Richard “Rick” Burson
Richard “Rick” Burson, 47, Centerburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, April 25, 2006.
A graduate of Centerburg High School Class of 1977, he was born on January 6, 1959, in Mt. Gilead and had attended the Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. He worked as a public relations officer in the communications department of the Ohio Bureau of Workman’s Compensation, writing various work related safety articles. Rick was also a sportswriter/columnist for The Sunbury News, The Delaware Gazette and The Centerburg Gazette.
He was a baptized believer and lifetime member of the Centerburg Church of Christ. He had been a youth sports and little league coach for 16 years. Rick was currently coaching his sons’ 7- and 8-year-old coach pitch-team. He loved playing softball and reading historic literature. A proud supporter and participant of any of his boys’ activities. Humble, but firm in his values with a dry sense of humor, he was always loyal to his family and friends.
Rick is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Graves); sons, Jordan, Ethan and David; his mother, Barbara (Mahan) Burson; sisters, Martie (Jon) Conklin and Brenda (Brad) Grandstaff, all of Centerburg; parents-in-law, David and Gloria Graves; sister-in-law, Tracey Graves of Mount Vernon; brother-in-law, Travis (Janice) Graves of Bedford; and by three nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Richard D. Burson, in 2003.
Calling hours were Friday (April 28, 2006) at the Centerburg Church of Christ, 3830 South Columbus Road (Ohio 3), Centerburg, where services were held Saturday (April 29, 2006) with Pastors Roger Crego and Fred Albrecht officiating.
Interment was in Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury.

John Robert Wilson
John Robert Wilson, After an adventurous 89 years of cultivating plants, people, and relationships around the world, John Robert Wilson, died of Lakeridge, Virginia, on April 6, 2006. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Barker Wilson. He is survived by three children, John, Bill and Christine Wilson, four grandchildren, Heidi, Mike, Jeff and Tara, five great grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Katie, Brady and Cody.
Born March 17, 1917, he grew up on the family farm east of Sunbury. A graduate of Ohio State University, he served as a captain in the field artillery in the Philippines during World War II. He taught high school in Johnstown and moved back to Sunbury in 1949 working a farm as well as for the Ohio Hybrid Seed company. While in Sunbury, he taught Sunday School classes for young adults at the Methodist church and was an active Mason in Sparrow Lodge.
In 1954, he joined the foreign service in the aid program. He and the family moved to Pakistan. He later worked in Turkey, Afghanistan, Washington, DC and on assignment in other countries.
The funeral and memorial services were held Tuesday, April 11, 2006. Burial will be at National Memorial Park at a later date.

Ruth K. DeVore
Ruth K. DeVore, 79, Marengo, passed away at home Monday morning, May 1, 2006.
Calling hours were Wednesday (May 3, 2006) at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services will follow today (Thursday, May 4) at 11 a.m., with Pastors Aaron S. Evans, Okie Evans, Jasper Marcum, Earnest Surgener and Bishop John D. Childers officiating.
Additional calling hours will be observed Friday (May 5, 2005) evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Home in West Liberty, Kentucky. Graveside services will follow Saturday (May 6, 2006) at 11 a.m. at the Lewis and Howard Cemetery in West Liberty, Kentucky, with Pastor Gary Fields and Evangelist Eugene Haney officiating.

Ann C. Hackworth
Ann C. Hackworth, 92, Westerville, died Friday, November 10, 2006, at Bennington Glen, Marengo.
She was a member of the Linden Baptist Church, Harlem Grange, Harlem Garden Club and Columbus Chapter #33 O.E.S. of Sunbury.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Hackworth.
She is survived by daughters Shirley (Willard) Simpson of Westerville, Carol (Stanley) Mowrey of Sunbury and Connie (Larry) Kuntzman of Lakeview, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and by several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held Monday (November 13, 2006) at the Moreland Funeral Home, Westerville, where services were held Tuesday (November 14, 2006) with the Reverend Hugh G. Snepp officiating.
Interment followed in Fernwood Cemetery.

Cheli Lynette Agler
Cheli Lynette Agler, 42, Galena, died Saturday, November 11, 2006, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
She was employed at D.C.B.B. in Delaware and at Petland in Lewis Center. She did volunteer work for Wildlife Association and the Humane Society of Delaware County. She was a member of the Vineyard Church of Delaware County in Sunbury, affiliated with the American Indian Association and was a graduate of Big Walnut High School.
Cheli is survived by her loving son, Jamey Baisden; her parents, James and Darlene (Clark) Agler of Galena; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harmon and Della Clark and Hamer and Lucille Agler.
Calling hours were held Monday (November 13, 2006) at Moreland Funeral Home, Westerville. Visitation as also be held one hour prior to services on Tuesday (November 14) at Vineyard Church of Delaware County with Pastor Mike Kienapple officiating.
Interment followed at Sunbury Memorial Park.

