Anthony Charley, Sr.
Anthony (Tony) Charley, Sr. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Bishop as celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Arlene G. Carney
Arlene G. Carney, age 82, formerly of Bolivar, OH, and more recently residing in Dayton, TN, passed away Friday morning September 27, 2002, in the Rhea County Nursing Home in Dayton, TN, following an extended illness. Born in Canton on December 26, 1919 she was the daughter of the late, Arleigh Robert and Gertrude (Haas) Moore. She had lived the greater portion of her life in the Canton-Bolivar area, moving to Tennessee in 1988. She was a 1937 graduate of McKinley High School and owned and operated the Mill Bar Tavern in Canton, until retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Canton and was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Carney who passed away May 31, 1986. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Brent J. and Mary Carney of Dayton, TN; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Wednesday 12 - 1 p.m.

George S. Bozeka
George S. Bozeka, age 83, of North Canton, passed away Friday evening in Ohio Veteran's Home after an extended illness. He was a life resident of Canton. He was a member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church. A member of the Canton Ex-Newsboys and Men's Club of the church. He was a graduate of McKinley High School in 1936. He was a retired employee of Republic Steel Corp. where he had been employed for 43 years as general foreman in the combustion dept. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Donna M. (Volzer) Bozeka with whom he would have celebrated 52 years of marriage on Nov. 4, 2002; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Suzanne Bozeka of North Canton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea L. and David Downs of Shelby, OH, George Ann and William Brown of Cincinnati, OH, Theanna and John Orr of North Canton; sister, Miss Angeline Bozeka of Canton; eight grandchildren, Adam and Whitney Downs, Gregory and Nicholas Bozeka, William and Katherine Brown, Patrick and Andrea Orr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esthaios (Steve) and Effthmeia (Kinzios) Bozeka; sister, Nina Hershberger and three brothers, Nicholas, William and Peter Bozeka. Services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002 at 11 a.m. in St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Pastrikos officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call Tuesday 6-9 p.m. There will be a Trisiagon Prayer service Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. John C. Sluss
John C. Sluss, age 75, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, sept. 28, 2002. he was born in Louisville, OH Feb. 14, 1927 to the late Ward and Louise (Kloffenstein) Sluss. John was retired from Mahoning Sash and Door. A World War II Army veteran serving with Company C 332nd Engineers. He was a member of Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville, VFW Post #3747 of Canton and was a former member of the Louisville Lions Club. Preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Hagerman, Thelma Sluss and Eunice Atkinson; two brothers, William and James Sluss. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen; a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Terry Stanford of Massillon; a son, Terry Sluss of Louisville; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Norma and Don Smith of Louisville, Susan Lively of Canton; two brothers, Bernard and Richard Sluss, both of Louisville; two grandchildren, Melisa and Ben Stanford. Servicesf will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home, Louisville, with Rev. Dr. Kline Roberts III officiating. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour before the services at the funeral home. Interment in Union Cemetery. Frank L. Papay Sr.
Frank Louis Papay, Sr., 61, passed away during his sleep in his New Philadelphia home on Saturday morning, September 28, 2002. Frank was born at Farrell, PA on July 11, 1941, a son of the late Frank and Anne Weiss Papay. He graduated from Farrell High School and then served honorably in the U. S. Navy. Frank was a financial manager for Beneficial Finance Co. and worked in Cleveland, Akron and New Philadelphia from which he retired in 1998 following 34 years service. Since 2000 he worked with National Real Estate of Pittsburgh. Frank enjoyed playing golf and traveling, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He is survived by his wife, Sue Walton Papay, whom he married May 20, 1995; three sons, Frank L. (Leslie) Papay, Jr. of Canal Fulton, Richard A. Rick (Andrea) Papay of Wadsworth and Kurt Farnsworth of Columbus; one daughter, Kimberly (Rick) Ryland of Norton; five grandchildren, Adam Long, Frank L. Papay, III and Nicholas J. Papay, Richard Papay, Jr. and Bailey Papay. Besides his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Marie Gunther Papay. Calling hours will be on Monday, September 30, 2002 from 6-9 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. Helen B. Hood
Helen Beatrice Hood, age 74, departed this life on Friday, September 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Arbors at Canton Subacute and Rehabilitation Center. Helen Beatrice Hood was born on June 22, 1928, in Canton, OH, to the late Mamie Harris. She confessed Christ
and was a faithful member of People's Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge. She was preceded in death by mother, Mamie Harris; grandparents, Levi Hood and Mary Hood; brother, Troy Harris Jr., Helen Beatrice Hood was a loving mother and grandmother. She leaves to cherish her memories to son, Bill (Butterball) Wyatt of Etiwanda, CA; grandchildren, James Edwards Blakeney, Chancelor (Edrice) Wyatt, both of Canton and Shellie Muhammad of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, James Blakeney Jr., Mustapha, Aliyah, Elijah Muhammad and Nathaniel Wyatt; sister-in-law, Laureen Harris; a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives; church family and special friends. Services celebrating Helen B. Hood being absent from this body and present with the Lord will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. at People's Baptist Church, 701-17th St. SE, where Pastor Walter J.
