Charles Brandstetter
Charles Ed Brandstetter, age 90, of Canton, died early Friday morning in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Bucyrus, OH, he was a graduate of Lakewood High School and the Ohio State University. Ed was an industrial engineer having worked for American Steel Wire in Cleveland, the Hoover Company and retired from Sergebirn Company of Louisville, KY, a Navy Veteran of World War II, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, American Legion, Canton Elk's Lodge and ROA and TROA. Preceded in death by a sister, Helen Forshey and two brothers, Robert and William Brandstetter. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Laura Brandstetter of the residence; daughter, Mrs. William (Louise) Huff of Canton; two sons, Charles (Diane) Brandstetter of Indianapolis, IN and Edward Brandstetter of Moab, UT; granddaughter, Samantha Huff of Canton; brother, Kenneth Brandstetter of East Lake, OH. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2002 in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. John M. Mann officiating. Friends will be received following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 415 Tuscarawas St. W., Canton, OH 44702 or to Faircrest Memorial Middle School Veterans Walks of Honor, 616 Faircrest SW, Canton, OH 44706. Charles F. Bender. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Gaye Santoro officiating. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery. Cleda B. Brill
Cleda B. Brill, age 81, of Canton, passed away Friday, after a brief illness. Her hobbies were, fishing, camping, boating, quilting, cooking and canning. Survived by her husband of 47 years, Ottis L. Brill of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Wanda Villard, Donna and Fred Ray; grandchildren, Michael and Charles Burghy, Mary Daniels, Darlene (husband-David) Ault and Sheila Patton, all of Indiana; nine great grandchildren, Brandy, Mickey, Mariah, and Shannon Burghy, Brittany and Cassidy Solomon, Sage and Drake Ault all of Indiana, B.J. Daniels of Canton; brothers, Russell Colvin of Florida and Perry Colvin of North Carolina; sister, Dorothy Meek of North Canton. There will be no calling hours or services.
Glenwood Grewell
Glenwood Grewell, age 83, of Enon, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2002, in the Greene Oaks Health Care Center. He was born on July 31, 1919 in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the son of the late Albert E. and Mary (Wyant) Grewell. Mr. Grewell attended Canton-McKinley High School and was a graduate of Dover High School, Class of 1937. He served his country in New Guinea and the Phillippines with the U.S. Army Air Corps, 897th Signal Company, Signal Corps during World War II. A retired Electronic Technician from Wright-Patterson AFB with 43 years of service; he was a member of the Yellow Springs Christian Center Assemblies of God; a charter member of the Tuscarawas County Amateur Radio Club, the Clark County Amateur Radio Club, the Quarter Century Wireless Association and was an avid amateur radio enthusiast. Preceded in death by his wife of 52 years on August 22, 2001, Ila (Fair) Grewell; and two brothers, Delbert and Curtis. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and John W. Stover of Enon, OH., Anita and Dale Benedetti of Beaver Creek, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Caroline Grewell of West Carrollton, OH; eight grandchildren, David Fischer, Paul Fischer, Karen Stover, Anne and John Grewell, Joel, Sarah, and Joshua Benedetti; two sisters-in-law, Twila Thomas of Hartville, OH., and Betty Grewell of Navarre, OH; a brother-in-law, C.D. Curly Fair of Beach City, OH; and numerous other family members and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. in the BELTON Funeral Home, Fairborn, OH., with Rev. Ray Tyson officiating. Burial will follow in the Enon Cemetery. James Guthridge
James D. Guthridge, age 71, of North Canton, died Thursday afternoon in his home after a brief illness. Born in Youngstown, son of the late Edgar W. Guthridge, Jr. and Louise Davies Guthridge, he graduated from Chaney High School and Youngstown University with a degree in engineering in 1966 after 13 years of night school. He was a resident of North Canton since 1968, retiring from Berger Division of Republic Storage Systems. Survived by his wife, Pat of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa J. and Gary M. Hessman of North Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, David B. of Dayton, Daniel J. and Jane G. of Denver, James J. and his fiancee, Julie Tweedy, Timothy D. and Lisa H., Casey and Christine S., all of North Canton; ten grandchildren; sister, Joan (William D.) Jones of Columbiana, OH. Preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy D. in 1989. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Karlo Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. James A. Clarke officiating. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery. Jeanette Dearing
Jeanette Dearing, age 87, went home to be with her Lord September 11, 2002. Born in Chillicothe, OH, she was a member of Canton Baptist Temple. Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert, son, Wilbert Jr., one brother and six sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Bruce) Collins; granddaughters, Lora (Richard) Nicholson, Teresa (Dan) Rader and Susan (Tim) Hoffman; great-grandsons, Daniel, Jacob and Levi Rader; and sister, Helen Huffer. The family will receive friends Sunday 2-5 p.m. at the Hecker Funeral Home in Uniontown, where funeral services will be held Monday 10 a.m. with Dr. Harold Henniger officiating. Leslie L. Gadd
Leslie L. Gadd, 52, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002. He was born December 23, 1949, in Warren, OH, the son of Sam and Janet (Younker) Gadd. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Gadd was owner of Custom Weld Corp. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; mother and stepfather, Janet and Ferrell Sherouse; children, Marshall, Christopher, Zachary Taff and Tom Greening; sisters, Karen and Darlene; brother, Larry Foreman; granddaughter, Stacy Jo; and great-grandchild, Kylle. A memorial gathering will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, September 17 at Waltner-Simchak Funeral Home, 2257 Mahoning NE, Canton.
