Barbara Atkinson Stratton, age 65, formerly of Gaffney, SC, died January 12, 2002. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Stratton, Sr.; father, Boyd Atkinson; mother, Hazel Smith Atkinson. Born in Charleston, WV. She was a homemaker. Member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Survived by sons, Rand Stratton and Bob Stratton, both of Gaffney, SC; sisters, Janet Hendershot and Erma Williams, both of Canton, OH. Memorial services Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Gaffney, SC, with Rev. Roger Lindler officiating. The family will be at the home of Rand Stratton, 1012 S. Limestone St., Gaffney, SC. Memorials may be made to Dialysis Clinic Inc. Patient Fund, 405 Tiffany Park, Gaffney, SC 29341.

Charles D. Kraft
Charles D. Kraft, 57, of Canal Fulton, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002, at Massillon Community Hospital. He was born in Canal Fulton, had been a life resident of the area and was a former employee of Republic Steel Corp. Survived by wife, Mary; children, Cindy McKenzie of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, Canada, Chris (Troy) Freeman of Canal Fulton; five grandchildren, Doug and Michael McKenzie, Cory, Brandon and Ashley Freeman; sister, Joyce Spenard of St. Louis, MO; many close friends. Funeral service Tuesday 10 a.m. at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton), with Rev. Charles Tobias officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery, Canal Fulton. Visitation at the funeral home Monday 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, 143 First St. S.E., Massillon, OH 44646.

Charles Ross Winter. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home Sunday (today) 2-4 p.m.

Dominick Dellerba
Dominick P. Gooch Dellerba, age 88, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Canton, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Bay Pines VA Hospital in Florida following a brief illness. He was born May 26, 1913, in Bari, Italy. He had lived in Canton most of his life, moving to Florida 15 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Infantry. He had worked as a head chef at the Onesta Hotel in Canton for 25 years and the Mergus Restaurant in Canton for 15 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Church of the Savior United Methodist Church in Canton. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Keck) Dellerba of St. Petersburg, FL; one brother, Frank Delerbi of Canton; two sisters, Mary Florea and Margaret Dellerba, both of Canton; many nieces and nephews, including his nephew and godson, Dominick DiGiacomo of Minerva; and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline (Malino) Dellerba and three brothers. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, 120 Cleveland Ave. S., on Friday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. Burial has taken place in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Massillon. There will be no calling hours. The Heitger Funeral Service, Jackson Chapel, is handling the local arrangements.

Dorothy Mildred Lambert
Dorothy Mildred Lambert. Graveside services will be held Noon on Monday in the Belmont Cemetery, Belmont, OH. Friends may call Sunday (today) 1-4 p.m. in the Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home. The family requests memorial tributes to the Oakgrove Calvary Chapel, Piedmont, OH.

Earl J. Jim Starcher. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Cain officiating. Interment will be in St. Jacob's Cemetery. Elaine B. Woods
Elaine B. Woods, age 73, departed her earthly life to meet her personal Saviour, Jesus Christ, January 10, 2002. Elaine blessed the lives of others with her caring and giving spirit. She loved to collect seashells and to work crafts of many types. Her greatest love being her grandchildren next to confirming the Lord Jesus as her Saviour. Preceded in death by her husband, Dick and brother, Gerald Wenker. She is survived by daughter, Barbara Memer; son, Richard (Cindy) Woods; grandchildren, Mark, Christie, Stacy and Jeff Memer, Ryan, Aaron and Megan Woods; sister, June Trettel; several nieces and nephews; and loving friends. Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, January 14, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the New Beginning Nazarene Church, 5640 Portage St. NW, N. Canton, OH 44720. (330-494-2375). Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, Elaine requested that any memorials be made to her church.

Frances C. Long
Frances C. Long, 95, of Heather Ridge Center, North Canton, formerly of Township Road 687, Loudonville, died Saturday morning, January 12, in Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville, after a brief illness. Mrs. Long was born March 21, 1906 in Carthage, IL, the daughter of the late Charles and Daisy (Kettering) Heyde. She was a graduate of Loudonville High School and Oberlin College where she received a degree in early childhood education. She taught one year in Green Springs, OH before she returned to Loudonville with her husband, M. Rex Long, whom she married June 14, 1927. She enjoyed summer time retreats to her cottage on Pelee Island, Ontario, Canada. She had resided in North Canton the past five years. She was a member of Loudonville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Farm Bureau Council. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and James McClure and Alice Hall, all of Loudonville, and Ann and Larry Brown of North Canton; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 15, at 11 a.m. in Loudonville United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the United Methodist Church, 124 North Market Street, Loudonville, OH 44842.

