Clarence W. Johnson
Clarence Walter Johnson, age 71, departed this life on Sunday, January 20, 2002 following a brief illness. He was born on October 25, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA to parents, Purcell and Mary Estelle Johnson. Clarence was a member of Trinity Gospel Temple in Canton, OH. Clarence served in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard as a pilot. Some of his accomplishments include Aircraft Liaison for the National Civil Service in Columbus, OH; Program Director and Director of St. Stephen's Community Center, Columbus, OH; and Director of Equal Employment Opportunity of Stark County. He was director of public affairs for WINW Radio Station. He was also an accomplished musician and choir director. He served on the boards of various civic organizations: Child Adolescent Services, Central Mental Health Agency and Northeast Community Center, to name a few. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by a brother, William Carlton; and a sister, Irma Johnson. Clarence leaves to cherish his memory one son, Eric (Sandra) Johnson of Wilmington, DE; two daughters, Darlene (Minister William) Carter and Carol (Edward) Konkey both of Wilmington, DE; beloved friends, Lphelia Mercer and John Green both of Canton; adopted son and daughter, Nelson and Gwendolyn Polk; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Demetrios Tsalpatouros
Rev. Fr. Demetrios Tsalpatouros, age 79, of Canton, went home peacefully to be with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday morning, January 19, 2002 in his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 20, 1922 in Neos Erineos, Patron, Greece to the late Athanasios and Maria Tsalpatouros. During the late 1940's, he served for five years in the Greek Army. He was accepted in 1952 at the University of Athens Theological School from where he was awarded a degree in 1956. In 1957, Fr. Demetrios was ordained a priest at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago, IL. He served the people of many cities in the Midwest as a visiting priest. Upon moving to Canton, with his family in 1964, he again served as a priest to the people of many Greek communities in the Ohio and West Virginia area. He also obtained employment at the Ford Motor Plant in Canton, retiring in 1986. He was especially happy to minister to his many friends at the Ford plant when they requested advice or support. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy and George; two brothers, Basile and George Tsalpatouros; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary Argeropoulos; sister-in-law and her husband, Helen and George Stathakaros; and brother-in-law, Harry Argea. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Loula (Argea) Tsalpatouros of the home; his sister, Aresta Kolaris of Kratheon, Greece; and nephews and nieces, Thano, Mary, Kiki and Mary; nephew and his wife, Bill and Debbie Stathakaros of Canton; brother-in-law, Angelo Argea of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; many cousins and friends in Greece. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, 251-25th St. NW, Canton. His Eminence Metropolitan Maixmos of Pittsburgh officiating, assisted by Rev. Fr. Michael Pastrikos, Rev. Fr. Constantine Shiepis and Rev. Fr. Anthony Spirtos. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Fr. Major Thomas M. Elliott
Major Thomas M. Elliott, age 78, passed away December 22, 2001 at Casa Palmera Nursing Home in Del Mar, CA. Major Elliott formerly of Canton was born July 16, 1923 and was a graduate of McKinley High School. Major Elliott served as a U.S. Marine Aviator during WWII and the Korean War. In Korea, Tom flew more than 60 combat missions in his Panther jet. For his heroism he receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, other medals included the Air Medal with five stars for meritorious service, China Service Award, Presidential Unit Citation Asiatic Pacific Award, Korean Unit Citation Korean Service with four stars, and other awards and citations for heroic service as a U.S. Marine Aviator. While serving as an exchange pilot with the Air Force in 1952, Major Elliott flew the Thunder Jet on one of the longest hops ever attempted by a single-engine jet, flying 2,582 miles from Midway Island in the Pacific to Misawa, Japan. Six years later, while serving with the legendary MAG 13 Blacksheep squadron, Tom flew his FJ-4 Fury on the historic (his second) Trans-Pacific hop to Japan. Twice Major Elliott mustanged from the enlisted ranks to officer status. The first time he achieved 1st. Lieutenant in WWII. When called back to Korea as a Master Sergeant, he soon regained his commission. Tom attended the prestigious Naval War College in Newport, R.I. In 1961, after a severe injury, Tom retired having served 19 years as a United States Marine Aviator. He is preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Pearl (Dutton) Elliott; one sister, Mary Elliott Olnhausen MacVean; five brothers, John, Estal (Pete), Samuel, Milford, and William Elliott. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Kim, Keith, Mark, Britt, Thomas Elliott; daughter, Toni; seven grandchildren; brother-in-law, Peter Mac Vean; nieces, Linda Elliott Gannon, Joan Elliott Gray, Karen Elliott Bethel; nephews, Milford and David Elliott; many other great nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and there will be a Military Memorial Service at Fort Rosecrans, CA.

