Garth L. Fishero
Garth L. Fishero, 67, of Westerville, died suddenly Tuesday (Sept. 20, 2005).
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the Harlem Township Fire Department and was retired from NCR.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ruth; his children, Mike (Kim) Fishero of Westerville, Sheryl (Don) O’Neil of Centerburg and Jill Fishero (Will Hufford) of Williamsport; nine grandchildren; many other relatives in Hillsboro, Ind.; and his many friends at Bob Evans Restaurant on Huber Village Boulevard in Westerville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. James Brantingham officiating. Interment will be in Alum Creek Cemetery, Marengo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio State University Foundation, Andrew O’Neil SMA Research, Account No. 311538.

Robert L. McCarty
Robert L. McCarty, 72, of Marengo, died Sunday (Sept. 18, 2005) at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn., surrounded by his family.
He was born Sept. 18, 1933 in Marengo to the late Deltus and Mary A. (Babcock) McCarty. A 1951 graduate of Marengo High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he retired in 1991 after 39 years as a central foreman with Ohio Bell Telephone. He was a life member of American Legion Post 710, and held all of the office chairs for Post 710, District 6, and Department of Ohio, serving as state commander of American Legion Department of Ohio in 1986-87. He also served the Legion as an alternate for the national executive committee. He was a member of the 40/8 Voiture, GOVA, Buckeye Boys State Commission, AMVETS Post 87 and Marengo United Methodist Church. He served on the Veterans Services Commission for Morrow County and was a former Marengo village councilman. He was dedicated to fellow veterans and the American Legion, but family was always first in his life. He loved the Buckeyes, serving as an usher for both basketball and football home games. He enjoyed golfing, landscaping, vegetable gardening, and traveling to all 50 United States.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Grace “Joan” (Fisher) McCarty; his children, Cindy (Willie) McCurdy of Marengo, Keith (Pam) McCarty of Cardington and Van (Dave) Lehman of Sparta; nine grandchildren, Linda, Mandee, Kelly, Dana, Shaun, Dusty, Jason, Nichole and Dennis; five great-grandchildren, Alanna, Ryan, Jace, Cody and Dillon; brothers, Ben of Florida, Kenneth (Faye) of Fallon, Nev., and Paul (Lois) McCarty; and a sister, Vivian Matthews of Marengo.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Melvyn, in 1945.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Saturday with American Legion services at 4 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Bev Hall officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Galena Cemetery.

Margaret Maxine Shappard
Margaret Maxine Shappard, 81, of Delaware and formerly of Marion, died Tuesday (Sept. 20, 2005) at the Sarah Moore Health Care Center, Delaware.
She was born March 30, 1924 in Delaware to Walter and Grace Tatham Harsh. She graduated from Willis High School in 1943 and lived in Marion for many years before returning to Delaware in 2000. She was a retired unit clerk at Marion General Hospital. She was a member of Fairpark Baptist Church in Marion and Marion Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by a sister, Gladys Swan of Radnor; two nieces and their husbands, Sharon and Brent Baxter of Delaware and Kathy and David Cox of Radnor; three great nieces, Kirsten Baxter and Megan and Stacie Cox; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Jo Shappard of Stoutsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1999.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John Quist officiating. Interment will be in Radnor Cemetery.

Ellen L. Elliott
Ellen L. Elliott, 79, of Marengo, died Tuesday (Sept. 20, 2005). Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral services, to be held at 2 p.m. Friday at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 229, Marengo, with Pastor Rob Musick officiating. Interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery, near Sparta. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s Int., P.O. Box 832, Delaware, OH 43015.

L. Joyce Searles
L. Joyce Searles, 59, of Sunbury, died today (Sept. 21, 2005) at her residence following a brief illness. Arrangments will be announced by DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

Robert L. Buford
Robert L. Buford, 60, of Michigan and formerly of Delaware, died Sept. 22, 2005 at his home.
He was born Jan. 24, 1945 to the late Cordella (Hart) and Robert Buford and graduated from Hayes High School.
He is survived by two children, Dianna Buford of Delaware and Wesley Buford of Columbus; three grandchildren, Amy Russell, Drew Buford and Derrick Buford of Delaware; and numerous cousins, aunts and friends in Delaware.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Outreach Christian Center, 77 London Road.

James Nathan Howard
James Nathan Howard, 73, of Shawnee Hills, died unexpectedly Monday evening (Sept. 26, 2005) at his residence.
He was born April 4, 1932 in Wheelersburg, Ky., to John Howard and Moni (Castle) Howard. He retired from White Westinghouse in Columbus and enjoyed softball and watching baseball.
He is survived by a daughter, Monie Dgroat of Montana; an adopted daughter, Dana C. Howard of Shawnee Hills; a daughter-in-law, Katie Howard of Gahanna; three grandsons, Luke (Tiffany) Howard of Worthington, David (Michelle) Howard of Gahanna and Phillip Howard of Worthington; three great-grandchildren, Aiyanna Howard, Austin Jacobs and Samantha Howard; and two brothers, Eli (Peggy) Howard of Shawnee Hills and Jarvie (Rhonda) Howard of South Point.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Marie Howard, in 1998; and a son, Nathan James Howard.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home, 92 N. Sandusky St., handled the arrangements.

