Alfred Schaal, age 87, of Mechanicstown, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center in Phillippi, WV. Funeral services will be held at the Bartley Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 4. Burial will be in Augusta Cemetery. Informal calling hours will be held on Thursday, afternoon from 2-4 p.m. The family will be present 7-9 p.m.

Arthur F. Barthelmeh
Arthur F. Barthelmeh, age 94, of Canton, passed away Monday morning, September 30, 2002 in the Carroll Healthcare Center. Born April 15,1908 in Baltic, Ohio to the late Jacob and Nellie (Schimmel) Barthelmeh. One of his truest beliefs was \to be honest and try hard to be fair with everyone\. Art was a member of the First United Church of Christ. He graduated from McKinley High School in 1926 and was a Navy veteran serving with the Sea Bee's during WW II. He retired from the U.S. Post Office and was a member of the National Letter Carriers Branch 238. Other memberships include the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Canton Lodge No. 60 F. A.M. Scottish Rite 32nd Degree. Preceded in death by his wife, Ilda M. Barthelmeh on May 13,1996. Also by three sisters, Phyllis E. Barthelmeh, Elsie I. Barthelmeh and Eda C. Boydelatour; four brothers, Judge A.C.L. Barthelmeh, Walter Barthelmeh, Rev. Donald J. Barthelmeh and Paul D. Barthelmeh. He is survived by two step-daughters and spouses, Lois and Dale Schoeppner of East Sparta, Mary Lou and Jay Geckler of Magnolia; six grandchildren, Dan Schoeppner, Lisa Dye, Lori Kerr, Cindy Visnick, Steve Geckler and Stan Geckler; 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Arnold Funeral Home, Canton, with Rev. William Seymour officiating. Interment in North Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Church of Christ Foundation. A Masonic service will be held Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. in the funeral home.
Dylan M. Hawley
Dylan Michael Hawley, age 12, of Clearwater, FL, died Sept. 27, 2002, at All Children Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL. He is survived by his mother, Vickie L. Simak; brother, Dustin (Teresa) Clearwater; maternal grandmother, Shirley Myers of Canton; paternal grandmother, Arlene Holly of Wausau, WI; many aunt, uncles and cousins. Frank E. Slike
Frank E. Slike, age 80, of Canton, OH, passed away Monday morning September 30, 2002, following a brief illness. Born in Clarion, PA, on January 14, 1922 he was the son of the late, Clarence and Ruth Slike, living most of his life in Ohio. He was self-employed as a commercial painter for many years and was a retired employee of Jim Bushman's Aqualine Water Co., retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter and for many years was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Eileen M. Slike of the home; four sons and their wives, James and Cindy of Pennsylvania, Steve and Robin, David, and Frank and Mary Ann all of Florida; one daughter, Heather Sanchez of Georgia; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Gail and her husband, Mark Sterling of Canton and Deborah Royce of Uniontown, OH; two step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Patton officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. George S. Bozeka
George S. Bozeka, age 83, of North Canton, passed away Friday evening in Ohio Veteran's Home after an extended illness. He was a life resident of Canton. He was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. A member of the Canton Ex-Newsboys and Men's Club of the church. He was a graduate of McKinley High School in 1936. He was a retired employee of Republic Steel Corp. where he had been employed for 43 years as general foreman in the combustion dept. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Donna M. (Volzer) Bozeka with whom he would have celebrated 52 years of marriage on Nov. 4, 2002; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Suzanne Bozeka of North Canton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea L. and David Downs of Shelby, OH, George Ann and William Brown of Cincinnati, OH, Theanna and John Orr of North Canton; sister, Miss Angeline Bozeka of Canton; eight grandchildren, Adam and Whitney Downs, Gregory and Nicholas Bozeka, William and Katherine Brown, Patrick and Andrew Orr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esthaios (Steve) and Effthmeia (Kinzios) Bozeka; sister, Nina Hershberger and three brothers, Nicholas, William and Peter Bozeka. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. in St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Pastrikos officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday 6-9 p.m. There will be a Trisiagon Prayer service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Glen W. Moore
Glen Washington Moore, age 81, of Greenleaf Dr., NE, Howland Township died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday at his home following a long battle with Cancer. He was born August 29, 1921 in Canton, OH the son of the late Thomas E. and Ida Mae Kocher Moore and had lived in the Warren area most of his life coming from Canton. He was a well known Warren City Sports Hall of Famer and Canton Aquatic Swimming Hall of Famer. Mr. Moore was an Educator and taught at Troy High School in Troy, Ohio for five years, and then taught at Warren G. Harding High School in Warren for 23 years until retirement. Mr. Moore was a member of the following organizations; Trumbull County Retired Teachers Assn; Ohio Retired Teachers Assn. Kappa Sigma Epsilon-ETA Alumni Assn; Veterans of Foreign War Post 1090 in Warren, OH; U.S. Navy Veteran serving with the Seabees as a Salvage Diver and Welder in the Pacific; Warren City Sports Hall of Fame inductee in 1995; Greater Canton Aquatic Swimming Hall of Fame enshrinee in 1991. He was a 1950 Graduate of Bowling Green University and did post Graduate studies at Bowling Green and Kent State University. He attended North Mar CMA Church in Warren. His wife of 36 years Lucille K. Moore whom he married on Jan. 22, 1946 preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 1984. He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl S. Lee and her husband, Dr. Lamberto T. Lee of Warren, OH, Vicki Mailach and her husband Ken Mailach of Warren, OH; his very special friend of 18 years, Grace Kajtar of Warren, OH; two brothers, Paul Moore of Canton, OH, and Larry Moore of North Canton, OH; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday at Robert H. Roberts-Clark Memorial Home in Warren, with Rev. Myron D. Daum officiating and burial will be in Pineview Memorial Park, Warren, OH.

