Helen P. Novak
Helen P. Novak, age 89, of Canton, died Monday in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. Born in Donora, PA, she had been a Canton resident since 1936. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton and the AARP Chapter 2267. Preceded in death by her husband, Jacob R. Novak, who died in 1973; a son, Thomas J. Novak; a brother, Michael Ducshak; a sister, Marie Dudeck. Survived by a niece and her husband, Karen and Richard L. Marks of North Canton; a great-nephew, Richard P. Marks of Canton; a great-niece and her husband, Kristen and Forest Bookman of Chagrin Falls, OH; a great-great-niece, Hanna Bookman of Chagrin Falls; a sister-in-law, Eva Ducshak of North Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton with Fr. Nicholas Mancini as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday 6-9 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church.
Shirley R. Givens
Shirley Rae (Summers) Givens, age 73, of Alliance, died at Canterbury Villa at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. Her husband, Ralph S. Givens, preceded her in death on July 6, 1994. She is survived by two daughters, Constance Lee Murphy and Rhonda (Lenny) Altimore and two sons, Robb Givens and Rodney Givens. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cassaday-Turkle-Christian Funeral Home. Friends may call two hours prior to the service. Phillip Novellino
Phillip Michael Novellino, 59, of Alliance, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Wade Park Veterans Hospital in Cleveland, OH, after an extended illness which he fought courageously. Phil served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was formerly employed at B W and was also a long distance truck driver for many years for the H H Trucking Co. Phil was born on March 11, 1943, to the late Mary Paul Novellino. He will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 35 years, Barbara Jeanne Novellino and his dear children, daughter, Tammy (Troy) Trainer; and son, Phillip Jr. (Shelly) Novellino. He also leaves his grandchildren, the loves of his life, Trent, Zachary, Miranda, Mariah, Xander and Phillip III. In addition he will always be lovingly remembered by his sisters and brother: Mary Jane (Leonard) Falcone of Akron, Patricia (Butch) Dobransky of North Canton, and Paul (Debbie) Novellino of Riverside, CA; a half-sister, Gina Rivas of Mesa, AZ. Phil is also survived by his loving in-laws: father-in-law, Charles Craven, sister-in-laws, Renee (Matt) Shahaden and Betty Craven, brother-in-law, Michael (Lana) Craven. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He will always be remembered for his helpfulness, strength and great sense of humor. Funeral services will be held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home, 1000 S. Union Ave., Alliance, on Thursday Sept. 5th at 11:00 a.m. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday Sept. 4th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 925 S. Main St., North Canton, OH 44720. He fought the fight, his pain is gone and May he rest in peace.
Howard A. Bailey
Howard A. (Buzz) Bailey, age 71, of Canton, passed away Sept. 1, 2002, in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Mineral City on Dec. 24, 1930 and was a Canton area resident all of his life. Member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, graduate of Canton South High School Class of 1948, member of Canton South AARP Chapter 4885, active member of SOAR. An Army veteran serving in the Korean War, stationed in White Sands, NM. Retired from the Timken Co. in 1990 with 40 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Florence (Baad) Bailey. Survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ellen (Hockensmith); a loving daughter and spouse, Diane and Glenn Stewart of East Sparta; a son, Kenneth Bailey, who lives in a Voca Group Home in Canton; four grandchildren that he loved very much, Kenneth Hanley of Bolivar, Kevin Hanley of Brighton, MI, Katie and Kallie Stewart of East Sparta; one sister, Lois Slatzer of North Industry; two brothers and spouses, Merle and Jody Bailey of Louisville and Larry and Joan Bailey of Las Vegas, NV; many loving nieces and nephews. He was loved by all who knew him. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Norman Dew officiating. Friends may call Tuesday (today) 6-9 p.m. Burial in Melscheimer Cemetery. Elizabeth Rusinsky
Elizabeth G. Rusinsky, age 80, of Canton, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, in the residence. Born in Troll, OH, she was a former secretary for Lattavo Brothers Trucking, Dr. John Thomas and Dr. Levin. A member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir. A former member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Canton, where she was a Past President of the Altar Rosary Society. An active member and volunteer at the Mayfield Senior Center, where she served as Treasurer. She enjoyed traveling, needlework and gardening. Preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Elizabeth Spisak and a sister, Ellen Lattavo. Survived by her husband, Joseph J. Rusinsky, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 15, 2002; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and David Jones of Cleveland, Joan Marie and John Schweickert of Sterling Hts., MI; a son, Larry J. Rusinsky of Ann Arbor, MI; two granddaughters, Laurie and Christine Schweickert; a brother-in-law, Michael Ruzinsky of Canton; two sisters-in-law, Ann Jobak and Margaret Pezel, both of Canton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Celebrant will be Rev. John Nentwick. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday 3-9 p.m. at the Welch-Sekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Rosary services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Georgie Kasunick
Georgie A. Kasunick, age 81, passed away at the Legends Nursing Center Sunday morning. Georgie was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Massillon to the late George and Hazel (Petitt) Holzer and lived most of her life in Massillon. She was a homemaker and worked with the Board of Election at the polls. Georgie was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kasunick in 1999; sisters, Dorothy Nangle, Helen Chapman, Rebecca Mitchael and Margaret Grimm; a great-grandson, Jonathan Kasunick; a daughter-in-law, Linda Kasunick in July 2002. She is survived by daughter, Judith Ann Bishop of Massillon; sons and daughters-in-law, John Kasunick of Canton, Joseph and Paula Kasunick of Greenville, SC, David and Mary Kasunick of Greenville, SC; brother, Robert Sonny Holzer of Massillon; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Barbara's Catholic Church. Her pastor, Fr. Thomas Cebula, will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.

Lila Bolden
Lila Bolden, passed away August 29, 2002 at McKinley Life Center. She was born in Coldwater, TN and had lived in the Canton community the majority of her life. She was a member of St. Paul AME Church, and she graduated from McKinley High School. She was a Teachers Aide at Hartford Middle School and at Margaret Shipley Center. She is preceded in death by husband, Mose Bolden Jr.; parents, Ernest and Loris Parks; son, Conrad Bolden; brothers, Ernest Parks Jr., and Robert Parks. Mrs. Bolden leaves many memories to sons, Cornell Bolden,. Michael Bolden; daughters, Wannetta Bolden, Darise Bolden, Karen Bolden, Lila (Duane) Bolden-Walker; brother, Samuel (Doris) Parks; grandchildren, Clarence, Eric, Miracle, and Jacquella ; and great grandchild, Terrel Brown II; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 5, 2002 at 12 Noon at St. Paul AME Church where Pastor Robert Dye will be officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service. Earl M. Greenleaf
Earl M. Matt Greenleaf, age 90, of Hartville since 1996, formerly of North Industry. passed away September 1, 2002. He was born August 21, 1912 in Richfield, OH to the late Edward and Melinda (Jarvis) Greenleaf. Earl was an Expeditor for Hercules Motor retiring in 1975 after 35 years, he was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Earl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn (Brannon) Greenleaf; two daughters, Brenda J. (Larry) Bagnoli, of Tallmadge, and Annjanette S. (John) Garber of Centerville, OH; one sister, Ruth (William) Biro of Stow, OH; one brother, Wayne (Ron) Greenleaf of North Canton, OH; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday September 3, 2002 in the Hennessy-Bagnoli Funeral Home, 339 Southwest Ave, Tallmadge, OH., with Rev. C. Edward Carter officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills.
