Robert Dale Smith
Robert Dale Smith, 73, of Delaware, died Thursday afternoon (Feb. 23, 2006) at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus.
He was born March 22, 1932 in Powell to Charles Smith and Lilie (Weaver) Smith. He had retired from Ranco Manufacturing in Plain City, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force who served in the Korean conflict. He also was a golden member of the Delaware Eagles No. 376 and the VFW No. 3297.
He is survived by his wife of more than 53 years, Helen (Boring); son, Bob (Florence) Smith of Cardington; four grandchildren, Cassie, John, Nasha and Lucy; two great-grandchildren, Madelynn and Jaxon; two sisters, Alma Kathryn Shoaf and her special friend Carl Conklin, of Northport, Fla., and Mary Jo (Winfred) Davenport of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Charles Owen Smith.
Graveside memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Greenmound Cemetery in Kilbourne, with the Rev. Jeannie Winters officiating. The Delaware County Veterans Association will provide military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
Rodman Neeper Funeral Home and Crematory, Bennett Brown Chapel, 92 N. Sandusky St., is assisting the family.

Spencer Cody Smith
Spencer Cody Smith, 16, of Delaware, died unexpectedly Saturday morning (Feb. 25, 2006) in Delaware.
He was born March 28, 1989 in Delaware to Thomas Smith and Roma (Morrow) Smith. He was a junior at Buckeye Valley High School who enjoyed bull riding, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his mother of Delaware; his father of Zanesfield; a brother, Thomas (Cindy) Smith of Delaware; two nephews, Bryer and Bryce Smith; paternal grandmother, Susan Smith of Delaware; maternal grandmother, Marie Morrow of Ashley; his girlfriend, Heidi Mirise; and his best friend, Rem McCurdy.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Tony Smith; paternal grandfather, John Smith; and maternal grandfather, Otis Morrow.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Chapel, 92 N. Sandusky St., where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will follow in Marlboro Cemetery.

Brock Anthony Van Scyoc
Brock Anthony Van Scyoc, 18, of Leesburg, died Thursday (Feb. 23, 2006) as a result of an auto accident.
He was born Sept. 8, 1987 in Delaware to Ronald Van Scyoc and Jeanne (Daugherty) Van Scyoc. He was a senior at Hillsboro High School and loved dirt bike racing.
He is survived by his father, Ronald (Nickie) Van Scyoc of Grove City; mother, Jeanne (Greg) Yant of Delaware; paternal grandmother, Trudie (Brad VanWinkle) Van Scyoc of Leesburg; paternal grandfather, Ronald Van Scyoc of Westerville; maternal grandparents, Virginia and Harold Daugherty of Delaware; maternal stepgrandparents, Jim and Patsy Yant of Delware; three sisters, Brittany and Tesla Yant of Delaware; and Kristen Van Scyoc of Grove City; three brothers, Brennan and Gregory Yant of Delaware and Matthew Van Scyoc of Grove City.
Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church, Ohio 62, Hillsboro, and from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 92 N. Sandusky St. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Ashley Union Cemetery.

William Brokaw
William Brokaw, 90, of Delaware, died Saturday morning (Feb. 25, 2006) at Grady Memorial Hospital. Arrangements will be announced by Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Chapel, Delaware.

Edythe Jones
Edythe Jones, 94, of Delaware, died Saturday evening (Feb. 25, 2006) at the Lutheran Home of Toledo. Arrangements will be announced by Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Chapel, Delaware.

Rick Stidam
Rick Stidam, 43, Delaware, died Saturday (Feb. 25, 2006) evening at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware. Arrangements will be announced by the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Delaware.

Virginia Doyle (Maugans) Felkner
Virginia Doyle (Maugans) Felkner, 90, of Ostrander, died Saturday evening (April 1, 2006) at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born June 11, 1915 in Murfreesboro, Tenn., to Dwight L. and Frances A. (Dix) Maugans. An Ostrander resident since 1935, she taught horticulture at Scioto Village, retiring after seven years. She attended Mill Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Mill Creek Garden Club and the Ostrander Senior Citizens. She enjoyed art painting, ceramics and flower gardnening.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Pauline) of Westerville; her daughter, Sherry, with whom she resided; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Todd) McClenathan of Cardington, Brian Felkner of Columbus and Danny Felkner of Delaware; and three great-grandchildren, Katy, Savannah and Jonathan McClenathan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1971; and three sisters, Violet Perry Walker, Beryl Mottern and Clara Rion.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Bennett Brown Chapel, 1510 W. William St., where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Pat Bruce officiating. Interment will follow at Mill Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Grady, 561 W. Central Ave., Delaware, OH 43015 or Mill Creek Baptist Church, 59 N. Fourth St., Ostrander, OH 43061.

Dale A. Brenning
Dale A. Brenning, 58, of Centerburg, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon (April 1, 2006) at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville. Private services for the family will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

Mary H. Newcomb
Mary H. Newcomb, 49, of Delaware, died Sunday (April 2, 2006) at her residence. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Robinson Funeral Home, Delaware.

