Donald Elliot Pilkington
Donald Elliot Pilkington, 87, Marengo, died at his home Thursday (Nov. 30, 2000) following an extended illness.
A former Columbus resident, Pilkington was born on Jan. 8, 1913 in Richwood to the late Henry and Abogal (Tippet) Pilkington. He moved to Marengo in 1995 from Columbus where he retired from Columbus Coated Fabric/Borden after 41 years. He was also employed by American Securities.
Pilkington was a member of the Marengo Church of Christ and enjoyed hard work, baseball, bowling and horse racing.
He is survived by his wife Eileen (Satterfield) Pilkington whom he married Jan. 20, 1966; sons Donald (Chick), Jim (Sally) and Fred (Annetta) Pilkington, all of Grove City, and Ronald (Rebecca) Pilkington of Marengo; stepsons Jerry Lee (Jan) Stewart of Gahanna and Jon (Priscilla) Welker of Sunbury; stepdaughters Jacque (Len) Weatherby of Sunbury, Sylvia Darlene Welker of Marengo and Rhonda Welker of Columbus; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers Jim (Dorothy) Pilkington and Chris (Marilyn) Pilkington of Columbus; and nieces and nephews.
Pilkington was preceded in death by seven brothers, including Fred, Forrest, Bob, Virgil, Charles, Neil and Ralph and by two sisters, Cella and Zelpha.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury where services were held. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery, Centerburg.

Charles W. Pinkerman
Charles W. Pinkerman, 63, died Thursday (April 5, 2001) at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville. He was born August 28, 1937 in Gallia County, Ohio to the late Hillis and Elva M. Holley Pinkerman. He attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Pinkerman is survived by a brother, Morgan Jennings Pinkerman, and four sisters, Geraldine DeWitt of Sunbury, Vera Small of Logan, Betty Lou Gates of Gallipolis and Adele Ashley of Marysville.
Visitation and serviced were held at the Willis Funeral Home, Gallipolis. The eulogy was delivered by his sister Vera Small. Interment was in Providence Cemetery, Gallipolis.

Chuck Plummer
Charles G. "Chuck" Plummer, 83, Galena, died early Friday morning (March 17, 2000) at Village of Westerville.
He was born March 25, 1916, in Ashville, to the late William and Catherine Plummer.
He moved to Galena 52 years ago from Shawnee Hills. He was lifelong owner and operator of Plummer & McDannald Water Well Drilling Co. He was a member of Galena United Methodist Church and Sunbury Conservation Club. He was a gun collector and an outdoorsman, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching westerns.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ellen (Glick); two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosalie and Bruce McDannald, Escondido, Calif., and Barbara and Allan Jeffers, Westerville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was proceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Harold, Arthur and Sam; and one sister, Eva.
Calling hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Interment was at Dublin Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Big Walnut Friends Who Share, P.O. Box 424, Sunbury, or Galena United Methodist Church, 121 Harrison Street, Galena.

Richard W. Plummer
Richard W. Plummer Sr., 76, of Sunbury, died on Sunday morning (July 12, 1998) at Altercare of Westerville following an extended illness.
Born in Bloomington, Ind., on April 23, 1922, to the late Burt and Mary (Brown) Plummer, he was a retired carpenter for J.J. Morgan and the founder of Plummer Service Stations at Ohio 95 and I-71, founded in 1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Marengo. He moved to Sunbury from Morrow County two years ago.
Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Mary L. (Petrich) Plummer, whom he married on April 24, 1947; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Jr. and Janet, and Raymond and April, all of Mount Gilead, and Randy and Kathy of Marengo; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Rick Franks of Sunbury; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty Yates of Colorado Springs, Colo., Effie Coots of Campellsburg, Ind., and Ethel Allen of Mitchell, Ind.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Caddes on May 31, 1982; a brother, Lindy McLaughlin; and a sister, Mabel Strickland.
Visitation was held at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral services were at Gethsemane Baptist Church and were officiated by the Rev. Joe Blevins. Burial followed in Marengo Cemetery with military graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 3875 County Road 217, Marengo, OH, 43334.

Anna Polivka
Anna S. Polivka, 89, of Johnstown and formerly of Bridgeport, died Sunday morning (December 30, 2001) at Northview Senior Center, Johnstown. Mrs. Polivka is the mother of local minister the Reverend Carol Weiss.
She was born in St. Clairsville on April 20, 1912, to the late Joseph and Marie (Erba) Vild. She was a homemaker, and moved to Johnstown from the Bridgeport valley in February 1995. She was a member of Rock Hill Presbyterian Church and the Rock Hill Quilters.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Albert Polivka, who passed away in 1994; four brothers, Charlie, Jerry, Frank and Louie Vild; and two sisters, Fannie Donda and Bessie Lattocha.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Allan and Percan Polivka of Pueblo, Colorado; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marjorie and George Strom of Elyria, the Reverend Mrs. Carol and Wayne Weiss of Sunbury and Barbara and David Omerod of Charlotte, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Traci, Brigette, Brett and Lucas; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Payne and John Henry; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Saturday at Condit Presbyterian Church with her daughter, the Reverend Carol Weiss, officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in High Ridge Cemetery, Belmont County. Arrangements are in the care of DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Condit Presbyterian Church, 15102 Hartford Road, Sunbury 43074.

