Donald E. Unkefer
Donald E. Unkefer, age 71, of East Canton, died Thursday August 16, 2001, in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. He was an East Canton area resident most of his life, retiring from Belden Blake in 1992 after 15 years of service. Member of the Christ Memorial Church, Robertsville. He was a 1948 graduate of Malvern High School and was an avid fisherman and hunter. A Korean Conflict Army veteran. He is preceded in death by one son, Dennis Unkefer in 1984; his father, Ralph D. Unkefer in 1997. He is survived by his wife, Martha R. (Anthony) to whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage September 9, 2000; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra A. and Greg Tallman of East Canton, Kathy S. and Dick Schooley of Louisville; grandchildren, Todd and Aimee Schilling, Kristy and Valerie Tallman, Matthew, Michael, and Alex Schooley; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Stewart and Bertha Unkefer of East Canton, Russell and Ruth Unkefer of Minerva, Larry and Patty Unkefer and Phil and Carla Unkefer all of Louisville; one sister and brother-in-law, Twila and Stanton Herstine of Louisville; one brother - in-law and his spouse, Carl and Louise Anthony of East Canton; numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Christ Memorial Church with Rev. Jeffrey Lord officiating. Interment in Robertsville Cemetery. friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Myers- Kreighbaum- Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton and one hour before services on Monday at the church. George W. Vergot
George W. Vergot, age 71, of Canton, died Thursday in the Hospice Care Center of Akron after an extended illness. Born in Steelton, PA, he had been a Canton resident for 16 years, moving here from Chicago. He was a retired United Airlines mechanic. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, V.F.W. Post 3301 in Carrollton, and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. George was a co-founder of the 50 Plus Club of Canton and was active in the Croatian Community on a local and national level. Survived by his wife, Agnes C. (Brady) Vergot; a step-son, Edward G. Brady, of Wisconsin, and a number of brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church with Msgr. John C. Finnigan as celebrant. Family and friends will meet at the church on Monday. Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.

Helen J. Daugherty
Helen J. Daugherty, age 59, of Carrollton passed away Wed. August 15, 2001 in her home. She was born July 4, 1942 in Mechanicstown to the late Arthur Orrell (Cochran) Kirby. A former resident of Minerva, she was a bus driver for the Minerva Local Schools for 26 years retiring in 2001. She is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church, the 4 Square Sunday School Class, and OAPSE. She is survived by her husband, John L. Daugherty whom she married Aug. 26, 1961; two daughters, Mrs. Scott (Shannon) Unkefer of Minerva and Mrs. Shawn (Mitzi) Spahr of Carrollton; a sister, Mrs. David (Brenda) Coe of Malvern, and a granddaughter, Chelsea Spahr of Carrollton. Following cremation, a memorial services will be held Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Minerva First Christian Church with Mr. Ralph Norman and Mr. John Bush officiating. Irene Guirgiu (Nikula, AKA Irene George) formerly of Canton, more recently of Houston, TX, died early Wednesday morning in Doctors Hospital, Houston, TX. Born July 6, 1925, in Youngstown, OH. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of almost 40 years, Raymond Guirgiu, son, Timothy Raymond Guirgiu, the Miku family sister, Mrs. Ann Muntean Miku, brother-in-law, Pete Miku, the Guirgiu family, sister, Mary Guirgiu all of Canton. Surviving daughter, Mrs. Lynne V. Phillips; son-in-law, Wallace L. Phillips; granddaughter, Julie Ann Montag of Campobello, SC; grandson, Paul R. Montag of Victoria, TX; one sister, Victoria F. Evans of Atlanta, GA. The Schick family niece Mrs. Karen A. Schick, Karen's husband and Irene's nephew, W. Scott Schick, the Miku family Peter J. Miku, Phillis Miku, David J. Miku of Streetsboro, OH, the Bonner family; sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary E. Bonner, O. Roscoe Bonner; cousin, Mrs. Mary Higgins and family of Canton, OH, Mrs. Twila B. Argento, Mr. Gerald P. Irene graduated from McKinley High School, Canton, OH attended Akron State University, Kent State University and Stark Technical College. In Canton, she was employed as a Quality Control Analyst for 25 years, moving to Texas in 1987 and was employed as a secretary of Atascocita United Methodist Church. Irene spoke three languages, English, Romanian and French. Her hobbies were writing poetry and watercolor landscape painting. She was a former member of Toastmasters International. Jeffrey Thomas Clapper
Jeffrey Thomas Clapper, age 34, of North Canton, OH, died Thursday morning August 16, 2001 in Akron General Hospital from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident. Born in Galion, OH, June 18, 1967, he was the son of Thomas K. and Judith (Harsh) Clapper of North Canton, OH. He was a graduate of Hoover High School and Walsh University, a Registered Nurse, and an EMT and member of the Greentown Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his parents, fiance Carla; daughter, Brittney Clapper of Buchanan, MI; brother, Steven T. Clapper of Georgetown, IN; a niece and nephew, Zachary and Brittany Clapper. Funeral services will be at the Bartley Funeral Home, Minerva, Saturday August 18, 2001 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Don Phelps officiating. Burial will be in Robertsville Cemetery. Kathy Lou Jones Slayman, age 49, of McDonough, GA, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, in her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Allmon-Dugger Hively Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in Georgia at a later date.
