Dominick Dellerba
Dominick P. Gooch Dellerba, age 88, of St. Petersburg, FL, formerly of Canton, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at Bay Pines VA Hospital in Florida following a brief illness. He was born May 26, 1913, in Bari, Italy. He had lived in Canton most of his life, moving to Florida 15 years ago. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Infantry. He had worked as a head chef at the Onesta Hotel in Canton for 25 years and the Mergus Restaurant in Canton for 15 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Church of the Savior United Methodist Church in Canton. He is survived by his wife, Judith (Keck) Dellerba of St. Petersburg, FL; one brother, Frank Delerbi of Canton; two sisters, Mary Florea and Margaret Dellerba, both of Canton; many nieces and nephews, including his nephew and godson, Dominick DiGiacomo of Minerva; and many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline (Malino) Dellerba and three brothers. A memorial service will be held at Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, 120 Cleveland Ave. S., on Friday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. Burial has taken place in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Massillon. There will be no calling hours. The Heitger Funeral Service, Jackson Chapel, is handling the local arrangements.

Helen Mae Furney
Helen Mae (Brown) Furney, age 74, of Canton, went Home to be with her Lord Sunday,January 13, 2002 after an extended illness. Born in Canton, OH on August 8, 1927, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She was a member of Canton Baptist Temple and a graduate of Canton South High School Class of 1945. Preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Iris Brown. Survivors include her son and daughter--in-law, John R. and Jane Furney of Murfreesboro, TN; one daughter, Juanita Harvey of Mt. Laurel, NJ; grandchildren, Scott and Darlene Furney of Las Vegas, NV, Russell of Murfreesboro, TN, Jed Harvey of Canton and Heather Harvey of Mt. Laurel, NJ; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Helen Brown of Louisville; one sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Robert Walters of Canton. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Canton Baptist Temple with Dr. Harold Henniger and Rev. David Harmon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours in the Reed Funeral Home Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m.
Jack LeRoy Drake
Jack LeRoy Drake, age 67, of Canton, died Sunday morning in the home following an extended illness. Born December 25, 1934 in Moundsville, WV to the late William and Estella Drake. He retired from the Akro Rubber Co. in 1994 after 40 years of service. Preceded in death by one brother, William Drake and one sister, Florence Drake. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage on August 6, 2001; two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Dale Jett of Ohio and Brenda Bordon of Lake, Florida; two grandchildren, Brooke Bordon of Florida and Brandi Sharpe of the home; two brothers, Ronald Drake of Pennsylvania and James Drake of Cameron, WV; one sister, Norma Newman of Cameron, WV; and his dear and protecting dog, Candy. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. James Black officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. James D. Polk
Elder James Delano Polk, was born September 26, 1938, in Canton, OH, to the late Jones J.W. Polk and Leily Dillard Polk. James departed this life suddenly and went home to be
with the Lord. James attended McKinley High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He retired from Republic Engineered Steels (formerly LTV), after 40 years of service. James was active in community sports, having participated in Golden Gloves, boxing and coaching Little League Sports. He was an ordained Elder in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc. and served faithfully at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, was the Asst. Pastor of Pentecostal/Keys to the Kingdom and Apostolic Faith Assembly Church Inc., where he most recently served. He was a loving husband and devoted father for over 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dorothy A. Polk, four brothers, Thomas Edward Polk, Tony E. Polk, Wallace C. Polk and Morris L. Polk Sr., two sisters, LuNellie Polk and Beatrice Polk-Hill. Remaining to celebrate his life are his two daughters, Yolanda D. Polk and Amanda C. Polk, both of Bloomfield Hills, MI; three brothers, John W. (Neldean) Polk of Canton, Elvin L. (Linda) Polk of Harrisburg, PA, Nelson D. (Gwendolyn) Polk of Canton; two sisters, Cheryl S. Polk and Fern M. Polk-Davis, both of Canton; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, god children and other relatives and friends. Services will be at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church today, January 14, 2002. Family Fellowship will begin at 12 noon and the service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. Dist. Elder Ralph M. Byrd officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Family receiving guests at Nelson Polk, 2524 Franciscan St. NE, Canton. Arrangements caringly handled by Jones Funeral Home.

Kenneth W. Bishop, age 70, of Canton, died Thursday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born May 26, 1931, in Canton, to the late Urban and Ruth Bishop. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Patricia Bishop of Canton; and his friends, William and Darla Weaver and family of Navarre. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Union Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home Monday (tonight) 7-9 p.m.

Mary Ethel Dunlap
Mary Ethel Dunlap, age 89, of Canton, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2002, in Country Lawn Nursing Home following an extended illness.
Born on April 6, 1912, in Bowerston, OH, to her parents, the late John N. and Clara N. (Smith) Dunlap. She had been a Canton resident since 1941, having attended Ohio State University and graduated from Beckwith Business College in 1941. She was a member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church and a member of Delta Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and was the office manager of the Ohio Tar and Asphalt Company for many years. She retired from the Canton City Auditors Office. Her many interests included watching the Cleveland Indians, playing trombone in the band and playing Bridge. Preceded in death by her brother, Carl; a half-brother, Arthur; and one niece, Carol Tripp. Survivors include her half-sister, Mabel Bower of Brookville, FL; nieces, Barbara (Arthur) Busby of Canton, Beverly Chastain of Tampa, FL; one nephew, Brian (Sue) Bower of Daytona, FL; and her dear friends, Norma and Dave Klein of Canton and their sons. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Chaplain Ron Iwanusa officiating where calling hours will be held one hour prior to services from 6-7 p.m. Eastern Star services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Longview Cemetery in Bowerston, OH.
Paul Calcaterra, Jr.
Paul C. Calcaterra, Jr., age 46, of Canton, died early Sunday morning in AlterCare of Canton following an extended illness. Born October 24, 1955 in St. Louis, MO. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Paul C. Sr. and Paula Calcaterra; his mother, Edna M. Calcaterra of St. Louis, MO; one sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Charles Gunkle of St. Louis, MO; one niece; one nephew; two stepsisters and brother-in-law, Kerrie Greene of Canton and Kristie and James Sponseller of Massillon. All services will be held in St. Louis, MO.
Russell E. Pfau
Russell E. Pfau, age 74, of Canton, died Saturday in Mercy Medical Center. Mr. Pfau was a life resident of Canton. A graduate of McKinley High School, retired in 1968 from the Timken Company with 25 years of service and was a veteran of World War II. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bernice Pfau; two sisters, Mary Unsworth and Dorothy Pfau; and three brothers, William, Robert and Donald Pfau. Survivors include two sisters, Betty Hutter of Akron, OH and Elma Richards of Canton, OH; niece, Joyce Swoveland of Canton, OH; nephew, William Richards of Malvern, OH; two sisters-in-law, Fran Marrow of Kentucky and Sue Pfau of Magnolia, OH; many nieces and nephews and friends. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in North Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Snyder officiating. Violet B. Reynolds
Violet B. Reynolds, age 91, of Canton, passed away Saturday morning. Born in Buffalo, OH., she is the daughter of the late Alex and Yana Walker. She was employed at Schmidt's Gifts for 28 years. Mrs. Reynolds was a 50 year member of Canton Chapter # 190 O.E.S. Also preceded in death by three grandchildren, Lori Reynolds, Glenn Allen Moody and Nona Jane Moody; brother, Leonard G. Walker. Survived by her husband, Don Reynolds, to whom she was married to for 67 years; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Edward Moody; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Zola Reynolds; three grandchildren, James and Timothy Moody and Renee Birklund; six great grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home where friends may call Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and one hour before services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
