Betty M. Patterson
Betty M. Patterson, age 76, of Canton, died Wednesday evening in Aultman Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Windridge, PA, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell D. Patterson in 1970. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Norcia of North Canton; two sons, Russell and Donald Patterson, both of Canton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Private graveside service will be in Fairview Methodist Cemetery, Windridge, PA. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O. Florence L. Perkins
Florence L. Perkins, God opened His arms on October 2, 2002 and He received me. Florence was born September 18, 1923 in Lafayette, TN and lived in Akron most of her life. She was a member of Canton Deaf Club. She is survived by her husband, Jack and other family members. Funeral service Saturday, 4 p.m. at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron with Pastor Terry Bailey officiating. Cremation will follow service. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 1-4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
Florence S. Schaub
Florence S. Schaub, of Canton, died Thursday after a short illness. Born in Meyersdale, PA., she had lived in Canton since 1935. She received her Bachelors Degree from Mount Union College and her Masters Degree from the University of Akron where she had worked toward her Doctorate. She had also attended the William McKinley School of Law. She retired as a Guidance Counselor and Testing Specialist from Northmor High School near Mount Gilead, Ohio. She was a member of the Ohio Teachers Association, Stark County Retired Teachers Association, National and Ohio Music Teachers Associations, Eastern Star, Canton Sorosis, National and Local A.A.R.P., Mount Union College Women and North East Senior Citizens. Survived by three nieces, Patricia Benedict and her husband, Dustin Bergh of Summerland Keys, FL., Jill Bishop and her husband, Jim of Hialeah, FL., and Pauline Spear of Berlin, PA.; a nephew, Charles Streng of Meyersdale, PA; and several great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Jeanne Schaub in 1969; three sisters, Mary S. Bittner, Edith S. McCrea, and Nellie S. Guiler; and a brother, Paul H. Streng. Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Buckley, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 10-11 a.m.

Josephine M. Jo Lippert, age 88, of Louisville, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Friends may call Sunday from 5-8 p.m. at the Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home in Louisville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Oct. 7, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Fr. John Zuzik as Celebrant. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Leland D. Peterson
Leland D. Peterson, age 94, of North Canton, died Wednesday in Manor Care. He retired from the Timken Co. and was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. Survived by his son, William A. Peterson of North Canton; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother, Raymond Peterson of Medina. Preceded in death by his wife, Camille, Oct. 12, 1999. Private graveside services are planned with Rev. Carolyn Griffeth officiating. Mary E. Kelley
Mary E. (Bachtel) Kelley, 82 of Malvern, formerly of Massillon, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2002 in Minerva Eldercare following a long illness. Born in Massillon, April 3, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Estella (Smith) Bachtel. She retired from Massillon State hospital after 38 years of service as the Secretary to the Superintendent. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Malvern, a former 50 year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a 50 year member of the Massillon Women's Club, a 50 year member of the National Secretaries, a member of the Zoar Community Association, the Wilderness Center, Massillon Southeast Hill/Gang Association, the William McKinley Mental Health Association, the Massillon Heritage Foundation and the Carroll County Humane Society. She is survived by a brother, Earl Bachtel of Massillon; sisters, Rita Pinkie Ringley of Massillon and Theresa Kraft of Malvern. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo F. Kelley in 1980; and a brother, Sylvester Bachtel. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Monday October 7, 2002 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Hall with Celebrant Msgr. John Michael Campbell. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Massillon. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 7-9 p.m. in the Deckman-Bartley Funeral Home in Malvern.

