Earnest Schoenberger
Earnest M. "Ernie" Schoenberger, 66, formerly of Delaware, died Wednesday (October 9, 2002) in Columbus.
He was born in St. Albans, West Virginia, on September 23, 1936. A member of the Iron Workers Local 172, he was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 376.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jim and Marie (Elmore) Prather; and one brother, Joseph.
Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Laureen Schoenberger of Centerburg and Earnest and Suella Schoenberger of Fulton; a daughter, Sherry Schoenberger of Sunbury; eight grandchildren; his former wife, Polly Schoenberger of Sunbury; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jerry of Columbus; and a sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Don Taylor of Somerset, Kentucky.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with Pastor J.R. Smith officiating.
Interment followed in Berkshire Cemetery.
Betty J. Schoonover
Betty J. Schoonover, 71, of Sunbury, died Monday evening (July 13, 1998) at Mount Carmel East Medical Center following an extended illness.
She was born April 33, 1927 in Columbus to the late William and Alice (Schaffer) Fleck. The homemaker was a Sunbury-area resident since 1959, and had worked as a nurse's aide.
Mrs. Schoonover is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Harlan J. Schoonover; daughter and son-in-law Debra and Ronald Boggs of Croton; sons and daughter-in-law Willard of Gahanna, Robert of Johnstown, Thomas of Marengo, and Mike and Cindy of Kettering; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Ralph and Maxine Fleck of Gahanna, William and Sharon Fleck of Nebraska, Donald and Joanne Fleck of Columbus, and Thelma Nuckles of Worthington; sister and brother-in-law Ida and Herb Parliament of Columbus; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earl, and a sister, Edith Ahern.
Services were at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury, with her son, Mike Schoonover, officiating. Interment was in Trenton Cemetery.

L. Merlin Schroeder
L. Merlin Schroeder, 81, of Marion and formerly of Marengo, died Friday morning (November 16, 2001) at Sunbridge Care Facility, Marion.
He was born on June 27, 1920, in Beloit, Wisconsin, to the late Charles and Julia (Hackett) Schroeder, and was a veteran of the United States Army in World War II. Lewis moved to Marion in 1997 from Marengo, and worked as an outreach liaison for Seniors on Center, Mount Gilead, for 10 years and had owned and operated the former Village Shoppe, Marengo, for 16 years.
He was a member of the Church of Christ, Marion; Ambassadors Sunday school class; and the American Legion Post No. 97, Cardington.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Cutts, Hazel Bradenburg and Vivian Stickler Garde.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Mary Alice Davis Webb Schroeder; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Debbie Schroeder of Walworth, Wisconsin, and Gary and Eva Schroeder of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; a daughter, Trudie Ernest of Redwing, Minnesota; four stepsons and spouses, Tom and Zeenat Webb of Delaware, Terry Webb of Orient, Bob and Lori Webb of Columbus, and Mark and Tammi Webb of Huber Heights; a stepdaughter and spouse, Kim and Curt Grau of Duncan, South Carolina.; 29 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, H. Wayne Schroeder of Beloit, Illinois; and 45 foster children.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with Pastor Phil Williams officiating. Interment, with military honors, was in Bloomfield Cemetery, Sparta.
Kenneth W. Schultz
Kenneth W. Schultz, 59, of Westerville, a former Big Walnut High School teacher and coach, died Sunday (Aug. 2, 1998) at St. Ann's Hospital, Westerville.
He was the son of Walter and Carrie Schultz.
Mr. Schultz was a manufacturing representative for Ohio Timekeeping Systems. He was a graduate of Olentangy High School and Otterbein College and played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers. He was a hitting instructor at Grand Slam USA and was an avid left-handed golfer. He also was a member of the Otterbein "O" Club.
Surviving are his wife, Sandie; a daughter, Heather Schultz of Monroe, La.; a son, Thad Schultz of Columbia, S.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Donna Jean and Dick Shaw of Ashland; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Tonya and Bill Adams of Xenia and Beverly and Tom Flannery of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Schultz.
Visiting hours were at Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, where a funeral service was held with the Rev. Dr. Richard Ellsworth officiating. Burial was in Blendon Central Cemetery.