Helen "Faye" Porter
Helen "Faye" Porter, 80, Marengo, died at home Saturday (Sept. 18, 1999) following a brief illness.
She was born June 26, 1919, in Webbville, Ky., to the late John and Ida (Berry) Thompson. Faye was a homemaker and moved to the Marengo area in 1968 from Columbus.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Ina George, Gambier, and Marilyn and Ed
Carson, Centerburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Porter, Mesa, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ralph Porter, in 1996; a daughter, Carol Murray, in 1995; and several brothers and sisters.
Calling hours were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury where funeral services were held. Graveside services were held Wednesday at Porter Cemetery in Grayson, Ky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Morrow County Hospice, P.O. Box 86, Mount Gilead, 43338.

Pauline Porter
Pauline L. Steahly Porter, 91, Sunbury, formerly of Portsmouth, died Saturday (November 10, 2001).
She was a member of the Scioto County Historical Society and the 1810 House Museum and attended All Saints Episcopal Church in Portsmouth.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald Kinney Porter, and a sister, Philomena George.
Surviving are her two daughters and son-in-law, Robertine J. and Richard Logan, Sunbury, and Linda L. Timberlake, Naperville, Illinois; five grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Ann Logan and Kevin and Teresa Logan, all of Columbus; Jennifer (Logan) and John Lieurance, Sunbury; and Shari and Stephanie Timberlake, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and four great-grandchildren.
There was no visitation. Services were held at All Saints Church on Tuesday with interment in the Kinney Circle at Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth.

Ruth Potter
Ruth Jean Potter, 79, of Centerburg, died Friday (March 23, 2001) at Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
A devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, she retired from Nestles of Sunbury after 40 years. She was a member of the Centerburg American Legion Auxiliary Post.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Nellie Edwards; and a grandson, Terry L. Potter.
Surviving are her loving husband of 63 years, Merle R. Potter; a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon L. and Patricia Potter of Croton; three grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Douglas and Lucinda Potter of Ostrander and Wayne and Dean Potter, both of Centerburg; a granddaughter-in-law, Debbie Potter of St. Louisville; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Don Clem of Ft. Myers, Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Lola Edwards of Westerville and Raymond and Sally Edwards of Sarasota, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held at Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, Centerburg, where services were held with the Reverend Dan Hamilton officiating. Interment was in Eastview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hartford Fire Department, Croton 43013.

Lewis M. "Oakie" Potts
Lewis M. "Oakie" Potts, 81, Galena, died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) afternoon at Morning View Care Center, Sunbury.
He was born in Duffy, Ohio on January 9, 1920 to the late Walter and Elizabeth (Longwell) Potts. After leaving Duffy, he lived in the Galena area since 1955.
Potts retired from the Galena Post Office in 1991 after 42 years of service as a mail carrier. After his retirement, he also worked for Berkshire Township and Bank One in Westerville. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
He was an active member of Galena United Methodist Church as well a member of the Sunbury Evening Lions Club and a Grand Noble of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Potts enjoyed bowling and sports, especially the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians. He umpired for Little League baseball and softball at the Galena Park.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bernice (Quinn) Potts whom he married November 14, 1939 in Martinsville, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Linda Potts of Galena; two granddaughters, Michele (James) Cox of Sunbury and Jada Potts of Oklahoma; and two, brothers Jones of Shanahan, Illinois and Merle of Duffy, Ohio.
Potts was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Bud and Walter Jr; and by five sisters, Lavina, Margaret, Lowella, Martha and Mary.
Visitation was at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with the Reverend Sue Antolik and Pastor Wayne Booth officiating. Interment with military honors followed in Galena Cemetery.

Viola Potts
Viola M. Potts, 79, Galena, died Sunday (May 28, 2000) evening at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville.
She was born in Galena on February 11, 1921 to the late Kenneth and Grace (Bennett) Carpenter. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Galena.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Dora and Merle Taylor of Zanesville, Joyce and Arden Knight of Navarre, and Velma and Marshall Hicks of Sunbury; son and daughter-in-law Verle and LouAnne Potts of Marengo; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister an brother-in-law Gladys and Byron Strader of Union, Ky. and daughter-in-law Margie Bowen of Galena.
She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Webster F. "Bud" Potts on July 29, 1999 and son David Potts on April 6, 1978.
Calling hours were at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held with Tim Vaughn and Dennis Falb officiating. Interment followed in the Galena Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Carmel Hospice, 793 W. State Street, Columbus, 43222.