Mildred E. Reusser, age 92, of Orrville, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Born in Sardis, OH, she had been a resident of Orrville for many years. Survived by daughters, Marilyn Ice of Sardis, OH, Wilda Fetty and Martha Maag, both of Orrville; sons, Vernon of Richville, OH, Dean, Paul, David and Dennis, all of Orrville; 25 grandchildren; one step grandchild; 32 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brothers, John and Paul Eisenbarth. Patty Jean Miller
Patty Jean Miller, 66, formerly of Alliance, died Monday, September 30, 2002 at 8:55 a.m. at Rose Lane Health Center in Massillon. Born in Canton on March 22, 1936, she had been a resident of Alliance for over 40 years. She was the former co-owner and secretary/receptionist of H. Cowboy Miller Septic Service from 1964 to 1994. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Louisville Chapter #400 and the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, Kadesh Court #19 of Akron. Survivors include two daughters, Denise L. DeJane of San Diego, CA, and Catherine A. Katie Lacy of Westerville; a foster daughter, Roberta L. Muff Taylor of Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Lou (Ronald) Lash of Canton, Mary Ann Dolak of Canton, Debra (Mark) Shaw of Dellroy; one brother, James R. (Mina Jane) Groetz of Louisville; a sister-in-law, Nancy Rickenbrode of Canton; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were her husband, Harold E. Cowboy Miller on October 25, 1997 (whom she married on July 10, 1959); her parents, Howard J. and Viola H. (Stover) Groetz; and a brother, William H. Groetz. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Sara Hodsden officiating. There are no calling hours. Sarah Elizabeth Seiler, age 21, of 18101 CR 12, Rawson, OH, formerly of Columbus, OH, passed away Monday, Sept. 23, 2002 at 7:45 a.m. in Riverside Hospital, Columbus, OH. She was a student at Ohio State University for three years. She was born on December 13, 1980 in Bluffton, OH to her parents, James R. and Ellen M. (Petro) Seiler. Member of St. Michael Archangel Parish and several National Honor Societies. She attended Jonathan Alder High School in Plain City for two years. She was a 1999 graduate of Cory Rawson High School. Majored in Computer and Electrical Engineering at Ohio State University, National Merit Scholarship Winner, Ohio State University Summa Award Winner and participated in fast pitch softball, volleyball, band, and was the athletic trainer. She worked for the Hancock Co. Park District during the summer and Ohio State University in the Computer Technical Support Dept. Survived by sisters, Anne M. Seiler of Columbus, OH, Mara J. Seiler of Rawson, OH; paternal grandparents, Robert and Wilma Seiler of Rawson, OH; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Janet Petro of Dellroy, OH; maternal great-grandmother, Flora Petro of Minerva, OH, formerly of Canton, OH. Sarah left numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, godson and college friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, September 27th at 10 a.m. in St. Michaels the Archangel Catholic Church-Downtown with Father Michael Hohenbrink officiating. Thomas Morgan
Thomas Morgan, age 75, of North Canton, died Monday, September 30, 2002 at Mercy Medical Center. He was born January 24, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA to Noah and June (Livingston) Morgan. Mr. Morgan served as an executive vice president and branch manager of the Columbus, OH division of Sauer Inc. until his retirement in 1985. He was a past president of both the Mechanical Contractor's Association of Central Ohio and the North Canton AARP Chapter #2894. He was a member of Local 449 Steamfitters of Pittsburgh, PA and the North Canton Elks BPOE #2029. He was also a veteran of WWII who fought in the Solomon Islands with the U.S. Marine Corps. He is survived by his wife, Mary Morgan, of the home; children and their spouses, Mrs. Carole O'Brien of Colorado Springs, CO, Glenn Morgan of Sunbury, OH, Eric Morgan of Circleville, OH, Mrs. Phyllis Nielsen of Marysville, OH; step-daughter, Mrs. Dawn Ann Campbell of Alpharetta, GA; six grandsons; four step-granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mrs. Billie Smith and Mrs. Wynne Ladley, both of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers; two half-sisters and two stepchildren. A private ceremony was half at Union Cemetery in Columbus, OH with military honors. Walter C. Hensley
Walter C. Hensley, age 88, of Canton, OH, passed away Thursday morning at the home following an extended illness. Born in Catlettsburg, KY, on April 12, 1914, he was a veteran of World War II serving as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 387th Infantry Regiment and the 97th Infantry Division. He served in the European Theater, was in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star. He also served in the Occupation of Japan following the war. He was a 1934 graduate of Catlettsburg High School and had attended Marshall College, where he played football for two years. He was a retired employee of Ashland Oil Co., retiring in 1979 after 40 years of service. He was a member and usher at the Canton Baptist Temple, was a member of the Oaks Club in Massillon, member and Past President in 1987 of the Al Koran Shrine, 50 year member of the Elks Lodge in Ashland, KY, 50 year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Covington, KY, member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #235 in Catlettsburg, KY, member of the Imperial Council of Ancient Arabic Order in Ashland, KY and the Al Koran Shrine Trum Drum Massillon Unit. He was a Kentucky Colonel and formerly was involved with the Hotstove Baseball in the Whipple Heights Organization. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ida (Pack) Hensley, also by five brothers, Edgar, Douglas, Robert, Wallace and James Hensley and two sisters, Ruth Wheeler and Audrey Bryan. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gwendolen (Mynhier) Hensley of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Linda Hensley of Carrollton, OH and his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dale Hollinger of Massillon; four grandchildren, Kelly and her husband, Mike Gelske, of Swanton, OH, Stacy Hollinger of Twinsburg, OH, Kristi and Keri Hensley, both of Carrollton, OH; a great-grandson, Tristan Gelske. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Vincent T. Risko Pelkowski
