Arbra W. Kieffer
Arbra W. TED Kieffer, age 90, passed away on Sept. 6, 2002 in Bradenton, Florida. Ted was born in Vienna, West Va., but after his family moved to Akron, Ted graduated from East High School. He attended Akron University, trained with Goodyear, became a member of the Goodyear Squadron and was employed with Goodyear for 14 years. Ted also served with the U.S. Navy for a short time during World War II. In 1947 Ted founded Kieffer Motor Sales in Massillon, OH and was a Studebaker, DeSoto, Chrysler and Plymouth dealer there until 1965. He later worked for Sisler Buick and Sisler Ford, and left as its Vice President in 1982, when he retired with his wife to Bradenton, FL. While in Bradenton, Ted was employed with the WalMart Corp. for 14 years. Ted was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Joppa 666 Lodge in Akron. He attended St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Massillon, and was also a member of Brookside Country Club in Massillon. Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Charlotte Kieffer of Bradenton, FL; daughter, Karen Kieffer of Ocala, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Laurie Kieffer; and granddaughter, Brooke, of Portage Lakes; sister, Pauline McNeal of Philadelphia, PA.; and brother, Neal Beachy of Bradenton, FL. There will be no calling hours. A memorial Service will be held at a later date and time. Shannon Funeral Home Westview Chapel, Bradenton, FL. is handling arrangements.

Carrie Alice Ritchie
Carrie Alice Ritchie, age 73, of Canton, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2002 in Aultman Hospital. Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late William Dutch and Violet Kirkman. She was retired from the Hoover Company in 1989 and was a member of First Assembly of God Church. She loved camping, flowers and was a loving mother. Preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her husband, Robert, to whom she was married 53 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Kathy of Canton, Jack and Brenda of East Canton; six daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Timothy Rexrode of Canton, Patricia and Mike Neice of Florida, Karen and Kenneth Harsh of Canton, Deborah Ritchie of Canton, Rebecca and Carl Lawson of Carrollton, Virginia and Mark Conrad of Canton; three brothers; three sisters; eleven granddaughters; 13 grandsons; ten great-granddaughters; 11 great-grandsons; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Earl B. Jack Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Shamblin officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. or one hour prior to services.

Daniel E. Webster
Daniel E. Webster, age 71, of Louisville, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002, at Green Meadows Health Wellness Center in Louisville. He was born in Carroll County, OH, July 30, 1931, to the late Samuel and Lula (Roudebush) Webster. Daniel was retired from Republic Steel and was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisvillle. He served on the Hospitality Committee at the church and was a member of the carpenter's group at the church. He was also a member of the Washington Township Ruritans and the Reunion Committee at Augusta High School, Class of ‘49. He was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Webster, a sister, Loujetta Lihi, a grandson, Joshua Webster. He is survived by his wife, Patti J. (Bolender) Webster; two sons and daughter-in-law, Randy and Justine Webster of Minerva, Jeffery Webster of Canton; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Karen Princehorn of Navarre, Douglas and Kathy Princehorn of Massillon; a brother, Oscar Webster of East Palestine; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Paradise United Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Kline Roberts III officiating. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Stier-Israel Funeral Home of Louisville, and one hour before services on Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Louisville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paradise United Church of Christ in Louisville.

