Mava C. McLane Coss
Mava C. McLane Coss, 70, of Marengo, died Friday (July 3, 1998) morning at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Columbus on March 23, 1928, to the late Carl and Daisy M. (Dailey) Rhoads. She moved from Columbus to the Marengo area 20 years ago, and retired from Schottenstein's Department Stores, where she was an executive secretary, after more than 20 years. She wrote poetry, and had a book of poems published.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Wilbur McLane, who died on March 15, 1972, and Charles Coss, who died on Jan. 29, 1996; two brothers, Edwin and Carl Jr.; and one sister, Leona Reed.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert C. and Lois E. McLane of Pensacola, Fla., Roger E. McLane and Marta Capotosta of Columbus, and Timothy I McLane of Columbus; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy McLane and Steve Hess of Marengo; seven grandchildren, Robert, Eddie and Gillian McLane, Christine Barnes, Nick Treiber, and Joe and Tim Hess; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Rhoads of Columbus.
Visitation was at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury, where services were officiated by Father Mike Gribble. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery.
Chris K. Covert
Chris K. Covert, 66, Marengo, died Thursday (March 11, 1999) at his home.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1932, in Columbus to the late N.C. and Imo K. (Stierhoff) Covert. A 1950 graduate of Marengo High School, he was a lifelong farmer who also worked for HPM Corp., Mount Gilead, drove a truck for Producers Livestock and was an electrician. He also served as a Bennington Township trustee.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. (Dudley) Covert, whom he married on Jan. 12, 1960; a son, Chris B. Covert of Marengo; and a grandson, Christopher M. Covert.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Marengo. Funeral services were held at Fargo Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Tim Melling and Dale Long officiating. Burial was in Marengo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County.
Lloyd F. Cox
Lloyd F. Cox, 71, Galena, died Tuesday evening (August 27, 2002) at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville, following an extended illness.
Arrangements will be announced by DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
James Coyan
James H. Coyan III, 17, Columbus, died Monday (May 1, 2000) at Riverside Hospital.
He was born in Columbus on Feb. 7, 1983, to Donna J. Cremeans-Simms, Columbus, and James H. Coyan Jr., Cardington. He loved fishing, animals and children.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Brook Ann Coyan, Columbus; his fiance, Nicki Howell, Columbus; his stepfather, Donald Tracy Simms, Columbus; a half-sister, Kayla Coyan, Cardington; maternal grandparents, Mary and Ronald Cremeans, Caledonia; paternal grandparents, James and Daisy Coyan, Rush, Ky.; stepgrandmother, Joan Simms, Columbus; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours were held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. James Black officiating. Interment followed in Marengo Cemetery

Randall Craig
Randall Earl "Randy" Craig, 52, of Westerville fought a courageous battle with leukemia until he died at home on Saturday (June 22, 2002).
He was born on June 15, 1950, in Kenton. He was a member of the Big Walnut High School Class of 1968, where he was active in sports and attended Ohio University.
Randy was a lifelong Westerville and Sunbury area resident. He worked as a vice-president of marketing and sales for M/I Homes. He enjoyed golf and was involved in fund raising for the Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Earl Craig Sr., in 1980; and a brother, Richard Earl Craig, in 1962.
Surviving are his loving family and wife of 30 years, Barbara (Closz) Craig; three sons, Jason M., Eric R., and Ryan C., all of Westerville; his mother, Annabelle (Willeke) Craig; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Lynn Duffee; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Teresa Craig and Scott and Christine Craig of Sunbury; his in-laws, Charles and Norie Closz; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with chaplain Bob Brummel officiating. Interment was in Trenton Cemetery.

Ronald Cremeans
Ronald E. Cremeans Sr., 61, of Caledonia, died Wednesday morning (Aug. 9, 2000) at Marion General Hospital, Marion.
Born in Columbus on Oct. 14, 1938, to the late Othel and Opal (Linley) Cremeans, he lived in Caledonia for nine years, previously residing in Mt. Gilead, Marengo, and Sunbury. He was a retired maintenance worker for Glen-Gery Corp., Caledonia, and loved to fish and shoot guns. He loved animals, especially his dogs Queenie and Pokey, and his wild mustang, Red Pop.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, James H. Coyan III; and two brothers, Kenneth and David.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Mary (Black) Cremeans, whom he married on June 8, 1957; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald E. and Mary Cremeans Jr. of Cardington and James A. Cremeans of Caledonia and his fiancee, Brandi Wells; three daughters and sons-in-law, Diana L. and David Dudgeon of Mt. Gilead, Donna J. Cremeans-Simms and Tracy Simms of Columbus, and Jacqueline J. and Daniel Cassens of Clayton, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Michael and Lucille and John and Melissa Cremeans, all of Columbus, Roger Cremeans of Bucyrus, and Thomas and Karen Cremeans of Centerburg; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Larry Hansel and Barbara and Ted Snodgrass, all of Centerburg, and Bonnie and Bob Burkey of Chesterville.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held. Interment followed in the Marengo Cemetery.