Naomi R. Ebling
Naomi R. Lindy Ebling, age 66, of Perry Twp., passed away peacefully Tuesday evening in her home. Born in Canton, she is the daughter of the late Stanley and Anna Laurie Ebling. She is retired from Superior Dairy where she was employed for 40 years. She was a Red Cross Volunteer and memberships include First Christian Church, A.A.R.P., Perry Grange. Also preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and one nephew. Survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirleyann and Eddie Rehfus of Canton, Sue and Robert Brackin of Carrollton, Patricia and Paul Plot of Minerva; one brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Thelma Ebling of Carrollton; one niece, Kaye and one nephew, Brad; dear friend, Mary Darlene Hahn; and her three special little friends, Precious, Cocoa, and Sassy. Services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. in the Schneeberger Funeral Home. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. prior to services. Private burial services will be held in Sunset Hills Burial Park at a later date. The family suggests memorials be made to The Stark County Humane Society and The American Diabetes Association.
Pauline T. Singleton
God saw the road was getting rough, the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed her weary eyes, and whispered Peace be Thine.
TOGETHER AGAIN
On Sunday, January 20, 2002, God in his infinite wisdom called Sister Pauline T. Singleton from labor to reward at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, Ohio. She was born on September 2, 1920, in North Carolina, to the late Arminous Newkirk and Janie Cowan Newkirk. At an early age, Sister Pauline joined Point Caswell Baptist Church, Atkinson, NC. She served diligently until moving with her husband, (Asie Singleton, Sr.) to Canton, Ohio in 1946. Over the years, Sister Pauline has worked part-time as a house keeper and restaurant worker. She did choose as her full time job to be a home maker for her husband and child. Sister Pauline loved sports which she watched every day if possible, (football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, etc.) Indeed, she could talk sports with the best. Sister Pauline joined Peoples Baptist Church in 1946 and has remained a member until her passing on January 20, 2002. Indeed, Sister Pauline will be greatly missed by her church family and friends. She was married to the late, Asie Singleton, Sr., who preceded her in death. To this union one son, Asie Singleton, Jr. In addition, she was preceded through the storm by her loving parents, Arminous and Janie Newkirk; two brothers, Clarence and Leonard Newkirk; and one sister, Sadie Watkins. She leaves her loving memory forevermore to her son, Asie (Anne) Singleton Jr., of East Canton, OH; sisters, Etta Mae (Leadell) McIntyre of Rocky Point, N.C., Geraldine (Hubert) Moore of Winston Salem, N.C.; brothers, Marvin (Jennie) Newkirk, Thomas (Alma) Newkirk all of Canton; Lewis (Bernice) Watkins Jr. of Atkinson, N.C.; grandchildren: William (Barbara) Singleton of Laurel, DE., Christopher Singleton of Columbus, OH., Monica Singleton of Akron, OH., John Singleton of Canton; great-grandchildren: Jeremy and Herschel and a host of other relatives and friends. Sister Pauline was a devoted Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend to all who knew her. Peter Vinciquerra
Pete Vinci
Peter Vinciquerra, (Pete Vinci), age 93, of Waynesburg, passed away suddenly Tuesday afternoon in the emergency room of Aultman Hospital.