Dr. Charles E. Guscott
Dr. Charles E. Guscott, Professor Emeritus of Malone College, died Sunday morning, Sept., 8, 2002, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home following many years with Parkinson's disease. Dr. Guscott was a graduate of Jefferson High School in 1946, Eastern Nazarene College in 1953 and received his doctorate in Elementary Education from Akron University. He was a member of Kappa Delta Pi fraternity for educators, active in several educational organizations: Ohio Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, Ohio Council for Elementary School Science and Right to Read programs. A dedicated Christian, Dr. Guscott was a member of First Friends Church of Canton, Professor of Elementary Education at Malone College for 27 years, former teacher and principle at the Ashtabula and Geneva City Schools, Army veteran from 1946-49. In addition to his parents, George H. and Esther A. Guscott, Dr. Guscott was preceded in death by his two brothers, George H. Guscott, Jr. of Mt. Dora, FL and Arthur E. Guscott of North Kingsville, OH. Dr. Guscott was a loving husband to his wife of 49 years, Jeanette (Brake) Guscott of the residence; devoted father to his daughter, Rebecca (Douglas) Hughes of Columbus, OH and son, Dean (Tracey) Guscott of Seattle, WA and devoted grandfather to his seven grandchildren. Funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in First Friends Church of Canton, 5455 Market Ave. N., with Pastors Mark Engle and James Mason, visitation minister of Sugarcreek Free Methodist Church. Interment in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. and one hour prior to the service (10-11 a.m.) Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Guscott Endowed Scholarship Fund at Malone College, 515 25th St. NW, Canton, OH 44709. Spiker-Foster-SHRIVER Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Huryn
Irene Huryn, 83, died Sunday September 8, 2002 at the House of Loreto. She was born in Akron and had been an area resident for her entire life. She was employed as an executive secretary to the president of Polsky's Department Store for over 24 1/2 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Paul Ladies Guild, the NCCW, Polish American Club Ladies Auxiliary, Polsky's retirees, K of C Wives Council #3410, was a former member of the Firestone Park Prime Timers and was a 50 year member of the Bridge Club. She was also a graduate of North High School. Mrs. Huryn was preceded in death by her husband, Michael in 1979 and her parents, Chester and Bernice (Krezminska) Murawski and brother, Stanley Murawski; and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Eileen of Canton; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Richard DuFala of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren, Christopher (Leslie) Huryn of Cuyahoga Falls, Kathleen (Simon) Rothman of Palo Alto, CA., Anne Marie Huryn of Canton, Nicholas Huryn of New York City, and Chelle (Paul) Kassabian of Wakefield, RI; great grandchildren, Sam, Jake and Natalie Huryn and Ardemis Kassabian; brother, Arthur (Joan) Murawski of Glenview, IL; sisters, Cecilia Wolfe of Tucson, AZ and Jane (Richard) Inama of Fairlawn. Funeral services will be held Thursday 9:30am at the Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, 95 W. Waterloo Rd., and 10:00am at St. Paul Catholic Church. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home where a Ladies Guild Rosary will be held Wednesday 7:30pm. Julius H. Gaskell
Julius H. Gaskell, 83, formerly of Canton died September 5, 2002 in Daytona Beach, FL. He was born and raised in Canton and moved to Florida in 1965. Julius was a retired postal worker. He was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in Pearl Harbor. Preceded in death by his son, Julius Jr. He is survived by one brother, Oliver Gaskell of Canton; son Timothy of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Denise Metzger of Orange City, FL., and Rhonda Cunningham of Orlando, FL. Also survived by three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Julius will be Remember in prayer at the lunchtime rosary, 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday September 11, 2002 in the Chapel at St. Raphael Center, 4365 Fulton Dr., NW, in Canton. Friends are welcome.

Mary Ann Yoder
Mary Ann Yoder, age 41, of Suwanee, GA, passed away on September 7, 2002. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Harry E. and Anna Yoder of Massillon, OH. Mary is survived by brothers, sisters-in-law and their children, Jerry and Genie Yoder, Salem, SC, Julie Yoder, Washington, DC, Brad Yoder, Clemson, SC, Tom and Pat Yoder, Lawrenceville, GA, Angie Yoder, Tucker, GA, Rose Braun, W. Palm Beach, FL, Chris, Beth and Kristin Yoder, Suwanee, GA, Kenny and Kathy Yoder, Massillon, OH, Chuck and Ruth Yoder and their children and grandchildren, George Yoder, FL; sister-in-law, Gerry White, Mt. Gilead, OH and family. Mary joined SCM Group in July 1994 and through out her career worked in all areas of the company in multiple capacities. Mary was Trade Show Manager for SCM until her illness prevented her. Mary served on the Association of Woodworking Furnishings Suppliers Trade Show Committee and the WMIA Program Committee. A graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2002 in Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton, OH. Mary H. Acker
Mary H. Acker, age 84, of Canton, died Monday, September 9, 2002, in her home. Funeral services are pending at the Karlo Sons Funeral Home.

Paul Allen Byrd
Paul Allen Byrd, age 42, of Canton, died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born July 24, 1960 in Canton, he was a member of Laborers' Local #1015. Preceded in death by his father, Dennis Byrd Sr. Survivors include three sons, Paul William Byrd, Kevin James Byrd and Bradley Allen Byrd all of West Virginia; his mother and step father, Catherine and Kenneth James Grimm of Canton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise and Gary Dancy, Lisa and John Jones all of canton; and one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis Jr. and Melanie Byrd of West Virginia. There are two step brothers and sisters-in-law, John E. and Susan Grimm of Waynesburg, Kenneth Grimm Jr. of Ohio; one step sister, Diana Kole of Massillon and numerous nieces and nephews also surviving. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home.

Paul W. Albrecht
Paul W. Albrecht. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Martin Luther Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Larry Houff officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Calling hours at the Reed Funeral Home on Tuesday evening 7-9 p.m. and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m.

Peggy Lynn Huston
Peggy Lynn Huston (Berardelli), age 44, of Canton, went to be with the Lord, Sunday night, September 8, 2002 surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. She was born in Canton on October 18, 1957 to Melford and Mary (Medley) Huston and was a graduate of Canton South High School. Preceded in death by her father, Melford. She is survived by her daughters, Angela Huston, and Jessica Barlow; son, Jeremy Barlow; mother, Mary Huston all of Canton; grandchildren, Catlyn, Troy, Weston, and Justin; sister, Cathy Mastronai of Texas; and brother, David Huston of South Carolina. Friends may call Wednesday 6:00-9:00 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday 1:00 PM in the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Scheck II officiating. Final Resting Place is Forest Hill Cemetery.