Clatie Ella H. Daniels
Clatie Ella H. Daniels, 87, of Delaware, died Oct. 23, 2005 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
She was born Feb. 8, 1918 in Honaker, Va., to Grover and Lula Robinson Harman. She graduated from Honaker High School in 1936. She was a retired assembler for Ranco Inc. She was a member of Eastside Mission Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Silas Griffith of Petersburg, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Maria Hurt of Brownsville, Texas; four grandchildren, Donna Herndon of Richmond, Va., Brian and Mike Hurt of Cardington and Corey Hurt of Mount Gilead; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Callie Moser and Myrtle Snead of Lebanon, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eastside Mission Church, with the Rev. Donnie Akers officiating.
Contributions may be made to Eastside Mission Church Building Fund with envelopes available at the church.
Arrangements are in charge of Robinson Funeral Home, 32 W. Winter St.

Elmer Eugene 'Gene' Hedges Sr.
Elmer Eugene 'Gene' Hedges Sr., 80, of Bradenton, Fla., and formerly of Delaware, died Monday (Oct. 31, 2005) in Bradenton. Arrangements will be announced by Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, Delaware.

Allan M. Lackey
Allan M. Lackey, 80, long-time area farmer and retired USDA resource specialist, died surrounded by his loving family, Monday (Nov. 21, 2005) at the Ohio State University Medical Center, of complications following treatment for acute lymphocytic leukemia.
He was born June 7, 1925, in Delaware County, the son of the late Glenn M. and Harriet (Birdie) Paschall Lackey, and the brother of the late Glenn Lackey of Red Bird Ranch, Ohio 329, Stewart. He was a 1950 graduate of Ohio State University. He retired from the U.S. Dept of Agriculture in 1973 after working 29 years for various conservation agencies in Ohio and Washington, D.C. Following retirement he chose to relocate to Athens County to be close to family and to pursue his first love, farming. He was a veteran of World War II, 40th Division 108th Infantry, serving in the Philippines and Korea, a member of Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp 125, and of American Legion Paschall Post 164, Grove City. He was a member of Canaanville United Methodist Church, recently updating their history for the newly published Athens County: The Second Century, 1905-2005. His abiding interests were family history and genealogy research; he was a member of the Ohio Historical Society, the Athens County Museum, the Ohio Genealogical Society and numerous county and state genealogical and family organizations. He served as a member of the Federal Hocking School Local Board, the Athens County School Board, and was former Carthage Township Republican Committeeman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Esther Jean Mayhew Lackey; son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda of Strongsville and their children, Alexander and Meredith and step-grandchildren, Emily and Benjamin; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Sherri of Millfield and their children, Maegan, Ryan, Gretchen, and James; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth Ann and Harald Scheid of Ashby, Mass., and their children, Kendall and Marina; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Stewart of Aliso Viejo, Calif. and their children Nikki and Sara; a daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Bill Dillon of Cumming, Ga., and their step-grandson, Matt Lipcsik; a sister-in-law, Lola Mae Simpson Kramer Lackey of Stewart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor James Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Canaanville Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Combined Color Guard.

Vinaida Karelina
Vinaida Karelina, 85, of Dublin, died Tuesday evening (Nov. 22, 2005) at her residents. Arrangements will be announced by Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home, Delaware.

Emerson William Klingensmith
Emerson William Klingensmith, 76 of Delaware, died Tuesday morning (Nov. 22, 2005) at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville. Arrangements will be announced by Rodman Bennett Brown Funeral Home, Delaware.

Betty Hamlin
Betty Hamlin, 47, of Galena, died Tuesday (Dec. 13, 2005) in her home after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.
She was born Aug. 8, 1958 to Edwin and Evelyn Elkin in Centerville. She graduated from Centerville High School in 1976 as an outstanding track and field athlete. She married Mahlon Hamlin in November 1993. Before moving back to Ohio, she worked for Kik Georgia, Siemens and Georgia-Pacific. She was active in several organizations, was APICS certified, a member of the James Cancer Center Brain Tumor Support Group, a member of the online brain tumor support group Caringbridge.org, a contributing author to the online CILOA, a Christian support group. She and Mahlon joined Lewis Center United Methodist Church on April 13, 2003, where she was a loyal and dedicated choir member.
She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Elkin of Centerville; her husband, Mahlon; daughters Amy (Jayson) Cluelow of Atlanta and Kelly Westmoreland of Galena; stepdaughters Amy (Matthew) Morgan of Atlanta and Sheri (Richard) Phillips of Atlanta; grandchildren, Hunter and John Cluelow, Hayley and Hayden Morgan and Shaw and Abby Phillips; and many loving friends.
She was preceded in death by her father.
The family will receive friends at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lewis Center United Methodist Church, 1081 Lewis Center Road, where a celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens with a private graveside service.
