Duane O'Quinn
AKRON, Ohio - Duane S. O'Quinn (KB8THV), 72, passed away July 22, 2001. Today is a day to honor a good man, husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. He was a godly man who loved church and his Lord and Savior. Duane was born April 15, 1929, in Haysi, VA and came to Akron in 1952. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, retired from Babcock and Wilcox, and was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple and the Golden Agers. He was also a member of Pioneer Amateur Radio Fellowship (ham radio club), had a green thumb, and enjoyed flowers, gardening, and his computer.
Duane leaves his wife of 50 years, Agnes; children, Sandra K. (Robert) Dilworth of Raleigh, NC, Alan (Cathy) O'Quinn of Akron, Brian (Marie) O'Quinn of Beaverton, OR; grandchildren, Robbie and Ryan Dilworth of Wilmington, NC, Sara O'Quinn of Akron; brothers, Lanis (Lil) O'Quinn of Uniontown, Donnie O'Quinn of Akron; sister, Lois (Ronnie) Newell of Mogadore; and brother-in-law, Rudy Cain. He was preceded in death by his parents, Holiday and Bertha O'Quinn; and sister, Arbutus Cain.
Friends may visit at the Bacher Funeral Home, 3326 Manchester Rd. on Wednesday July 25, 2001 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday July 26, 2001 from 10 to 11 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m., Rev. Edith M. Davis
NORTON, Ohio - Edith M. Davis, 82, passed away February 29, 2008.
Edith was born in Kent, Ohio on August 26, 1925. She and her husband owned and operated Mike’s Urns and Novelties for many years. Edith liked artistry and was especially talented in drawing. She was also involved in the Penn/Ohio Model A Ford Car Club.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Michael T. Davis; her parents, Fredrick and Edith “Margaret” Fink and brothers, Lloyd and Ralph Fink.
She is survived by her sons, Fred (Norma) Davis and Michael Joe (Karen) Davis; grandchildren, Michael Jeff Davis, Jennifer Queener, Brian and Tim Davis; great-grandchildren, May, Aiden and Preston.

Edward Barath
GREEN - Edward Barath, 94, went home to be with the Lord and his loving wife, Elizabeth, on March 1, 2008. He was born August 9, 1913 in Akron, to the late William and Helen Barath. He retired as a foreman from B.F.Goodrich, Aerospace Division, after 42 years of service. Edward was a member of the Foreman’s Club at B.F. Goodrich, and a longtime member of The Chapel, where he faithfully served as a deacon, usher, and as a member of hospital visitation groups. Mr. Barath wanted to be remembered by his family as a kind father, grandfather, and brother.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Elizabeth, and his brother Bert. He is survived by his son, Edward A. (Nona) Barath; brothers, Albert (Pat) Barath, Kenny Barath, and Donald (Jean) Barath; sisters, Irene Pico, Thelma (Joseph) Jacob, Viola Stevens, Ruth (Steve) Beres, Evelyn Konya, and Elnore Kovach; sister-in-law, Jeanette Barath; grandchildren, Michael (Linda) Barath, Tammy (Bret) House and Karen (Joseph) Distelhorst; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express special thanks to his granddaughter Karen for her loving care, and also Hospice Visiting Nurse Service, for their care of Edward.

Effie (Jan) Starcher
Effie “Jan” Starcher, 80, went home to be with the Lord on December 22, 2007. She was born October 3, 1927 in Akron. She had worked as an accountant and was a member of Akron Baptist Temple where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was Superintendent of the Searchers Department.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ally Pursley; and brother, Virgil Pursley. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald; daughters, Sheryl Starcher and Patricia (Mark) Hamrick; sister, Sadie Wilson; grandchildren, Sara and Amanda.

Eileen Gaston
Eileen Gaston, 81, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 1, 2004. She was born April 8, 1923 in Richwood, WV. She was a beautician and managed her own beauty shop for many years. Eileen was happiest when she was serving others and her church. She was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple and a choir member for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Golden Agers, and helped with the nursing home ministry. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was loved and will be greatly missed.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Clark and Ruth Stalnaker; brothers, Glenn and Lee; and sister, Juanita. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Dale; sons, Ron (Brenda) Gaston, Larry (Shirley) Gaston; daughter, Valerie (Al) Houpt; brother, Arlo Stalnaker; grandchildren, Renee, Wendy, Ondrea, and Brian; great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Dylan, Austin, Conner, Noah, London, and unborn grandson, Micah. Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.”