He was born Sept. 2, 1908, in Magnolia, OH, the eldest child of Albert and Ida Moriconi Vinciquerra, and had resided in Waynesburg since shortly after his birth until Nov. of 2000 when he became a resident of Altercare of Canton. Pete was a retired carpenter and member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #69. He previously was a coal miner and also worked at Whitacre-Greer Fireproofing Co. in Waynesburg. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Morges; the Northern-Italian Club in Canton; and also was one of the few remaining members of the American-Italian Club of Waynesburg. Throughout his life Pete had a passion for music and especially enjoyed playing the accordion up until his later years. He also loved gardening and making different kinds of crafts, and was very proud of the homemade brandy he and his wife often made. Most of all, he took special pride in his home which he helped build and where he and his wife lived for over 50 years. Preceded in death by two brothers, Albert and Romolo Vinciquerra and a sister, Mary Cozzoli. Survived by his wife, Mary (Piovanelli) Vinciquerra, with whom he celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in Aug. 11, 2001; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and James Piovanelli, Peia Vinciquerra, and Betty Proietti, all of Waynesburg, Jack and Caryl Piovanelli, of Portland, OR, Steve Stropki and Lillian Fernandez, both of Canton; many nieces and nephews; and his friends at Altercare and with Absolute Health Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Morges with Fr. Thomas Marut as Celebrant. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday (tonight) 6-8 p.m. at the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia. Rev. Paul L. Mohler, age 91, of St. Johns Street, Grafton, WV., went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom he served faithfully for 60 years on Monday, January 21, 2002 at the WVU Hospital Morgantown, WV. He was born on November 16, 1910 in Middlebranch, OH., a son of the late Frank E. Mohler and Katherine (Ebie) Mohler. Rev. Mohler was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanette Louise (Werner) Mohler who passed away on November 16, 1978. Surviving are one son, Nathanael H. Mohler and wife, Carol Mohler of North Canton, OH; one son-in-law, Darrell Stewart of Friendsville, MD; one grandson, Jeffrey Mohler; three granddaughters, Donna, Dana, and Jewelie; five great grandchildren, Rachel, Jessica, Chaunte, Christopher, and Ryan; one sister, Myrtle Haldeman of Canton, OH. Rev. Mohler was preceded in death by three children, Tessie Lou Mohler, Rebekah Stewart, and Matthew Bryan Mohler; two brothers, Ned Mohler and Hubert Mohler; one sister, Goldie Kinsley. Rev. Mohler was retired from the First Grace Brethren Ministerium was a member of the First Grace Brethren Church of Grafton and also a member of the Association of Grace Brethren Ministries. Funeral services will be conducted at the Middlebranch Grace Brethren Church on Friday January 25, 2002 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Mohler officiating. interment in the Warstler Cemetery in Middlebranch, OH. Ruth A. Farra
Ruth A. Farra, age of Canton died late Tuesday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born February 3, 1927 in North Canton to the late Clyde P. and Clara E. Hill. She was a collector, repairer and restorer of dolls, was a designer of doll clothes, was an artist, caregiver, mother to the less fortunate, a lover of mankind and a friend to many. May she rest in peace in God's arms forever. Preceded in death by her husband, Harry on January 10, 2002; and two sisters, Bess Temple and Dorothy Sanford. Survivors include her children, Glenn and Marie Smith of California, Rudie (Ruth Ann) Smith of North Canton, Timothy D. and Rayma Smith of Canton and Merceides Jack of Canton. There are nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Williams of Massillon, Helen Hunter and Rose Ann Pullin both of Florida; one brother, Clyde E. Hill of Canton; and several nieces and nephews also surviving. Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Steven Stokes, age 45, was born July 14, 1956, to the late Willie and Carrie Mae Stokes in Ozark, AL. Steve went home to be with the Lord on Thursday January 17, 2002. He was preceded in death by his mother Carrie Mae Stokes; father, Willie Stokes; brothers, Willie Stokes Jr., and Joel Stokes. Steve leaves behind to cherish his precious memories his wife, Elizabeth Stokes of the home, Olie; daughter, Dionna Stokes Ellis (Melvin) of Massillon, OH; three step sons, Robert Williams, Eugene Waiters Jr., and Anthony Waiters all of Canton, OH; two brothers, Jerry Stokes of Canton, OH and Johnny Stokes of Cleveland, OH; two sisters, Loraine Gray (Sam) of Canton, OH., and Lucille Stokes of Ozark, AL; sisters-in-law, Snow Bell Williams and Margaret Ann Kolbs of Canton, OH; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Warner B. Leedy