Geraldine Schreiber
Geraldine Gerry Schreiber, age 87, of Cumming, GA, died Thursday, January 10, 2002. She was a long time resident of Canton prior to moving to Georgia two years ago. She had been an avid bridge player. Mrs. Schreiber was preceded in death by her husband, Earl L. Schreiber, who died in 1991. Survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Curtis Stephens of Cumming; two grandsons, Christopher Frankel of Birmingham, GA and Patrick Stephens of Dawsonville, GA. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Fr. John R. Nentwick officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Gladys M. Lyons
Gladys M. Lyons, age 78 of Canton died Wednesday afternoon in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born December 3, 1923 in North Industry, OH to the late Albert and Eva Hechtel. She was a graduate of McKinley High School and a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, David Lyons, one brother, Albert Hechtel and one sister, Laura Sue Murphy. Survivors include her son, Daniel Lyons of Coshocton, OH and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Jim Surbey of North Canton, Donna and Elmer (Sparky) Porter of Maryland and Wilma Purney of Oregon. There are numerous nieces and nephews also surviving. Memorial services will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2705 6th St., SW with Rev. Stanley Wallace officiating, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church for the purchase of Children's Books.

Harry E. Farra
Harry E. Farra, age 85 of Canton, died Thursday in Doctors Hospital following an extended illness. Born August 2, 1916, in Byesville, OH, to the late Elmer and Vista Farra. He was a member of the Golden Lodge. He was retired from the Timken Co. after 30 years of service, having been a brick layer in the melting shop. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home; and his children and their spouses, Glenn and Marie Smith of California, Rudie (Ruth Ann) Smith of North Canton, Timothy D. and Rayma Smith of Canton, Merceides Jack of Canton; nine grandchildren; three great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Chester Harris officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours in the funeral home one hour prior to services on Tuesday 12 noon-1 p.m.

Helen E. Kuemerle
Helen E. Kuemerle, age 84, of Stow, died Jan. 9, 2002. Pastor John Cervone will conduct service Monday at 11 a.m. at Stow Alliance Fellowship, 4460 Stow Rd., where friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial in Stow Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Stow Alliance Fellowship Building Fund.

Irving H. Greene
Irving H. Greene. Following cremation a memorial service will be held Monday, January 14th at 11 a.m. in the chapel building at Sunset Hills Burial Park with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association.

James D. Polk
Elder James Delano Polk, was born September 26, 1938, in Canton, OH, to the late Jones J.W. Polk and Leily Dillard Polk. James departed this life suddenly and went home to be with the Lord. James attended McKinley High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He retired from Republic Engineered Steels (formerly LTV), after 40 years of service. James was active in community sports, having participated in Golden Gloves, boxing and coaching Little League Sports. He was an ordained Elder in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc. and served faithfully at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, was the Asst. Pastor of Pentecostal/Keys to the Kingdom and Apostolic Faith Assembly Church Inc., where he most recently served. He was a loving husband and devoted father for over 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy A. Polk, four brothers, Thomas Edward Polk, Tony E. Polk, Wallace C. Polk and Morris L. Polk Sr., two sisters, LuNellie Polk and Beatrice Polk-Hill. Remaining to celebrate his life are his two daughters, Yolanda D. Polk and Amanda C. Polk, both of Bloomfield Hills, MI; three brothers, John W. (Neldean) Polk of Canton, Elvin L. (Linda) Polk of Harrisburg, PA, Nelson D. (Gwendolyn) Polk of Canton; two sisters, Cheryl S. Polk and Fern M. Polk-Davis, both of Canton; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, god children and other relatives and friends. Services will be at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church on Monday, January 14, 2002. Family Fellowship will begin at 12 noon and the service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. Dist. Elder Ralph M. Byrd officiating. Interment in Northlawn Cemetery. Family receiving guests at Nelson Polk, 2524 Franciscan St. NE, Canton. Arrangements caringly handled by Jones Funeral Home.

Kenneth W. Bishop
Kenneth W. Bishop, age 70, of Canton, died Thursday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born May 26, 1931, in Canton, to the late Urban and Ruth Bishop. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Patricia Bishop of Canton; and his friends, William and Darla Weaver and family of Navarre. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Union Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home Monday 7-9 p.m.