Kent William Garber
Kent William Garber, age 74, died Monday, August 13, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center of Canton after complications of a severe stroke he suffered on July 19th, of this year. A life-time resident of Bolivar, he had retired to Dover, OH in 1994. He was born January 15, 1927, in Canton, OH, the son and only child of the late Ross Myers and Helen (Schilling) Magdalene Garber. A 1944 graduate of Bolivar High School. Kent first worked for the Garber Lumber and Construction Company in Strasburg, OH., When war interrupted life around the world, Kent served his country in the Merchant Marines. After the war, he married Delores Marie Dee (Setterlin) Garber on September 5, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bolivar. They took over the Garber Family Farm, Edgewood Place, which they operated most of their lives. In addition to farming, Kent worked as a county meat inspector and sanitarian and as an employee of Delocon Wholesale of Bolivar and of Lawrence Township. His life time passions were farming, cars, and a love of Woodworking. Many new people treasure the furniture he restored and that he made himself, often from unique designs of his own creation. An avid bowler earlier in life. He joined the Canton Shuffleboard Club seven years ago after developing an interest in the sport over many winters spent in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Deloref Dee of Dover; and a daughter and son-in-law, Beckie and Martin Garber-Conrad of Edmont Alberta, Canada. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 377, Bolivar, OH 44612 in memory of Kent Garber. Because St. Paul's Lutheran Church sanctuary is currently being renovated, the funeral services will be held at The Church of The Holy Trinity, 1835 Dover-Zoar Rd., N.E., Zoar, OH. Calling hours will be Friday (today) 10-11 a.m. at the church where the services will be at 11 a.m. Rev. Dan Schaefer will officiate. Burial in Ft. Laurens Cemetery, Bolivar.
Loleta L. Kepler
Loleta L. Kepler, age 83, went home to be with her Lord August 15, 2001. Lo was born March 19, 1918 to Clyde and Ruth Woodford in Akron. She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1936 and married Montford M. Kepler in 1941. She attended Greensburg United Methodist Church, New Hope Bible Church, and Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren. A devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Lo was preceded in death by her husband, Montford, and is survived by her daughters, Beverly (Edwin) Coss of Green, Kathleen (Neil) Buchanan of Bolivar; son, David Kepler; sisters, Viola (Ashton) Hall of Rittman, Miriam (Dr. H. Wendell) King of Howard, OH; granddaughters, Kristin Buchanan of Canton and her fiance, Rick Shine, and Amy Aileen (Joseph) Ramey of Hartville. She was employed by Business News Publishing and was a graduate of both Lincoln High School in Canton and Columbus Technical Institute. She is preceded in death by her father, Karl Krumm and son-in-law, David Spellacy. She is survived by her son, Zachary (Elizabeth) and daughter, Megan Spellacy; mother, Pauline Krumm of Canton; grandchildren, Nicholas, Dean, Jill, Amy, Matthew and Michael; sisters, Nancy (Dave) Smith of Massillon, Merry Seccombe of Canton and Holly (Randy) Justham of Clinton, OH; many nieces; nephews; and friends. Victor G. Rosca
Victor G. Rosca, age 77, of Canton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2001 at his residence following a lengthy
illness. Born Aug. 19, 1923 in Canton to the late George and Varvara (Nistor) Rosca. He retired in 1983 from Danner Press. A 1941 graduate of Timken High School. Life member of St. George Romanian Orthodox Church of Canton, a life member of the Disabled American Veterans St. Mihiel 6, member of 82nd National Airborne Division Assoc. and the Akron Chapter of the 82nd Airborne. From 1943-1946 during World War II, he was a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division HQ. CO. 3rd BN. 504. He served with distinction in the African-Middle Eastern Theater, European Theater and the Battle of the Bulge. Awarded Service Medals with five bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead, Purple Heart, Distinguished Service Unit Badge, French Fourragere, Belguim Fourragere, Militaire Willem Order, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Survived by his wife, the former Eugenia (Jennie) Stan with whom he celebrated 54 loving years of marriage; also survived by beloved daughter and son-in-law, Adela and Robert Seal of Ft. Worth, TX; precious granddaughters, Katherine and her husband, David Nittler of Weslaco, TX, Corinne Seal of Ft. Worth, TX; very precious great-granddaughter, Shelby Leigh Nittler; brother and sister-in-law, George and Eugenia Rosca of Massillon; brother-in-law, George Stan of Canton; niece, Daneila Rosca Sexton and her children, Elizabeth, Eddie and Otis.