Warner B. Leedy, age 80, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2002, in Aultman Hospital. He was born in Olive Hill, KY., April 16, 1921, to the late Frank and Susan (Hatfield) Leedy. Warner was retired from Continental Insurance Company of Columbus. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. A member of Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville, and Laurel Lodge F. A.M. of Uniontown, PA. He was a former member of the Louisville Kiwanis Club. For many years he was active with the Louisville Booster Club and the Little Leopard Organization as a coach. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Leedy, in 2000; four brothers and five sisters. He was a beloved father and grandfather. Warner is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Michael Yeagley of Louisville, Kristan Leedy and Chuck Thompson of Westerville, OH; two sons and daughter-in-law, Randall Leedy of St. Paul, Alaska, Warner Leedy II and Laura Miller of Gahanna, OH; a sister, Rebecca Arrowsmith of Clearwater, FL; three grandchildren, David and Laurie Yeagley of Louisville, Jennifer and Gregory Anderson of Canton, Warner Carter Leedy III of Gahanna, OH. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville with Dr. John Leedy and Rev. John Bertsch officiating. William Brinson, Jr.
William E. Brinson, Jr. (Trigger) and Leaping Willie, age 74, departed this life on Saturday, January 19, 2002. Born
January 6, 1928 in Jacksonville, FL. Preceded in death by his father and mother. He served our country in the Class 5-A United States Army in 1954. Member of the North American Fishing Club, a licensed plumber and electrician. He played the bass guitar with a variety of musicians such as Count Head, Buzzy Mitchell and Bill Bulter, and was a part of a group called Bill Bulter Trio. William leaves to cherish his precious memories to Martha Jenkins Brinson of the home; special friends, Homer Sherrell, Will Clark, David and Mary Mayle and Ed Beckley. Wilma J. Williams
Mrs. Wilma Jean Williams, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.
At age 52, she went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, Jan. 22, 2002 in Mercy Medical Center, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 26, 1949 in Grafton, WV to the late Warren Mayle and surviving Dorothy Magdalene (Dalton) Mayle She lived most of her life in Canton and was a 1967 graduate of McKinley Senior High School. She diligently and selflessly worked in the home health care field for ten years, always putting others and family before herself. This extended into her faithful membership at Asbury Chapel AME Church, where she served as Missionary President, Treasurer/Secretary of Church School, member of the Gospel Choir and Historiographer of the Youngstown District. She was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Felder (Velia) Williams; two brothers-in-law, Howard and Kenneth Williams. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Scott Williams; daughter, Candace (Tracy) Lusby; grandson, Theodore Williams; stepson, Shannon Robinson; granddaughter, Tracy (Baby) Lusby; grandson, Jovan Watson, all of Canton: two sisters, Sharon (Phil) Gillespie, Connie (Vernon) Frazier; two brothers, Mike (Vicki) Mayle of Akron, John (Lynn) Mayle; former sister-in-law, Aundry Lusby of Atlanta, GA; five sisters-in-law, Donna Jean Williams, Vicki Frazier, Andrea Jo (Fox) Williams, Denise (Corky) Pledgure, Marsha (Freddie) Williams; two brothers-in-law, Greg Williams, Tommy Williams, all of Canton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Do not weep for me, I lived the life I was given, I loved, I laughed and I cried. I would have lived longer if I had to choose, but the choice was not mine, so, miss me, but do not cry for me. Remember that life never ends, and that I shall live forever in your heart.
