Ada Grace Sams
Ada Grace Sams, age 78, of Canton, passed away Tuesday morning September 3, 2002 in the comfort of her home. She was born in New England, West Virginia on May 4, 1924 to the late Matthew Hannah Jane (West) Briggs. Ada held her family close and dear to her. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Sams on September 28, 1975; and 2 sisters, Martha Beam and Florence Schmidt. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ernest N. Sams; daughters and sons-in-law, Laverna Eddie Kirkman of East Canton, Louella Jimmy Johnson of Canton, and Barbara Daugherty of Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Lou Sams of East Canton, Ernie Sams of Canton, and Doyle Patricia Sams of Canton; 14 Grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Simmons and Rose Zetta Beam both of Belpre, OH, Donna Delmer Drake of Tacoma, WA, and John Schmidt of Washington, WV; brother, Lawrence Briggs of Orville, OH; aunt, Ethel Dye of West Virginia; and sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Bunch of TN. Andrew Kirkpatrick
Andrew J. Kirkpatrick, age 69, of Canton, died Monday in his home after a long illness. Born in Spangler, PA. He lived in Canton most of his life. He retired from Diebold in 1986 and then worked for the Canton City Schools until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Massillon K of C NO. 554. He was a US Army Veteran and served in the 11th Airborne. Survived by his wife, Emily (Anderson) Kirkpatrick; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and P.J. Lamiell of Canton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Katherine Kirkpatrick of Massillon, Gerald and Linda Kirkpatrick of Canton; eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Heather, Kristen, and Caroline Kirkpatrick, and Paul III, Kelly, Kristine and Andrew Lamiell; his mother, Genevieve Kirkpatrick of Hastings, PA; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Carole Kirkpatrick of San Antonio, TX., Charles and Edna Mae Kirkpatrick of Johnstown, PA., Dr. Joseph and Elizabeth Kirkpatrick of Lancaster, OH., and Paul and Veronica Kirkpatrick of Lucerne Mines, PA. Preceded in death by his father, Clement Kirkpatrick; and a brother, Vincent Kirkpatrick. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Bernard H. Baum
Bernard H. Baum, age 91, of Magnolia, passed away Tuesday morning in Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston. He was born in Waynesburg, a son of the late Enoch and Alma Howenstine Baum, and was a life resident of the Magnolia-East Sparta area. Mr. Baum retired in 1971 from The Timken Co., after 30 years service, where he was a machinist in Dept. #60. He was a member of East Sparta United Methodist Church; a 60 year member of Caldwell Lodge #330, F. A.M. in Bolivar; also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton; Nazir Grotto; Pike Grange; and the Farm Bureau. Preceded in death by his wife, Reva M. Baum, on September 6, 1991. Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Betty Baum, of Magnolia; three grandchildren, Dan Baum and his wife, Robin, Doug Baum, and Debbie Baumgardner and her husband, Joe; three great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Verna Mowls, of Punta Gorda, FL., Agnes Baum, of Dalton, and Hilda Baum, of Solon, OH. Services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in the Finefrock-Gordon Funeral Home in Magnolia with Rev. Nancy Manner officiating. Interment in Sandy Valley Cemetery. Carol J. Gadow
Carol J. Gadow, age 57, of Canton, died Monday evening at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Services, Akron, OH, following a brief illness. She was born on August 3, 1945, in Bellaire, OH, and had resided in the Canton area most of her life. She was graduated in 1963 from Timken High School and had been employed by Ohio Bell Telephone Company, Knights Inn and most recently by Key Bank, retiring in 1997. Carol was an active member of the 38th Street Church of Christ and Four Square Good Sam Camping Club. She is survived by her husband, Alfred (Bill) Gadow, to whom she was married on May 6, 1967; her sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Christina Gadow of Canton and Joseph and Rachel Gadow of Massillon; her grandchildren, Cara, Caleb, Quinn and Bailey Gadow; and her parents, Joseph and Ella Mae Phillips of Canton. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the 38th Street Church of Christ with Mr. Lance Lindenberger officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church, which is located at 3904 38th St. N.W., Canton. Charles J. Crum
Charles J. Crum, age 83, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday morning in Oakhill Manor. He was born in Noble County, OH, resided in Canton many years and then to Lakeland, FL, for 30 years, returning to Louisville one year ago. Mr. Crum was retired from The Hoover Co., with over 20 years service, where he worked in the Parts Dept. He also loved to repair lawn mowers. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Survived by his wife, Laura Fae Crum; one daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Jim Bresson, of Canton; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Janet Crum, of Massillon; three grandchildren, Jamie Crum, Jennifer Copeland and her husband, Don, and Janet Barnhart; two step-grandchildren, John Bresson and Linda Borgstede; one great-granddaughter, Jasmine Gibson; one sister, Mildred White, of Lakeland, FL; two brothers, Lawrence Crum, of Canton, and Robert Crum, Byesville, OH; two nieces, Leota Lindsey, of Canton, and Manoela Cappadona, of Elkhart, IN; one nephew, R.H. Thorla, of Akron; and five great-nephews, Lawrence Dillworth, Curtis, Kevan and Jon Lindsey, and William Thorla. According to Mr. Crum's wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no calling hours or services. He will be greatly missed and loved by his family.
