John Waldo Bricker
John Waldo Bricker, age 71, of Galena died suddenly Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at Riverside Hospital.
Bricker was born December 25, 1935, in Galena. He was preceded in death by parents Charlie and Doris (Fuller) Bricker, brother David E. (Killed in action in World War II) and infant son, Jerry Wayne.
He is survived by wife of 43 years, Shirley (McClary) Bricker; and sons, John and Lance Bricker, sister, Dayna Tschantz, brothers, Charles and Howard (Jane) Bricker; niece, Cheryl Bricker and nephew, Joel (Patty) Tschantz and children; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law and their children.
John was a lifetime resident of Galena and compiled volumes of historical data and pictures of his hometown. He was a 1953 graduate of Big Walnut High School, but continued to organize the annual alumni banquet for his beloved Galena High School. An avid Cleveland Indians and Columbus Clippers fan, he was a member of the Clippers Boosters Club. John was a member of the Galena United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army and attended Otterbein College, his infectious laugh and friendship will be missed by many.
Arrangements were still pending at press time, but are expected to take place later this week sometime between Thursday and Saturday, August 23, through August 25, at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury.
Delores G. Rogers
Delores G. Rogers, 78 , Galena, died Tuesday morning, August 14, 2007, at Wintersong Village in Delaware.
Born on December 16, 1928 in Grove City she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda (Jacobs) Kropp. A Berlin township community resident for almost 60 years, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother. The homemaker was also the farm manager for the family CD 4 Farm. She was very proud of their Jersey dairy herd and farming operation of grain and livestock.
She was dedicated to the Berlin and Johnny Cake Corners community. A member of the Ohio Jersey Association, Berlin CCL, she was also a founding member and very active with the Berlin Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. One to always put the needs of others before her own, she will be remembered for her kind heart and caring ways. Always appreciative and a good neighbor, she was a collector of everything, including ducks. Her hobby and passion was the remembrance of every family member’s birthday with a special card.
For 54 years she was married to Carl G. Rogers, the former fire chief of Berlin Township. She always took care of the Rogers family and farm responsibilities, while her husband served the Berlin community. Carl died in 2002.
Delores is survived by her children, William “Bill” (Patti) Rogers of Galena, Mary (Tom) Trusler of Frazeysburg, John (Barb) Rogers of Galena, and Fred (Stacy) Rogers of Branson, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; her brother, Walter (Evelyn) Kropp of Grove City; and by numerous Berlin community friends.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kropp.
Calling hours were held Friday (August 17, 2007) at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral services were held Saturday (August 18, 2007) with Pastor Wayne Booth officiating.
Internment will follow in Cheshire Cemetery.

John Barrick Bowmar
John Barrick Bowmar, 64, Brackett Drive, Gainesville, Georgia, formerly of Galena, passed away Friday, March 28, 2008, at his residence following an extended illness. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 30, 2008 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial following in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Reverend Jon Williams of Bible Baptist Church officiated.
The family received friends Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Mr. Bowmar was born in Delaware County to the late Quinter Reed Bowmar and Dora M. (Hartley) Bowmar. He was a member of First UMC in Center Village. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Imogene Fletcher.
Mr. Bowmar is survived by his wife, Norma (Longshore) Bowmar, Gainesville; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Kirn Bowmar; Brian and Jane Bowmar and Chad and Julie Bowmar, all of Gainesville; six grandchildren, Kristopher, Matthew, Ethan, Kyle, Kara and Maggie; one sister, Rhea Bailey, Delaware; brother and sister-in-law, Reed and Nioma Bowmar of Galena; brother, Randy Bowmar of Delaware; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends also survive.
Mary E. Salini
Mary E. Salini, 92, Centerburg, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Country View of Sunbury. Calling hours and prayer service were held Tuesday (May 6) at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Sunbury. Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday (May 7) at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Sunbury, with the Reverend David Sizemore Celebrant. Internment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Everett Burns Chambers
Everett Burns Chambers, 82, died Sunday (May 4, 2008) surrounded by his family.
He was born Aug. 29, 1925 in Galena to Lester and Eda (Stout) Chambers. He graduated from Galena High School in 1943. During his teen years, he felt the call to ministry. He received his pastoral training at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, Otterbein College and Eastern Baptist Seminary. On Dec. 27, 1952, he married Charline Ann Pacey in Dayton. His first ministry was in Lucky Fork, Ky., where he served as pastor of the Faith Hill Mission church and taught school in a mountain one-room school house reached by horseback. Following his ordination in May 1958, by the American Baptist Churches of U.S.A., he served churches in Jerseyville and Princeton, Ill., Walworth, Wis., Kokomo, Ind., and interims in Ohio. He worked as regional director of development for Judson University for three years. In each community, he took an active part in the local ministerial association, served on local community boards and also on the American Baptist Association and state boards. He belonged to several organizations, including Rotary, Lions Club and the Boy Scouts of America and was active in supporting foreign missions, working onsite teaching and ministering in Haiti, Nicaragua and El Salvador. He had a heart for people, his effort and time in building relationships with those in his church and community was his greatest passion, besides living his life for Christ. He treasured the opportunity to visit the lonely or sick, pray for those in need and love those around him with his gregarious and joyful presence. His broad smile and warm presence was a character trait many came to love throughout his life and ministry. He was also an active gardener and fruit grower and cherished his time tending his vast day lily collection and raspberries. Overall, he had a contagious love of life and this enthusiasm was evident to all those that knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Charline; three daughters, Mary Dawn Chambers-Foltman of McHenry, Ill., Kathryn (Daniel) Mager of Columbia Ill., and Marsha (Charles) Walker of Lake In The Hills, Ill.; one son, Timothy (Dacia) Chambers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (Arthur) Houk of Washington, and Elsie Williams and Mary Dell (David) Nisbet, both of Ohio; and one brother, Eldon Chambers of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Eda Chambers.
Friends may visit with the family from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Darien Community Baptist Church in Darien, Wis. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. John Mancusi officiating. Burial will follow at Brick Church Cemetery.
Toynton’s Walworth Funeral Home, Walworth, Wis., is assisting the family.