Samuel J. Moldovan
Samuel John (Johnnie) Moldovan, beloved husband and father, died suddenly in his home, Thursday, September 12, 2002. Sam was born in Farrell, PA to George and Helen (Lena) Moldovan. He graduated from Penn State in Music Education in 1953. He was a member of The Blue Band, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Phi Kappa Education Fraternity and Alpha Zita Chapter Sinfonia Music Fraternity. He also served in the Air Force and played trumpet in the Air Force Band. Sam taught music and band in private schools in State College and Chambersburg, PA. After leaving teaching, he worked in sales and advertising for the rest of his life, most recently with W.H.B.C. where he retired in 1999 after 13 years. Sam volunteered all his free time and energy to several bands in the Stark and Summit County areas, including The Clinton Community Band, The Nobleman, What's Next, The Trinity Band and the Polished Brass, his own band. Sam's great loves in his life were his five children, his family and his music. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and George Moldovan and sister, Ann Cromptom. He is survived by his wife, Barbara and his son, Ryan of the home; sons, Dr. Jeffrey (Jan) Moldovan of Hermitage, PA, Kent (Tracy) Moldovan of Columbus, OH; daughters, Kimberly Ryder of Sharon, PA, Lori (Rick) Tennant of New Castle, PA; sister, Jennie Misik of Farrell, PA; grandchildren, Catherine, Rachel, Patrick and Brody; numerous nieces and nephews, his extended family. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in North Canton with Fr. Joseph Rudjak officiating. Friends may call Sunday 5-7 p.m. in the Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home, 4817 Cleveland Ave. NW. Steve S. Bournos. Funeral services will be held Saturday (today) at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Economos John Stavropoulos officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Choir. The family would like to request there be no visitation at the home due to illness.
Wray V. Snider
Wray V. Snider, age 70, of Hartville, passed away Thursday evening, September 12, 2002 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Friends may call Monday 6-9:00 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home, Hartville and 1/2 hour prior to services in the church on Tuesday (10:30-11:00AM). Funeral services will be Tuesday 11:00 AM in the Cornerstone Free Methodist Church, 578 Killian Rd., Akron, with Rev. Charles Young officiating. Final Resting Place is Mount Peace Cemetery.
Michael (Micky) Datsko
Michael Datsko (Micky), 60 of the City of Green passed away Sept. 11, 2002 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and was an active member of both The Goodyear Zeppelin and Canton McKinley Rifle and Pistol Clubs. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; sons Michael and David; sisters, Diana Falke and Nancy Lee (Keith) Cline; brother, John; mother-in-law, Ida E. Goldman and many other friends and family. He was loved by all. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at the Schermesser Funeral Home, City of Green Chapel, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., (Route 619). Calling hours will be Tues. 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Rose Walter
Rose Walter, age 75, of Alliance died at home on September 13. Mrs. Walter was born at home in McGoffin County, Kentucky on April 17, 1927 to Adam and Bessie (Shephard) Watson, and attended Decatur School in Lawrence County, Ohio. She was a licensed Practical Nurse, working in private duty at Alliance Community Hospital and Roker Nursing Home, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church. Survivors include her husband, Gilbert D. Walter of Alliance, whom she married August 19, 1946, sons, Larry A. Walter of Alliance, Gary D. Walter of Canton and William L. Walter of Windlake, Wisconsin; daughters, Helen M. Walter of Alliance, Rose A. Burris of Carrollton and Sarah D. Hatton of Long Beach, California; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth R. Watson of Wheelersburg, Ohio, and William L. Watson of St. Paris Ohio. Her parents, son, Gilbert E. Walter, grandson, Matthew Walter, brothers, Reed, Bud, David, Willie, Kearnie, Adam and Arnold, and sisters, Marie Harris, Connie S. McNeely, Orpha Webb preceded Mrs. Walter in death. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Apostolic Lighthouse Church with Pastor Ralph Blevins officiating. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Monday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Eugene Dykes
Eugene William Bill Dykes, age 85, of Canton, passed on Thursday afternoon, September 12, 2002, following an extended illness at Canton Regency Health Care Center. Born in Oklahoma City, OK, to the late Laurence and Hilma (Thurston) Dykes, he was a member of Unity Church of Truth, he attended Oklahoma State University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in Architecture in 1940 and was president of both Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Intrafraternity Council, Bill was also a Blue Key in Sigma Tau. A Veteran of World War II, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1945-1947 and served under the Army Corps of Engineers as a Firs Lieutenant. Bill was registered by the state of Ohio as an Architect in 1943 and later obtained his NCARB (national) registration in 1964. In 1947 he co-founded, and in 1983 retired from Lawrence, Dykes, Goodenberger, Vandergrift and Clancy Architects. Past chairman of Mayor Cmich's Committee on Human Relations, his local board memberships include, Canton Art Institute, Arts Unlimited, Brookside Country Club (President 1960), Canton Urban League and Pathway House Program. He served on the national boards of Foundation for Ecoonomic Education, where he held the chairman position from 1961-1964, Institute for Humane Studies, Spiritual Frontiers Fellowship and the Curran Foundation. A contributing author of essays and articles, he was published on subjects such as architecture, individual liberty, economics and paranormal. Bill taught at Malone College from 1981-1986 in economics and free enterprise. He also helped guide the college to a national championship in free enterprises competition, winning the foundation award for classroom teaching. He was the first holder of the chair in free enterprise sponsored by the Canton Chamber of Commerce. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by one grandsons, Eric Jones. Survivors include his loving wife, Louise (Whitney) Dykes, whom he married on January 25,1941; three sons and daughters-in-law, Laurence allen and Judith Dykes of Jackson Twp., Gene Whitney and Olivia Mitchelle-Dykes of Philadelphia, PA, Robert Gregory and Virginia Dykes of Columbus, OH; one daughter, Barbara Louise Jones of Middletown, OH; and ten grandcildren. Memorial service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Patricia Lee officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. There will be no burial as his wishes were to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to an organization of your choice.
