James N. Howard, of Shawnee Hills died unexpectedly Monday evening (Sept. 26, 2005) at his residence. Arrangements will be announced by Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home, Delaware.
John F. Betz
John F. Betz, 80, of Columbus, died Sunday (Oct. 23, 2005).
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a U.S. Marine, serving with the 4th Division on Iwo Jima during World War II. He was a life member of the D.A.V.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Ashton) Betz; two sons, Dan (Susie) Betz of Columbus and David (Carol) Betz of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, JoAnn (Steve) Stump of Westerville and Beverly (Frank) Layman of Jackson, Mich.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother, George Betz; and one sister, Rachel (Josiah) Turner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. and Carrie (Robinson) Betz; and two sisters, Mary Walters and Martha Ward.
The family will receive friends at Rutherford-Shroyer Funeral Home, 1278 W. Broad St., Columbus, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, and one hour prior to the funeral services, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Jim Will officiating.
Charles 'Frank' Harbolt
Charles 'Frank' Harbolt, 62, formerly of Marion, died Thursday (Oct. 20, 2005) in Morrow County Hospital after a four-year battle with cancer.
He was born in Marion on June 14, 1943, the son of the late Arthur H. and Ethel D. (Davidson) Harbolt. After serving in the United States Navy he went on to work for Tecumseh and retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol as a motor vehicle inspector. He was a member of the Marion Moose Lodge and Kings Mill Golf Club. He was also a diehard fisherman and known as an e-mail “junkie,” but most of all loved golf.
He is survived by his three children, Joseph Harbolt of Bellville, Jennifer Ball of Mansfield and Patricia Jackson of Cardington; seven grandchildren, Matt, Brian, Joey, Shayla, Jaquie, Matt and Guinevere; three brothers,; Dave, Robert and Larry Harbolt; five sisters, Shirley Martin, Mary Cook, Lennie Morrison, Ethel Jordan and Donna Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Henry Harbolt, on Feb. 17, 1976; and siblings, Anna, Ruth, Art, Bill and Richard.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens in Marion, with Pastor Mike Stein officiating. Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Gilead handled the arrangements.

Wilbur Virgil Stults
Wilbur Virgil Stults, 77, of Delaware, died Sept. 24, 2005 at the Arbors Nursing Home of Delaware.
He was born July 1, 1928 to Jesse and Marie Stults. He served with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) in Korea. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a professional over-the-road long distance truck driver for Suburban Motor Freight and Drivers Inc., from which he retired.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth E. (Wallace); a daughter, Lisa E. Schmidt and two grandchildren, Jonathan Myers and Joshua Schmidt, all of Marion; five sisters, Evelyn Swearingin of Fairbault, Minn., Ella Akinson of Reynoldsburg, Beverly (Vernon) Ross of Chillicothe, Jane Ott Bullock of Delaware, and Irene (Wilmer) Stevens of Shawnee Hills; a brother-in-law, Stan Weiser; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many treasured co-workers and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara Weiser; three brothers, Ralph, Ernest “Pete,” and Phin T.; and brothers-in-law, Charles Swearingin and Marshall Akison.
A private family graveside service will be held. The family has requested memorials should be given to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Clatie E. Daniels
Clatie E. Daniels, 87, of Delaware, died Sunday (Oct. 23, 2005) at Riverside Methodist Hospital of Columbus. Arrangements will be announced by Robinson Funeral Home, Delaware.
Johan Torgrim Farstad
Johan Torgrim Farstad, 76, died Nov. 18, 2005 in his Lakeport, Calif., home after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Lepsoy, Norway, on Sept. 8, 1929, he came to the United States after serving as a radio operator at sea. He lived for 30 plus years in Sunbury, were he worked as a mechanical engineer in Columbus before retirement. He was an active retiree in his community, enjoying HAM radio, the Scandinavian club, and various volunteer positions. He was very loved and will dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy; son, Jerry and his wife Melissa; daughter, Elaine; brother, Arnfinn and his wife Margaret; and sisters Inga, Torborg, and Palma.
Johanna 'Honey' Fritz
Johanna 'Honey' Fritz, 77, of The Sanctuary At Tuttle Crossing, Dublin, died Nov. 14, 2005.
She was born Nov. 20, 1927 in Northampton, Pa. to George John and Johanna (Bauer) Weber.
She is survived by a sister, Mitzi Stephan Kopfer of Austria; a daughter, Jo Ann (Raymond) Cantrell of Marengo; a son, George Fritz of Cardington; four grandchildren, Tari Clifton, Ralph Cantrell, Shawn Fritz, and Angela Nicole “Niki” Fritz; great-grandchildren, Stephanie Somerlot Fitch “Jamie”, Summer, Lindsay, Brittany, Mark, Hunter, Kennedy, Gabriel, and Jerimiah Clifton, Tyler Bailey, and Taylor Madison Cantrell; and great-great-grandchildren, Brandon and Caleb Eugene Fitch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter, in 2003; a brother, John; and a sister, Anna.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Neumann Church in Sunbury, 9633 Ohio 37E, with the Rev. David Sizemore as celebrant. Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery following the funeral mass. Arrangements are in charge of Robinson Funeral Home.
Norma Irene Grapes
Norma Irene Grapes, 89, of Sunbury, died Saturday (Nov. 26, 2005). She was a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Nurse Corp at Camp Atterbury, where she opened the first surgical unit during World War II. She was also a member of Maize Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving children, Linda (Kenneth) Bierkortte and Charles R. (Diana) Grapes II; grandchildren, Holly, Kelly and Brian; brothers, Earl Tallman of Belington, W. Va., and Kenneth Tallman of Lewisburg, W. Va.; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Grapes; parents, Ray and Rose Tallman; and brothers, Norman and Willard Tallman.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road, where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Union Cemetery.