Charles Salimbeni
Charles V. Salimbeni, age 54, of Canton, passed away in Aultman Hospital after a sudden illness. Pending funeral arrangements. The full obituary will be published in Thursday's paper. Calling hours are being planned for Friday 10-11 a.m. The Rossi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
David Polen
David Polen, age 71, of Malvern, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in Aultman Hospital following a long illness. He was born March 10, 1931, in Salineville, OH, to Paul A. and Ruby (Frazier) Ploen. He retired from Diebold's as a brake operator and had also worked at Kopp Clay. He was a Navy veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife and companion, Rena (Boto) Polen; four daughters, Jan Fisher of East Liverpool, Connie Vanover of Whitley City, KY, Debroah Yost of Malvern, Shari Smith; two sons, Larry Fairchild of Patterson and David Polen Jr.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Irene Buzzard; a brother, Larry Ploen. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in the Gotschall-Hutchison Funeral Home in Minerva. Burial will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be held Wednesday 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home.
Dina M. Corsey
Dina M. Corsey, age 91, of North Canton passes away in Aultman Hospital after a sudden illness. She was born in Berwind, WV., and has resided in the Canton and North Canton area since 1922. She was a former employee of Suarez Corp as a Mail Clerk. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Corsey on August 8, 1968. He was the founder of Canton Exnewsboys Organization; her parents, Anthony and Assuntina Boninsagna; brother, Dino Boninsagna; four sisters, Amelia Bonfile, Edgar Pucci, Lela Garafolo and Jesse Ronchen. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Cesar Suarez with whom she made her home with in North Canton; a niece, Susan Pucci of Canton; and great nephew, Dylan Sutton; also a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday September 6, 2002 at 1 p.m. in the ROSSI FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Fr. Tom Bishop officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Canton Exnewsboys Assoc.

Florence Jones
Florence Jones, age 95, of Brunswick, OH, passed away Sept. 2, 2002. She was born Aug. 20, 1907 in Massillon, OH. Survived by daughter, Ruth Sedlock of Brunswick; and seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ida (Yingling) Koehn, daughter, Marilyn Zandt Craig, husband, Leroy Toots Jones. Linda LeMay
Linda LeMay, age 57, of Las Vegas, NV, passed away Monday, September 2, 2002, in the home. Born in Canton, OH, July 13, 1945, and was a resident of Canton until 1976. Donations appreciated to the American Heart Association. Survivors include two brothers, David LeMay in Henderson, NV, Rick LeMay of Las Vegas, NV; long time friend, Bettie Boyd of Las Vegas, NV. Patrick McWilliams
Patrick E. McWilliams, age 64, of Navarre, OH, passed away Monday evening in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Canton on March 5, 1938 he was a veteran having served in the Ohio Army National Guard. He was a retired employee of the Hoover Co., retiring after 34 years of service. He attended the Brewster Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Martha A. McWilliams who passed away March 10, 1996. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick Scott and Lisa McWilliams of Canton and Bryan and Kim McWilliams of Navarre; two brothers, David McWilliams of Millerburg, OH, and Paul McWilliams of Massillon, OH; a sister, Iris Reed of Navarre, OH; five grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Kerri Samantha and Zachary McWilliams. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. James Dittmar officiating. Burial willb e in the Welty Cemetery in Beach City. Robert Carl Miller
Robert Carl Miller, age 91, of Third St., Carrollton, died Tuesday morning, September 3, 2002 in Carroll Health Care Center after an extended illness. He was born August 8, 1911, in Carrollton, OH, son of the late Jason C. and Nova L. Grunder Miller. He was employed by Metropolitan Brick, Natco Brick Yard, East Canton in production control for 38 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jetta Mae Hemming. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Judy) Abel of Carrollton, OH and Barbara Crim of Carrollton, OH; one son, Robert D. and Maxine Miller of Brandon, FL; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be Friday, September 6, 2002 at 11 a.m. in Westview Cemetery, Carrollton, with Pastor Robert Miller officiating. Ronald Earl Martin