Margaret Louise Kaelber Bernow
Margaret Louise Kaelber Bernow, 85, of Marion, died Thursday (Feb. 5, 2004) at the Kingston Residence.
She was born Aug. 25, 1918 in Marlboro Township to the late Jacob Wesley and Alma Moyer Kaelber. She married Melvin C. Bernow on May 25, 1941 in Waldo. She was a 1936 graduate of Waldo High School and a 1940 graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in music education. She began her teaching career at Concord and Cable Schools near Urbana.
She also taught at the Martel, Morral and Pleasant schools in Marion County. She was a member of the Literature Study Club, the Lecture Recital Club, and the Waldo United Methodist Church. Her passion was the piano and she was an accomplished classical pianist who perfected her skills even into her 70s by taking lessons from Robert Lawrence at Ohio Wesleyan University. Family members fondly remember gathering around her piano to sing hymns.
She is survived by her husband; one son, Robert (Betty Jo) Bernow; grandchildren, Natalie (Michael) Anderson of Lebanon, Heidi Niles of Marion, and David Bernow of Marion; two sisters, Ruth Retterer of Marysville and Doris (Warren) Groves of Charlottesville, Va.; a brother, Donald (Dorothy) Kaelber, of Delaware; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Bernadette) Kaelber.
Funeral services were to be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Waldo United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Thomas officiating. Burial was to be in Waldo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Waldo United Methodist Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
Mary Catherine Heffner
Mary Catherine Heffner, 78, of Anderson, Calif. and formerly of Delaware, died Friday (Feb. 6, 2004) at her residence.
She was born Sept. 10, 1925 in Delaware and later moved to southern California. She was a former deputy sheriff, probation officer and dispatcher in southern California. She was past president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and enjoyed crocheting and sewing.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Heffner of Dallas, Ore., and William Heffner of Seattle; her daughter, Linda Gregory of Anderson; three brothers, Donald Frost of LaMesa, Calif., Robert Frost of Sacramento, Calif., and Douglas Frost of Santa Ana, Calif.; three sisters, Geneva Evans of Delaware, Helen Frost of Palm Springs, Calif., and Paula Poore of Red Bluff, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Heffner.
Ethel M. Cozad Lahey
Ethel M. Cozad Lahey, 91, formerly of Sunbury, died Monday (Jan. 26, 2004) in Naperville, Ill.
She was born July 4, 1912 in Pittsburgh, to the late Lincoln and Jessie Boling Dalton. She lived in Sunbury from 1968 to 1991, when she moved to Delaware, and then moved to Illinois in 1993. She worked as a cook and dietitian for the Columbus Masonic Temple and retired from the Delaware County Home.
She is survived by one son, Herbert (Helen) Cozad of Naperville, Ill.; four grandchildren, Deborah, Susan, David and Rhonda; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, William Cozad and Elwood Lahey; two sons, Clarence and Robert Lee Cozad; five brothers, Phillip, Clarence, Raymond, Samual and Lisle Dalton; six sisters, Amy Green, Jane Ryan, Nina Joy, Lorie Speckenbach, Elsie Dupler and Lorie Dalton.

Frances M. Moxley
Frances M. Moxley, 93, of Delaware and formerly of Columbus, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 2004) following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in 1910 in Phoebus, Va., and was retired from Bible Literature International. She formerly lived on the west side of Columbus and more recently was a resident at the Arbors at Delaware. She was devoted to her church, Immanual Baptist Church, and participated in church choir, was a Sunday school teacher and AWANA youth club adviser.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Patricia; grandchildren Rick (Stephanie), Tim (Marilyn) and Mark; great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Katie Lee Rector of Galax, Va.; brother-in-law, Odell Moxley of Independence, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; parents, Cora and Charles Markham; and brothers, Burke and Baxter Markham.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, 2693 W. Broad St., where a service will be held Thursday at 1 p.m., with Pastor William Abernathy officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.
Brent William Murfield
Brent William Murfield, 38, of Powell, died Sunday morning (Jan. 25, 2004) as a result of an automobile accident.
He was a lifelong Delaware resident and was employed by Honda of America. He was a member of the Stratford St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was a 1983 graduate of Hayes High School. He enjoyed golfing, softball and baseball, and he earned the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop No. 348 at Stratford St. Paul’s.
He is survived by his fiancée, Stacey Crace, and her children, Amanda and Elizabeth; his parents, Thomas and Marilyn Murfield of Delaware; three brothers, Brad (Lisa) of Westerville, Brian (Shy) of Ofallon, Ill., and B.J. (Alyssa) of Columbus; three nephews, Justin, Eric, and Ryan; two nieces, Tiffany and Shyanne; and his little buddy, Hank.
Visiting hours will be today from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, 92 N. Sandusky Street. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stratford St. Paul’s United Methodist Church,1701 Columbus Pike, with Pastor Craig Arnold officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Park.