Jerry L. Moore
Jerry L. Moore, 70, of Galena, died Sunday (Nov. 27, 2005) at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.
He was born Aug. 30, 1935 in Portsmouth to the late Everett and Pearl (Russell) Moore. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he moved to the Galena area in 1970 from Columbus. He retired in 1988 from the City of Columbus, where he worked as a foreman for the street department. He enjoyed golf, working on cars with his favorite being the Lincoln Mark II, but his family was most important in his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Alice (Clark); a daughter, Lora (Chris) Douglas of Centerburg; a son, Matt (Heidi) Moore of Galena; grandchildren, Ryan, Matthew, Nikki, Jenny, Jessica, Daniel and Christopher; a sister, Yvonne (Don) Powell; and brothers, Carl (Margaret) and Al Moore.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Red, Junior, Clarence and Kenny; and a sister, Betty Anderson.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, with his nephew Steve Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Galena Cemetery.

Dr. Douglas L. Smith
Dr. Douglas L. Smith, 87, of Delaware, died Sunday evening (Nov. 27, 2005) at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 14, 1918 in Akron to Thomas J. and Ethel M. (nee Douglas) Smith. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army veteran and a resident of Delaware since 1952. He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1942 from University of Akron and went on to graduate from the Case Western Reserve Medical College in 1951. He was a professor of allergy at Ohio State University College of Medicine for 20 years. He served the Delaware community in private practice as an allergist from 1952 until 1987. He was a member of the Delaware Benevolent and Protective Order of The Elks 76, was past president of the Delaware Rotary Club, and a member of the Delaware Country Club and the American Medical Association. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. A special thank you goes to the hospice nurses and the Angels Home Care Givers of Mount Gilead.
He is survived by a son, Doug (Marcella) of Sunbury; daughters, Jolie Moskel of Columbia, S.C., and Becky (Rick) Fair of Delaware; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Trudy Eberle of Cuyahoga Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha in 1988; a granddaughter Molly Moskel; a brother; and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Deb Patterson officiating. A reception will follow in the church’s Campbell addition.

Kenneth 'Dean' Van Brimmer Sr.
Kenneth 'Dean' Van Brimmer Sr., 88, died Saturday (Nov. 26, 2005).
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, to Joseph L. and Margaret (Goodman) Van Brimmer of Warrensburg. The youngest of four children, he lived most of his life on the family farm along the Scioto River and was well-known in the community for his generosity. Van Brimmer, who liked to work with his hands, built a home on the farm and renovated the farm house. Along with his wife, Louise, he rehabbed an old filling station on Franklin Street where Louise operated La Petite Beauty Salon.
He served in the Indian Head Division of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was deployed to Europe shortly after D-day and served in France and Czechoslovakia during the occupation. After the war, he worked as a mechanic at Suburban Motor Freight in Columbus. He retired in November 1982, after which he and Louise traveled throughout the United States, Canada and Alaska.
Dean and Louise loved being surrounded by their family. Their door was always open and wonderful holidays on the farm will live in the memories of their seven children, 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth Dean (Nina) Van Brimmer Jr., of Delaware; three daughters, Sandra (Richard) Mitchell of Ostrander, Sherry Dunn of Delaware and Denise Random of Grove City; three stepsons, Gene (Madelyn) Bauman of Marysville, Marion Baument of Seattle, and Frank (Terri) Bauman of Delaware; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise (Rife, Bauman) Van Brimmer; his parents; siblings; and many friends.
Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home, 92 N. Sandusky St., where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Newhouse Cemetery.