Roderick Scott
Roderick D. "Rod" Scott, 67, Galena, died Sunday (Sept. 26, 1999) at his residence.
Born in Oklahoma City on April 13, 1932, to the late Walter and Virginia (Duncan) Scott, he was a retired executive with the former Jeffrey Manufacturing, Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marilyn (Amerine) Scott, whom he married on March 16, 1951, in Columbus; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roderick and Ellyn Scott and Gregory Scott, all of Centerburg; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Scott, Grove City, and Jennifer and Larry Lockhart, Marysville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Marshal and Patricia Scott and Richard and Faithe Scott, all of Columbus; a sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Stephen Snyder, Holland, Mich.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held with the Rev. Carol Weiss officiating.
Helen E. Shade
Helen E. Shade, 87, Westerville, started her new journey with her husband of 66 years, Albert J. Shade Sr. on May 31, 2001.
She was a member of Minerva Park United Methodist Church and Greater Columbus Emmaus Community. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Robert Morris Chapter #372.
Helen was the loving mother of Albert J. (Rita) Shade Jr. of Columbus and Barbara (Clyde) Wright of Sunbury. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Albert J. (Faith) Shade III, Lori (Greg) Wentzel, Kim (Don) Mann, Scott (Grethe) Holdren and Philip (Diane) Holdren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a special sister, Wilma Longhino of Columbus; a brother, Albert R. Cochrun of Arizona; nieces and nephews, including Cindy Shoup and Barry Longhino; and was "Grandma Helen" to numerous youth at Marion Youth Facility.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Cochrun.
Visitation was at Moreland Funeral Home, Westerville. An Eastern Star Service was held. Services were held at Minerva Park United Methodist Church, Columbus with the Reverend Scott Waibel officiating. Private interment.
Gary Shannon
Gary D. Shannon, 52, of Sunbury, died Sunday (July 14, 2002) at his home.
He was born on August 8, 1949, in Sunbury to Donald R. and Alma K. (McKenzie) Shannon of Sunbury. A lifelong area resident, he was a member of the Big Walnut High School Class of 1967 and was a graduate of Franklin University. A sales engineer for Tru Tec Industries, he was very proud of his children and enjoyed participating in their activities. Gary was an Eagle Scout, a member of Bremen Lodge F&AM, and Harlem Road United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Shalva and Teri Kakabadze of Columbus; two sons, Isaac R. and Colt N. Shannon of Washington Courthouse; two grandchildren, Keagen and Philip; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kathy and John Whittington of Galena and Marsha Seawell of Columbus; and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Funeral services were held at Harlem Road United Methodist Church with Pastor Bud Leskovac officiating.

Edward Sheets
Edward J. Sheets, 76, of Galena, died at home early Saturday morning (July 20, 2002).
He was born on June 6, 1926, to the late Edward and Velma McElwee Sheets. A United States Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he worked for Columbus Fire Department, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and retired from AT&T.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Long and Sunny Mann.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Joan (Hall) Sheets; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy Crowl and Cindy and Ken Fox; his grandchildren, John, Stephanie, Melissa, Joe, and Stacy; a sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Earl Lechler; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Fred and Martha Sheets and Mike Sheets; and his nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Ed's wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements are in the care of DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

Clarence Shelton
Clarence B. "C.B." Shelton, 95, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 1998) at his home in Roanoke, Va.
Born Feb. 18, 1903, in Buchanan County, Va., he was the oldest child of Lemuel V. and Elizabeth (Cook) Shelton.
A graduate of Hargrave Military Academy, he had a long career as a logger, farmer, orchardist, coal miner, and carpenter in Virginia and Ohio. A Master Mason, he was a member of the Mountain Home Lodge, Stuart, Va., since 1939. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sparta, where he lived from 1944 to 1968, and of the Fleming Chapel of Roanoke. Mr. Shelton life member of the NRA and of the Isaak Walton League of Roanoke. During his retirement, he participated for 10 years in the Roanoke Valley March of Dimes Walk-a-thon, nine years of which he was the oldest walker attending.
He and his wife volunteered for a variety of community projects. His favorite pastime was cutting firewood for himself and his neighbors. He loved the outdoors, he loved to work, and he loved to relive his many experiences with those he loved the most, especially his family and his friends.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Deskins and Virginia Mutter; three brothers, Alva Addison, Jay Addison, and Gilbert Addison; and by his wife of 37 years, Virgie (Addison) Shelton.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Mary Viola (Naff) Shelton; a daughter, Jean Taylor of Masury; a son, Phillip Shelton of Wise, Va.; three step-daughters, Arline Stratton of Maidens, Va., Nareta Harris of Roanoke, and Peggy Jean Hazelwood of Glen Allen, Va.; two step-sons, Glen Naff and Gayle Naff, both of Roanoke; two sisters, Hattie Keene of Grundy, Va., and Margaret Knouff of Pataskala; a brother, Albert Addison of Portal, Ariz.; five grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Marengo, where an informal memorial service was also held. Interment was in Marengo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Carol Sherbourne
Carol K. Sherbourne, 54, of Sunbury, died late Friday evening (July 6, 2001) at Kobacker House, Columbus.
She was born on Dec. 21, 1946, in Columbus, the daughter of John J. and Marjorie (McElwee) Cook, who survive near Johnstown.
A member of the Big Walnut High School Class of 1964, she worked as a travel agent with AAA in Delaware and was a former bookkeeper for Sunbury Auto Parts.
Carol loved animals, was a past matron of the Columbia Chapter No. 33 OES, a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post No. 8736, Sunbury.
She was a loving wife to her high school sweetheart and husband of 35 years, Bill Sherbourne, who survives in Sunbury. Also surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Michelle Sherbourne of Johnstown; her daughter, Caryn Stith of Sunbury; grandchildren Cale Sherbourne and Mitchell and Macy Stith; two sisters, Linda (Si) O'Quinn of Johnstown and Deborah Kirkendall of Center Village; her nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Alice Sherbourne of Sunbury.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, William O. Sherbourne, who died in 1982.
Visitation was held at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where funeral services were held with Father Rod Depitro officiating. Interment was in Sunbury Memorial Park.
