, 1912 in Fort Wayne, IN. Her husband, Lawrence R., died in 1989. She was a lifelong Fort Wayne resident.
She retired after 31 years as an inspector at General Electric.
She was a member of Christ Church at Georgetown, IN, and the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a son, Harry, Hicksville; a sister, Dorothy Huffman, Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucille Bopp, in 1997.
Services were held at the church at 1 p.m. (Indiana time) Tuesday, April 10. Burial followed in Lindenwood Cemetery.