Rose Darrah
Rose Darrah, 78, of 1145 Shady Lane Ashland, OH., died Sunday evening, September 8, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. She was born in Canton, Ohio, on September 23, 1923, to Matthias and Rosina Brenner Moser. Rose had been a resident of Ashland for the past eight years moving here from Louisville, Ohio. She was a homemaker. Rose was a charter member of the East Canton Church of God and served her church as a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Director, held various offices in the Ladies Missionary Society, and served on the Board of Christian Education. While living in Ashland she attended the Ashland Brethren in Christ Church. On December 25, 1941, she was married to Louis Quinton Darrah who preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister and three brothers. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cherie Helterbridle of Ashland; Kathy and Michael Roman of Alliance, Ohio and Wendy Rose and Pastor Mark Hunt of Canton, Ohio; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Michael Moser of Crandal, IN. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. in the East Canton Church of God with the Rev. James L. Snyder and the Rev. Mark Hunt officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, Ohio. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the services at the East Canton Church of God. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Kathy Roman Kidney Dialysis Fund in care of Charter One Bank, 780 West State St., Alliance, OH 44601. Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Samuel Levin
Samuel Levin, age 87, of Canton, passed away Monday, September 9, 2002 in Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Canton, Ohio on March 28, 1915 to the late Ben and Elsie (Rumsch) Levin and was a 1934 graduate of McKinley High School. He was the owner of Sammy's Service Station and an associate of Canton Wood Products. Samuel was a member of Shaaray Torah Synagogue and Agudas Achim Congregation where he served as president for seven years. Sam was very active in Canton's sports scene. In 1936, Sam was co-founder of the Canton Fumble Ball League and led his team's, Sammy's Ashland Service, Sammy's Service and Canton Jewish Center to fumbleball champsionships seven times during four decades. He continued in his sports involvement coaching youth in the Canton Jewish Center little leagues. In recognition for contributions as a player, coach, and community involvement, Sam was inducted into the Canton's Fumble Ball Hall of Fame and the Canton Jewish Center's Hall of Fame. Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Della; son, Jerry Levin; and sisters, Rose Carnes and Alice Perlman. Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Doree and Bernie Hafner of Canton; and siblings, Ida Cherkasly, Dorothy Friedman, Sylvia and Max Weisbrod, Charlotte and Bud Art, and David Ruth Levin all of Canton; grandchildren, Eddie and Allyson Hafner, Lori and Doug Wagner; and great-grandchildren, Britt and Blaine Hafner, and Stefan and Whitney Wagner. Funeral services will be held (today) Tuesday 3:30 PM in the Arnold Funeral Home with Cantor Bruce Braun officiating. Final Resting Place is Canton Hebrew Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shaaray Torah Synogogue or Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Vincent DeCicco
Vincent DeCicco, age 73, of Canton, died Sunday morning in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on June 1, 1929 in the Bronx, New York City and had resided in the Canton area most of his life. He retired from the Timken Company where he was employed for many years as a machinist. Mr. DeCicco was of the Catholic Faith and was a member of North Canton Eagles Lodge #2223. He was preceded in death by his father, Carmine DeCicco and his mother, Angela DeCicco who died on Sept. 6, 2002. He is survived by two daughters, a brother, Joseph DeCicco of Navarre; two nieces and 2 grand-nephews. Graveside services with be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Father Joseph Zamary officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements by the Reed Funeral Home.

Violet Poppy Sigler
Violet Poppy Sigler. Visitation today 6-8 p.m. from the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday September 11, 2002 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Memorial donations may be made in her name to a favorite charity. Interment will be at Sunset Hills Burial Park.

Lee F. Gasser
Lee Frederick Gasser, age 46, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 6, 2002. He was born September 22, 1955 and was a life resident of Canton, Ohio. He graduated in 1975 from Southgate School and was employed by the Stark County MRDD. In the past twenty-five years he had worked at the Southgate location, West Stark and most recently, Whipple-Dale Centre. He attended the Church of the Master in Canton. Lee was a light in the many lives he touched. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many people who knew him in his neighborhood and at his job. He was a collector of many things and especially loved cars. Lee was preceded in death by his father, Russell in 1980; and is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy Gasser of Canton; sisters; Myrna Hammerly and Tina Gasser, both of Canton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale (Mitch) Gasser of Oklahoma, Roy Gasser, Walt (Michele) Gasser, Daniel Gasser and David (Michelle) of Canton; nephews, Wayne (Kim) Gasser of Georgia; Joshua Hammerly of Canton; nieces, Melissa Gasser of Oklahoma, Arianne and Sheridyn Gasser of Canton.

Lucinda G. Harris
Lucinda G. Harris passed away at Mercy Medical Center. Services celebrating the earthly life of Mrs. Harris and the transition into eternal life will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, where Rev. Kirby Freeman will be officiating. Visitation will take place TONIGHT from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to and the procession will form from 5822 Longview Avenue, Massillon, OH 44646. Interment at North Lawn Cemetery.
