Sis Poston
Naomi “Sis” Ormsby Hartje Poston, 84, of rural Ashley, died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at home.
She was born Dec. 4, 1917, in Steubenville, to Naomi Cartwright Davis Hartje and Charles Gaut Hartje. She grew up in the San Fernando Valley of California. She lived a wonderful life around the world with her family and spoke Chinese, French and Persian. She was a gracious hostess and loved the company of others. Mrs. Poston tended many gardens and loved her flowers, reflecting their colors in the candles she enjoyed.
She is survived by her children, Elias McClellan Poston and Therese Poston of Ashley, and Carl “Blitz” McClellan Poston and Susan Davis Poston of Perdido Key, Fla.; three grandchildren, Marc McClellan Poston, Carl McClellan Poston and Elizabeth Foster Poston Champonnois; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Marie Poston; and her brother, Charles Gaut Hartje of Middletown, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Carl “Bud” McClellan Poston, and a sister, Helen Cartwright Hartje Beatty, of Kilbourne.

Robert Ray
Robert S. Ray Sr., 60, of Marengo, died this morning (Aug. 2, 2002) at home.
He was born April 8, 1942, in Franklin County to Herbert and Dorothy (Robinson) Ray. He was a farm laborer for the Fishburn Co., Morrow County, and a member and trustee of the Ashley Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Nancy (Bennett) Ray; four sons, Steve and his wife, Kim, of Delaware, Robert Ray Jr. and Donald Ray of Marengo, and Ron and his wife, Sheri, of Marengo; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Steve Graham of Ashley and Delores and Ron Canniard of Marengo; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, 307 E. High St., Ashley, where funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Rice officiating.
Burial will be in Marengo Cemetery.

Betty Swisher-Finlayson
Elizabeth “Betty” Swisher-Finlayson, 84, of Stuart, Fla., and formerly of Delaware died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.
She was born Oct. 1, 1917, in Edison to Walter and Margaret (Hollingsworth) Williams.
She was retired from the Girls Industrial School. She formerly attended Lewis Center United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Swisher-Finlayson is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Pat Swisher of Russells Point, and John and Judy Swisher of State College, Pa.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Tyler of Westerville; a brother-in-law and his wife, George and Jean Swisher of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Swisher and Robert Finlayson; and a sister, Maxine Casterline.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, with the Rev. Mark Damschroder officiating. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Joy Foster
Joy E. Foster, 83, of Glendale, Ariz., died of pneumonia Thursday evening (May 30, 2002) in the Glendale hospital.
He was born March 11, 1919, in Mount Vernon, to Thomas J. Foster and Marie (Wade) Foster. Most of his life was spent in Delaware. He attended Delaware High School and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving as a staff sergeant in the states and Luzon, Philippines, from 1939-1945. His medals were numerous and included the Bronze Star.
Mr. Foster is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joy E. Jr. and Mickey Foster of Glendale; two granddaughters, Angie and Heather of Glendale; two brothers, Paul and Thomas, both of Delaware; and three sisters, Darlene Paulins and Marilyn Ufferman, both of Delaware, and Yvonne Taylor of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline; two brothers, Charles and Robert; and a sister, Verena.
Burial will be in Glendale, Ariz.