Irene Chadwick
Irene Chadwick, 74, of the Sunbury and Galena area, died Sunday afternoon November 12, 2006, at her residence.
She was born on October 27, 1932, in Greenup, Kentucky, to the late Walter T. Smith and Martha (Garris) Schaefer. Irene was a faithful and diligent member of the True Bible Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening and her flowers. Irene’s greatest accomplishment in life was her family and she was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Irene is survived by daughters, Martha (Frank) Kirk of Mount Vernon, Rita (Jim) Longshore of Center Village and Mabel (Scott) Engert of Centerburg; sons, Don (Margie) Bernard of Sparta and Greg (Holly) Chadwick of Centerburg; step-daughters, Ruth (Arthur) Burton of Del Ray Beach, Florida, and Mary (Larry) Carmen of Gahanna; step-son, John Chadwick of Shady Cove, Oregon; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; brothers, Jack (Joyce) Smith of Westerville and Robert Schaefer of Annapolis, Maryland; sister, Patsy Marsiglia of Westerville; and by her dearest and best friend, Iva Shaw, Sunbury.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald S. “Pete” Chadwick; son, Dale “Squirrel” Bernard; and a step-daughter, Alice Kenny.
Calling hours were Tuesday (November 14, 2006) at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held Wednesday (November 15, 2006) with J.R. Smith and Frank Kirk officiating.
Interment will follow in the Berkshire Cemetery.
Roberta J. “Bobby” Showers
Roberta J. “Bobby” Showers, 81, lifelong resident of Orange Township, Galena, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.
Friends may call today (Thursday, November 16, 2006) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, and one hour prior to the funeral services Friday (November 17, 2006) at 11 a.m. at the Berlin Presbyterian Church, 5175 South Old State Road, Lewis Center, with Pastor Rick Negley officiating.
Burial will follow in Africa Cemetery.

Glenna R. Yarber
Glenna R. Yarber, 69, Columbus, died unexpectedly Monday, January 1, 2007, at her residence. She was born January 10, 1937 in Sunbury, the daughter of Lester L. and Nettie (Bailey) Goodyear.
After graduating high school, Glenna was with the law firm of Griffith & Griffith. She then retired as an executive secretary with Rimrock Corporation following over 20 years of service.
Glenna is survived by her husband of 36 years, William H. Yarber Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law, William H. Jr. and Mary Yarber, Maitland, Florida, and Robert M. and Ruth Yarber, Columbus; a granddaughter, Caroline Yarber; and by a brother and sister-in-law, Glenard and Jeanine Goodyear, Sunbury. Glenna was very active as a volunteer with the Memorial Golf Tournament at Muirfield; American Cancer Society; McConnell Heart Health Center; Farm Science Review; Ohio High School State Wrestling and Golf tournaments; and as a guest attendant at The Ohio State men’s basketball games.
She loved all animals, especially cats.
Calling hours were Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, Columbus, where funeral service were held Friday, January 5, 2007, with the Reverend Harold Holmes officiating.
Interment followed in Union Cemetery.

Claude (Stub) Hines
Claude (Stub) Hines, 81, Sunbury, passed away January 5, 2007, following an automobile accident on December 12, 2006.
Stub was a World War II veteran and a long time member of the Sunbury VFW Post No. 8734. A graduate of Columbus Central High School, he retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1991.
Stub was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and is survived by loving wife of 56 years, Verna; a daughter, Janet (Bill) Ruark; a son, David Hines; and by grandsons, Joe (Jenny), Michael and Alex Ruark.
Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Stub’s life on Friday, January 12, 2007, 6 p.m. at the Sunbury VFW, 435 McGill Street, Sunbury.
DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, is assisting the family with arrangements.
John P. “Dick” Leggett
John P. “Dick” Leggett, 83, Sunbury, died Sunday morning January 21, 2007, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
He was born on August 18, 1923. in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Hal F. and Cybal J. (Clevenger) Leggett. He was a World War II Army Veteran and had participated in the campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 8736 in Sunbury. He had lived in the Sunbury and Mt. Liberty area for 10 years.
Dick will be remembered as the “rock” of his family, the one they could turn to for help. He could be found most Friday nights with his family at MCL for dinner and Sunday morning breakfast at Bob Evans. He was very proud of his service to his country in the military.
His family was very important to him and he still watched the grandkids after school and took them to soccer games and practices. In his earlier years, he enjoyed camping with the family.
Dick enjoyed the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by four daughters, Rebecca Gentile of Sunbury, Paula Norris of Columbus, Laura (Frank) Snead of Hilliard and Jody (Jeff) Wenger of Centerburg; grandchildren, Leslie DePriest, Carl III, Angela and Anthony Gentile, Frank Jr. and Holly Snead, and Jessica and Jennifer Wenger; great-grandchildren, Alex, Austin, Andy and Adam, and one expected; and by two brothers. He will be sadly missed by his constant canine companion, Hope.
Dick was preceded in death by a son, John Patrick Leggett; wives, Ruth Cadwallender and June Rosaline Romesburg; and by two brothers and three sisters.
Calling hours Tuesday were (January 23, 2007) at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury, where services were held Wednesday (January 24, 2007) with Pastor Brian Smith officiating.
Interment with military honors were held in the New Lone Oak Cemetery, Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