Helen Crile
Helen G. Crile, 102 of Johnstown, formerly of Akron, died Tuesday (June 6, 2000) at Northview Senior Living Center.
Born on April 19, 1898, in Summit County to the late Roswell B. and Ossie P. (Pierson) Hopkins, she moved to Johnstown in 1992 from Akron. She was a homemaker and a school teacher in the Akron area for 25 years. She was a very accomplished violinist, a member of Ghent Christian Church in Akron, and was devoted to her music and her church.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Phyllis and Al Bortscheller of Akron and Carolyn P. Kohberger of Columbus; sons and daughters-in-law Wesley J. and Marian Crile of Deland, Fla., Gary R. and Joyce Crile of Summerfield., Fla. and James H. and Sandy Crile of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-granchildren; brother Ross Hopkins of Marietta, Ga., and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ford S. Crile in 1980; son Don P. Crile in 1983; three brothers and three sisters.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Graveside funeral services were held at Bath Center Cemetery in Bath.

Philip Michel Cring
Philip Michel Cring Sr., 62, Sunbury, died at home suddenly on Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2000).
He was born April 3, 1937, in Sunbury. He was a lifelong area resident, a 1955 graduate of Big Walnut High School and a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Berlin crisis in 1962. He attended Ohio University from 1956-1962.
He was a member of the National Press Photographers' Association at age 17, and was a freelance photographer who worked for numerous Columbus news media during the 1950s and '60s. He took his first nationally published photo of Jack Nicklaus for "Time" magazine. He was retired from refrigeration and computer services.
He is survived by sisters Mary Jean Myers, Pleasant Hill, Calif., and Rachel Edwards, Sunbury; a son, Philip Jr., Little Hocking; two grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents C. Howard and Florinel B. Cring.
Graveside services were held lat Sunbury Memorial Park. DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, assisted with arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Audubon Society.
Myrtle Crist
Myrtle Crist, 90, Marysville, died Monday evening (July 19, 1999) at the Sarah Moore Home.
She was born March 15, 1909, in Putnam County, W.Va., to Ira and Ida (Davis) Means.
Mrs. Crist is survived by four sons, Campbell C. Crist Sr., Marysville, Alvin of Delaware, David of Marion and Vernon of Sunbury; three daughters, Violet Blain, Apple Grove, W.Va., Elizabeth Woten.
Glenwood, W.Va., and Cheryl Barron, Brownsville, Texas; two brothers, Ira Means Jr., Wellsville, and Joseph Means, Powell; 34 grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Stevens, Apple Grove; and 51 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Jake Crist; two daughters, Dorothy and Clara; and three sisters, Clara, Raney and Dora Rae.
Visiting hours were at Bennett Brown Funeral Home, Delaware. Funeral services were at Grace Baptist Church, 3180 Ohio 37W, with the Rev. Corey Banes officiating. Burial was in Green Mound Cemetery, Kilbourne.
Florence Cross
Florence Cross, 92, of Croton, died Sunday (March 29, 1998) in Johnstown.
She was born in Johnstown on Jan. 15, 1906, to the late Orpha Mae (Duckworth) and Jess Kirts.
She had worked as a cashier at Hoovler's Red & White Store, and was a member of New Bethel Christian Union Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Cross, one brother, and a son.
Mrs. Cross is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Donna Cross of Delaware; a half sister, Jane Disbennett, of Ashville; granddaughters and their husbands Sharon and Bruce Smart and Deborah and John Tripp, all of Johnstown; her niece, Joy Neff, of Westerville; and great-grandchildren Sandy, Jessie, and Taylor Tripp, and Rusty and Christy Smart.
Services were at Crouse-Kauber Funeral Home, Johnstown, the Rev. Weldon Stockwell officiating. Burial was in Trenton Cemetery.
