Sammie T. Fletcher
Sammie T. Fletcher, 91, Sunbury, died Friday, January 24, 2003, at Morning View Care Center in Sunbury.
He was born on May 19, 1911, in Buchanan County, Virginia, to the late Charlie and Lucy (Cox) Fletcher. He was a lifelong Sunbury area resident and farmer who enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
Sammie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ethel M. (Grooms) Fletcher; three daughters, Nancy (Bob) Jackson of Milford Center, Helen Richardson of Pleasant Gardens, North Carolina, and Roberta (Bill) Morris of Sunbury; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and by six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Charlie Richardson; and by two brothers and four sisters.
Calling hours were held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held. Interment was in Galena Cemetery.

Margaret L. Fling
Margaret L. Fling, 90, Ashley, died Saturday (October 27, 2001) afternoon at her residence.
She was born in Danville on November 5, 1910 to the late Everett and Agnes (Behm) Bonnette. She was an active founding member and Pastor with the White Lily Chapel in Ashley. She loved painting, sewing, ceramics and reading.
Pastor Fling is survived by her two sons, Paul (Pamela) Fling of Howard, Colorado, and Robert (Linda) Ireland of Tucson, Arizona; by 18 grandchildren; and by 18 great-grandchildren. A brother, Pete Bonnette, survives in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wilber N. Fling, on July 25, 2001; three sons, George, Donald and Richard Ireland; two brothers; and by one sister.
Memorial services were held at the White Lily Chapel in Ashley with Reverend Jeffry Acker officiating. No calling hours were observed. Private burial was in Ashley Cemetery.
Arrangements were in care of the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

Max R. Fling
Max R. Fling, 49, Johnstown, died Wednesday (March 17, 1999). He had been battling cancer for some time.
Mr. Fling was pastor of Peachblow United Methodist Church, a member of Sunbury-Galena Rotary Club and a realtor for over 25 years.
A true family man, Mr. Fling is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Janelle (Martin) Fling, whom he married Jan. 3, 1969; two sons, Nathan and Zach, and one daughter, Tiffany, all at home; two special sons, Shannon Moore and Nathan Stein; his parents, William E., Sr., and Ruth (Fravel) Fling; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, William, Jr., and Ruth, Don and Sue and Allen and Pam; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Arlene Netzorg and Donna and Glenn Evans, all Johnstown; 20 nieces and nephews; and many aunts and uncles.
Calling hours were held at Peachblow UMC, Lewis Center. Funeral services were at New Hope United Methodist Church, Galena, with the Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Burial followed in Fancher Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

Robert F. Fling
Robert F. Fling, 90, Centerburg, passed away Wednesday (February 21, 2001) at home. He was born in Hocking County on September 15, 1910 to Clifford and Dora Fling.
Fling was a retired school bus driver for 36 years, a substitute mail carrier for 26 years and former owner of the Marathon Station in Centerburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers, a son Forest Roger Fling and a grandson Robert M. Fling.
Fling is survived by his wife, Opal Walker Fling; two sons, Kenneth of Zanesville and Richard of Florida; five daughters, Jeanette Updike, Linda (Gordon) Houck and Phyllis (Jim) Sipes of Centerburg, Ruth (Jack) Welker of Mount Vernon and Maxine (Clyde) Neighbarger of Utica; 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; a sister, Dora Grove of Westerville; two brothers, William Fling of Johnstown and Raymond Fling of Westerville; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was at Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, Centerburg, where services were held with Evangelist Fred Albrecht officiating. Interment was in Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg. Friends, if they wish may contribute to Hospice of Knox County or to The Central Ohio Fire District, Centerburg 43011.
Ruth Fling
H. Ruth Fling, 82, Johnstown, died Wednesday (April 5, 2000) at Kobacker House, Columbus.
She was born in Harlem Township on Oct. 8, 1917, to the late Floyd and Caroline (Budd) Fravel.
A lifelong resident of the area and a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, Ruth also attended Peachblow United Methodist Church. Her many activities included volunteering for religious education, the United Way, the American Cancer Society and collecting for the Harlem Township Fire Department at its inception.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, William "Bill" E. Fling Sr., whom she married on Oct. 23, 1936; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Jr. and Ruth, Don and Sue and Allen and Pam, all of Johnstown; a daughter-in-law, Janelle Fling, Johnstown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Arlene Netzorg and Donna and Glenn Evans, all of Johnstown; a brother, Walter Fravel, Galena; a sister, Esther Fravel, Galena; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Max R. Fling on March 17, 1999; a daughter, Florence Fling on April 27, 1956; four brothers, Richard, David, Jim and Allen; and one sister, Emma Miesse.
Calling hours were held at New Hope UMC, Galena. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Interment followed in Fancher Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