Elizabeth Savick
Elizabeth Savick, 92, passed away Feb. 12, 2006.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; son, Jack; and grandson, Perry. She is survived by her daughter, Judith (Pete) Goda; daughter-in-law, Frances Savick; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elsie F. Oldaker
Elsie F. Oldaker, 73, went home to be with the Lord on February 3, 2006 after a brief battle with cancer. Elsie retired from Firestone and was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple for many years. She was an active member of AARP and enjoyed their luncheons. An avid seamstress, she also enjoyed flower gardening, but mostly she loved the time spent with her family.
Elsie was preceded in death by husband, Jack E. Oldaker; daughter, Pamela Sue; and brother, Paul. She is survived by her children, Richard (Janet) Huckels, Kathy Steiner, and Jeffrey Oldaker; grandsons, Kenneth Sayers III, Jason Steiner, Shawn Steiner, and Devin Huckels; great-granddaughters, Layla and Alexis Steiner; sisters, Betty McHood and Audrey (Merril) Lovelace; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family extends special thanks to Denise Lyons and Wendy Duncan of Hospice for their home visits and acts of kindness.

Eric L. Stamp
Eric L. Stamp, 36, of Norton, passed away January 12, 2008. He was born May 2, 1971 in Barberton, Ohio to Jim and Margaret Stamp. Eric graduated from Norton High School, worked for The Donor Care Center as a Director of Operations and was a member of Lakeview United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his parents, James and Margaret; brother, Shawn (Lisa) Stamp; sister, Heather (Eric) Tilson; grandparents, Betty Boski of Naples, Florida and Elmer Stamp of Winona, Ohio; nephew, Stephen and niece, Michelle.

Ernest G. Vargo
Ernest G. Vargo, 79, of Akron, passed away July 11, 2004.
He was born February 20, 1925 in Tunkhannock, PA, and served in the Korean War. He worked as a mason for over 30 years in Akron where he constructed his own home, raised a family, and retired. His dedication and sense of humor will be missed.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Theresa Vargo; brothers, Julius, Michael, Joseph; and sister, Grace. He will be greatly missed by his dear wife of 48 years, Olga (Jean); sons, Jeff and Gary; daughter-in-law, Laura; granddaughter, Amber; brother, James; sisters, Rose, Margaret, Ethel, and Gladys; and many nieces and nephews.

Eugene Athens
Eugene Athens, 86, passed away Jan. 19, 2006. He was in the Infantry in World War II, employed by Alside Inc., and was member of American Legion Post No. 281 and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Eugene was preceded in death by his son, Leslie, and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Margaret; son, Harry; daughter-in-law, Sylvia; grandchildren, Teresa (John) Murray, Leslie II, Jessica (Clayton) Gault; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Gault.

Evelyn Jones
AKRON, Ohio - Evelyn Jones, 87, passed away April 13, 2006. She was born Dec. 17, 1918 in West, Texas. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolutionary War. Evelyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Manuel; and two baby sons.
She is survived by daughter, Judy (Rick) Bruno; son, John (Cindy) Booker; grandchildren, Luke (Shawna) Bruno, Tiffany (Nate) Leonard, Jennifer (Brian) Bowman, Michael (Kristen) Booker; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mae Nell Booker; brother, Harry (Jane) Williams; many nieces and nephews.

Florine Harkins
Florine Harkins, 86, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on June 1, 2004 at South Central Regional Medical Center, Laurel, Mississippi. She was born August 27, 1917 in Somerset, KY. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Florine was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Harkins. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William P. and Dee Medley; sisters, Pauline Ahlers of Bloomington, IL, and Wanda Lindus of Akron; grandchildren, William J. Medley of Raleigh, NC; Lona Hill of Jacksonville, FL, and Aida Florine Fontenot of Opelousas, LA; and five great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held for the family at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