Vincent T. Risko Pelkowski, age 90, of Lake Cable in Canton, passed away Thursday morning, October 3, 2002 in McKinley Health Care Center. He was born in Syracuse, NY on February 16, 1912 to the late Thomas Michlena Pelkowski. Mr. Vince Risko Pelkowski had been a Plant Manager with Barium Steel and then Plant Safety Manager with E.W. Bliss Co. Interested in the world of entertainment, Vince began a long career of promoting boxing, wrestling, and the music industry with his business Vince Risko Enterprises. He promoted stars like Heavy Weight Champion Joe Lewis, worked with Vince McMahn Sr. in the World Wrestling Federation, and worked with the late DJ Alan Freed promoting stars like Jackie Wilson, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Fond of all sports, Vince promoted the Harlem Globe Trotters, was business manager for the Canton Bulldogs in the United Football League which later became the Philadelphia Bulldogs in the Continental Football League, and once promoted the Football Hall of Fame Game. In Canton, he was a promoter of several Broadway Hits including LI'L Abner and Damn Yankees. Kindhearted, Vincent always let the local boy scouts see matches for free by saving whole sections of seating for them in the new memorial auditorium. An art enthusiast, he formed the Greentown Art Gallery. With his son, he raised and bred Arabian Horses. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and of numerous professional organizations including the Ex-News Boys, Optimist Club, and Lake Cable Club. Preceded in death by the wife he adored, Stella in 1998; and his brother, Eddie Babe Risko, former World Middle Weight Boxing Champion. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Richard and Susan Pelkowski of Hartville, granddaughter and spouse, Kerrie and Brian Kuruc of Stow, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Sally and Bill Prusinowski of Syracuse, NY; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Anne Pelkowski of Ocala, FL; and nephews, Bill and Patti Prusinowski of NY, David and Grace Pelkowski of TX, and Jack and Cathy Gocek of GA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 10:00 AM in All Saints Catholic Church with Father Tom Bishop Celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Richard J. Marks
Richard Joseph (Rick) Marks, age 48, of Desert Hot Springs, CA., passed away August 25, 2002 in Desert Regional Medical Center, Palm Springs, CA.,
following a brief illness. Rick was born September 1, 1953 to Joseph R. and Norma J. (Watkins) Marks. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas high School and Akron University with a bachelor of fine arts degree. He moved to California after graduation and for 26 years he worked in the whole sale/retail plumbing business. Starting in the warehouse he worked his way to regional manager. In an effort to simplify his life, he returned a year ago to the role of sales representative for Ferguson Plumbing International. Rick was active with Desert Hot Springs Little League where he served of the board, as equipment manger and umpire. When funds were low, Rick would buy the league needed equipment. His life desire was to be a major league empire. An accomplished artist, he painted in all media. Landscapes of the desert and mountains surrounding his home and Ohio in Autumn were his favorite subjects. Preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Richard Marks; maternal grandparents, Hazel L. Little and Willard M. Watkins and his wife, Fern; step grandfather, Harry L. Myers; sister, Charlyn Marie Marks; and niece, Jenna Shanabarger. in addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Joseph R. Marks; and one daughter, Ashley A. Marks both of Desert Hot Springs; one brother, Chris A. (Thersea) Marks of Louisville; three sisters, Jo E. (R. Michael) Allman of Lugoff, SC., Gina R. (James) Lathan of Elgin, SC., and Tina K. (Mark) Shaheen of Canton; grandmother, Lucille I. Myers of Canton; grandfather, Vincent A. Little Sr of Atwood Lake; and step-grandmother, Antonette Marks of Canton; three nieces, five nephews and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Rick's choice was to be cremated. A memorial service was held August 28, 2002 at Desert Chapel in Palm Springs with Pastor Mark Hackbarth officiating., Rev. Nicholas Mancini will conduct private services at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received Saturday October 5, 2002 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Klocker Hall, Sixteenth and Superior NE. Canton, to view Rick's Paintings and celebrate his life. Charles W. Andrews
Charles W. Andrews, age 83 of Louisville, OH., died on Thursday, October 3, 2002 after a short illness. He was born in Minerva, OH., July 12, 1919 to the late Howard and Gertrude (Tomlinson) Andrews. In 1959 he moved to Louisville, OH. He was retired from Dyneer Inc. and also worked at Buckeye Village Market in Louisville for 11 years. Survivors include his wife, Delores (Magrath) Andrews; a son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Eileen Andrews; a brother, Lester Andrews; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tomye (McCollum) Andrews; a son, James Andrews; sister, Esther Fisher; and a brother, Howard Clayton Andrews. He was a WWII veteran and served in the South Pacific. He was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Louisville, VFW, FOE #2374, Step Lightly Dance Club and Unattaches Dance Group. Memorial services for Mr. Andrews will be 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Peace United Methodist Church, located at 5520 Ravenna Ave NE. Louisville. The family will receive friends from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the church. Flowers may be sent to the home or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