Lois Ruth Hohmann Engel
Lois Ruth Hohmann Engel, 78, of Delaware, died Sunday evening, (August 14, 20005) at the Cherith Care Center at Willow Brook Christian Village.
She was born March 8, 1927, in the Republic of Panama, to Kathryn (Gardner) and Frank Hohmann, American government workers in the Panama Canal Zone. After graduation from Balboa High School in 1944, Lois attended Bethany College in Bethany, W.Va., and graduated from the Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary and the Physical Therapy School of Virginia Commonwealth. She married Lewis Engel, a cargo specialist for the Military Sea Transportation Service, in 1949 and moved to Woodside, N.Y.; there she became an active member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. She worked as a physical therapist at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, New York City, until the birth of her first child. After raising two daughters, she returned to physical therapy, working in the special-needs program at a nearby elementary school. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1969, she and her family moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. where she joined Central Bible Church and continued her career as a physical therapist at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Her husband, Lewis, died in 1986. After retiring in 1990, Mrs. Engel moved to Delaware. She sang in the Delaware Bible Church choir for several years and often played piano in various ministries. She also enjoyed being a volunteer teacher’s aide at Delaware Christian School for several years. She had a lifelong love for the piano, from playing in a Canal Zone USO during World War II to playing for elderly homebound friends. She also enjoyed classical music and reading, especially true-life accounts of rural life and of work with animals. Above all, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ and took II Timothy 1-12b as her testimony - “For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.”
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Engel of Delaware; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Jeff Slider of Delaware; two grandchildren, Robert and Emily Slider of Delaware; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Marlys Hohmann of St. Cloud, Minn.; nieces and a nephew, grandnieces and a grandnephew; and many friends.
A memorial celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Delaware Bible Church, 45 Belle Ave., with Pastor Marvin Hintz officiating. There will be an hour of visitation before the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Bible Church or to Delaware Christian School.
Arrangements are in charge of Robinson Funeral Home.

Julia 'Judy' Cushman Orahood
Julia 'Judy' Cushman Orahood, 92, of Delaware, and a former longtime resident of Marysville, died Friday (Aug. 12, 2005) at the Arbors at Delaware.
She was born Sept. 25, 1912 in Champaign County to the late Arthur and Mary Blake Cushman. A homemaker, she raised her family while she worked alongside her husband at their South Main Street drugstore and soda fountain located on the Marysville town square. The drugstore later became known as “Walgomont & Orahood” and then, “Orahood & McCarthy.” A member of Marysville First United Methodist Church, she was a former member and past president of Memorial Hospital of Union County Auxiliary and a member of Twig 1. She was very active with the “Hi Fever Follies” in the 1960s. She was a member of Mary Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Kings Daughters. She was a former member and past president of Aletheia Society. She was a graduate of Woodstock High School.
She is survived by a son, Richard C. Orahood, M.D., of Delaware; grandchildren, James Andrew (Tammie) Orahood of Indiana, Molly Powers Orahood of Indiana, Karen (Peter) Hazelton of Westerville, Dawn Orahood of Columbus and Richard Kevin Orahood of Georgia; a stepgrandson, Silas (Heather) Ungar of Cleveland; two great-grandsons, Sean and Ethan Hazelton; three sisters, Bertha Karrer of Columbus, Verna Bergandine of Sunbury and Josephine Claar of Indiana; a brother, Arthur (Marie) Cushman, of Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Orahood in 1972; a son, Robert L. “Bo” Orahood Jr. on May 26, 1995; three brothers, William, Robert and Charles Cushman; a sister, Elsie Bowerman; a grandson, John Orahood; and two daughters-in-law, Barbara Orahood and Deborah DeBrular.
The family received friends Monday at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at Marysville First United Methodist Church. She was buried beside her husband at Oakdale Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Patricia Ann Blue
Patricia Ann Blue, 57, of Ostrander, died peacefully Sunday (Aug. 14, 2005) surrounded by her loved ones. Calling hours will be Sunday and funeral Monday at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel.

Joanne Hopper
Joanne Hopper, 74, died Monday morning (Aug. 15, 2005) at Mount Carmel Hospital. Arrangements will be announced by the Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home in Delaware.

Mary K. Spurlock
Mary K. Spurlock, 78, of Delaware, died Monday evening (Aug. 15, 2005) at Grady Memorial Hospital. Arrangements will be announced by the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware.

Jean Frakes Birch
Jean Frakes Birch, 83, of Delaware County, died Saturday (June 19, 2004) at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
She was born Sept. 21, 1920 in Noble County to Melville and Stella (Pilcher) Frakes. She graduated from Caldwell High School. She lived in Upper Arlington before coming to Delaware County in 1976. She was a homemaker and co-founder of the Greater Columbus Horse Shows in the early 1970s. She bought the first ambulance for the Franklin County Mounted Deputies. Beginning with the fourth annual show, she worked for more than 15 years at the All American Youth Horse Shows.
She is survived by a daughter, Sara Birch, of Delaware County; two sons, David of Delaware County and Mike of Huron; a sister, Glidys Soike of Englewood; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Colonel Harold Birch in 1976; two sisters, Doris Lynch and Glenore Frakes; and a brother, Robert Frakes. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St. A private graveside service and interment will be Thursday at Blendon Central Cemetery in Westerville with the Rev. Richard Ellsworth officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