Wilber N. Fling
Wilber N. Fling, 94, Ashley, died Wednesday (July 25, 2001) at his residence.
He was born in Lancaster on May 1, 1907 to the late John and Mary (Burch) Fling. He retired from Denison Engineering in 1969 as a foreman with 30 years of service.
Fling was a resident of Ashley for 56 years after moving to the area from Marengo. He was a founding and active member of White Lily Chapel in Ashley. He enjoyed gardening, church, reading and making jewelry.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret L. (Bonnette) Fling whom he married June 6, 1941, in Delaware; by a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Pamela Fling of Howard, Colorado; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Robert and Linda Ireland of Tucson, Arizona; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Fling was preceded in death by three stepsons, George, Donald and Richard Ireland, two brothers and one sister.
Memorial services were held at White Lily Chapel, Ashley with the Reverend Jeffry Acker officiating. No calling hours were observed. Private interment was at Ashley Union Cemetery. Arrangements were in care of DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

William E. "Bill" Fling
William E. "Bill" Fling, 95, Johnstown, died Wednesday morning (January 16, 2002) at Edgewood Manor, Westerville.
He was born June 19, 1906, in Marion, to Clifford and Dora (Gast) Fling. A 1928 graduate of Ashley High School, he had been a Harlem Township resident for 78 years. He was a farmer and insurance agent for the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation for 60 years and Nationwide Insurance for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
Mr. Fling was president of the Central Ohio Milk Producers and director of the Ohio Dairymen's Association. He was a member of Harlem Road United Methodist Church and attended Peachblow United Methodist Church, where his son Max Fling, had been pastor.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, William Jr., Don and Sue, and Allen and Pam Fling, all of Johnstown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Arlene Netzorg and Donna and Glenn Evans, all of Johnstown; a daughter-in-law, Janelle Fling, of Johnstown; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Fling of Harlem; a sister and brother-in-law, Dora Mae and Delno Grove of Westerville; a sister-in-law, Opal Fling; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives; and a host of friends.
His wife, H. Ruth (Fravel) Fling, whom he married October 23, 1936, died April 5, 2000, and a son, Max R. Fling, died March 17, 1999. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Florence Fling; three brothers, Robert, Leroy and Clifford; and a sister, Mary Green.
Visiting hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held at Harlem Road United Methodist Church, 5520 Harlem Road, with Pastors Bud Leskovac and David Netzorg officiating.
Burial was in Fancher Cemetery.

James Fravel
James L. Fravel, 79, Westerville, died Sunday (Oct. 24, 1999) at St. Ann's Hospital.
Retired from McNally Lumber Co. and formerly employed by Teachout Sash & Door Co., Columbus, Mr. Fravel was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 335th Army Engineers. He was a member of American Legion Young Budd Post 171, Westerville, and New Hope Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances E. Fravel; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James F. and Janet Fravel, Whitehall, and John Fravel, Westerville; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Millie Fravel, Galena; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Esther Fravel, Galena, and Ruth and William Fling Sr., Johnstown; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Carrie Fravel; three brothers, Allen, David and Richard; and a sister, Emma Miesse.
Calling hours were held at Moreland Funeral Home, Westerville. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Interment was in Maplewood Cemetery.
Richard Fravel
Richard Fravel, 78, of Westerville, died Wednesday (March 25, 1998) at St. Ann's Hospital.
He was a retired mechanic for the Westerville City Schools and a charter member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Harlem. As a veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division in WWII, he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star. He was also a member of the American Legion Young-Budd Post No. 171 and Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elinor Fravel; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Vicky Fravel; grandsons Craigh and Ian Fravel, all of Westerville; sisters Esther Fravel of Galena and Ruth Fling of Johnstown; brothers Walter of Galena and James of Westerville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Caroline Fravel; a sister, Emma Miesse; brothers Allen and David Fravel; and two infant daughters and two infant sons.
Services were held at the Moreland Funeral Home, where the Rev. Max Fling officiated. Interment was in Fancher Cemetery.
Helen Freeman
Helen E. Freeman, 88, of Delaware died Wednesday afternoon (Nov.4, 1998) at Arbors N.H.
She was born on Sept. 2, 1910 in Brown Township to Leo and Edith (Pettet) Roof. She was the clerk for Brown Township from 1944 to1975, and was a farm wife. She was a life-long Delaware County resident and member of the Kilbourne United Methodist Church, Kilbourne Child Study Club, Big Run Farm Bureau Council, and a graduate of Brown High School.
Mrs. Freeman is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Fuller of Delaware; son and daughter-in-law, James and Barbara Freeman D.D.S. of Dayton; five grandchildren and their spouses, Cindy and Paul Parker, Julie Freeman, Jill and Jeremiah Allen, Dr. Ray and Karen Fuller, and Randall and Sharon Fuller; three great-grandchildren Tyler Allen, Kenneth Fuller, and Sarah Parker; and two sisters-in-law, Ersel Roof of Delaware and Evelyn Freeman of Powell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth on Jan. 13, 1994; and one brother, Walter Roof.
Visitation was held at the Bennett-Brown-Rodman Funeral Home in Delaware, where funeral services were held with the Rev. Donna VanTrees officiating.