Lawrence L. Garcia
Lawrence L. Garcia, age 77, of Massillon, died Friday afternoon in Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was born Feb. 22, 1924, in Niagra Falls, NY, to his parents, the late Raymond and Pura Garcia. He was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and served as an air traffic controller and sharp shooter. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from Akron University and was employed as a training supervisor for the Timken Company for 33 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Garcia was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and McKinley Eagles Lodge #2370. He was an avid bowler and golfer and recorded two holes-in-one after his 70th birthday. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Mr. Garcia is survived by his son, Troy Garcia of Massillon; daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and David DuPlaine of Massillon; grandson, Noah Garcia; stepson, John Williams of Pittsburgh, PA; and stepdaughter, Cheryl MacIntyre of Seville, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Michaels Church with Rev. Father Joseph Zamary officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home will be Monday 7-9 p.m.

Mamie F. Bender
Mamie F. Bender, age 85, of Louisville, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Friday, January 11, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center following a recent illness. Mamie was born May 8, 1916, in Florence County, SC, to the late Robert and Mary (Morris) Ferrell. She was a former chief PBX operator for The Repository. Mamie enjoyed needlepoint and crochet. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she was active as a former assistant organist and secretary. Mamie leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Harry R. Bender, whom she married November 7, 1945; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Kathryn and Arthur Lee Coleman of Shiloh, GA, and Bonnie June and M. John Wilhelm of Magnolia; a sister, Marie Stone of North Augusta, SC; a brother, Lonnie T. Ferrell of Delaware; two grandchildren, Timothy Lee Coleman and Jonathan Scott Wilhelm; and two great-grandchildren, Nathan Paul Coleman and Hannah Grace Coleman. She is preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline McLeod, Mabel Welch and Lucille (Ferrell); and two brothers, Jack and Douglas Ferrell. Funeral services for Mamie will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Grace Baptist Church with Pastor David Ryan officiating. Interment will be in West Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 6-8 pm. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or the Parkinson's Foundation.

Margaret Graff
Margaret (Peg Dailey) Graff, age 80, of Canton, passed away graciously Friday morning in the Laurels of Massillon with her family at her side. She was born in Canton on Sept. 24, 1921, to the late Patrick and Thelma Dailey. She was graduated in 1939 from McKinley High School where she was the first elected May Queen. She was employed as managing secretary of the former Belden Hotel until retiring in 1962. During World War II Mrs. Graff was employed by the Hoover Company and Timken Company. She was chosen to be a Timkenette during the war years, promoting the sale of war bonds. She was a member of the Church of the Savior United Methodist, former member of St. Paul's United Brethren Church and a former member of the Pythian Sisters. She was preceded in death by a sister, Glodine T. Everhart. Mrs. Graff is survived by her loving husband, Vernon F. Graff, to whom she was married 60 years on Dec. 20, 2001; her sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon D. and Susan Graff of Oklahoma City, OK, William and Dixie Graff of Canton; grandsons, Christopher Vernon Graff and William Curtis Graff and their extended families; the Robert Dorsey family of Louisville; the Rusty Sparks family of Canton; the Daniel Harris family of Palm Beach, FL; Shirley Siers and Betty Funk of Canton. Mrs. Graff was voted The world's best wife, mother, grandmother and her husband's best friend by her loving family. The family wishes to thank all those who have given us their prayers, hope and encouragement during this difficult time. A special thanks to the staff at the Laurels of Massillon for their care, sympathy and understanding. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Robert E. Mary A. Nana (Monteleone) Silla. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dyer as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday (tonight) 6-9 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home and also Monday one hour before the Mass at the church, from 9-10 a.m. The funeral procession will form at the church on Monday morning. A special thanks to Dr. James Schmotzer, Tina Brechbill and also the Nursing Staff of Aultman Memorial 6th Floor South.

Ruth A. (Rothacher) Carper
Ruth A. (Rothacher) Carper, age 91 formerly of Canton, OH and more recently residing in Elyria, OH passed away Wednesday evening in the Center Ridge Nursing Home in North Ridgeville, OH following an extended illness. Born in Canton on April 25, 1910 she was the daughter of the late, William and Olive Cobb. She was retired as Parish Visitor for the Dueber United Methodist Church, retiring in 1985 after 25 years of service. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Canton. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, along with her first husband, George A. Rothacher who passed away in 1976 and her second husband, Warren P. Carper who passed away in 1996. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, George and Marian Rothacher of Mansfield, OH and her daughter, Laura Laser of Elyria, OH; one step-daughter, Janet Terry of Massillon, OH and one step-son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lynn Carper of Farmdale, OH. There are six grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Piatt and Rev. Ruth A. Moore officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday 2-5 p.m. memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons.