Paul King
Paul King, 76, of North Canton, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, in St. Luke Lutheran Home. He was born April 24, 1926, in Parnassus, PA., to the late William C. Sr. and Eva (Bakewell) King; and was a Member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church. A member of the North Canton Elks #2029, he was a World War II Marine Veteran where he served in the Pacific Theatre. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Jr., and James King. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce L. (Feller) King; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and David Dutrow of Oklahoma City, OK; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kelly of North Canton and Lorne and Kathy of Wooster; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley High of Reynoldsburg; sisters-in-law, Shirley King of Lower Burrell, PA., and Hattie King Maish of Rantoul, IL; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Sunset Hills Burial Park Chapel with Rev. Richard Scherpenisse officiating, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Northminster Presbyterian Church, 237 W. Maple St., North Canton. Precious Holeman
Precious M. Holeman, age 34, passed away September 27, 2002 at Doctor's Hospital, Massillon. She was born in Tachikawa, Japan and had lived in the Canton Community for more than ten years. She was a member of Canal Fulton Baptist Church. She was the President of the Computer Club and President of the Group Home Council at Echoing Hills Village. She was preceded in death by mother, Janet and sister, Debra Edmondson. She leaves to cherish memories to father, Robert J. Holeman, Sr.; brother, Robert J. Holeman, Jr.; a host of other relatives and special friends who she adored. Funeral services will be held on Thursday October 3, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Rhoden Memorial Home, where Rev. Richard Carpenter
Richard A. Carpenter, Minister of Colonial Heights Christian Church, Former Minister of the North Industry Christian Church, 69, of Kingsport passed away Saturday (September 28, 2002). He was a minister for the past 50 years and a graduate of Milligan College and Southern Baptist Seminary. Dick was preceded in death by Harold Carpenter and Eileen Carpenter. Surviving are his wife, Cynthia Carpenter of the home; sons, Stephen Carpenter, Richmond, VA, David Carpenter, Lexington, KY; step daughters, Wendy Spalding, Cincinnati, OH, Tami Backman, Sacramento, CA; eleven grandchildren; mother, Doris Carpenter, Canton, OH; brothers, Tom Carpenter, Canton, and Larry Carpenter, Indianapolis. Calling hours will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Heights Christian Church. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the church with Ministers Stephen Carpenter and Hugh Thompson officiating. Ruth M. Garner
Ruth M. Garner, age 95, of East Canton, died Sunday evening in Altercare of Louisville, following an extended illness. Daughter of the late Thomas and Eva Lucial (O'Hara) Patterson. She was a Canton and East Canton area resident since 1948; retiring from Stark County Anesthesia Associates in 1972. She was formerly employed by Pennsylvania Bell for 19 years, and Mercy Hospital. Former member of the Fairmont Presbyterian Church. Ruth enjoyed working with ceramics. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Garner in 1978; one brother, Mervyn D. Patterson; and one son, Clarence Earl Yolton Jr. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Earline and Karl Hermann of East Canton; six grandchildren, Winnie Heacock, Dean Yolton, Karla Radabaugh, Vickie Hawkins, Michael Hermann and Susan Finnegan; eight great-grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Myers Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home in East Canton with Manley Pierce officiating. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Woody Wilson, age 84, of Massillon, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2002, in the residence. Born in Fence, WI, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in he U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the Asian and European Theaters. A retired Ironworker, serving as a superintendent for the R.G. Smith Co. Member of the Stark County Gem and Mineral Club. A past president of the Ironworkers Union Local 550 in Canton and an avid Lapidary. Preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters. Survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Stephenson) Wilson, they would have celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary in Nov. 2002; his adoring children, son and daughter-in-law, Woodrow E. and Roberta Wilson of Killbuck, daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Dunn of Twinsburg; grandchildren, Stephanie and Tim Piecuch of Mayfield Village, Woodrow P. and Mandi Wilson of Kentucky, Robert Brian Wilson of Killbuck; three great-grandchildren, Jessica, Morgan and Stanley Piecuch; also numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no funeral service. There will be calling hours Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tree of Life at the Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH or the Stark County Gem and Mineral Club.

Patricia L. Osborne
Patricia L. Osborne, age 61, of Malvern began resting until the resurrection Sunday evening in Doctor's Hospital. Born July 14, 1941 in Buckhannon, WV. She attended the Church of God Saints in Christ. Preceded in death by her father, Roy Barker. Survivors include her husband, James T. Osborne of the home with whom she celebrated 30 years of marriage, her mother, Sinda Barker of Malvern; and one brother, Harry Eugene Barker of Malvern; her children, Stella (James) Stout of Canton, Janet (Bill) Elson of Canton, Venus (David) D-Augistino of North Canton, Lurie (Jim) Hockenberry of Denver, CO, and Johnathon James Osborne of Alexandria, VA; over 100 foster children that she helped raise, her dear friends Stella Philabaum and Janice Woods; and numerous grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