Ronald Earl Martin, age 63, of Malvern, OH, formerly of North Canton, died Monday, September 2, 2002 at Aultman Hospital from a long battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Born July 13, 1939 in Mineral City, OH to Thomas H. and Ethel R. (Diehl) Martin of Bolivar, OH. He was a 1957 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, New Philadelphia, OH, received an Associate Degree in Business Management and Law Enforcement from Stark Technical College of Stark County and his Business Management Degree from Akron University, Akron, OH. He retired from Timken Co. of Canton where he was a supervisor at Timken Research and Development at North Canton, OH. He also was a North Canton auxiliary police officer and was presently working part time for the Naples Daily News, Naples, FL, in the Single Copy Division. He was an Army veteran and was serving in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He had attended the Mayflower United Church of Christ in Naples, FL and was a member of AARP. Survived by his wife, Linda S. (West) Martin whom he married November 17, 1962; sons, Timothy and his wife, Christina Martin of Canton, OH and Ronald E. and his wife, Deb Martin of Big Prairie, OH; grandchildren, David, Daryl, Courtney and Savannah Martin of Canton, OH, Justin, Brandon and Dana Martin, of Big Prairie, OH; three brothers, Tom and his wife, Mary Ann Martin of Mineral City, OH, Jeff and his wife, Marsha Martin of Dover, OH and Dan and his wife, Gloria Martin of Bolivar, OH; one sister, Dawn and her husband, Fred Butts of Coshocton, OH; mother-in-law, Doris West of New Philadelphia, OH. Preceded in death by a brother, Karl Martin. Sarah B. Day
Sarah Beulah Day, having lived in three centuries, died Monday afternoon in the House of Loreto. Born April 21, 1897, in Ellisburg, NY, to Sarah Jane Hawthorne (Aug. 9, 1865, Port Hope, Ont.) and William James Wright (March 4, 1866, Ganonoque, Ont.) who married Nov. 4, 1888 in Ellisburg, NY. Mrs. Day graduated from Sandycreek High School in 1916 and University State of New York at Sandycreek Aug. 1, 1919 with a teaching certificate. She taught at the Landings School a one room building for eight years, she being the only teacher. She relied on her Icelandic pony Dandy for transportation to the building from Ellisburg in all types of weather using either a cutter or a carriage. Mrs. Day married Sumner D. Day of Ellisburg at 12:00 on Dec. 25, 1923, at her home in Ellisburg. She taught at the Landings until 1924 at which time she left Ellisburg to join her husband in Wheeling, WV. Preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and her brother, Isaac Wright in 1943. Survivors are her son, Sumner W. Day (wife Elizabeth, of North Canton; grandchildren, Sumner D. Day (wife Laura) of Danville, CA, Paula E. Estill (husband John) of Livermore, CA, Christine M. Caporlett (husband John) of Akron, OH, David W. Day (wife Marcy) of Gahanna, OH; great-granddaughters, Sarah D. Day and Rachel E. Day, daughters of David and Marcy and niece, Jane Parker of Long Island, NY. Private funeral services will be held in the Wackerly Funeral Home. Graveside services and burial will be held in Ellisburg Cemetery, Ellisburg, NY.

Timothy Alvin Ledrich Sr., age 59, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, September 2, 2002, at Aultman Hospital in Canton. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, with Rev. David L. Everett officiating. Yale Alper
Yale Alper, age 94, passed on Sunday, September 1, 2002. He was born in Canton to the late Abraham and Bessie Alper. Yale had been a scrap metal dealer and was a Stark County Checkers Champion who won 3rd in the state. A graveside service will be held today Wednesday 1:30 p.m. in Alliance Hebrew Cemetery with Rabbi John Spitzer officiating.
Fannie Fisher
Fannie Fisher, age 102, formerly of Canton and more recently of San Diego, CA passed away Sunday morning, September 1, 2002 following a brief illness. Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Fisher, daughter Ella Mae Libster, granddaughter Marcy Libster and several sisters and brothers. She is survived by a daughter Rosalie (Jack) Star of San Diego; son-in-law Neal (Lori) Libster of Canton; granddaughters Jacquie Solomon and Sharon Brennan of San Diego, Karen Rosenbaum of North Carolina, grandsons Mitchell (Cindy) Libster of Marion, OH and Larry (Rebecca) Libster of Canton; great-grandchildren David Solomon of Phoenix, AZ, John and Joe Brennan of San Diego, Julie and Kevin Libster and Jason and Gregg Potts of Marion, Joseph and Ella Libster of Canton. Also Steve Barnett and family of Pomeroy, OH, Brenda Barnett of Alpharetta GA., Richard (Terri) Barnett and family of Columbus, Catharine (James) Holloway and family of Lyndhurst and other relatives and friends. Florence Jenior
Mrs. Florence Jenior, 98, was born December, 6, 1903, passed away September 2, 2002. Mrs. Jenior attended public school and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She also graduated from Hammel Business College. She worked at Goodyear during World War II, was a beautician and later worked at Patterson Park with the Meals for Seniors. She belonged to the Ladies Knights of St. John‚ Aos Auxiliary. Mrs. Jenior was preceded in death by her parents, Mathias and Elizabeth Wiesemann; husband, William Jenior; and her stepson, Robert, who was killed in World War II over France. Mrs. Jenior is survived by five children, Thomas (Ruth) Jenior, Geraldine (Jack) McTaggart, Therese (Ned) Shadle, Catherine (Jim) Harig and Bernadette (Bob) Koehler; 25 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, 10 a.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Friday.