Nora Jones-Workens
Nora L. Jones-Workens, 68, of Olive Hill, Ky., died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at Sunny Vee Nursing Home, Delaware, after a long battle with cancer and emphysema.
She was born Oct. 1, 1933, in Floyd County, Ky. She was a nurse’s aide in nursing homes for many years and an avid bingo player.
Mrs. Jones-Workens is survived by her mother, Malta Mae (Dye) Cavandish of Delaware; her husband, Donald Workens of Olive Hill, Ky.; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Grover Mooney of Delaware, Michael and Nancy Mooney of Ashley, Jerry Mooney of Magnetic Springs and Mitchell and Diana Mooney of Cardington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rozenamae “Sissy” and Chalmer Clark and Esther “Lori” and Bernie Lane, all of Olive Hill, Ky.; 27 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert “Doodle” Jones of Delaware, and Johnny Davis of Ashley; and three sisters, Mary Ruth Scott of Maryland, Nell Coleman of Delaware, and Jessie Sexton of Columbus.
Her first husband, Grover Lee Mooney, and a son, James Mooney, both died in 1982. She also was preceded in death by her father, Albert Jones; a brother, Clarence Jones; an infant brother, Jesse Jones; and a sister, Clara Francis “Can Can” Levings.
Visiting hours will be Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Plain City, where funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m.
Burial will be Forest Grove Cemetery, Plain City.
Charles Skeens
Charles “Glenn” Skeens, 81, of Delaware, died Wednesday (May 29, 2002) at Sunny Vee Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1921, in Greenup, Ky., to Harrison and Lucy (Brown) Skeens. He was a retired assembler at Denison Engineering Co. and a past member of AMVETS Post No. 102.
Mr. Skeens is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eunice (Logan) Skeens of Delaware; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Carol Sue Skeens of Delaware, and Charles W. and Lori A. Skeens of Ostrander; two daughters and a son-in-law, Louise and Terry Burns and Rose Disbennett, all of Delaware; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and a sister, Mary Frances Roberts of Oak Hill.
He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, three sisters, and a great-grandson, Jeremy Fish.
Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, Delaware, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Dorsel Messick and Donny Ackers officiating.
Burial will be in Newhouse Cemetery near Warrensburg.
Donald Warden
Donald Eugene Warden, 70, of Delaware, died Wednesday morning (May 29, 2002) at Riverside Methodist Hospitals, Columbus.
He was born June 10, 1931, in Marietta, to Richard Wilson Warden and Esther May (Shears) Warden. A 25-year Delaware resident, he was a retired machinist from Valves and Presses. Mr. Warden was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge No. 376 and VFW Post No. 3297, all of Delaware.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nettie (Moodespaugh); three sons, Richard and Carol and Danny Warden, all of Henderson, W.Va., and Eric and Mary of South Carolina; two daughters, Sheryl Glenn and Tina Warden, both of Henderson, W.Va.; two stepsons, Butch Bogan and Larry and Pam Bogan, all of Delaware; a stepdaughter, Sandi Morrow of Delaware; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary of Columbus, and Sandy of Delaware; and a brother, John Warden of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Jackie Bogan; a stepdaughter, Linda Jaccaud; two brothers, Dewey and Billy; and two sisters, Edna and Eileen.
Visiting hours were held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, Delaware, where funeral services were to be held today at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. William Saunders of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church officiating.
Burial was to be in Berkshire Cemetery
James Clark
James “Jay D.” Clark, 66, of Galena, died unexpectedly Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) at his home.
He was born June 30, 1936, in Honaker, Va., to John and Katie (Price) Clark. Mr. Clark was a self-employed carpenter and Galena resident since 1952. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was a member of Sunbury Eagles VFW Post 8736.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laverna M. (Bolton) Clark; sons James (Sue) Clark of Delaware, Danny (Lang) Clark of Tacoma, Wash., and Jeff (Margie) Clark of Gahanna; daughter Kathy Sue (Michael) Fritz of Atlanta; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Sunbury, where funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Pastor Wayne Booth will officiate. Burial will follow at Trenton Cemetery.
Pauline Kohler
Pauline (Weiser) Kohler, 85, of Ashley, died Tuesday afternoon (Dec. 31, 2002) at Marion General Hospital.
She was born July 17, 1917, in Delaware County to Paul and Nina (Johnson) Weiser, and lived all of her life in Ashley.
Mrs. Kohler is survived by a son, Jack Kohler of Delaware; a brother, Robert Weiser of Parkersburg, W. Va.; two grandchildren, Shane Kohler of Marion and Karlene Kohler of Findlay; and two great-grandchildren, Seth and Sydney Kohler of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis (Buck) Kohler and a son, Kim K. Kohler.
A private family graveside services will be held at Ashley Union Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home, Ashley.
Evelyn Hiatt Baker
Evelyn Hiatt Baker, 84, of Delaware, died Wednesday afternoon (March 31, 2004) at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.
She was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Patterson, Calif., to David and Alice Thuet Hiatt. She had been a resident of Delaware since 1947. She was a seamstress, a World War II Marine veteran and a member of the Church of Christian Scientists.
She is survived by a son, David, of Bexley; daughters, Marilyn Rease of Hindsville, Ark.; Beth Grose of Richmond, Calif., and Caren Hiatt of Libertyville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Katie George of St. Paul, Minn., and David Baker of Bexley; one sister, Kathryn Howard of California; and brothers, Don Hiatt of Orgeon and Robert and Early Hiatt, both of California.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Willow Brook Centrum in the Terrace Room, with Larry Harris officiating.
